I cycle out from Exeter to the stunning coastlines, moorlands, towns and villages surrounding the city. Come follow me on my journeys and let's explore together. Thank you for watching, and happy riding.

Cyclist gives way to help the traffic flow
This cycle ride was a nice little loop. about 40 miles long with about 2600 ft of climbing. I started from Exeter and cycled towards Chudleigh and then headed out to Teignmouth via Kingsteignton. I traveled along a very busy road where I decided it was best I pull over to help the traffic flow better, as I had a number of vehicles behind me.
My observations are the subject of this ride. So come along and enjoy another great cycling adventure.

Road Cycling Tyres on Slippery Roads: what could possibly go wrong
Просмотров 45614 дней назад
This was one of those rides that really tested me. When I left home the weather was great, but as I rode towards Dartmoor national park, things got interesting very quickly. I had to abandon my original route as the road ahead became impossible for me to continue sadly. My observations are the subject of this ride. So come along and enjoy another great cycling adventure. I use the creo as my main winter bike like you mate, do two 50 mile rides a week. Haven't had one chain drop since I put the wolf tooth chain ring on. So happy with that purchase, all thanks to your channel mate. Cheers
Great ride mate 👍I love winter riding as you no .i did try indoor a few years ago but it’s not for me watching a screen sweeting like mad putting a fan on seems pointless to me.just layer up get out and enjoy the countryside an see the seasons the snowdrops and all the good stuff you mite see my happy place 😁🫶🏻stay save mate great videos 🚴👍
Great video! watched it after getting back from my own ride 😀going to steal this route as not only does it pass my house it also passes my parents house 😄
I ride all year round outside .Sold the Turbo trainer as I never used it .
I absolutely love watching your rides, and I love your channel it’s the best. 😃
Good to see you out and lovely seeing the sea. I was out today with a group of 8, very grey and cold but no rain 😂 . We saw quite a few other cyclists out, so not all on indoor trainers.
Newer model Creo 2 now has a wider range 11-50t 12 speed system, have you ever hit a hill where you thought one extra low gear would of been handy? I certainly have hit a few 20%+ Peak District hills where my Turbo Vado sl could of done with it.
Excellent video..im going to buy but still in argue either to buy specialized or trek..its 150% battery include with external bat or not
Dry roads yahoo.
Love this!
Thanks for watching Katherine 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
wow... what a great tour 👌👍
Hey buddy I hope you’re well, I absolutely love that stretch of road. Thank you for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Hi, it looks like your lanes are as mucky as our in Bucks! Very sketchy downhill at 20mph +
Hey Martin, some lanes are a complete nightmare to ride this time of year, and the bike gets absolutely filthy. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Which do you prefer, these or the DRY-TECH's ?
Hey, I would highly recommend the Bluemels over the Specialized dry tech fenders. Thank you for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Great ride Dave flying along mate you must have been in turbo you went of like a rocket lol but not much battery used i bet ? Up there on speed FairPlay 🚴💨💨👍😁👏🏻👏🏻
Hey Jonathan, to help me fly up the hills and to keep the time down, I always select turbo when I film a POV segment 😃. As I’m riding faster than the 15.5 mph restriction and the motor is not giving me any assistance I tend to not use much of the battery. Take care buddy and thank you for watching. 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Picking mine up this week. A really good film fella.
Hey Paul, the specialized outfront mount is a great option, and it looks really neat on the bars. Good luck and thank you for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Timestamp 11:20 Genius Idea, Why Did I Not Think Of This...
Hey KO, the pass pixie is a great deterrent for bad/ impatient drivers. The trouble is some drivers take an absolute age to overtake you, when they see the sign you are filming. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Another lovely ride, how are the TPU tubes holding up
Hi Paul, the Ridenow TPU tube on the whole they are brilliant, lightweight and very small and easy to pack. I did however have one that keeps randomly deflating and I cannot find out why and how. I wouldn’t be without them now though. Take care 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
good decision, that looked scektchy at 4 mins, you crazy man 🙂
Hey Paul, I must admit that it was getting really bad the further I went. I should have turned around a lot sooner than I did, but I still had fun. 😁 take care and thanks for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Great ride mate loving the new light .i think my wife will go crazy if i get another light lol I have so many for all my bikes 😆but I always say better to be seen lol I will never ride without lights take care mate 🚴👍
Hey Jonathan, It still amazes me that I see so many road cyclists without lights. Your like me, I also have a lot of lights, more than I actually need, but the RAVEMEN has that lovely wrap around feature.🤣 take care and thank you for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Absolutely fantastic video, thank you for sharing
I'm surprised you can turn your handlebars with all that gear on the front LOL. Nice light. Very similar to the standard light on the Orbea Gain.
Hey buddy I hope you’re well, I’ve got quite a bit of scaffolding on the bars nowadays 😂 the RAVEMEN is a lovely wrap around safety light. Take care and thanks for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Nice one. I have just upgraded my lights, the front one is a 3,300 Lumen Super Bright light with similar settings to yours. What a difference it makes compared to my old ones!
Hey Rick, your lights sound amazing. Cycle lights nowadays are absolutely brilliant, brighter and the battery last for hours. It still amazes me how many cyclists I see riding around with no lights, madness. Take care and thank you for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
I use the ravemen fr300 300 but cannot remember how to use the auto function. Good light. Used today on a cold ride . Love your videos
Hey Nikoli, To activate the auto off mode, with the light OFF, press and hold the button in for 3 seconds till the light blinks quickly, I hope that helps. Take care and thank you for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Yes my son and I got the Raveman for Christmas and we both love it! 😊 😅
Hey Linda, the RAVEMEN light is a great addition for any cyclist. The fact that it is very visible from the front and the side makes it a great safety light. You and your son had a great Christmas present, I’m new to the party. 🤣 Take care and thank you for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Get some compensation for that car hurting your hand & treat yourself to the Specialized turbo Creo 2 mate 😊
Hey Leon, I still haven’t heard anything from the insurance company regarding the hit and run. I doubt very much I will get an amount of compensation for me to buy a new Creo, maybe a new cycling jersey. I will obviously keep everyone updated as and when I hear anything. Take care and thanks for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
I did look at the Raveman but did not like the stack on the bike as I don't like many items on the bars. I use a Cateye loop light around the frame covering the front S logo which works well in flashing mode the attention grab as a see me light. I do lot of night riding and use a head torch to see where I am going. Bristol road are same as Exeter, easier to get about on bike, just got a few more hills here.....big hills !!!
Hey Darren, I know this light is not for everyone, but personally I really do like the RAVEMEN light and the fact it sits nicely underneath my wahoo. It is both very visible from the front and also the side for extra safety. I have just had a look at your cateye loop light and it is indeed a very nice little bright light. The amount of cyclists I see out riding on the roads without any lights always alarms me. Take care and thank you for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
I love my Raveman so cars can see you from a side angle as opposed to just head on 👌😉 great video again m8 thanks 👍
Hey Lawrence, I hope you’re well buddy. I’m glad I noticed your RAVEMEN on that ride, because it is a great addition for safety out on the roads. Take care and thanks again for watching. 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Inspirational music for a inspiration ride. I live in the Midwest and have been stuck in the house with cold temps not getting above hardly 10-27 degrees, heavy icy roads and trails snow and ice covered. And crazy as it sounds I have friends who went to Gulf Shores with there bikes and camper and are making snowmen; along with family who live in Charleston, South Carolina who had 2.5” inch of sleet. The dad is pulling his teenage son with his Mtn bike as his son rides a water board-crazy US winter. So hopefully it will turn nice in the next few days to get out-today went from 35 in the morn and now it’s 15 degrees as the day goes 🫤
Hey Dave, you are definitely experiencing some very challenging weather, by the sounds of it. You do live in a beautiful part of the world so that makes it even worse for you, when you’re stuck indoors waiting patiently for a nice cycle ride. I wish you luck, take care and thanks for watching. 🥶🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
I suffer from chilbains so purchased these from Sigma Sports a few weeks ago ...and ditto i can verify they do infact make a difference.... although in my case i need a slightly bigger shoes for winter riding to accomodate a merino sock and provide enough space in the toe box for circulation.... still tempted by the specific winter cycle shoes ....although like most cyclists we're like Magpies and always on the lookout for that next upgrade. Nice channel btw... not an electric cyclist yet ...but pretty sure my next bike will be. Be well. Harvey
Hey Harvinder, adding these lake winter insoles has really made a difference. I personally can’t justify buying a winter cycling boot for the short period I would need them. I do however understand those cyclists who do purchase them, because we all suffer differently with frozen feet. I live in a very hilly area it averages 1000ft per 10 miles traveled, so an e-bike is perfect for me, because it means I can ride more miles in a faster time. I do however prefer to ride a lighter conventional road bike on flatter terrain. Take care and thank you for watching. 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Pot holes and ice. What a combination to keep you on 2 wheels. How did you stay warm?
Hey Nikoli, winter riding can get very interesting quickly😂 as for riding in cold temperatures im always prepared with the gear. Take care and thanks for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
I thought I was mad riding any condition mate lol it looks amazing did you have your gravel Tyres on ??we had no snow gutted mate 👊🏻🤦🏻♂️🚴🥶😂
Hey Jonathan, It can be a little sketchy riding through winter, but it’s great fun, I was riding with the Specialized Roubaix Pro Road Tyre 😂 take care and thanks again for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Indoors on my trainer cycling to this infront of a 10kw wood burner . Thanks .love the vlogs
Have fun buddy, in front of the log burner, now that sounds great. Take care enjoy the pov ride and don’t forget to drink. Thanks for watching ⚡️🙏🏻🚴🏻♂️
How can I get the gpx files for komoot of your rides. Not a strava subscriber
@ I have just opened a new Komoot account, and I will make gpx available for future rides. ⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Great that's awesome. Am looking to do a few rides down your way later in the year. Exhausting some of these north devon hills.
That looks a fantastic route. I have added it to myGarmin list. Didn't know you can ride from Holden to Starcross on one road 👍👍
Hey Karl, Mamhead hill is a great descent down to Starcross. The single track trails and gravel roads at the top in the forest are absolutely beautiful to ride so you must go and explore when the weather gets better. Take care and thanks for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Mamhead descent is a bum clencher in those conditions, what tyres are you running?
Hey Jerry, Mamhead is a great descent normally, In fact it’s my old training hill. I know every inch of it because I would climb and descend that hill up to 10 times a session in preparation for cycling events. I must admit I was on high alert that day as I was using the Specialized Roubaix Pro tyres, but I still had fun. Take care and thanks for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Lovely video, great to see sunshine and blue skies. Snow and frost are lovely to see but sketchy riding - just don't hit the brakes hard! I bet you had to give the bike a good wash to get all the salt off it.
Hey Martin, fortunately my Creo is treated to a wash after every ride I do year round, to help keep components etc in tip top condition. I was definitely not expecting any snow on this ride, and I should have definitely turned around a lot earlier, but I had fun. Take care and Thanks for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Now see if I was with you it would have rained and washed it all away m8 😂😂😂👌
Hey Lawrence I hope you’re well buddy. I have no doubt it would have snowed if you were there, and we would probably have needed the service of Dartmoor rescue 🤣 Take care and thanks again for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Rather you than me, I would have turned back sooner. Few years back came off on black ice, that hurt! Last year (Nov 28th) had to abandon plans roads frosted over, even off-road routes and forest around Sherwood Pines (Notts), lots of ice.
Hey Steve, I wasn’t expecting any snow on this ride and I was very lucky not to come off, as things did get very interesting quickly. I did however have fun but I will definitely turn around earlier and keep to lower ground, which can be difficult in hilly Devon. Take care and thanks for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Hard core ride Dave that looked dodgy lol 🤦🏻♂️😂😂😂😂
Hey Jonathan I hope you’re well buddy. To be honest I wasn’t expecting any snow on that ride, and I was lucky to not come off. I did however have a great time 😂 take care and thanks again for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
You always visit some pretty places bud, but it looked even more magical in the snow. Another great video and thanks as always for sharing 👍
Hey Dave, I must admit it was magical cycling those empty roads. Things did get interesting at times, but thankfully I didn’t go down. Take care and thanks again for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Looks like you got a touch of our Chicago weather! Be careful.
Hey Harry, it was sketchy as hell riding those slippery roads, but I had fun. Chicago you are very lucky to cycle in such a beautiful city. Take Care and thanks for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
@ it’s 12 degrees F today. No riding for me.
@ that’s cold weather buddy, stay safe 🙏🏻🚴🏻♂️
👍👍👍
Thanks for watching Scotty 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Wow excellent vlog. Sketchy as ..... but beautiful. Must have been a cold ride. How did those tyres keep you up? I was on pathfinders and slipping .
Hey Nikoli, I hope you’re well buddy. I was riding with the Specialized Roubaix Pro tyres, and to be honest they did a great job but I would rather have been on my pathfinder’s. I wasn’t expecting any snowy and icy roads, I really should have turned around sooner but I had fun. 😂 Take care and thanks for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
I am local , but I am amazed at how you get around and your knowledge of the area. Really enjoy your videos.
Hey Terry, We are blessed to live in such a fantastic area, and the cycling routes are endless. I love exploring Exeter and the surrounding areas on my bike and hope it encourages and motivates others to get out and ride. I do have some great rides planned for this year, so I’m looking forward to those adventures. Take care and thanks for watching. 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Stunning scenery maybe a crazy time to be out on two wheels. Kudos to you, Harvey, are you out on road tyres. The low camera angle looks good.
Hey Darren, I wasn’t expecting any snow on this ride and I really should have turned around a lot sooner. As I only had the Specialized Roubaix Pro tyres fitted. Thank you for your feedback on camera angles, I have been experimenting 😂 take care 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
I have ridden in those conditions on Mtb, but not on the road bike. Bet you were just testing the Lakes Winter soles - lol
Hey Darren, I wasn’t expecting any snow on that route, but the roads were hazardous in places, I must admit. I was only using the Specialized Roubaix Pro road tyres 😂 The lake winter insoles must be working because I haven’t had cold feet since fitting them . Take care and thanks for watching ⚡️🚴🏻♂️🙏🏻
looks great. [and thank you for the advice re insoles].
Hey buddy, I was tipped to try the insoles from a subscriber and I have really noticed a difference. It’s great that we can all share ideas and learn together on this channel. Take care and thanks for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
Beautiful scenery but you are a braver man than me 😄
Hey Rick, I must admit I wasn’t expecting snow and icy roads on that ride. Thing’s got pretty sketchy in places but it all added to the fun 😂 take care and thanks for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
looked a bit slippy what tyres were you riding?
Hey Tom, the roads were slippery in places, and I must admit it did get interesting at times. I was riding with the Specialized Roubaix Pro tyres, and to be honest they done a great job. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻⚡️🚴🏻♂️
@@electricbikerider This is Continental top contact winter territory, perfect for wet winter roads, good for packed snow. They are 37-622 and 42-622 for touring and gravel bikes.
Thank you so much for taking us "along" on your adventurous ride. It looked brilliant, glad your kit kept you warm 🙂
Hey Sarah, I really enjoyed that ride and the snow and icy roads got very interesting at times. But I must admit that it just looked so beautiful in places where there was snow. I really appreciate you watching 🙏🏻 take care ⚡️🚴🏻♂️
This is awesome
