I was legit about to switch to Android over being so pissed that I can’t code for my own property without buying further into Apple’s ecosystem. Would you recommend hackintosh? I have an extra SSD laying around I could install MacOS on. Any version in specific you’d recommend? And would it run alright on an i5 4690k and a 3060 Ti? This whole hackintosh thing is new to me so I appreciate any advice.

I personally wouldn't buy anything less than 16GB. My 2020 M1 has 16 and when it comes time to upgrade, I'll probably go 32.

So here's some info from a programmer/computer engineer 1. Unified cpu and gpu has been around for years when amd did it long ago this is fine but means that your gpu and cpu will share memory usually up to around 2 gigs so thats ram that will be given to the gpu so the cpu actually may have as little as 6 gigs given to it. 2. Sticking the ram closer will make it faster but it doesn't mean anything for capacity if your out of ram the cpu will look for the data it needs where ever it is. 3. Spill over to storage from a filled ram has been around for a very long time its how programs deal with it instead of locking the system. 4. Spill over to an ssd will cause read writes and that will degrade your ssd faster. So not ideal. 5. There are ways the os can mitigate this as well but Linux and windows also have had this for years so again nothing new or ground breaking. There isn't anything new here this exact issue has been around for like 6 years now 8 gigs of ram with an apu(unified apu and gpu) causing issues and slowdowns. This isn't even new for Apple way back in the days of IBM Apple did this as well where they sold a computer that would slow down to unusable because they shipped it with get this not enough ram.

I think hackintoshes will die in 2026. Apple will officially drop support for intel macs by 2026 or early 2027 since they already dropped support for 2017 macs so next turn would be the 2018 mac and so on. Obviously you can use hackintoshes forever but the only downside is if you use it for work like me you will have a lot of trouble keeping up for example im on monterey right now and apple just released logic pro x which requires minimum ventura for it to work slowly slowly this gap will increase and once apple drops support for all intel based devices you will forever be stuck with your os version with all the old softwares plugins and without any updates and eventually for softwares which work through internet connectivity will not work since they would constantly ask you to update to the latest version and you wont be able to do so due to dropped support. I started hackintosh in 2016 when i started music production and the urge to use apple was so bad and i was a college student that time so did hackintosh but im really happy in all these years while learning i fell in love with apple's music production softwares and technology and finally im plannign to buy a mac studio next year once the m3 ultra variant comes out. Id say keep on using it if its a hobby but if you are making money from it, invest in it and buy a real mac it will last you really long trust me.

As long as you’re willing to stick around on an older version of macOS it’s perfectly fine. The price to performance ratio for pc parts is still better. Also if you need PCIE devices you basically don’t have much choice between 2019 Mac Pro or a hackintosh.

Is it better to upgrade ram than ssd for longevity of your device? I could get M1 Pro 16 and thinking if I should upgrade ram to 32gb or upgrade ssd to 1tb. Any suggestion regarding for the lifespan of a machine to last as long as possible

I bought an M1 Mac Mini $800 is all I could afford I was able to get the 16 256 which isn't nowhere near enough to do much of anything. I'm switching back to a PC because I like the ability to be able to keep my computer for a long time and all I have to do is upgrade the RAM and the storage.

That's your opinion, it's not a fact. I can say the 14-inch is superb. Not everyone edits videos or codes.
