Earl's Repair & Restore
США
Добавлен 30 дек 2019
Hi There. On Earl's Repair & Restore I want to fix and repair old things as well as customizing and repurposing them as my mind spits out new ideas that it came up with on its own (scary) or ideas brought about by something I see throughout my day. If you desire to join us as we try to document the process, you have my warmest welcome! Earl

Fantastic, Earl!
Superb, Earl!
Awesome, Earl!
They actually did a 6x6 real tonka
Did they do a Tonka dumptruck or was it the cement mixure? I also wanted the axles to be articulating as well.
@@RepairRestore think both
I run the 50's in my car and they are great. You have made a good choice. I did notice that you have wires under carriage that are not "sleeved" or covered. Hope you don't encounter problems.
Hi Robert. We are 3 years on and haven't had any issues as of yet. I just ran the wires the way they were run from the factory, although sleeving them would look cleaner and protect them better. Earl
NOT BAD FOR WHAT IM GONNA DO WITH IT. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO
👍
Great job. I like how you used semi-tubular rivets to hold the front bumper on. Most of the other videos show pop rivets being used for the front bumper. Could you tell me what size the rivets were that you used to affix the bumper? Thank you!
I know that they are 1/8" diameter, but I don't remember the length.
Not much in there to burn besides the harmonic damper and any remaining fluid.
Does the AC become colder?
I do not have AC in the truck.
Plz where to buy it? Plz share the product link
There should be a link in the description, but it is for a different one. Unfortunately this exact bypass is not available anymore.
Drove my 87 ram 45 minutes to a friends house, picked him up, drove 20 minutes into town to grab some lunch. Come back out. Truck fires up, put it in drive. Truck dies. Won’t start. Spent 20 minutes trouble shooting the aftermarket efi, the distributor. Couldn’t figure it out. Put everything back together, about to call a tow, friend decides to crank it one more time. Coil wire arcing to the firewall. Grabbed the electrical tape from the glove box, wrapped it up, been driving it like that for a year 😂
is there a possibility to measure paint thickness on aluminium or steel ? For example to use to measure paint thickness on cars?
There is a tool for that, but it is not this one.
I have the Benetech GM130 & I'm satisfied. 🤔😊
What's the name of the fastener you use at 10:11? Great video
My it yes
Hello, blogger, what is the size of this tool? It only has the size of the rivet on it but not the size of the tool. I'm confused. Is it what I want?

I did exactly what you did, went from 40s to 50 series. The drone was still there. Had two J pipes welded, drone gone and still sounds great.
Surprised more people don't know about j pipes.
Where did you get the bypass valve?
I found one on Amazon. But I’m also in Canada.
What is the part number thanks
It is a flowmaster 50 series. There are different part numbers for different inlet /outlet diameters and inlet/outlet configurations.
Great job with the exception of putting the tires on backwards…
What is your feeeback after one year?
I still love it. Works perfect, no leaks. I am not sure if the chrome one is available anymore. I think a brass one is though.
@@RepairRestore I look it up , I only found the brass one, thank you for responding.
Tonka Trucks were patterned after Fords.
I know, but I have a 64 Chevy and the 1965 Tonka roof looks just like a 64-66 C-10 roof. It was never going to match perfect, but I tried to get it as close as practical for me.
its not .006", or 6 thousandths off. It was a difference of .0016". The 6 at the end is ten thousandths and requires an outside micrometer with a veneer scale to measure. And I am betting that the dial "very near" calipers is the less accurate of the two. Wish that you would have used a true outside micrometer for the comparison.
How to know witch is my car size … my car is ram 1500 2022 rebel any info ?
Just put the rest of the tail pipe on and it will quiet down a bunch. 50's sound great all the same though.
I need one of these for my 1/16 scale ertl farm toy restorations, sadly this tool looks a bit too big for those. I need to get in tiny harder to reach areas
very nice. great work.
I wish I could buy that
You would have to check with Matt, because he is the new owner of it! Matt used it as a prop in a Q&A that he did with Donut Media.
Oh man...this is what mines doing. Brand new rebuild and brand new cable and seals. Still leaking. Problem is ...I can't reach it. Have to take the dang thing out. It's leaking like crazy
I wouldn't have "restored" it in the usual way either. It's too nice as-is. Nice job. 👍
Only the old tonka kids are allowed to comment…I wish tonka made these things again.
They sold out to Hasbro back in the day and turned them into cheap plastic junk! I believe at one time Tonka hired like 4000 people to build these toys in the 50 and 60's
If you just buy tail pipes it gets alot quieter. Hell, strait pipes all the way out back are quieter than 40s dumped behind the axle.
When you drilled out the rivets on the control cap for the clam shell then took it apart why didn't you powder coat it before you put new rivets in
By using this valve your A/C will be cooler and work more efficiently also. No heat/hot water going into the heater core which is right next to the A/C evaporator inside the HVAC plenum box.
Will this work for testing cylinder head port thickness for porting?
Also, what clear coat did you use? Very smooth finish compared to ones I have tried.
Oh man, I did this job 3 TIMES. First one was to replace the original since I was having a sticky throttle pedal even after replacing the accelerator cable and cleaning the TBI unit on the S10. Well, that ATP brand lasted a week and the pedal started sticking again until I shot more lubricant down it. Got fed up and found a NOS GM Genuine cable for it and installed it with a new seal. I looked at the old seal and sure enough, just like you said, it was pinched, causing a noticeable loss of fluid and it burning on the exhaust pipe. Installed the NOS cable with the new seal and the pedal felt much smoother on takeoffs, but when I went to park and work underneath again, I noticed fluid dripping onto the exhaust AGAIN. So I took off the cable once more and sure enough again, the seal was pinched and squished in. Both times, I sat the seal onto the cable housing instead of into the hole in the transmission, and I think that's why it was getting pinched, I was letting the bolt push the housing into the tranny, and it was doing so at an odd angle. When I did it again today, I lubed it real good with Dexron, sat it all the way into the transmission, THEN I wiggled the housing into the hole. It went much smoother and straight in. The bolt didn't have to be used to push it down. So much rage just for a slight error.
I totally understand the feeling! My truck has a different leak, but that cable is still leak free! Glad you got it taken care of. ~Earl West Michigan
5:55 that sounds so much better! Mean and growly without being obnoxious.
I think so too! Smoking the tires through first and second gear sounds so good!
Are there minimum and maximum thicknesses that it will measure ? also i heard surface ruffness can facter in a bit ... tks fer the vid
I have heard the same thing. I think that it is rated up to 6" and I am not sure on the bottom end of the scale.
I still have this one, in almost mint original state, standing here in my home. Used to play with it as a toddler, while sitting on the yellow body of it, digging dried beans in the living room. Only missing one Tonka sticker on the side and having a few paint scratches on the arm. Mine has black plastic grips by the way.
That is awesome that you still have it. Great memories!
Always liked the smell of WD-40 on my trucks lol
It is a smell that is hard to beat! Certain scents bring back memories, WD-40 is one of them.
I'm about to make the same change. I screwed up and bought Jegs version of 40 series Flowmasters and they are too loud and rappy is a great way to put it. Kind of has a sharp crack or snap when I whack the throttle or at medium hard acceleration. I want that gone. The 40s were great on my race car but not this built 401 FE in my 64 Galaxie fastback street car. Thanks for making this video, it gives me the info I need. Nice truck!
Thanks! I think that you will be very pleased. It is quiet enough now that my wife is ok with it and you can actually think while driving.
wow and this also used as an symbol of vehicle type in vigilante 8 arcade mobile edition
What no filler? Did I miss it?Was awfully pitted
Thanks for posting this hard to see it laying under the car
I'm glad it helped. It was nice to have a spare tranny in the barn to look at while figuring out my own leak.
where to find the valve
The link is in the video description.

I’m in the same predicament. I have 40’s and the drone at 60mph is awful. Did the 50’s address that?
They definitely helped. The 50s just have a lower tone that doesn't have as much of that ear killing drone. We have highway gears and an automatic with overdrive so our 60 mph rpms are pretty low.
@@RepairRestore Thanks for the reply I have the 700R4 trans and 373 gears in the rear. My wife complains of the drone so this should help.
Perfect! We have 3.42's , so pretty close for comparison.@@dhaynes735
