How I STOP MICE from getting in my RV - No Mice 3 Years Later! #mouseproofrv
Просмотров 133 тыс.3 года назад
Mice get into your RV through holes. Traps, poison, and repellents DO NOT SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. Mice and rodents climb in your RV camper underbelly, ceiling, heat ducts, climb up tires, jack stabilizers, landing gear, finding holes and gaps in the floor and frame, then crawl into the living space. Use these 5 techniques to totally mouse proof your RV. Each solution resolves a specific type of hol...

Hi there. I got a Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED KC(2021). I want to upgrade my RAM from 16BG to 32GB. Which band of ram would you recommend? Thank you so much!
I like Corssair, something like this but you need to check compatibility with your machine so dont just buy this linked product, im sending it as a concept: www.amazon.com/dp/B08GSTF5NJ/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_apa_gl_i_V2028ZXCQJAQ6X15RVTP?linkCode=ml2&tag=whatsmygear08-20 and there are other great brands. I've had good luck with Kingston too.
Dont these come with liquid metal out the factory? So using anything else will provide worse results?
Rat proofing all the penetrations
Absolutely
I have a Gigabyte Aorus 15G KC with an i7 10870H and a RTX 3060. I have planned to replace my cpu fan since it started rattling around 3 weeks ago. Is it necessary to replace the thermal pads as well when removing the heatsink? Or is only repasting my cpu and gpu enough?
I dont know. But I would guess they are fine if you can preserve them and keep them clean throughout the process
Nice! I followed this vid to access the fans and I found that the fan blade assembly can be gently pulled free from the motor. I did this and put a tiny bit of grease in the spindle hole. I changed the thermal paste and blew out the dust. Runs much cooler and silent now. Very happy! Just consider that maybe a noisy fan is an easy fix before ordering a replacement.
I didn’t know that was possible. Thanks for sharing!
I use general purpose strength Simple Green on my roof. Spray it on, let it sit for a bit, spray with some water, a little scrubbing with a soft bristle brush, and rinse. Looks like a new roof. I also wash and rinse the whole camper right after. I do this in the fall just before putting up the camper.
I'll have to try that stuff. Never used it on a roof
Very helpful thank you
Glad you found value in it 😀
Thanks, ill pass.
Yeah this stuff didn't help me, I found another product that worked.
so i park my motor on a gravel spot and the squirrels were killing me. so i have 200 gallons of old fuel oil and i soak the ground with the fuel oil and they stay away
I wonder if that will have unintended consequences.
Works well because it has bleach in it. I would recommend washing the roof and the entire trailer with something else after the bleach wash.
Agree, that's exactly what I show in the video 😀
I didn't hear you say anything about needing to keep the expanding form can upright. It doesn't squirt upside down, and it doesn't squirt sideways or even tilted at an angle, it must be upright.
Hmm, which brand did you use? I think some brands can do any direction. But i don't think i needed to hold it upside down, I held it upright the whole time and was fine. But you still need to make sure you use protective safety equipment so you don't get the foam in your eye or on your skin, etc.
Thanks for the great video, Ted! You showed a lot of spots I hadn’t thought of. The video at this link shows a great experiment on what size hole mice can fit through. Multiple holes were setup with baits on the other side. Mice were recorded entering all the round holes that were just under dime size and larger and they ate all the bait in those cubbies. Mice could not get into the smaller round holes. For longer gaps, they can flatten their body and squeeze into something that is only 14mm - my pencils are smaller than that, but I think a pencil is a good guide to use. ruclips.net/video/pNaz4keivMk/видео.html We had mice get into the underbelly of our rv, then into the furnace vents and into the living area from the heating vents on the floor. We’re going to do everything that you showed in your video to keep them out of the underbelly but in case we miss something, we already covered the grill on the furnace with ¼” mesh (used fireproof thermal tape to attach it around the edges while being careful not to block the air flow). In case that fails, we also pulled up the floor heater vents and placed a smaller mesh in those so mice can’t come up between the louvres of the vents - used the smaller mesh that is used to prevent wasps from getting in on the floor vents. We plan to pull the cover off on the a/c which is located on the roof and look for things that need to be mouse proofed there. We never leave food in the RV when we’re gone, and I always wipe everything down and mop before we close it up, but mice still came in. It didn’t look like they stayed long but they definitely explored and left droppings in various places and peed in the floor vents. I’ve also seen videos on youtube where people set up cameras after spraying peppermint and other mint oils, but the mice and rats are not even phased by it. Your focus on sealing entry points is definitely the course of action that is needed to win the war on rodents. Thanks again for a great video!
We had already sprayed foam to seal the underbelly but obviously missed some places.
Thank you for the kind words and sharing your past experiences and findings! This is super helpful
Does it have bleach? If so, no harm to the metal siding on stick and tin built campers
It smells like bleach so I assume so.
I have used this stuff on moldy siding down in TN and it is simple and does and awesome job.
I've started using it on siding, my shed, and other stuff too. It's been working great. Just need to wear clothes you don't care about in case you splash enough of it to stain. But i have a few sets of painting clothes that works perfectly because they are already trashed 😀
Great. I found the 30 second cleaner at tractor supply (cheaper than other cleaners) and then looked for a video showing if it's save for RV roofs. Thank you for posting this video.
Sure thing! Let me know how it works for you 😀
Great video, thank you for sharing.
You are welcome!
HI I am wondering, when you put the expanding foam into the inside of the closed slides, can they then open or do you have to somehow cut it away when you open it? Also: What do you do about the AC unit?
I put very little foam in the air gap around the slide cutouts. As a result, the foam did not expand enough to inhibit slide closure. But if it did, I think it could be easily trimmed off to be flush with the wall. For my AC, check out my AC soft start video. I do a seal job on that toward the end. ruclips.net/video/C-Yg6zhNCYY/видео.htmlsi=fzo7grdO0pWTe9TK
I followed the video and I thought everything went well but after plugging in the battery again the computer won’t stay powered on. Any suggestions?
My guess is either the heat sink / thermal compound is not dissipating heat fast enough resulting in a thermal shutdown to protect the CPU. Or maybe one of the connectors you removed then replaced is not fully connected.
West Hollow
What does this mean
A few questions. I’m curious about how much cleaner do you think you used to clean the roof? What is the yellow handled pistol thing that you had on the table? Also did you use normal wash n wax soap or something special to clean the sides after the roof was clean? Thanks
I think i used how ever much was in the bottle that attaches to a hose (not the gallon size). The yellow thing is battery-powered pressure washer (not required to wash the RV), I believe the soap I used is linked in the video description. Actually, everything in the video should be linked in the video description. Hope that helps.
@@WhatsMyGear appreciate it!
Thanks, Ted and Paul! Great video. If you have started your own RUclips channel for RV Repair Paul, please ask Ted to send his neighbor Tom the link.
Paul hasn't started a channel yet. I will pass on the vote of confidence 😀
I’ve been wanting to try this cleaner on my vinyl siding but worried about the overspray getting on my RV roof. Your video just sold me on using it for everything. It looks like it does a lot better than regular roof cleaners. 👍🏼👍🏼 Thanks
Every RV could have different results because materials and environmental variables could be different. If you are worried about your siding, it shouldn't hurt to get it wet with water first, so that the chemical dripping from the roof has something to dilute it on the way down. Then wash the whole rv after you completely rinse the roof. That removed streaks for me on the side walls. Hope this works out for you.
I have a question the fan and cpu fan connectors do they go in with the end of the connector pin side up or down?
I thought they only fit one way because I thought the connector was a directional fit connector. But I could be misremembering. Your best bet is to take a picture of each connector on your system before disconnecting it. Or watch the video and pause it, maybe zoom in at the moment when I disconnect and reconnect the wires. Hope this helps.
Well I’m sold.
I am very happy with the results. It's the only way I clean my RV roof now.
What's on the other side where the screws would go? You just had the cover off, just look inside, you are worried about a little air leak? what about the black cover that heats everything under it up? In the hot sun, black paint can heat up to between 130-150 degrees, paint it white
Even with the cover off, we can't see inside the air duct. That's why we moved it to the other side. The concern is that there could be wires on the other side or anything else unknown that we don't want rubbing on the sharp end of the screws over time. An air leak from screw holes is not a concern. Painting is an interesting idea. White would be cooler.
Great vid! Do you ever use heat shrink tubing instead of the electrical tape?
Yeah, if I have it on hand, I use it.
any idea what is the brand of the crimping tool?
I thought I linked it in the video description. Check there, and if it's not, I'll find out for you.
Well done and much appreciated.
Thank you!!!
I would use a pressure washer .
Im a little concerned about the pressure doing damage. If you try it let me know if it works. I'm always interested in new options.
@@WhatsMyGear Yes , electric ones have less pressure than gasoline ones . I'm thinking a electric one that auto detailers use for vehicles .
Great product and great product support from Soft Start
It's been working well for me since I installed it. 😀
This video is beyond helpful ty so much for making this!
I really appreciate your comment. I just want to help people win the battle against mice! We all buy these RVs and spend hard earned money on them. The last thing we want is mice to ruin it. Have a great day my friend!
@@WhatsMyGear my rv is beyond bad..... like seriously health hazard right now.
Sounds like it's time to evict the mice! Good luck. You can beat them in this rodent battle!
Do they make a plug and play? Also how do I find out if my 2019 22RR forest river greywolf allready has one installed I bought it used?
I don't know if a plug and play version exists. I think you would have to take off the AC cover to see if one is installed already.
Thank you so much for your video! After I saw your video, I did this on my RV roof as well and had amazing results.🎉
So glad it worked for you! Thanks for the comment!
What’s the best way for applying foam above you? Always wants to fall. Is there a specific type of applicator or brand that mitigates this?
Great question, I'm not an expert, just a guy with an RV. But in my opinion, first thing is safety, keep your face, eyes, and anything else out of the path that foam could fall. The second thing I do is hold the dispensing tube within a space that allows the foam to contact 2 or 3 surfaces while being applied so that it has more surfaces to grip. So, for example, in a corner rather than just a flat surface or in the air gap of a joint. I also don't press the trigger all the way. Press partially, so it's a little slower release. The reason for that is that it seems to squish its way into the gap better and make better grip than when going full speed fast.
@@WhatsMyGear thanks for the response- great channel
Just did this on my RV & like everyone here says, worked fantastically! Thanks for the informative video 👍🏻
You are welcome! So glad it helped!
Go for it, Paul!
I hope he does!
Adding vasoline jelly around the water and power cords will also stop ants and spiders from climbing up them and into your Rv . As well as any other wires like tv ect.
Ahh, never heard that one before. Thanks for sharing.
What about the dash? They're getting into my RV from the dash.
Do you have a class A or class C motor home? Mine doesn't have dashboard.
Why don't they just install these at the factory ridiculous! I guess it keeps the aftermarket companies in business. Thanks for the good video!
My guess is money and greed 😀. It would cost more to put them in. Even if they pass the cost to consumers, a competitor would just lower costs by taking them out, and most people wouldn't know or care. Most people just want the creeper unit. Then we are back where we started. Btw thanks for the comment. It really helps the channel! ❤️
Paul! Start a channel for us do it yourselfers who need a little hand holding.
Agreed! That's for the comment!
Just wanna let you know I had the same problem on my 35 foot Coachmen travel trailer. It’s on the oak trees. I use the whole gallon of simple green port straight on the roof and added simple green mixture in a bucket and scrubbed it for 2 1/2 hours what a waste of time, picked up that 30 second cleaner that you talked about and boy oh boy I was done in probably 35 minutes 45 minutes. Tops roof looks brand new thank you a ton. Take care.
So glad it worked for you!
Thank you for sharing…. Very informative and helpful
Glad you got value!
#sortstartrv Great job. Thanks Paul!
😀
Question my power cord burned out and I changed the ends which connects to the power post but my electricity gave out what do I do to fix it. My dad did it with wires first then it's only gave out lights when dim. How do I fix. Any advice or thoughts on that please and thank you.
Something else seems to be an underlying issue that caused the cord to burn out. I would investigate that first. For example, I would suspect your breakers should have tripped before your cord burned. Or the cord is too thin, not a heavy enough guage to handle the amperage of power you are drawing. The underlying issue could have also damaged something else in your electrical system, resulting in other symptoms in addition to your cord.
Hi, I was wondering what are the fans that you used in the video? And are they still working after 4 months?
They are still working, and I'm happy with them so far. Links to them should be in the video description.
This stuff really works. Tried it out my roof looks new again. Well worth the money.
I'm so glad it worked for you! I continue to use it on my roof and started cleaning concrete and my composite decking. I love this stuff.
HUGE thanks! I learned a ton! You now have one more subscriber.😊
Thank you so much! Glad you got value from this!
Hi . The most of gigabyte laptops fan gets fail . 😢
I didn't know that. I hope this video helps others.
does this fan fit for gigabyte aorus 17g yc ?
No idea. You would have to research that on the seller's page on Amazon by searching the Questions section or check the fan compatibility section written by the manufacture of the fan. Or take your fan out of your laptop, look at its model number and seaech Google for compatible replacements, and see of this one matches those replacements.
@@WhatsMyGearthanks
Well, RV techs say to never use bleach on a rubber roof!
The manufacturer says it can be used on rv rubber roofs if used as directed, so it's up to each person to research and decide what they want to do. Personally, I hadn't seen any negative effects on my roof yet.
