    Hi Rich, did you consider building a slope/shallow end as you have kids? Any reason you opted not to - extra steps etc?

    • @RichDoesDIY
      @RichDoesDIY 3 дня назад

      Hi, good point, I did think about it. However due the relatively small size of the pool, the slope would be quite steep as I'd like at least 1.35m in the deep end. The flat bottom is also a lot better for pool games in my experience, the last pool I built was a constant depth. I also figured that the kids will be able to touch the bottom in a few years and then majority of the time they are still using the pool, they'll prefer the depth. There will be a safety cover on the pool when the pool is not in use, in conjunction with a 1.2m high perimeter fence built to European regulations. They are both also learning to swim! And I guess Im not sure I'd be capable of making a sloping base! There are in pool steps and a ledge which will benefit the kids, jumping off the ledge and the steps will assist them getting out 👍

      Hi. I considered fiberglass, but I've discounted that for a few reasons: I don't have the experience or skill to be able to fiberglass the pool confidently. I've not seen anyone use fiberglass on an ICF pool, therefore I'm unsure it would work. Fiberglass needs to be painted every few years based on my understanding. Basecrete is a very durable surface that has a fiber mesh. I'll be using two coats of that. It's a tried and tested method on top of insulated concrete forms 👍

    Hi Rich, great video! Just wondered if you factored your costs in too for planning permission and building regulations surveyor signoffs? A guideline of these costs could really help people to decide whether to begin the process or not based on additional unforeseen costs and difficulties obtaining regs. Obviously each county will vary depending on their private corporation council 🤫

    • @RichDoesDIY
      @RichDoesDIY 2 месяца назад

      @@alexandraathay prior to starting the process I checked with my local authority for my local planning requirements/restrictions. Each county will be different. However if you do need planning permission, I believe the costs will be in the low hundreds of pounds so an application. If you need your application to be drawn up by a surveyor/architect then the consultants day rate would inform the overall cost... More like one or two thousand. However as each person's design/circumstances are different, these costs would be very much down to the individuals scenario. 👍 These costs will form a small part of the overall budget.

    Great Video's Rich and very helpful understanding the process, considering undertaking the task, had a above ground pool for many years and has become an integral part of our family summers, have now retired so at least will have bit more time than your good self, an update of costs would be good!

      @@peternicholls1503 Hi, thanks for the comments. About to put another update together. Concrete is now poured in the walls (finally !!) Very roughly about £8-9k in. I've got accurate costs but not tallied it all up yet. Remaining big cost is £2.5k for Basecrete. Possibly totalling around £11.5 (excl landscaping, pool house.

    Interested to know how yoy arrange the jets to aid self cleaning. I've only ever seen it done with all jets pushing water towards the skimmer. However you mention adding lower jets to clean the buttom?

    • @RichDoesDIY
      @RichDoesDIY 3 месяца назад

      So in a later video I've slightly modified the return jet placement....the theory is that I'm creating a rolling motion in the water. I'll also be able to control each return jet. We shall see! This approach has been recommended. So we'll see !

      @@RichDoesDIY Awesome! I see the changes you made - I'm fully caught up now, and hoping you're pouring the concrete for part 12! 👌 I'm very close to close this a go. My main issue is that I don't have any practical volunteers to help with things, and, it seems that you need a couple of people here and there. Seems I need to make some new friends! 😂

    really enjoying your series rich, where did you get all the specs for pool pump, filters and number of drains and locations?

    • @RichDoesDIY
      @RichDoesDIY 3 месяца назад

      @@steve347ec Hi Steve, so the pool pump and sand filter specs are normally driven by the pool volume and requirements to turn the entire pool over in 6 hours. However as my heater needs more flow, I have sized the pump according to the heater. Heater was from AES. Re: drains and locations. I have had numerous conversations with pool builders on forums. There are far too many inlets for this sized pool. 2 inlets (pressure returns) would be fine but I wanted to ensure optimum circulation so went for 4 returns. I opted to omit main drains and instead went for two low level suction points in the wall. Check out Ep.6. On plumbing 👍

    Any cracking problems with the freezing and thawing through the seasons? What material is your render coat?

    • @RichDoesDIY

      So I I'm not at that house any more. I've moved house and I'm building another pool ( new videos on my channel). No cracking. The render was sand and cement. Second coat had an SBR from Antel. Then Epoxy paint. Hope that helps !

    Impressive how meticulously the process of reinforcing the walls before pouring concrete is planned! Great continuation of the project! It's fascinating to watch the process. I was wondering, what is the density of the ICF blocks, and will they deform (even by a few millimeters) under the pressure of the water in the pool?

    • @RichDoesDIY
      @RichDoesDIY 3 месяца назад

      Thanks, yes the shell needs a lot of reinforcement. So I'll be putting a fiber reinforced render on the EPS. But because the pressure is evenly spread. I do not believe any deformation whatsoever will occur. I'll let you know in a few months!
