Judge how long a project on the TV show you were watching while doing it
Thank you for showing us your labour of love. This was a calming remembrance of times gone by, a gentler time.
It is always nice to see some other peaople getting into the same historical 'eco friendly' game. I've started using proper handcerchiefs like a year ago. Altough when I was a kid, my grandma was adamant on using those, and so rest of the house also kinda did. But now I do appreciate them more than then. I've stared doing them by hand, with just tiny rolled hem, and then either leaving them plain as this, or adding small lace on the border (like top 1cm wide). And recently, as christmas gift for my brother, I've embrodered batman sign, now one from Tangled. So embroidering not only initials, but also some fandom logos is amazing way of personalising it. Not to mention you kind get a lot more use out of one linen hanky than one paper kleenex. Wonderfull video!
Ok when I thought I couldn’t possibly enjoy your videos more than I already did, an adorable poodle made an appearance ❤ I’m normally a cat person through and through, but if I were to ever have a dog, I’d definitely choose a poodle 😊
Omg i want to do this!
😍
That is absolutely beautiful
Thank you for this video, you have now inspired me to want to make a Victorian-inspired waistcoat/vest.
So awesome to see you again! I love this project.
Yay for ShannonMakes! I’ve also been making a crazy quilt, but I’m doing fall/halloween themed scraps :) It’s been so much fun.
Simply Beautiful 🤩
I had never had the pleasure of one of your videos coming up on my feed. Then today, out of nowhere I see "With a Murdoch Mysteries Twist" & HAD to check you out. Boy! Am I glad I did!!!! What could be better? A beautiful quilt AND a story behind it? Instant new subscriber. Love Shannon Makes. Love Murdoch Mysteries. Love Quilts. And now I Love your channel 💖💖💖
Thank you so much! 😊 welcome to the channel!
I just finished watching the video and have immediately gotten out my overflowing box of cabbage to sort through to make my own crazy quilt!
That's awesome, have fun!
What a fantastic quilt, and I must admit that the geeky part of it, really got me. It's such a great idea to let fans and others come and buy all the scraps from a loved show. Wish someone would think of this in denmark :-)
Couldn't agree more!
Oh my goodness, I have just discovered you and your channel, I just love your presenting style, slightly reminiscent of Rachel Makesy, but with your own twist, I love it! Also loving the content, and the squirrel scuttling down the tree behind you absolutely grabbed my attention! I have a BIG bag of scraps from multiple projects over many years. I’m thinking this type of project could be in my future… ♥️
@@deanneblake7418 welcome to the channel, you’ve made my morning!
👯♀️👯♀️👯♀️❤
I have an easy way to bind quotes. It’s so much better than having to use strips I leave the backing fabric half to 3/4 of an inch depending on how wide I want the binding and I cut away two layers and leave that backing layer out a little bit and make a nice ham around that and then I fold it over and I’ve got a binding that’s built-in it’s so much easier you know doing a little rolled him or a quarter inch him and have him the other half inch or a quarter inch I usually say go at 3/4 of an inch around and then quarter of an inch him and then fold it over and finding super easy
This is a triumph. Inspiring. Thank you
What a lovely crazy quilt. Thanks for this lovely video!
Gorgeous and inspiring work 🥰🥰🥰 Thank you for the great tutorial too.
Beautiful! You are an artist! I admire your patience.
I was waiting to see the whole blanket, it would have been nice to see the whole thing on a bed
Grazie per questo bellissimo video con tante tante informazioni interessanti. La trapunta è bellissima.
The squirrel behind. 🥰
Just living my best Disney princess life!
Thank you so much! I wanted to tackle this style of quilting after going to a quilt show at ROM. I am so grateful for your findings and history. I always wanted to reuse small pieces of fabric. 😊
You should definitely give it a try! I wanted to get to the ROMs exhibit but my schedule was super crazy lately - thankfully their online catalog is amazing!
there are ads in the middle of this ASMR video
So what is your point?
Well it’s not ASMR, and it’s also how I can afford to keep making videos so…
I appreciate the access to the embroidery stitches. I’m on pins and needles to do it.
A beautiful result. You are very talented. Embroidery is not frequently seen these days so I was very interested in your work. Thank you for sharing.
That was a lovely and thorough presentation. I really enjoyed it and I do feel inspired. My grandmother's crazy quilt technique was a bit more calculating. She did them in squares, like some of the ones you showed in your history of video.
I'm very tempted to give the 'make them in squares and then sew the squares together' method next time - it did seem like a popular option!
Gracias ❤❤❤
By “accident” I came across here. How happy I am now. It is the most beautiful blanket I have seen up today. What excellent and accurate stitches, with small lovely flowers, all patches in absolute harmony to the material and colors. It is a masterpiece. Excellent! Very, very beautiful. Thank you for sharing with us 🌷☺️. Warm greetings from Germany
Can I ask what size your quilt was? Xxx
It's about 50"x60" (If I remember my measurements correctly)
@HalflingSeamstress Oh, that's larger than I thought it would be! It's stunning! Thank you! Xxx
We had a beautiful crazy quilt in my family, and it’s made me obsessed with them since I was a teenager. I was heartbroken to ask about it years later and find out it had been ruined in (finished) basement water damage and my dad had gotten rid of it. I would love to make one and honor my relative’s hard work and artistry. They just light up every part of my brain.
Gorgeous ❤❤❤
My grandmother was still making crazy quilts in the 70's. Every grand daughter got to request a full size quilt of her choice and I chose a crazy quilt feather stitched in gold coloured thread. I still have it but many of the fabrics she used, simply rotted away, shredded, as you put it over the years 😢 Thank you for the deep dive into your older crazy quilt. Now back to your making of video!
I loved this -- wow, such talent. I want to give it a try - "one day!" Thank you for sharing such details - it turned out beautiful!
Thanks so much 😊
Beautiful crazy quilt, lovely creative embroidery stitches! I loved seeing your process. 💞
Thank you so much!
Love it! But how would you clean it?
Spot clean as needed, hand wash if absolutely necessary. Victorian crazy quilts were more decorative than practical, so likely minimal washing.
Absolutely stunning and a true legit hommage to Murdoch Mysteries. ❤️
Thank you so much!
I had a large pillow covered in crazy quilting on velvet and silk when I was a kid. It must have been made sometime in the 60s or early 70s. I wish I still had it, and have been thinking of recreating it. However, it is so difficult to find velvet that isn't made from synthetic materials, and silk has gotten so expensive!
Stunning quilt. And what a gem to have. I must admit I've never seen Murdoch Mysteries, but it looks like I may have to track it down. Hey loved the squirrel appearing behind you at 3:21.
It's a pretty awesome show, especially if you enjoy Victorian/Edwardian clothing and mysteries!
It looks great! Loved seeing the process of making it.
I love crazy quilts and I love Murdoch mysteries and I love the way you're doing it does not everyone likes to hand sew all the time but that one is fantastic
Your quilt is absolutely stunning, thank you for sharing your process. I’m all inspired now 🤩🤩
Yay! Thank you!
I like the idea of handkerchiefs, but hesitated making any because on the go, where do you put a wet one?
If it's 100% natural fibre like cotton or linen, light moisture (like drying hands) will dry out quickly. The modern solution would be to carry a ziplock bag and put them in while you're out and about, and throw them in the wash when you get home.
Beautiful. I.want to try making a.bag.like this
im moving to a much colder climate and i wanna make a robe with this technique
That would be so cozy and awesome! I've seen a couple of jackets on Etsy made from repurposed crazy quilts, so I'm sure making a new one would be fantastic!
I love that idea! I've wanted a housecoat like Bilbo's from the Hobbit for ages, and this is a perfect style for doing something like that. :)
@@gwenndolyncampbell1560 oh my god I just remembered there's a huge box of scraps upstairs, I might just be able to do it before I leave!
@@imperialdelights1123 Good luck, I hope your sewing goes smoothly!!
