Join us for a hike to the Desert Queen Mine and the Eagle Cliff Mine and Cabin in Joshua Tree National Park. We felt like we were stepping back in time as we explored the remains of abandoned mine shafts and equipment, a rock house, and the remarkably well-preserved Eagle Cliff Miner’s Cabin. This 3.8-mile hike took us through sandy washes, past towering rock formations, spiky cactus, a few Jos...

The Sycamore Canyon County Preserve’s 2,272 acres contains over 10 miles of trails. With friends Mike and Scott, we explored 6.6 miles of the preserve starting from the Gooden Staging area at the end of Sycamore Canyon Road in Poway, CA one afternoon in early January. We followed the Martha’s Grove Trail to the junction with Cardiac Hill, then up to the Highway 67 Staging Area. After a short br...

Hiking Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park During an Eruption!

A wonderful day hiking in the Volcanoes National Park. We toured the Thurston Lava Tube and then hiked the Crater Rim Trail to the Kilauea Iki trail. The trail across the floor of the crater is a solidified lake of lava over 400 feet deep created when the Kilauea Iki crater erupted in 1959. We were fortunate to see the Kilauea Caldera erupting, which started the day before our visit. The lava f...

Really well done... I have been in that area once and have seen some of those views and they are so insanely beautiful that it didn't look real. It's like a live painting. You did a really good job showing it.
Yosemite. Those views just never get old. Thx for sharing the hike!🌻
@@TheHikingChick1 thanks!
So... you're doing all the setting the camera, get filmed walking by, then going back to get the camera, no 3rd person? If that's so, you two are amazingly dedicated to this!!
@@garyday5299 hi Gary - yes we do all that! We really enjoy filming and editing the videos!
Great videos! I've seen a hundred Yosemite and RMNP videos over the years. Yours are in the very top tier! Great videography, really great relaxing music, little wasted chit-chat like many others! Prefer the long videos, so get back out there, RMNP would be great.
Thanks for the kind words! RMNP/Colorado Trail are on our bucket list!
did the solar panels work as expected? if so what model did you guys used?
Hi Wayne! the solar cell is a 5w cell from Amazon: a.co/d/03GWVpQ. It worked well for Andrea the whole trip, topped off her battery each day. I scratched mine early in the trip and it stopped charging. A friend has one and it worked very well for him on the HST this summer. Lightweight and not expensive.
David certainly knew what he was talking about!
Thanks so much for taking us along with you. We've backpacked all of our lives and with our kids. Can only do day hikes now😕. Fun being with you guys! ❤
@@davidb1931 thanks David!
OMGGG! I WENT ON THAT SAME EXACT HIKE AND I LIVE THERE
That hike is beautiful done several day hikes and spent 2 nights at round valley campground the boulder scamble kicked my butt
Great video. Thank you
All ( almost) all my backpackers I follow AND.. I love camping at black rock.
I watched your video over the summer and I used it to guide my decision. I did a 7 day trip in July on this loop. It was amazing
Oh good. Happy our video helped. Glad you enjoyed your trip. We are hoping to do another Yosemite loop next summer.
Very nice video of an amazing trip. It was nice running into you both this last weekend. Thanks for your tips on PCT Section hiking! I'd like to hit up some of the closer (Southern Terminus) sections in the future. If you don't mind pointing me towards resources touching on those hikes, I'd appreciate it greatly. Take care and safe travels! Richard
Thanks! Andrea and I really enjoyed meeting you too Richard. We suggest the book "Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, Southern California, Section Hiking from Campo to Tuolumne Meadows" by Shawnte Salabert, Mountaineers Books - great info with plenty of detail on PCT sections. Also, I think we mentioned the app FarOut, essential data when on the trail regarding campsites and water sources. If you message me on Instagram, @rsarpolus, perhaps we can exchange email addresses. I can suggest several weekend sections with campsite and car shuttle options, too much to write here.
What an amazing video. I hope you and Andrea are healthy and doing well. I went on the Rae lakes Loop in my 20’s ( a long time ago ) went out of Roads End and went counter clockwise around the loop that way an awesome trip.
Thanks Larry! Andrea and I are well and hope you and Trish had some great hiking adventures this summer. Wow, going counterclockwise looks tough. Lots of elevation gain from Roads End to Glen Pass.
I dont follow F1 since 2012, but man, the Austin GP look a fantastic site for Race fan to have a nice weekend, lots of things to do. I miss to much V10 engines sounds, hope they find their way back in the future.
V10 engines are awesome, I miss them too, such a great sound.
Great videography of your trek. I noticed you're carrying a portable solar. May I ask the brand and your experience with it, such as how much charge you're getting out of it when you have bright sunny conditions? Thanks!
Hi @rkatrails - The solar panels are from Amazon: Solar Panel Charger USB Port... www.amazon.com/dp/B01MCXZJ8Y?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share. Worked well for Andrea, kept her battery charged up. Mine stopped working halfway through the trip. The panel got scratched and would not charge my battery so not sure how durable it is.

At Vogelsang you showed your tent. It looked like you staked it *and* put rocks. Is the tent difficult to keep set up? Why do both?
@@2ddw I don't remember exactly. Usually we do that if the ground is a little soft and the stakes are not holding.
Your welcome... nice very nice
Thanks!
Beautiful videography. What month of what year? (presuming 2024)
@@2ddw thank you! We did this hike the first week of July 2024. The night at Rae Lakes was actually the 4th of July.
Thank you for sharing the mapping and description of your hike.
Do you carry 5 days of food or restock along the way?
We carried 5 days. There really wasn't a good option to resupply along the way.
Very well done my friends! Truly enjoyed this and wished I had been out there with you guys. Man did you see a lot of beauty packed into just a few days. Again great job!
Thanks Mike! This hike was packed with amazing scenery.
Thank you - I watched this with my daughter and we are now planning a 2025 trip from the UK to do this and other parts of Yosemite Park.

I keep saying it Rick, but the editing is just on another level! Video is especially sharp and detailed. Fantastic video and the views are insane! Are those the Lixada 5w solar panels? How did they work out for you?
@@wolfeadventures Thanks Brad! Yes, those are the Lixada 5w cells. Same as Mike I think. Worked great the whole trip for Andrea, topped off her battery most days. I scratched mine on some branches early in the trip and it would not charge aftwards so not sure about durability. Mike used his on the HST, said it worked great.
You folks are awesome good video of your excursion good team work also helps... till the next time "happy trails"

How was the temperature during the day and night ?
Nights were very pleasant, not cold at all. Day time temps were quite warm in the canyon, cooler up in the basin.
Love the video, planning to do the High Sierra Loop next summer.
You will love that one!
Wow! What a great trip and perfect video that you made. Thanks for sharing and excellent job on the video. One of the best I've seen (and I've watched many) and gives me another trip to put on the bucket list

@RickandAndreaGetOutside if you could only pick 1, which Yosemite hike would you pick, this one or the high sierra camp loop?
Thanks for sharing your awesome adventure in the High Sierra’s.. I will be out there next summer hope to see you on the trail 😁
You two are having a great adventure outdoors. Thanks for taking us along with you. Wonderful musical selections.
Glad you liked the music! Thanks for watching!
Gorgeous love your "loop" much preferred to "out-n-back". BTW what solar panel are you using (watts/weight and how efficient was it?) I am looking for a good alternative to multiple battery banks for longer trips.

Thanks for sharing your amazing journey in the high Serra’s. I will be there next summer
Great trail. Loved the scenery and those gnarled old Juniper trees. I’m curious about what you two ate? I struggle to get more than five days food in a bear canister. Happy trails.
@@hope2someday691 thanks! We usually have the standard dehydrated meals for dinner, I like tortillas with chicken from the foil packs for lunch. Snacks are cliff bars, beef sticks etc. We have the Bearicade Weekender bear canisters and have been able to squeeze in 7 days of food a few times. For those trips we vacuum seal the contents of the dehydrated meals, takes up a lot less space.
Stunning scenery! Thank you for sharing 😊 A few years ago I got to backpack Glen Aulin to Waterwheel Falls. For the past 2 years I got permits to do the Grand Canyon of the Toulumne & have had to cancel due to work conflicts- Super Bummed! Hoping next year is the year, 3rd times a charm right?! Your video has me reconsidering a point to point & maybe doing it as a loop!
