Hi Rachel , I appreciate fascination with with these plants . I too Share a passion for CPS. One point of interest I have Rachel is growing D. filliformus Floridana red and white flower . These grow along the Florida Pan Handle . Their seeds need no cold stratification . And grow really . Summer temperatures range 90 s to Feb . Average low 60 •F . These are Ideal plants for my indoor terrarium. Or out side plants as well . Good luck and happy growing all .

Dude this was hilarious but very sad as well. All my plants are carnivorous and I actually just bought 2 terrestrial bladderworts yours are aquatic. I also have hitchhikers from other purchases. My advice would be to seek advice from a carnivorous plant forum. There’s a entire community that loves bladderworts. They have beautiful flowers and eat pest that are harmful to our other plants so in our world their very helpful. I’m sure you can get some advice and probably someone to even buy “the ugly thing from aliens” lol from you. I hope this helps and sorry again to hear about the experience but your right a carnivorous plant isn’t appropriate for your set up. Good luck

If they fall into the clutches of one of the “House Plant Group” Facebook owners, I joking call those plants a lost cause. There is a lot of misinformation about carnivorous plants, especially in those house plant groups. Their “experts” suggest keeping them in a terrarium, but what they truly need is full direct sun exposure outside.

Just built a bog exactly like this. Did you have any problems in winter with water freezing in the PVC pipes and expanding/cracking? Or water expanding/cracking the container itself? In Western Washington we've been getting some cold winter storms the past few years down to single digits at night. So curious if you've had issues with freezing in the pot and how you handled it.

I keep hearing how these things need seemingly more light than every freaking thing else, yet they often grow in nature at the base of an open pine forest. Yes, they get some direct sun because the forest is sparse, but they get filtered light too, so I don't know what to think of the lighting issue; i.e. if this is just another "must do" instead of a "probably a good idea" thing that got spread as fact.

I just started growing some traps from seeds indoors. I am using a full spectrum bright LED grow light. After two months they look like nice green mini traps. I give them 15 hours of light per day and spray them with distilled water in the morning and at night so they stay moist. When winter comes and the dormant period arrives, how indoors should I produce it? I understand the dormant period should be Nov-Mar. Do I just give them less light per day and if so how much light in time? From 15 hrs a day to what?
