Dylan and I decide to try something new...we are walking into the Kenai Canyon! This was a really fun trip, with great views and good fishing. The hike was really fun and the fishing was pretty good considering the limited fishing opportunities. Enjoy!

Catching a Sockeye Salmon on the Kenai River - Alaska
Going to kenai 1st 2weeks sept. Staying in soldotna. Will be mobile. Mostly walk and wade. Any suggestions where and what to use . Hope to hit the silvers. I fly fish mostly but will use terminal tackle. Thanks
Stomping through the salmon spawning grounds again I see 😒
Nice!
I like fish 🐟
Such a cool shot!
Barbless hooks just make it easier to set, as long as you keep constant tension then it’s not going anywhere
Dylan, the sculpin daddy!
Ha!
Unreal 👆
Where are you fishing for part 2?
@@fredshipblank Gonna have to wait to find out!
How did you even get that thing out ?
Lots of experience catching monsters
Great catch on the kenai
Can't wait!
How long til the full video comes out?
wanna take me fishing in July 2025!? Ill be staying a mile from this creek!
Wild how you spend all that money to get to the Situk.. Only to hike upriver in low clear to sight fish spawners... GTFO
Hope next year is a better year for you buddy. Happy holidays.
100% not to mention the dude with a legit bobber.... but using a fly rod n reel 🤣🤡
Salmon: IM GONNA BE LATE PUT ME DOWN!!! WAIT NOT THERE THE WATER
Elite net guy
Stfu. U ever bass fished? Nope
Womp womp, were legally allowed to fish them because theres enough that even 100’s of mistakes can happen and no harm no foul to the species whatsoever
In Finland we eat a lot of the fish that we catch
Same here.
Or need to learn how to tie a knot
🎣 ❌🤲✅
I’m not good enough to go barbless 😂
If u use a barbless hook then the fish will come off
I think this is caused by bass fisherman trying trout fishing for once and treating the trout as if there bass setting the hook way to hard
That’s not from hooks. Barbed hooks can cause some damage but nothing like that. That fish probably has some sort of bacterial infection, or a fungal infection. Not to mention it doesn’t seem to be slowing down the fish. Those wounds are old and that fish looks well fed. So go grab you fly pole and go feel holier than thou somewhere else.
Respect
It's not only beacuse of barbed hooks its also caused by people seeting the hook like they have a 600 pound goliath grouper
CAP theye damage even more by wiggeling around in there mouths
Remember guys, barbed hooks = down syndrome fish. Yall be safe
Even though it's in south Alaska. That were NOT anglers. That was a bear, a bird or any predator but not a lure 😂
Yeah its still a nightmare to take a barbed hook out of a fish
We have to use barbles but the natives get to use a net how the he'll is that fair
It's probably just an irresponsible fisherman/kid
Tell me you know nothing about fishing without telling me. Barbed hooks didn’t do that and won’t do that unless you’re an absolute dummy.
Thats bait sir 😂😂😂
I took the barbs off my weighted trouble hook It still does just as good
Fr this trick works so good sight fishing
Thats my favorite fly pattern!
That's not from a barb hook
In my part of the world, only City Slickers do catch'n release... We fish to consume it...
I eat fish that i catch so no
And barbless hooks takes more skill cause they can slip off easier and gives the fish a more fair fight
I think this is not caused by hooks
Why do barbed hooks cause that, I thought that was just from people setting the hook too hard or holding it by the mouth when they already damaged the jaw after doing so
@@enzoerwin3464 Typically people don’t hold them by the jaw up here like they do bass down south. The barbless hook hurts the fish more when you go to remove it.
@@alaskafishhunters I get that but how is it literally going to rip off the bottom lip, I feel like that must be from other causes
@@enzoerwin3464 There could be a deformity involved, but this fish has probably been caught hundreds of times. It takes its toll after a while
Middle of Alaska and thinks a hook did that
We were actually in the southern part of Alaska, and these fish can be caught hundreds of times in their lifetimes.
@@alaskafishhunterssurvival rate post catch is like 93%, so wouldn’t exactly say 100’s of times.
Seal?
My guess is a mixture it being caught a lot and a deformity.
Dinner
Nah, we eat the salmon and let the trout go for the most part
😂
Thats def some treble hook asshole. A single hook with a barb IS NOT GUNNA DO THAT!!! NO FUCKING WAY!!!
Little more explanation please?
Not really sure, probably a combination of being caught a lot and some kind of deformity
I think the fish is missing a portion of its lower jaw
Always used barbless
What kind of reel is that purple one?
It is a Nautilus Reel.
@@alaskafishhunters Thanks! Looks cool
@@alaskafishhunters Holy buckets!!!! They ain't cheap! At least the ones I looked up!
@@Alaskahuntr They are very nice reels!
That's not scotland
Correct
Nice fish! Love the tippet ring.
Yea you can find them at Sportsmans!
