This is more interesting than many pieces Grieg did consider worth publishing. P.S. I mean especially the first one. The second is more sketch-like, with very simple repetitive organization and less contents (an experiment with parallel fifths, primarily).

Excellent playing. I looked at the piece as a student but didn’t realize till now what a great piece. Technically challenging but this performance breezes through allowing me to enjoy the whole. Thank you. I like this bassoonist especially with his judicious and sparing use of vibrato, something very classy about it, gives the bassoon a more ethereal quality which works very well in this music.

I have never liked his PDQ Bach persona, I have a sense of humour but I just dont get those at all - this work though is great, and I enjoyed it.

This may be the best piece for bassoon ever written. There's really nothing else like this in Saint Saens repertoire because of it being one of the last things he wrote. I love how you can hear Bach's influence in the heavy use of suspensions, counterpoint and interlocking rhythmns.
