Lake District Films
Великобритания
Добавлен 29 фев 2008
We are walking the 214 Wainwright summits across England's glorious Lake District - for the second time - and filming them all. We have walks for all abilities, from long days on the hills, to gentle bimbles - big mountains to small hills and simple lakeside paths. We have films in the sun, the rain and the snow - sometimes on the same day! We hope you enjoy our films, and find them inspiring for your own adventures.

Lake District Walks | Walking the Wainwrights | Green Crag from Seathwaite on the Shortest Day.
Halfway out of the dark... a slightly-belated Christmas special!
On 21 December, the Shortest Day in 2024, Neil returns to the fells, heading out of Seathwaite with a visit to Green Crag, between Eskdale and the Duddon valley in the Southern Fells. In between a dark morning and a dark evening, there's sunshine, rain, wind as well as cows and sheep.
In his original guides, Alfred Wainwright wrote that "south and west from Green Crag the scenery quickly deteriorates. This summit has therefore been taken as the boundary of fellwalking country." At 489 m / 1,604 ft, Green Crag is the highest of a series of rocky tops which stand out from the Birker Fell moorland.

On an unexpectly lovely Sunday evening, Neil heads out from Thackthwaite in the north west of the Engigh Lake District, to visit two low Wainwright hills - Low Fell and Fellbarrow. Along the way, there is a song thrush, endless sheep, a spectacular view south over the whole Buttermere valley and west and north to the Irish Sea and Solway Firth, across the Cumberland plain. To the east is are th...
Lake District Walks | Walking the Wainwrights | High Rigg and Castlerigg Stone Circle
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.9 месяцев назад
End of March 2024, on a bright spring morning, Neil tackles the sixth-smallest Wainwright, High Rigg, beside St John's in the Vale, via Tewet Tarn and Low Rigg, returning via the epic Castlerigg Stone Circle. It's a 6.5 mile circular route, of around 1,250 ft ascent and descent, with spectacular views of Blencathra, Skiddaw, Helvellyn and Bleaberry Fell. On the way, he makes friends with ponies...
Lake District Walks | Walking the Wainwrights | Harter Fell (Eskdale) via Hardknott Forest
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.10 месяцев назад
Mid-February 2024, Neil heads out from beside the River Duddon, through Hardknott Forest (and a red squirrel encounter) and up Harter Fell. It's a steep ascent (Wainwright recommended the route from neighbouring Eskdale), but the views are stunning, particularly in the snow. Route available here: explore.osmaps.com/route/20908699/lake-district-films-harter-fell-route From the top, you can see a...

Lake District Walks | A Circuit of Haweswater - flooded Mardale, Withnail and I film location
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.Год назад
On a gloriously sunny day in mid-November 2023, Neil visits the epic Haweswater Reservoir, to the west of the Lake District. There, he explores the beautiful autumnal scenery and dark past of a vanished community - uprooted by the flooding of their homes in 1935, and finds the location of an iconic scene from Withnail and I (Dir. Bruce Robinson, 1987). The tree he refers to is not, as he guesse...

Great to see a new boggy underfoot way with manky rain to add to the pleasure my old nemisis Green Crag Well the rain hid my tears on this one 😢 looked just as challenging as the eskdale route if not more.thanku for the share😅
Ohh what a stunning area ,the elements definitely make it more tiring well done 👍
Hello Mountain Chum! Thank you for another lovely video. I'm glad to see the fells are still there. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! Hoping to do more walking films this year!
It's great to have you back! Nice route, avoiding the bog of doom often associated with that particular fell. Hopefully, we will see you again soon.
Thank you! Not going to claim it's 100% dry, but still a good walk! Cheers
A lovely surprise and another excellent walk. Thanks for sharing! So pleased to learn that opening gates can, on occasions, be problematic. I have wondered.🤨😊 And those leaping sheeps were a delight and well captured💫
Many thanks - glad you enjoyed it! Some gates are clearly designed as a puzzle...
Welcome back.
Thank you!
Loved it, happy new year

@LakeDistrictFilms It always makes me smile when you do the two pronunciations 😃

Your back!
Yes! Here I am!
No videos from you for a while. Are you OK? Bosh
Yes, sorry it's been a while, but a new film is up now!
Ive just retired and want to start fell walking this year ? But a bit scared of getting lost ? But watching your blogs is giving me a bit of confidence ? Many thanks
Hi Colin. That's great to hear, thank you. Obviously, a video is no substitute for a good OS map, compass, etc, but I'm pleased to have helped with your confidence. Let us know how you get on. All the best
I’m climbing this exact route tomorrow mate anti clockwise I stumbled across it accidentally a few year back there’s an amazing waterfall if you go off route and it’s 30ft deep I’m going to document it tomorrow so other people can go there as I’ve literally never seen anyone else there or post a video of it. Can i ask what’s the maps you’re using on 1:24 of this video?
Hope you're okay, Neil. Very best wishes to you and your family for the New Year. Hope to see you back on those lofty paffs (or paths) very soon. Atb.
All good, thanks. New film(s) coming soon! Al the best
The best lakeland videos and i always giggle when you say keep to the paths or paths
Thanks, Colin! Much appreciated. All the best
I absolutely loved watching this video..fingers crossed, I will be able to complete it soon ...can't wait, and thank you ..
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! Hope you have a good walk, when you get there.
Hi We visited the caves around 2021 time, we walked along Rydal Water and Grasmere and then approached the cave on the right hand side. I saw that you approached the cave on the left hand side. Would you mind sharing the route with me please as the last one was rather long winded. Thanks lovely video by the way.
No problem! Head out of Ambleside on the back road that follows the River Rothay, to Pelter Bridge by Rydal and turn left. Follow this footpath west and after a couple of turns, you should come to the caves. Hope that helps!
Beautiful part of the world, 900 square miles all to yourself it seems at times.
Great! I enjoy your videos :)
Thank you! Glad you like them!
Thanks enjoying your walks , only Done 32 so they are most Helpfull. The distance covered would be great addition to .

Hello really enjoyed the video and would love to go. Where can I park? if you have a postcode please thank you.
There are a couple of car parks - this is one: maps.app.goo.gl/PL95GEKyjadoyjvb6?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy
My 4 year old liked watching this with me, and he says he likes your hat. We did Castle Crag with him when he was 3, and he loves to tell people about it.
Hello! That's so good to hear - tell him he has good taste (in hills and hats)! All the best, Neil
Great video thank you I will be doing this walk on 15th December when I’m in the lakes and your video has helped massively so you got urself a sub.Can I ask I will be going to high street also and was looking at the path to bale out if I don’t have time etc is the path off between Mardale lll bel and hartel fell towards the reservoir? Il be using the all trails app so should be ok but just checking.
Thank you so much! Hope you have a good day for it - depending on your speed, it might be a longish walk for limited sunlight, but it's a cracker of a walk. The path south between Mardale lll Bell and Harter Fell is a good escape route, if needed. It doesn't go down meet to the Kentmere Reservoir, but tacks parallel to it up the hillside. There is a right turn off to Whether Fold and the weirs below the reservoir from Smallthwaite Knott, although I think I'd recommend sticking on the main path down to Hallow Bank and then Low Lane back to the start. Hope that helps! Let us know how you get on. All the best, Neil
Where can I watch the full film please
Hello! We’re not releasing it publicly for now, because it has been submitted to several festivals who prefer films not to be available. If you email info [at] onyvafilms [dot] com though we can send you a link to the unlisted film. Hope that helps!

There have been a few closures due to accidents this year, but the Lakes are always worth a visit! Thanks for commenting.
