Can you cross into Botswana from within the park?
@reelgreens4127 I think you can cross into Nambia but not sure about Bots sorry.
Well produced video and a very handy resource for a forthcoming visit to Cape Town!
Geweldig verslag van jullie tour. Alleen jammer dat de auto bkijft draaien als er gefilmd wordt.
Sadly I had a lot of sound issues including my wife talking over much of the content so had to replaced the actual sound track across a lot of the whole full length video.
Please include a pause before your ID the bird. For anyone trying to use such a video to learn to ID birds themselves or to teach a kid to ID birds, the video is useless if the answer is presented immediately!
Thanks for the comment, I'll bare that in mind going forward so to confirm you'd like to see a bit of footage of the bird and then a few seconds later the name pop up? Yes?
@@shaunferguson8782 Correct - much appreciated.
If you're trying to learn the birds of Thailand these videos are perfect
great videos. like a video bird guides. so helpful as I work on getting better at bird ID
Interesting video Shaun. Have walked Thursley a few times, but only the fringes of Hankley. I presume all ok to walk even when the squaddies are leaping arounding in the bushes?? 🔫
You deserve a medal for wading through that lot. I'm in trainers from March. Hate mud and this year has been awful. Luckily I can see most of these species at Crossness and stay dry.
Any photos clear enough to get the ring number on that Tern?
Afraid not.
Excellent video. I could spend all day watching this. Fingers crossed for this year ❤
Sadly I've not seen them once this year HOWEVER they are there I've been told.
@@shaunferguson8782 yes I went looking tonight with no luck sadly
Thanks for this, I enjoyed it on my commute. Looks like it's definitely worth visiting.
If you love Thursley Cmn then this will be right up your alley.
Thank you so much for this and thank you for spending time on the detail. We are far from our beloved Kgalagadi.
So am I, I now live in the UK...sadly. But I carry the Kalahari in my veins so all good.😁
I live in Muizenberg and wasn't aware of this place. Thank you for the amazing video. I'll definitly be going there very soon.
That's what it's all about. Thanks for watching and enjoy your visit there. Wish I could join you.
Hi Shaun, was there any further views/assessment of this bird? Just encountered a very similar individual in Milton Keynes this week, which I think is actually a Willow Warbler mimicking Chiffchaff vocals, though I do wonder if it has got something a little more Iberian about it.
Goodness this was 7 years ago.... I can't even remember yesterday hahaha
@@shaunferguson8782 No worries haha, it's just one of the closest sound alikes I've found so far.
Nice video. Sorry that you did not find eagles at Findhorn.
Great filming. I'm going to Mallorca next winter. Thanks.
Enjoy it's a hell of a place even besides the birds.
Please slow down
Great capture !
Exactly where I saw the RBS 4 years ago. That mic seems very efficient.
Cheers mate. I had to do something re audio cos my voice on older videos kept dropping in and out this one seems a much more streamlined setup. No cables and you don't look like an idiot with a huge mic onto of your camera.
Love that shrike! I'm a little jealous here 🤣
Blimmin things ever show well at Thursley, you always need the Hubble telescope there to see em well.
Well done Shaun, great video, always look forward to it. Need to collect my Son from Working end of this week , quite tempted to do a few hours at Thursley. By the way the mic sounded really good. Thanks for sharing. ❤🐦
Wow those POV shots are so stable. What camera and/or gimble did you use? 😮
My kit is DJI action 4 + DJI Mic2 for B-roll and then the rest are on my old DLSR Canon D5 mark 4
Took me back a bit. Lovely to see the common recovering so well. Dartfords are like hens teeth down here but every combe on the moor is full of Willow Warbler at the moment. We did a survey on top Saturday and they were the second most common species with only Mipits in greater numbers. Loving that mic. There was just a tiny bit of wind noise here and there but actually it was perfect, just enough to create a bit of atmosphere without being intrusive at all. Tonally it was very nice.
Yeah I thought the mic was brill too. I also never had any 'white noise' in the back ground which you can hear on the Rode when i switch from the DJI to Rode at the Willow Warb recording near the end of the video. Only thing now is you can hear how unfit I am when going up hill with my heavy breathing. Lol
Well I wasn't going to say anything mate but now you mention it... 😂
😂@@Raysnature
Would be interesting to hear you stand in some wind, record the sound on the iPhone, then plug on the Rode, then the DJI 2 all in one shot to really notice the difference
Only problem is I'm not an iPhone user but can maybe test that on my Android and let you know.
@@shaunferguson8782 ah ok. And can you just buy the transmitter? Seems silly to have to need a receiver as well.
@stormcabbirds 100% £89 for one transmitter they sell them separately now.
@@shaunferguson8782 just bought it. Good timing as I broke my Rode yesterday 😂😂😂
Brilliant reed warbler shots/footage. I find them so elusive!
So the story behind those is... I was down on all fours pulling Himalayan Balsam when this started singing close to me. I just did a slow up periscope and enjoyed the show. hahaha Great new video btw busy watching it now. 👍
@@shaunferguson8782 amazing! I love those unexpected moments 💜
There were hobbies back in the 80’s/90’s a great place to bird back then
There are Hobbys there now I just didn't connect that day unfortunately.
There were hobbies back in the 80’s/90’s a great place to bird back then
There have been hobbies every year recently as well. at least 4 this year and 8 the year before (2023). I've posted pictures of them.
That's a very beautiful location and time of day. You keep the camera so still and the sound is so clear (I'm always battling with wind or traffic noise!). Great video
Thank you it's my new DJI Action cam it's brilliant. Sound will is from my Rode Videommicro with wind shield. Sound will get even better soon as I'll be getting the new DJI mic 2 a bluetooth lapel mic. Thanks for watching.
Great video thanks for sharing. I'm planning to visit Melbourne next January. I was also able to visit Standfontein when I lived in CapeTown about 20 years ago!
Very nice....enjoy your trip.
Great video with so good bird information
Very informative and well edited! We love the Kgalagadi and visited it almost yearly the last 15-20 years
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice capture. Thanks for sharing and happy weekend.
What is you sound set up here? Straight to camera/phone? Wind muffler? Lapel mic?
At the time of making that nothing, straight in as I was waiting for an cable to arrive. But now I've got a Smallrig protective case that's got a hot shoe for mounting my Rode VideoMicro Mic plus a TRS to usb C cable. Mic has dead cat on it so hopefully going forward now sound will be much better...wind noise wise.
@@shaunferguson8782 cheers. I’m probably going to go for the mini rode that plugs straight into the iphone
@stormcabbirds I'll eventually get wireless mics for my Action 4 too BUT want new camera gear first.
Very nice. Some sort of map would've been good but still very useful.

Great footage of this rarity !
Fantastic, I hope it doesn't go unappreciated.
Great video mate.
Cheers Dave.
Lovely shots. Still waiting to get a chance of filming either Subalpine Warbler here in the Netherlands
Cheers mate appreciate that.
Never been. Interesting looking place
You can only walk the public foot path around the outside at the moment. We had special access inside to see the bird.
'Calm down Lee' :-D
Is that Ali G territory..... East or West Side
Great touch. I like the build up and the journey. Very imaginative 😊
Slowest train journey ever hahaha 😬
Great video ! Clear sight of woodchat S and inside beddington farm land 🎉🎉 thank you Shaun
Hi, do you know of a bird with a thick red Stripe on the underside of its wings going width ways not length ways., quite a big bird that I saw at krugar next to crocodile river. I've been trying to I. D. it for several years, any idea? Kind regards Jilly
What was the general colour of the bird. What was the bill shape? Do you think it was a raptor or something else?
@@shaunferguson8782 It was by no means a small bird and I believe it was a brown colour, I actually saw it twice but it flew over my head into a large bushy tree, so I didn't get a good look at it as it was only for a few seconds but the red stripe really stood out. Im quite sure it wasn't a raptor. I joined my brother in his time share several years but only saw it on my last visit. I've searched the Internet and books but wasnt able to find it sadly, lots with red stripes but none on underside of wings. Someone had seen it in a book *birds of southern Africa" but couldn't remember its name, Thank you for the reply. Kind regards ... Jilly
Brilliant. Very jealous. Wouldn’t know where to start down there. Africa is definitely the wildlife hotspot of the world
It's not as scary as you think it is, defo do it if you can.
@@shaunferguson8782 I’ve just messaged my doctor about vaccines I’ll need for Gambia. I want to do that next.
@@stormcabbirds Blimey you are getting around great stuff looking forward to the video. BTW I would say The Gambia is wilder than SA so if you can do that SA will be a breeze.
@@shaunferguson8782 funny thing is, Gambia is an all inclusive destination for Tui, so they must deem it safe enough for tourists.
Really nice video footage 👍 I just wondered what zoom camera are you using? it looks good.
It's a very old and knackered Canon SX60 almost time for it to be retired.
4 years and still waiting to see this. Over the years I’ve seen a few piles of feathers in our garden and wondered what happened. When I became a birder, and learned what that was 😂
Beautiful, love a raptor and such a elusive one, great capture. 👍 🦅🐥
I saw the hooded merganser it was a beautiful bird wasnt it!
A pair nest in a building at springfield hospital Tooting, it was pointed out to me and although i would hear them most evenings i never seen one!
