    I'm so old school I've long thought of that carbine as the ultimate survival or even "bug out" carbine especially when paired with a matching revolver. With a couple of spare loaded cylinders, you could go WAY back in the hills, so to speak, and keep yourself and/or your family fed and protected. Sadly, for reasons I have yet to find any documentation/justification for, hunting with revolving rifles or shotguns is and has been illegal for many, many decades here in S.C.. I can only assume that sometime way, way back in time, somebody important or associated with somebody important suffered a hand injury by trying to shoot a revolving carbine or shotgun with their weak or off hand in front of the cylinder and they, or their survivors, campaigned to have such firearms made illegal for everybody else to hunt with. You can own 'em and you can shoot 'em.....You just can't legally hunt with them.

Nice videos, we're lucky to have affordable reproductions. The old .36 Navy still my favorite, the .44 version is almost as cool. I like unboxing videos. It's like watching someone else Christmas. Those bird's head grips are really nice. I have one in 44 cal. and changed out the barrel which was nothing more than an 1860 cut down. I slapped on an 1851 44 cal. 7.5 in. barrel and it has a sweet balance to it. I plan on purchasing a 5.5 in. 44 cal. barrel for it. Those Pietta's interchange parts quite well, except for the confederate reproductions.

Funny, I didn't like loading this thing and shooting it as a cap and ball, ruclips.net/video/lVNs7LtqU70/видео.htmlsi=0WtLEHREeAZg7oz5 . Even though I have several cap and ball revolvers that I love. Once I put the conversion cylinder in it I fell in love with it. I got to put on my Lee Van Cleef with it! Ha ruclips.net/video/LZM5lLNF4lw/видео.htmlsi=qDy_tgp2-x8RjC3k

    Great video, loved it. I've never owned or even shot one of those carbines. However as I've told you before I used to shoot long range BP pistols from a sandbag rest and sat down at 100 yards. My .36 Uberti Navy Colt performed very well with 25 grains of TS2 powder and a .375 ball, shooting at a standard target -- 6 shots in 30 seconds. So your .44 carbine should do well at that sort of distance. Yes it does need a little adjusting of the foresight but its shooting well -- would the .457 ball be better? Never liked the Remington pistols as mine always clog up on the spindle/arbour pin whereas the Colts always seem to be clear of that problem but can get remains of caps stuck into the action. I believe the 'shooters of yesteryear' used to hold the pistol (barrel up high and back towards you) in the air to allow any old caps to fall away instead of going down into the action. Wouldn't be allowed on a modern shooting range of course.

      Hey thanks! I’m gonna be doing 100 yards soon to see what my luck is! I never tried 457. It calls for 451 but I used 454. Maybe I’ll try that. Hey thanks. If you get a chance fire one. Kinda fun. I’m not a Remington guy.

    ive always thought a single action army in dedicated carbine format wouldve been a really neat thing i know heritage makes one but one in say .38/357 or .45 would be pretty neat

  • @KathrynLiz1
    @KathrynLiz1 6 дней назад

    I have owned and shot two of these over the last 30 years or so. I found them accurate and a lot of fun. If you are getting splatter on your face your cylinder gap is probably a bit wide. My first one did that until I fixed it. The one I have now doesn't spit as it is set up better, although the mainspring was weak...so fixed that too. I use mine in Western Action events in the rifle section, changing cylinders after the first four rounds for a previously loaded and capped one. I run them full throttle, like the matching pistols.

      @CapBallFanatic-gb3jb 6 дней назад

      I think you’re probably right. To shoot it our face is tucked pretty close to the hammer which is probably part of it. It isn’t a big problem…just irritating. Thanks

    Nice reflection on confederate production. Most of the gun barrels made in the south were round because octagonal barrels meant more machining steps with a mill. Steel was very precious material when there were plenty of brass bells to be melted down. (There were warehouses full of bells in New Orleans when captured).

    I find that blow-back to the face interesting because that was the main reason I got rid of my Remington 1858 (pistol). Different nipples helped a bit but nothing I did stopped it entirely so I passed it on along to a new owner who shot it several times before buying it. He said he didn't think it was all that bad, or at least thought he wouldn't, but I was darn happy to part with that one even at an almost give-away price. Is this a fairly common problem with the Remington? I understand that kind of thing can happen occasionally with any Cap&Ball revolver but that one was bad enough to cause it to be down right unpleasant to shoot.

      @@CapBallFanatic-gb3jb About what I figured otherwise it would have been discussed more since these revolvers are so common. Still it got my attention when you mentioned it and I remembered all the "pepperings" I got from that thing and it left me with a bad feeling about what is in all likelihood a very good revolver. That was some years ago and was only the second Cap&Ball I had owned and outside of changing the nipples I really didn't spend all that much effort trying to determine the problem. All that aside, THAT is a fine looking carbine there and while that type of rifle may be very different from what most of us are accustomed too I really like the looks of it!
