Play This Game to Build Mobility
There’s a revolution happening in science that is changing the way we understand and teach movement, and I’ve been working on a documentary about it for over a year now.
While you wait, here's a game that takes advantage of these new insights to develop mobility in particular, as well as balance, and even some strength, in a fun and engaging way.
With a partner, set a timer for 5 minutes. You'll give them a target to touch (i.e. your hand), and your partner has to touch a body part of your choice to that target for the full 5 minutes continuously. They'll stay within one of 4 categories of positions: standing, on all fours chest up, on all fours chest down, and bridge. Switch through differ...

How We Understand Perception & Movement (Julia Blau & Jeff Wagman)
Просмотров 2,9 тыс.6 месяцев назад
There’s a revolution happening in science that is changing the way we understand and teach movement, and I’ve been working on a documentary about it. But using this new approach, and reading about it wasn’t enough- so I flew all the way to norway for THE international conference on Perception and Action to meet and talk with the foremost researchers of the field in person. While there, I met Ju...

8 Months ago I moved across the country to work on the most exciting project of my career thusfar- a video distilling thousands of pages of science into a single, groundbreaking hour that unpacks and reconstructs a revolutionary understanding of movement. Throughout this project, I've had the pleasure of training with someone who has truly impressed me through his actions, words, and perspectiv...
A Better Definition of Movement: My Reaction to Ido Portal on the Huberman Podcast
Просмотров 24 тыс.Год назад
For many, the Ido Portal episode of the Huberman lab podcast was abstract, unclear, and unnecessarily mysterious. Yet, Ido presented some wonderful ideas in this podcast, and I've learned many more from him in person over the years. So I listened to the podcast 3 times, spent weeks processing and writing about what I believe are the most important concepts Ido mentioned in this video from my pe...
How to Program Your Own Training (For Movers)
Просмотров 19 тыс.2 года назад
Discipline creates freedom. Having structure is extremely important in any endeavor- but while resources exist for building programs for strength, or mobility, there aren't any freely available resources on designing a real movement program, which can be far more complex than any of its sub-disciplines. Until now. In this video, I'm going to go through all the most important concepts I use to d...
Liquid Steel Leg Conditioning Protocol (Ido Portal Organic Strength Concept)
Просмотров 14 тыс.2 года назад
Traditional strength training exercises challenge one axis through a stable range of motion. That's great, but it also won't prepare you to exert force, balance, and exhibit general movement intelligence in the vast network of potential affordances your body could have anatomically. What if you want to have much more freedom and access to what your (lower) body is capable of? Enter organic stre...
Quick, Simple, and Powerful Rehab Method For Any Injury

This is a quick, simple, and powerful rehab method I’ve created that my students and I have had success with for years; another framework you can use to help you heal any pain or injury. The M.O.V.E.R.S. method (described here) is like a tank. It takes significant time and energy to deploy, especially to formally go through all the assessments, but it will get you through the toughest obstacles...
I Spent Over 12 Hours Watching Every Single Video From The Knees Over Toes Guy.

I Spent Over 12 hours, in 5 days, watching every single video from the Knees Over Toes Guy- every single second of every public video on his RUclips channel as of January 1st, 2022, when I recorded this video. His fans say he’s cured them of chronic knee pain, his haters say he’s peddling dangerous pseudoscience. What do I think? This is my brutally honest review. While other reviews and reacti...
Watch This to Heal Any Injury Quickly & Effectively, By Yourself. (M.O.V.E.R.S. Method)
Просмотров 32 тыс.2 года назад
It's time to apply some real science to rehab. Pain science, an entire scientific field, was founded decades ago, yet its findings and implications have never penetrated to the general public. In fact, many healthcare practitioners are still ignorant of it. It's time we change this. A real understanding of the field of pain science (see ruclips.net/video/lTeYwfI1O68/видео.html) allows us to do ...

This video is goated. Thank you sir
Have you considered writing a book? This is wonderful 🎉🎉
Good stuff Bren thanks!
I'm currently researching this too, and trying to find the best reading material. What books have been reading?
Isn't that the Dork from the Park?
Loved the change on the direction of your voice when you change the inscription of the level of the movement. Love your work
This is superb
This routine is fantastic and just what I was looking for. Thank you! 🙏🏾
Hands down, the most sexiest sport there is. I can watch this all day!
Thanks so much, I got to refine my knowledge of the muscles and how they work :) also going to check out the book The Sports Gene, I also took away that the more I practice the better I get, even if I am getting "older"

Ido is the reason why conor became champ
What makes you think that?
u can't compare these with yoga though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why not?
8:28 disagree, lower body is actually rly important for rock climbing!!
i guess it depends on ur technique though
@@laylahope. Hey layla, of course! However, lower body strength is not demanded for rock climbing. (not at a high level)
For strength you need to do hard things. You cannot do hard things every day. High Intensity is in antithesis with high volume. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
Hi Marinca, your point makes alot of sense on paper, but the reality and the scientific literature both differ. First, there is no established upper limit for volume of maximum strength gains, and strength gains are associated with volume. Muscle gain even more so. Second, the bulgarian method, and the success of legendary coaches like Ivan Abadjiev, would not exist if that was the case.
@BrenTeachesMovement I don't see any scientific credentials unfortunately. Tell me how you do high volume HSPU without busting your shoulders. You can do high volume of handstand and low intensity weights indeed.
Can you do a BJJ strengthen program for easily injured joints such as knees and shoulders ?
I would love to, great idea
@@BrenTeachesMovement amazing, you would be my hero (and others im sure)
Bren Teaches Quitting
Can you elaborate why you're no longer a fan of Tim Ferris anymore?
Hey Bren! Thanks for taking the time to make this video, I know many will have their difficulties with it as it’s very objectionable to how we view reality, although I think it may only scratch the surface. Have you seen the works of Bernardo Kastrup or Donald Hoffman? It feels like it’s a natural progression.
Truth is not always easy to digest the first or even the second time around. Being sincere, clear, and specific with key questions makes this video a pleasure to hear, shows what you’d love to see happen and shows respect. Kudos for a well formulate and thoughtful video.
Beautiful and effective! You are a fantastic teacher! Also, your parents are adorable!
Why does the first guy have 2 watches?
To the point. (Euclid) Postulate 5: Given a line and a point not on the line, exactly one line can be drawn through the point that is parallel to the line. Point: A point is something that has no part Parallel lines (Postulate 5) can join two points, by constructing two chiral moebius strips. Moebius strips, which each have one edge. By joining those two edges a body is created that has no edge. However, this creates an exception at a single point. That point however is not defined by Euclid's definition of a point. The point exists on two lines, both of which are/were parallel lines on a flat page. The human eye is constructed as a klein bottle, which is defined by the above body defined above. Note 1. The "information" gathered the human eye passes through the Euclidian point defined above. Note 2. The human hands (hand heart emoji) form the same "point" as the junction of two chiral moebius strips. Newtons third law is recovered by sliding an object around a moebius strip through 360 degrees.
The external ears are moebius strips. Hence hearing is enhanced by the hands, which are moebius strips as described in another comment.
Light enters the fascia system, which is a fiber optic system directly connecting all tissues including muscle.
Keep going brother💪💪💪
Honestly I used to not like him until I actually met him. Once I met him I loved him he really knows what he talking about I didn’t get vibe that he had an ego at all. He seemed genuine
Love this example of the constraints led approach
It sounds like you want to blow up the movement and Ido is more interested in practice. Looking from the outside it seems a bit like sour grapes. The practice of it seems very advanced and difficult for a majority of population. I know that I have looked at it a bit and the idea seems interesting but to actually do it is very difficult and high level.
I subscribed to you a while back when I first discovered the Movement Culture because I really liked your perspective and practice of movement. At the time, I didn't know much about what perception & "movement" really was, it just felt intuitive and that there was truth to what you were saying in comparison with the popular understanding of fitness and exercise. Fast forward to now, I've been reading a lot of papers and books on the interesect between neuroscience and movement, and I stumbled upon embodied cognition. Crazy how all that digging took me full circle back to your channel! Currrently reading Annie Murphy Paul's "The Extended Mind," touches on a lot of what was covered in this conversation. Great stuff and super underrated, I feel like I should be paying for this!
Well done video brother❤
Love this style of content!! I think a mix of long and short content is perfect. Really liked the interviews but also the short form practical/implementable drills. Would love to see/hear more about your own practice and how its evolving
Motivation is a fleeting moment often mistaken in place of excitement- only discipline exists
Great stuff new sub here…

This is cool
I like the idea...What's the aim with respect to keeping balance? Should you remain cautious and avoid losing balance, or is pushing the limits of balance a feature, so that you will often find yourself becoming unbalanced and needing to steady yourself, or even fall and need to break your fall?
Excellent question, yes that's exactly right- pushing the limits of balance is a feature and exactly how we develop balance. There is an element of strength endurance of the muscles of the toes & feet that won't be challenged if you're falling too often, but yes we really want to challenge everything here, and balance becomes a bit novel as we get into some more creative and end range positions.
