Lots of suspense in this one, and lots of arpeggio's that sound like you planned every note. Nice mono that I wasn't aware of before!
Do sub: it's worth it!
The music and the model: spotless. 6:30 : Such fun use of the arpeggiator. 7:39: Where did you get those drums from? That snare is out there!
The drums @7:39 are samples from The LoopLoft, I believe the sample set was called Everything But Sticks. Not sure if this sample shop still exists. Their website now automatically reroutes to Native-Instruments.
A dazzling array of sonic marvel, carried by provocative chord progressions. Very, very album worthy.
Hi Jair, thanks! Also thanks for the suggestion. I’ll put in on bandcamp.
Wow! This is truly amazing!!! Wonderful demo Rimela!
I can see why you're going for a Trident yourself right now.
Thank you! You will love playing the Trident. It is such a feast!
Holy Cow! This is so great! Did you perform all the tracks by hand and then layer them up? I just picked up the audio/patch bundle for my Wavestation EX, btw. Thank you!
Thanks! Yes manually played, I also did some wave sequencing (that is what this synth is about) and recorded layer by layer in Ableton. Thank you for your support! If you have any questions about the patches or audio tracks let me know.
@@rimela Thanks for your reply. Your recording is so exceptionally great. I am going to load these patches up and have a fiddle! I will hit you up with any more questions. Thanks for demonstrating why the WS is a real desert island synth. All your demos/ performances are top notch, btw...
Jeetje, nu moet ik weer op zoek naar een JD990 dankzij jou ;-)
Ha John, ja sorry daarvoor 😁
Love what you did with the Syntrix II, I am especially fond of the distorted sounds. Beautiful pictures too!
@@dirklinden The Syntrx II is truly a one-of-a-kind machine. Although I initially found the patch matrix a bit daunting, it's fantastic to be able to save matrix setups. Switching between these setups instantly brings you to unique and surprising sounds. The rich overtones (which you easily create by routing feedback loops) are, in my opinion, the most beautiful sounds you can make with the Syntrx II. It was an absolute pleasure to try out this synth. Thank you so much for that!
Roland RS-09?
Hey Aaron, yes it’s the RS-09. It’s limited, cheesy sounding and perfect for adding a few chords and nostalgia. I have it permanently plugged in and use it in modular jams very often.
@@rimela very cool. had one for a short time and loved the chorus on it.
@@AaronFoltz The chorus is fantastic indeed. And it has external input 🤗
Fantastic! What were you using to sequence the SYNTRX?
Thanks! I used the Moon Modular M 569 Quad Sequential Voltage Source and the Free State FX FSFX110 Topographic Drum Sequencer. Also I used Ableton to sequence via MIDI.
i really do have that guilty pleasure feeling for this synths sounds .. so lush .. sophisticated an undeniable unique feeling of digital futuristic so much can be uniquely done with ... and this sounds wonderful by its self ... I enjoy the rich celestial crystaline texture .. so special thing .. great compositions.. makes me think of flight of the navigator, ufos, star trek tng feelng of future, mj, .. thanks for sharing ::::)
5:19 Such unexpected fun, that reverb pitching up. Really curious to what your experiences are with this - probably hard to master - marvel. You didn't use anything like a distortion?
@@jairkerker2821 Ha Jair, it’s a fun box. Indeed it can be a bit hard to master, but the unexpected is what this synth is about. I didn’t use external fx (only some reverb / delay from Ableton). You can get distortion type sounds quite easy on this one.
@rimela I've been on the fence regarding the AKS (& likewise creatures). Pricey for such exotic and probably sparse use, but still.. as interesting as its users :) And those harmonic overtones are wonderful!
@@jairkerker2821 Getting EMS (old or new) is very difficult. It is beautiful stuff, and it forces a different way of working, more experimental. That is great. However, I am more of a keyboard guy. The SNTRX is certainly a nice box, and I think a fine alternative for the EMS, but if you already have a modular setup it is not essential, it integrates very nicely though. I am not a fan of the matrix myself (I prefer plugging cables). The overtones are very easy to make with the SYNTRX, that is its strong point (for me at least).
Excellent work. Wish I had 10% of that skill set.
@@synthmaven Thanks! 🙏
Outstanding video here! I just found a Prophet 600 locally for $800 (AS IS)... Great shape cosmetically - it will need work to get it running. But, it included a fully working Maestro Phaser PS-1 (!!!) in great shape.
@@billrebsamen1810 Thanks. Sounds like a great deal (if you get the P600 working).
Fantastic. Thank you!
@@aldipower You’re welcome. Thanks!
I like those solid black patch cables
One of those sounds is like the Space Invaders song
Something magical in matrix6
I'm selling my JD-800 in excellent condition. If you live near Athens come and check it out. Athens, Greece that is. Local pickup only.
Love that late 80's/early 90's digital sound! Great compositions as always

@@synthebo 🙏
Sonically, probably not my favourite synth, but visually... oh my lord.
it was a little revolution in a time where almost all digital synths had one knob and several buttons only. Roland made a come back to the interface like their analog poly synths. But on sonic side, it is just a digital synth.
@@jean-louispech4921 Indeed. I felt disappointed when I used it for the very first time. There was acoustic sounds in it... 😬 Many years after that I started working at a studio that had 990 and that was a more sophisticated machine, with hard sync, fm, ring mod etc. I ended up buying a DJ-70 for 50 bucks which have the same filter chip.
the first one has the vibe of jazz jackrabbit background music 😁👌
I really don't like this synth. I had one, sold it rather quickly. Well done creating this music on such a cheesy instrument. 👍🏻
@@74goldenjet I know what you mean. It’s a capable synth, but you have to know what you want out of it. It’s not inspiring in itself but it delivers. This was my challenge, actually maybe this was the most challenging demo so far. The distortion effect though (with the nice overtones) is something I haven’t yet experienced this exciting in any other synth. Thanks for your comment.
@rimela it's a nice challenge, absolutely. I had a couple of jv-2080s back in the day. They were nice for Robert Miles type dance/trance stuff 😄 Now I think they sound like video games, mostly.
That's the sounds of the early 90's..😅 I have the boutique version..amazing near the D50..😏
@@rimela I forgot to ask: how do you trigger the overtones? On the guitar those are indeed like nothing else I've heard.
@ You have to use more tones at a time, so that frequencies start to intervene, you’ll discover this when you investigate my patches. You can play with this (tone color) using different intervals.
Not working with vsti
@@gilo7171 Thanks for mentioning this. I only tested loading the sysex file with the JD-800.
Great song AND sound with a great synth. 4 layers of synths with different layers of: envelopes, filters, levels, LFOs, and many other parameters, plus the 8 stage envelope rarity, and you have a synth even today that is fantastic and powerful. Back in the day I had bought a new Ensonique EPS16+ and Mackie 16cMIxer, just before the JD800 was introduced, the same money I would have spent on this synth. Today, through the magic of Roland I am experiencing the JD-800 in my Roland JD-08 for the first time. Plus I have added polyphony and panning to add to the power. Magic because it only costs $300 today.
Does it work with the JD08 too?
@@kagg8994 According to Roland the 08 and 800 are not compatible.
JM Jarre used that in his live rig during his concerts.. that says alot! My jd-990 rack will stay with me for good.
Also on the Chronologie album 🎉
JD990 is the best rack synth of the 90's..😅 But with expansion cards..😏
@Sandelec-gm2cl it's nice to have that vintage analog card and memory expansion card but analog sound can now be easily obtained through a plethora of cheap analog synths that Behringer is doing for exmple in my opinion
@@SonikbytesThere are a few tricks in the 990, like the ability to give each note a different panning. And it sounds massive and cinematic and with huge polyphony. But with the Vintage card in it it will drain your expenses (buying a card seperately is even worse).
I recently purchased a JD990 and the Vintage expansion. It’s currently my favorite sounding synth in my collection. My Poly Evolver and Hydrasynth are used just as much. Plug-in synths can sound equal or better than all my hardware but they don’t inspire me to create.
I love the look of this synth so much. But i fear to buy old stuff. Thank you for the amazing Music.
The 800 is of an above average quality build: if you get one where the red glue problem is solved, the only thing you need to mind is the left (bender) cover panel: it's inducive to cracking when handled improperly (like storing it in a not high enough rack like I did..).
Thanks for the Christmas gift 🥰
You’re welcome Lania
Well into several negotiations for selling the JD-800 from a collection of synths that most would prefer over this one, Rimela showed interest in exploring it. More interest than me anyway: other than the 800 being a giant controller for the JD-990 I'm not particularly moved by its characteristics, though even lettuce can become etable if you hide it in between enough avocado, feta, salmon and pepper. But Rimela does it all with just that, lettuce (and sparse Ableton revs), and after only 2 months of introduction it's now loaded with 64 patches. And I even like the guitar ones. 2 out of the 5 parts feature this crafty variable-delay-like sequence, and I was taken aback by the decent guitar harmonics in part 4. The 800 still sounds much more corporate than the D-50, and doesn't make me smile as much as the 50 does too. I still wouldn't recommend buying it.. but I decided to keep it. Being proven wrong in music is a joyous expense. Great stuff, Rimela, and it was my pleasure entirely. Can't wait to see what's next.
@@jairkerker2821 It was an absolute pleasure to try out the JD-800. When it first came out, I was still in high school. I really wanted this synth back then, but it was out of reach. I remember Electronic as one of the bands that used the JD-800 a lot (as a tribute, I included a tom fill in my demo, which I think they used in one of their tracks). Later, when I started building my collection of synthesizers, I became more interested in analog synthesis, and the JD-800 faded from my view. However, I always felt a certain attraction to it. Now, after being able to play and program it for a few months, a long-cherished wish has come true. Thank you so much for this opportunity.
Merry Christmas and happy new Year! Oh wow, you finally found time and mood to make it.. Really sums nicely the sound of JD/JV synths and exactly shows why they are both liked and hated. Crystalic, clear and perfectly pronounced, such an epitomy of late 90's and 2000's electronic music sound.
@@DestroyER82 Thank you M! Merry Christmas to you too and happy new year! Thanks for your lovely comment.
Take these broken wings... :)
@@AaronFoltz Hi Aaron, haha indeed, I couldn’t help myself 😄
From an FM fanatic. This is magic. I discovered many years ago. That FM is ace for drums and percussion.......
Thanks! Although I have mostly analog synths, I have been a fan of the DX7 for years. The format of my channel forced me to make drum sounds on the DX, which opened doors for me in FM programming. Exploring new sounds remains very rewarding on the DX, even 40+ years later.
Yes I have some DX7 demos on my channel made 100% with just the DX7. My DX7 died in 2017. And I went 7 years without one. Have the Reface DX. Which is great for some sounds. But I just got a DX7s in mint condition. And will start uploading demos again in 2025.
waw I'd love to make beats/remix on the last track :)
I’ll make stems available for you. Give me some time for this, as I’m working on a project at this moment. I’ll let you know when it is in the downloads.
can the patches work for my AX 73?
Hi Peter, unfortunately I think that will not work.
at 7''11 it starts like a smooth downtempo like Suicide's
what a journey
it's not great demo : it's great music
Thanks Peter
whether played with a synth or another: it's a good musical result
i like the 2nd to the last one
I much prefer the 6 over the Jupiter 8. The 6 has the Curtis oscillators and amp, though I think the filter is all Roland. The Jupiter 6 is capable of very, very different sounds when you dive into it, moreso than other Roland polyphonics. Thank you for this demo.
GREAT!!! 👍
