  • Multitrack recording of the Korg Poly-61 (no midi, no mods). All sounds are from the Poly-61 except drums. The Korg SQ-1 was used to trigger the arpeggiator. All processing in Ableton Live.
    Patches are available at payhip.com/b/f...
    Audio track is available at rimela.bandcam...

    That is by far the cleanest 61 I have ever seen! Still looks like new.

    The best Poly-61 demo on RUclips, hands down. So musical and well done, not just boring arpeggiator noodling. Good job!

    So talented.. sounds better than me with a modern PC and MODX. Goes to show how much we forget about talent. Sounds like something from the original blade runner. very emotional.

      Thanks, I'm very flattered. Still, it is fair to say that the sound of analog synthesizers, but especially the limitations, play an important role. Sound can be approached more and more digitally, but an important tool in both composition and playing an instrument is to set limits on yourself. Limitation boosts creativity. With some discipline, this will certainly work with a MODX, in which the possibilities are virtually unlimited. Use only a limited subset at a time.

    Nice listening! p61 got a bit of that raw jupiter 8 vibe going on here.

    • @rimela
      @rimela  2 года назад +1

      Thanks! Interesting you associate it with the Jupiter 8. Don't have the 8 but I do have a 6, which is quite different from the P61, probably to the 8 as well.

    • @oriomenoni7651
      @oriomenoni7651 2 года назад +1

      It doesn't sound like the Jupiter 8 at all in my opinion. J-8 sound is very precise and punchy. This one sounds more "liquid" and "chewy". In fact, it reminds me of the Memorymoog somehow. With a tiny bit of PPG Wave 2.2 over it

      I think it technically has more in common with the Roland JX-3p. Both are DCO synths with 2 Osc.

    • @Sonikbytes
      @Sonikbytes 2 года назад

      @@MacXpert74 Perhaps you right. JX-3p sounds more jp-8 (ish) than P61 does.
      From the demos I prefer the p61 tone than JX for that retro feel.
      JP-8 has VCO discrete components. JX-3p is pure dco's and digital clock. P61 is traditional DCO1 & DCO2 is digitally derived OSC with analog clock for both.

    man someone tell me why I have such a hard time triggering the arpeggiator from my MPC60

    • @rimela
      @rimela  7 месяцев назад

      Triggering the Poly-61 you mean? I think it’s because Korg uses a so-called ‘S-trigger’ and not the ‘V-trigger’ with which you can use a trigger signal from one of the audio outputs on your MPC. With a signal processor you could convert a any voltage level into an S trigger. I do this a lot to be able to sync Korg gear, using the signal processor in my modular setup. Without that, I would think that Kenton has the box you need for converting MIDI clock to S-trigger. Hope this helps.

    • @Ancaja123
      @Ancaja123 7 месяцев назад

      @@rimela Yea, same with my Akai AX-60. Both take S-Trig, but are you saying an MPC cannot send S-Trig signals? That would make sense, I’ll try and get some way to convert it. Amazing job on this video by the way, nothing else like it and it really shows the potential of the Poly-61.

    • @rimela
      @rimela  7 месяцев назад

      @@Ancaja123 Thanks!
      Yes, though I don’t have an MPC, I believe it doesn’t have S trigger out.
