    Hi Ben, I just bought a Roland RD2000 used off of reverb and had a question as I'm new to roland products. The 1/4 outputs are EXTREMELY low going into my interface even at MAX volume. I factory reset it as well, but this is the lowest output I've ever seen from any instrument. Am I crazy or does the RD have low 1/4 output jacks and I need to use the XLR outs?

    • @TimothyVazquez-r4i
      @TimothyVazquez-r4i Месяц назад

      for comparison I previously had a Korg Nautilus, and at max volume it was just below peaking through my interface

      Congrats on your new keyboard! I haven’t had an RD-2000 for many years now, but it’s still a great board. What interface are you using?

      @@benallen5967 Thank you! And thanks for getting back to me! I'm using a Focusrite Scarlet 4i4. I'm plugged in to the back inputs (which have no software or physical volume knobs). I've used this with my (former) Korg Nautilus and my Korg Kronos with no issue. I plugged into the front twon jacks just now and even it max volume from my RD, I had to turn the gain knobs up to about the 10 o'clock position for it ti be managable. I noticed that some of the synths/other sounds are significantly louder than the pianos/Eps. Did you notice any of this when you owned the RD?

    • @TimothyVazquez-r4i
      @TimothyVazquez-r4i Месяц назад

      I just tried plugging in via the XLR outs and the difference was DRASTIC. So much more output. Is this normal behavior between the 1/4" outputs and the XLRs and should it be this big a difference?

    • @benallen5967
      @benallen5967 Месяц назад

      @@TimothyVazquez-r4iYou beat me to it. Yes the XLR output is louder. You can also check out page 9 in the Parameter Guide (not the owners manual) and see that you can boost the Input Gain for the EQ - per tone.. up to 15dB, which will raise the overall volume even if you don’t make any adjustments to the 5 band EQ itself. Also, keep in mind that you can have 8+ layers active at once, and so you need to be able to adjust those individually. To that end, you can adjust each ZONE, from its individual fader. And as for the question about differing volume levels… Roland is pretty bad about that across all their gear. Sorry to say.

    Hi, I will soon listen to the full demo so thank you for this. I was wondering whether you played the synth lead section of this! It’s the one gripe I think I have against this atm, I really love this keyboard, but it gotta have a good synth lead on there to really get me all I need. I’m gonna be playing with a talk box too so I always wondered about them.

    I think we'll get to hear the effect better if you hold the notes thru ramp up as well as ramp down and then up again without letting go of the long notes. You kept cutting off your notes every time you ramp down. Hold some more long notes thru ramp up & down & up again. That's what a Leslie is meant to do. Thnx.

    im planing to buy NS4 and will go for 73 key version due to smaller size. I would like a compact version due to weight being noticeably less. But what about the feel? isnt it too soft for a piano player? Also keys seems to be smaller in size. im used to Yamaha weighted keys, but no shops nearby has Nord compact to feel its keys.

    • @benallen5967
      @benallen5967 Месяц назад

      @@InBoostWeTrust7MGTE good questions. So, the compact, like all models of the stage 4, has triple sensor contacts in the action, so it is far more responsive than the previous stage models, and that helps with the waterfall semi-weighted action when it comes to pianos. If you’ve ever played a Hammond organ with waterfall keys, that’s the size of these keys, and though a B3/C3/A100/M3 Hammond of course will feel different, the basic mechanics of the action are the same. If you’ve ever played a modern Hammond keyboard, it’s the same action. It does take some getting used to the spring loaded feel of the compact, but if you are worried about size, the stage 4 also comes in the 73 key HA variety. Personally, for weight and ease of use, I prefer the compact with a nice weighted controller or other 88 key keyboard below for piano parts - though I do also play it just by itself.

    Hello, iam from Portugal. I have a modx8+, and i notice a hissing or white noite when i use some fm sounds, for example fm dx pianos, speccialy if I aplly compressor. The noise comes only when i hit the keys, and I ear it more in low velocity dinamics playing. A guy told me thats normal thar noise its the fm-x engine, its the synthesis wave form. MODX8+ is my first yamaha keyboard. I dont like that dirty noise , because i use a lot of eps, i love the fm eps, but hate that white noise coming during the time that the note until it decays. The YC88 does that same noise on eps in fm engine? Iam thinking sell the modx8+ and buy a yc, but iam afraid that noise could be a normal noise on all fm engines. Can you give me your opinion? I have a video on my channel showing that noise, please see. Thanks. And congratulations for you channel.

      So, it is essentially a ZenCore controller, which can also play and install other ZenCore models... technically speaking, it can't do anything you couldn't do with your computer and Roland Cloud.. but it is the "Juno 106/60" vibe that makes it work.. it is just fun to play honestly.

      @@benallen5967 Yeah, it seems that it still can add some "magic dust" to the engine, to get a great sound. Nowadays I listen to a lot of synthwave stations, it would fit perfectly into such set. But now i have enough racks already, lol. Thanks for the impressive demo!

    @7:41 you mentioned the compressed sound. I saw the same issue on Anderton's Music Co. Nord vs Yamaha battle. Yamaha's aren'ts usually compressed and I can't find any official information from Yamaha on this. Have you figured out if it's a setting or issue with the 1.2 update? Deal breaker to me but considering buying.

      @@timvazquez2851 I wouldn’t let that stop me from buying the YC-88. Even just as a controller it’s absolutely worth it. The more I play Yamaha boards in general, the more I encounter the exact thing we are discussing. Yamaha does indeed compress the samples pretty heavily, whereas Nord seems to give you a velocity switched raw version of the samples. Yamaha is awesome for the money, but Nord (a Yamaha endorsed artist friend of mine recently admitted) has the most realistic and best FEELING piano response. Mind you I’m not talking about the action. The YC-88 has one of the best stage piano actions ever, and I even prefer it to the Roland PHA-50.

  • @timvazquez2851

    Were you able to figure out that "compression" on the piano sounds you mentioned in another video? Watched a piano comparison between the Stage 3 and YC by Anderton's Music Co. and figured that had to be some error inside the settings of the board? Considering buying but that's kind of a deal breaker for me. Thanks!

    Some of these sounds take my breath away, in a good way. Great playing btw. I really like your U1/H1/pad. I’m going to use the same control layout, organ on expression pedal, pad on wheel control and try to get as close as I can on my MODX7. BTW, just tried the YC73 for the first time a few days ago and it’s just great. I can’t afford it right now but I wish I could.

      You are likely picking up on the weakness of the first Montage and Motif patches - the new ones, that sound best to ME, are the Montage M additions.. but frankly, this is not a SYNTH based synth. Yes the new synth engine is good - but it won't be great if you are going for Junoesque sounds.

    • @shehzadamurthy1983
      @shehzadamurthy1983 2 месяца назад

      @@benallen5967 yes I think you are right. The Motif XF patches and some original montage patches do sound thin and lifeless. And yes I agree the new ANX engine is a very sweet sounding synth by itself. But yeah, I guess my point was, if someone were to spend this much money on a stand-alone synth, then they'd be a little disheartened. But thanks for doing these demos, it must have taken a lot of time. Cheers!

    I see here a lot of folk are commenting on the the price of $5000 I assume that is American dollars Here in New Zealand that price tag is $9000 at the local music store When I first saw this I just about fell off my piano stool However if you put it in a context in about 1988 I brought a Roland D-50 for $3000 In today’s money that would be about $9500 I can remember saving up all my pennies for that one, believe me I can’t imagine taking a $9000 synth out to some gig.
