Hiking Anza Borrego | Carrizo Gorge | Groan Benchmark
We had the pleasure of joining our friend Chris on a hike in the Anza Borrego Desert State Park to a peak marked with a USGS benchmark known as Groan. It's part of a group of USGS benchmarks with amusing names like Moan, Gasp, Puff, and Grunt, reflecting the effort it takes to climb these desert peaks. Check out Chris’s excellent hiking blog, www.SDPeakbagger.com, filled with trip reports for hundreds of hikes around Southern California. You can find his trip report for this hike here: www.sdpeakbagger.com/2024/11/25/groan-benchmark-2/
Shortly after starting our hike, Chris showed us some well-preserved pictographs. We then made our way up the gorge, climbing over several dry falls and nav...

Also, I think we mentioned the app FarOut, essential data when on the trail regarding campsites and water sources. If you message me on Instagram, @rsarpolus, perhaps we can exchange email addresses.
