Live music, Blutone solo set at The Brickhouse Coffee Shop in Sawston, Cambridgeshire

This morning I had the pleasure of playing a solo set with my trusty @fender MIJ Stratocaster playing #blues and #rocknroll favourites whilst punters were tucking into their delicious all day breakfasts at The Brickhouse Coffee Shop in Sawston, Cambridgeshire. Many thanks my friend Ati who shared his video with me. If you are ever in Sawston do pop into the Brickhouse, you will not be disappoin...
My first time exploring P90 pickups.
I would hazard a guess that most guitarists will be familiar with single coil pickups that related to telecasters and Stratocasters and perhaps don’t have as much experience with the original single coils that Gibson released as early as the 1930’s. I would be one of those guitarists who have not really spent time on a P90 or ‘ soapbar’ pickup. My friend Chris leant me his Ibanez AG73T which he...

Demonstrating some tones on my Valeton GP-200 with my PRS SE Starla

I recently purchased a Valeton GP-200. Initially I found my transition to a digital modeller and effects a little overwhelming until I had an epiphany. I don't need to make my set up complicated. So I have set this up purely as a signal chain with effects that I would use with my analogue effects rig and I have to say I absolutely love it. Having recently gigged with it through my BOSS Nextone ...

Always dig your taste my friend. That's another guitar i've been curious about every time i see and ad for it. It sure looks cool and sounds good when you're playing it.
Hey Rick, great to hear from you and thanks for your kind comments. If I am honest with you for a while I wasn't liking the electric part of this acoustic but then I realised it was the Roland Cube Street that wasn't playing well with it. I was really impressed with the Bose for the acoustic. It works well with my strat too for more rhythm styles. How are you doing?
Ive got one of these Swingsters. The problem I have is the strings popping off the bridge specially the top, thin E string. Really annoying...any solution?
@@johnridley2374 I have the same problem. For me it is when I can't hear myself whilst gigging so I strum harder so I turn up the volume and play lighter.
ohh, so that's what was happening to me lmaooo. nice vid!
Hello. Do you think this swingster is better than Gretsch 5420T? I hesitate between the two guitars but cannot play one. Thank you for your advise!
Oh that is a great question! I really liked both when I was looking. In hindsight, the controls of the Gretsch would probably be a better fit for me now (I like the master volume knob which the swingster doesn't have) , that said, I love the pull out tone knobs that give Parallel/Series Switching that the Gretsch doesn't have but I use a lot. With the Bigsby, I love the wire handle versus the Gretsch handle, it gets in the way less. The pickups are different between the two so obviously the sounds will be. I don't think the Swingster sounds like a 5420. So on balance, they are very different guitars and the choice will be subjective. If you want that Gretsch sound then don't get the Swingster. If you want a guitar that REALLY rocks then the Swingster is a great alternative to the Gretsch but the pickups will sound more like Epiphone/Gibson humbuckers but with more tonal variation. The choice is yours really. I got my Swingster with £200 discount so it was a no brainer. Without that I may have got the Gretsch. I like both! Sorry I can't be more helpful!!
@@blutonemusic thank you ! your response is very helpfull for me ! Have a nice day. Pablo
@@Jack01390 It is a pleasure! Thanks for the question!
I don’t think you mentioned it in this video, but when I discovered the push pull tone knobs on the swingster, it opened up another level of tones. I love the thing. I just wish it went past the 20th fret!
Sounds great! I was hoping to hear the Swingster - I am considering picking one up for the same sorts of solo gigs and I am wondering how a hollowbody sounds in that context. Subscribed!
Hi there, I have used the Swingster in a 'busking' context a few times now. I have found that it can provide a lovely chord strumming tone, nice, one the edge of breakup, Blues and in turning down the tone yields a nice mellow jazz tone. In fact I have found that in pulling out the tone pot on the neck with the bridge in standard (pot down) that gives me my favourite, slight bite, tone with the edge of breakup tone on the amp. Hope this helps. Regards John
The Epiphone swingster is beauty. I had a Eastman jazz box, strat and tele. Sold them all and prefer this old girl. It has that 50's vibe and crazy for the price. I also have the boss nextone amp...couldn't be happier😀👍

I have the Chinese Epiphone Casino and the USA made one. As good as the Chinese ones have become, there still lacking in the Electircs and pickups, Tuners, nut, Bridge. There a fun project, plus i am happy to gig with one.
@@marccarter1350 I would love to try a US made one!
@@blutonemusic The USA one is on a different level. Fit and finish are bang on. Its like jumping into a posh car. I would not take it busking thou, that where the Chinese one fits in.
@@marccarter1350 Yes, I agree about the busking element for expensive guitars. Mine wasn't too expensive and I got a good deal on top of that. So I have good tone, nice looks and something that is fun to play. It has taught me a thing or too as well which I like.
Nice pickin'
Thank you! What stuff do you play?
I've had 4 of these before and still got 2. One is very good and the one set up by Sam Deeks is excellent. Check out the V6 used. The red one I have (the excellent one) cost me only £130 and it came with a Gator hard case!
Sounds like a bargain!
These are definitely quality guitars.. I used to sell most of their range...The Wilkinson hardware is mostly ok... One of their best ever guitars is the Les Paul greeny take Lemon Drop.. Especially the ones before they changed to the funky neck heel and the subtle changes to the body curves...
Did you have your own shop?
@@blutonemusic I had an online music sales business but did collections as well..
@@pauljohnson3686 That sounds great. I wondered about doing something similar.
Can u please point out the difference between V6 icon and V60 Coaster series?
@@BigBoss-md4wp I think the biggest difference is that the electronics are not Wilkinson but Entwhistle based and I think the body is heavier. I have not tried one although I have tried the T style and it was great for the money. That said if I got a beginner guitar that I wanted to keep into being intermediate then I would stick with the V6. The one I reviewed had awesome playability and great tuning stability. I would happily gig with it.

Are you sure that's not just an old used guitar?
It has certainly been designed to look like that!
@@blutonemusic Alrighty then....if that's what you want to believe, that's fine.
Nobody needs guitars. We want them.
The Gibson SG is NOT a pointy guitar its a blues machine
Beg to differ in terms of the pointy bits!! Blues wise I totally agree. Derek Trucks proves that but his guitar has points on it 🙂
Sounds so good, my dude. Thanks for sharing this. 🎶
That's very kind of you to say. Do you play? Tell me about your gear, I'd love to know more
7:20 A compound radius is actually the opposite - the frets at the headstock end are MORE curved and gradually get flatter as you go higher up the neck
You are absolutely right! I got that confused. It's about a 9.5" radius at the nut end and about 14" at the 22 fret. Equally the shape of the neck is a modern 'C' to 'D'. A very interesting guitar. Thanks for pointing out the error.
John
@@blutonemusic Muchas gracias John. Muy amable como siempre
The three guitars you need are an electric solidbody, a full-size acoustic with a microphone pickup, and a small parlor or single 0 acoustic.
Well you can't have enough acoustics, to be sure. I have a full size and a parlour however both need upgrades with the electrics. I tend not to use them gig wise but never say never... What do you play? How do you use the guitars that you mentioned?
@@blutonemusic I use my parlor when I'm sitting in my recliner. It's small and I use it for doodling and coming up with new ideas. I use my 000 acoustic while standing up and practicing songs since I mostly play that on stage. I don't always plug it in at home, but I use it with a metronome for cleaner playing. The electric is for pretending I'm a rock god.
That behavior is nothing weird at all
Thanks!
Beautiful guitar. Looks like the scratch you are referring to is a neck pocket "stress crack" in the nitrocellulose. Almost all strats have that over time. Enjoy!
Thank you! Actually you know what. I thought exactly that but for some reason I'm not sure that this is a typical neck pocket lacquer crack. Whoever had it before must have had some kind of freak accident with a screw driver or something. Weird. It's such a shallow scratch. It might even polish out
I love my pearl white and gold one!
I bet that looks so good!
bra ya should a used the humbucker in stead of da single coil setting
Thanks for your comment but this guitar doesn't have a single coil setting but it does have the ability to switch between parallel and series mode.
That’s my friend Alice. I’m not surprised she’s popular. She’s a great drummer. Keep up the great work Alice.
Las guitarras FÉNIX BY YOUNG CHANG CUSTOM Son buenas guitarras. Muchas gracias
¡Hola!
amazing‼️
That's some spectacular playing man. Nice job. That is a gorgeous Strat. Nice color and man that's a wonderful sound.
Thanks for your kind words! This thing is giving me a lot of joy!
You can’t go wrong with Japanese strats I have an 89 it’s so nice
I am so pleased with it! A pleasant surprise!
Yeah, knew that Gibs/Epis were wired that way. Don't know why. I have an SG and my daughter was dating a guitar repairer and he asked if I wanted it wired to the volume controls were separate from each other, turn one off, the other stays on. I had him do it. It's still that way.
That reminds me of a mexican roadhouse strat I bought second hand that had no fret wear and was spotless. It had a 12" radius,USA noiseless pickups(not sure if they were generation 4) and the colour was called "mystic ice blue" or something similar. It was a high quality guitar but I never properly bonded with it-i realise now because the neck pickup was crap, it didn't have enough treble, and it also didnt really sound very good on any pickup, but I liked it so much that bought another one brand new that was white with a maple fretboard instead of pau ferro as a backup. But strangely enough, the blue was a 2016 model, and the white was a 2017 model, supposedly the same specs, but the neck on the white was noticeably thicker and it sounded much better. Still muted and crap on the neck pickup, but the bridge pickup was amazing. springy, juicy tone, ideal for my funk style of playing.(i dont use positions 2 or 4). Anyway, that's my guitar nerd story! I should have kept the white one and got a decent neck pickup for it
It is so interesting what sparks us as guitarists. I absolutely love the neck pup sound on this guitar but I'm more bluesy than funky based.
I had a Squier telecaster and modded it. I sold it. I wish i didn't because it had that tele tone. Now, i cant find it. Looking for that strat now. Unfortunately, they're too expensive. I can make a better guitar for way less now. I have a MIJ Squier stratocaster contemporary bullet 1. Much the same for me. Vintage is the way.
Wow! Absolute stunner! HNGD - Congrats 😀👌
Thank you! I'm having a lot of fun with it
Telecaster ! sometimes a huge surprise what actually you like the most, what I stumbled upon after trying a few teles was actually a Squire Classic Vibes 50´s and in Butterscotch of course ;) , I just fell in love with it after sitting and playing, neck just fit my hand like a glove, and pickups I was surprised.. not sure if mine are org but it has a great sound, check it out ;) perhaps you´ll be as surprised as I was. Did some neckwork, smoothed some frets and all the rest, and I could not be happier....
I almost did the same with the paranormal Nashville Strat...
Happened to me with used Guild d50 sitting dusty on a stand in the corner of Guitar Center (with the serial numbers sort of scratched out) 10 yrs ago (wasn't in the market for a guitar, much less a dread), and then 2 weeks ago (again!) with a Squier 60's CV Strat - but both just felt so right in hand, regardless of the stats - sometimes magic just happens
Who are we to stand in the way of fate? 😉
Very appreciated that you made this review. Cheers!
No problem. I hope that it has helped you in some way.
Buenas noches John Desde Barcelona (ESPAÑA) Una pregunta.
Preguntaré a mi Luthier profesional. Muchas gracias
Another very useful video, thanks!
It's a pleasure! Thanks for watching!
I need one, stat.
NGD is all I live for. Going bankrupt.
Poor you. 😂
To be fair....
That is a mighty fine Telecaster
Maybe we can find you one when we visit @andertons on the 2nd March....
Sounds like a plan 😊
A real player no stupid pedals and ridiculous distortion 🥳🥳🥳🥳
I often don't use distortion. A little colour from some OD at times and a little delay adds a little seasoning too 🙂
you mean like The Edge of U2 fame ?😁
I got a Nextone over a Katana for the same reason. Yes I will occasionally use the editor, but the simplicity of the amp top controls plus the GAFC with a couple of other pedals gives me lots of options. I had a GT-100 modeller before and suffered from option paralysis
I try to avoid Option Paralysis 🙂
