Further Engine Reassembly...What Does It Cost To Rebuild A Flathead Engine?
Hi Keith, super helpful video, thanks! What's the dimensions of the bolt? Thanks...
I am inheriting a 1938 Chrysler Royal touring sedan is there any advise u can give me please respond I need as much assistance as possible
@@ryanmulligan2851 I have produced and uploaded a lot of videos on Yt which gives you a ton of advice. You should watch as many as you can to gather advice.
Just what i needed thanks
I’m newish to cars and in the process of rebuilding my grandpas old 49 coronet. I haven’t got to the pulling the motor part but I’m currently trying to rebuild the carb since my grandpa said that was the problem before he put it away. Do you know what the specs are for these old carbs I can’t seem to find anything about a 1949
yes but what am I wrenching?
I need to do this to my 1941 Buick tomorrow
2017 polaris 1000xp sportsman says im in natural when im really in low, and 4×4 does not activate in low but it does in high.
Great sound, but the turntable is playing really slow. Idler wheel could be dried out or the motor might need an oiling.
Sorry to pester you today. One last question, did you run the + coil (12v) wire thru the key / ignition for starting?
@@robertlorenz5579 “+” to ground. Which is to the points wire. Negative to key switch. As my car is positive ground. And mine is 6V.
Ive got a wire coming out of the forward bottom of the steering box, whats that for?
@@robertlorenz5579 that goes up inside the steering column to the horn button on the steering wheel.
@@keithsgarage5831 TY very much. Whoda thunk it
About 2 months ago I bought a 2 owner 47 Dodge pickup with a flathead 6. I don't know CI yet. However as I sit by it and watch one of your videos I can pause and check whatever the next step is. Over the last umpteen years I've had a 47 Harry Ferguson tractor, a 49 Plymouth, 64 mustang, race car etc.... If I don't do it often my 60 Y/O brain loses it. From Clark Missouri USA My most sincere TY for your videos.
That beautiful console deserves a proper space.
It has a nice home and gets used regularly.
AWESOME!!!
Hello friend! I wanted to know about the fuel pump, what model and displacement it belongs to. Greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷
So what did you do with the second adjustment ? Running into the same thing with my 50 coronet
Set the major adjustment forward or back to get the timing with the range needed. Lock it down. Then use the standard “daily” adjustment to fine-tune the timing as needed. I really like using my Snap-On dwell meter to help dial things-in quickly and accurately.
Thank you so much for your education.
My dad had a 1953 Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe and that also had the weak hand brake and dad always had to look where his car came to a stop on its own ...It never hit another car
Does the wire from the coil go to the plug humm
My 48 Dodge oil pan was lost by shop airhead, advice guard all your parts oil pans are no longer available? Unless your at your own shop area!
It would b great if u cool could mention no tube no oil?
Wow... I saved this episode, as I bought a 1953 Dodge Regent four door, with the 230-6 in it, that may need rebuilding... Its the 25 1/2 " length block... Did the dry compression test and averaged only 86 lbs overall... Supposed to be 120-150 ... Next test is 'wet' test, with some oil, to determine if the motor has bad rings or valves in need of adjustment... Best regards, from the mountains of central California ...
@@larryg.9187 I’m not sure you’ll ever see +120 psi on a stock engine. May be at sea level? 115 psi is the best I’ve ever seen on my fresh engine rebuild, after break-in. Check for valve leakage. You may be losing some PSI there.
@@keithsgarage5831 ... Your right... I am hoping, the valves are out of adjustment... The book says .010 on a warmed up motor... Any tips on adjusting them cold ? As I just can't picture myself reaching under the header (?) to get to hot valves ... Especially, when I've not done that in fifty years... Going on 72 this year, and got to work safe... BTW, I'm at about 2700 ft from sea level... Thanks
@larryg.9187 watch my video on valve sets. Do them cold. Add .002” to hot spec. My video is pretty comprehensive. ruclips.net/video/qtLQP3giVuQ/видео.htmlsi=Gln3b5fxYDUWQYWn
Thanks again for the interesting hands and good audio tutorials! I'm in Los Angeles and the elected officials are being persuaded by other means than the falsehood of the getting to a melting point according to NASA analysts! We love our historical motoring hobby! Power up!
Mainly, the record player needs to be repaired, because it sounds too slow. Nice stereo console, though.
@@edwincancelii2917 after about 1 minutes the motor warms up. It plays at proper speed.
@@keithsgarage5831 Oh. No problem, buddy. I still like that old school stereo console.
@@edwincancelii2917 it sounds fantastic.
Why is that wrenches and nuts always fall right by your elbow? How many times have I wished I had fingers on my elbows?
how do you get it unfroze if you can’t shift mines won't move ?
Does the mechanical pump pull fuel throught the elctric fuel pump with any problem? I bought a pump that looks the same as yours but seems hard to suck air through, you can but take a tiny bit of effort.
Great video, thank you for sharing!
Thanks! This was very helpful as I am adjusting the valves hot for the first time on my ‘48 Chrysler six.
Hi What is the best highway speed for thr engine and transmission?
There isn’t a right answer here. The car will cruise at 70 mph. I felt really comfortable at 55-60 mph. It felt stable and engine was not buzzing like crazy.
@@keithsgarage5831very well narrated and informative vid! Any idea if this fluid torque drive with the hi-lo range has a lower final gear ratio than a 1948 dodge fluid drive version that’s simply a manual 3 speed with an attached torque converter? I’ve given up searching for an affordable Chrysler overdrive so now looking for the next best thing lol …. Thanx in advance!
Those were a cast iron transmission case Aluminum came in later.
My Parents had a '49 Winsor with this transmission and flat head six. I was a child, and my mom would drive this car all over the place.
This is a great video. Just the info I needed!
I’m going to do this to my Mercedes. Thanks, and I love the lessons at the end.
My favorite channel, except for the Italian mama mia making homemade foods!
Good reproof Mr. K !! Thanks again for all your autopsies especially the 37 or was it a 38 Chrysler. I have a 1937 and a 1948 both Dodge Coupe models. The Dodge Brothers were in charge of their creation from 1914-1938
My 1948 Dodge has the Fluid Drive which works quite well and as intended! As a longtime viewer of this work of love and labor to include the cold, verry cold b thankful we have a down to earth tutorials
Have you driven your 48 Dodge at highway speeds and if so did the engine require higher rpm’s to maintain speed?
@@romeoromio didn't work harder than normal I need to document if it does
@@richardd9955thank you for the input
I love how the man just casually hands him a highly toxic controlled substance wrapped around a thing designed to literally be on fire. man, they just did not give a darn back in the day.
Pretty Windsor.. Do you have collector car insurance? I use American Classics for Mama's 1991 Park Avenue - $200 for FULL coverage and NO deductible with DECLARED VALUE. Christine Dapper is my epic agent. I'm negotiating on a 1949 Packard Super 8 and the premium on that car would be $180.
I've got a gray 38 4 door about 20 feet from me that my boss owns and wants to sell. It's like a limo inside. You stretch your feet out and can't touch the front seat.
Love the clock and guages
Good Video Keith! Thanks for sharing. I had a buddy over yesterday with a Canadian 1940 Plymouth 4dr. Sedan. Brakes look the same. ?? You didn't talk about the adjusting cam nuts. does the '38 not have those adjusters? They are on the reverse side of my buddies '40.
Hi, Keith ,I have a 1937 chrysler royal and the starter linkage does not activate the step switch to engage starter pinion. Thanks, larry
1:40 we all saw you shape shift. You cant hide from us
Will 2 gauge cables work on 12 volt ?
Thanks for the great idea. Wired this into a 1950 Buick along with a couple of freestanding speakers in the back window that I already had lying around from another project and it works like a charm. The speakers I used in the back window take a bit away from the vintage look, but it's a decent trade-off as the car's naturally beautiful dash looks unspoiled and the sound is surprisingly good.
👍🏻🇦🇺✌️
I have a 40 Plymouth truck. When I pull the vacuum switch it goes one way, and when I push it back in, it goes back the other way. Is that possibly correct for it, or is it not working correctly?
Hi Keith Would you know what company made the axel for chrysler in the 50's? Was it Detroit axel or a Rockwell?
Love your videos-Keith! Waiting for the 38 Plymouth road trip.
My 51 F1 will start cold.. but after 15 mins of running..the starter will drag verly will turn over.. after 30 minutes of sitting will crank right up.. truck has a fh v8
