The Best eBikes Coming In 2023! Plus A Very Secret Mystery eBike Announced From A Brand YOU KNOW!
Yamaha is the best and always has been. They started all of this and are still at the top. "But theres no app" i hear you say, who needs one? Nobody. Just ride. Yamaha is the best.
Very interested in the Vado SL. Also tempted by the Vado SL 2 (although it is way more money, probably due to the carbon frame). I currently have a trek e-bike. Love the bosch motor, but not so thrilled with the weight of the bike...
Do all these motors have different mounts?
They all seem to ignore the issue of reliability…. The lack of cheap moisture detection in e-bike motors is unacceptable….. oil filled is a viable alternative… but only if user oil changes are easy…
Aren't you missing the ZF motor? 2.5-kilogram drive unit with powerful 90 Newton meters of torque, 48-volt system with e-motor, batteries, control units, app and cloud connection
In terms of noise and pleasure to ride, Shimano is much better then Bosch. Ride is smoother, and more controlable. With the Bosch, you are never sure the way it is going to react with a change of terrain...
My bosch gen 4 has done 6258 miles, preventative maintenance is key, every 6 months i take protective washers off of the crank bearings, add new bosch grease then carry on,its the main place crap gets in,it had its first major service last month, and the guy that did it was amazedhow good it was,and yes,i live in wales and ride every other day in all conditions.my first cassette lasted 1800 miles,if you invest in a chain checker for £8 it will save you hundreds in the long run,if you ride in bad conditions, clean and lube your chain after every ride and you cant go far wrong,BUT id have an e mtb with a pinion gearbox in a heartbeat!
Most of the ebikes I see around here are Giant. They are the biggest bike manufacturer in the world aren't they? Is their motor based on Yamaha?
Compatibility with Garmin Edge unit or at least with Garmin Connect cloud? I see the possibility to pair with Apple account but not Connect account
How is yamaha?
Hopefully my Levo holds up for a few more years allowing the belt drive motors to become more main stream. As of this moment that's the path I'm hoping to go down with my next bike.
if we can have a pinion-based bike for around 21Kg - count me in!
So much beef and so little fat. Ima need some beers with the boys to chew over this content
Have you looked at the Sachs RS motor, the Polino EP3+ and the Askoll Ultra C90A? All three deliver similar power, range and torque of the DJI but with not an ounce of the marketing and (paid) promotion of the DJI.
The gearbox introduces inefficiencies, which is why normal mtbs never got them, but I am interested to know if it matters that much on an e bike? I assume it will be like motor bikes, the motor will just get more powerful.
Why are you ignoring Yamaha?
HI! Nice videos... The outdated Sachs /BMZ RS can sustain 800w and hast 112 Nm and 48V design... Motor wise it still pretty up there.. while not widespread. (NOX Cycles!) Avinox is really a great package
You haven’t heard dji have multiple contracts with other bike brands to supply them motors then.
Bafang m560 motor light powerful is better than all these motors imo
You obviously has not driven with the Pinion MGU. It's on all levels the game changer.
What's with all the unrelated stock footage?
Where is BAFANG?
I have a bafang motor and it's amazing for cross country and quiet. No hassles at all. Also very reasonable and cheap for the power.
Two things. Brose is falling behind. And how had is it to charge belt the belt on a pinon? 😊
With eMTB, how much is too much power? Will there be a point where the motors are too powerful for the trails and riders? Where's the limit? Will the lines between pedal assist and throttle are thinner and more blurred?
This is an excellent point. I personally sit in the "less-is-more camp" in terms of motor power, but I appreciate I am in the minority. However, your right that there must come a point when motor power becomes excessive for the masses. When e-bikes first came out, the general opinion was "e-bikes are cheating" will it come back to that again, or will it get to the stage the trail managers/owners start to limit the power of e-bikes that are allowed to ride there? Thanks a lot for commenting and watching.
@@ebikecentre Definitely with you about "Less is more" I have a turbo levo and spend most the time in ECO. Turbo is kind of insane and I don't really use it unless I'm exhausted and just want to get back to the trail head with as little effort as possible.
What about Yamaha?
What about Brose, Dyname, Polini, Fazua, SRAM, TQ, Askoll?
Great question. We do actually have a video solely on Yamaha motors coming out very soon. In answer to your question: In order to keep the video down to a reasonable time, I have only focused on two established brands (who represent a huge share of the UK e-bike market) and I have chosen the Pinion & DJI because they compete with the established brands in very different ways. Thanks for watching and for commenting.
Did not mention the fact the pinion has better unsprung mass and a better center of gravity which are huge advantages. How the hell did you not mention such obvious things?
I ordered my first e-bike, an Orbea Rise SL, from a local USA dealer after being a major holdout for the perfect e-bike. IMO, I wish the PINION drive system was more open as a bolt-on option since most experienced riders transitioning into the e-bike ultimately want more reliability matched with less tinkering. I'm just saying.
Thanks a lot for your comment. Having spent a lot of time with the Rise SL, I think you have made a great choice. By "bolt-on" do you mean can be bolted on to an existing motor system?
@@ebikecentre, that is correct. This way, there could be more options.
No mention of bafang?

I have both the Pinion (on my Simplon bike) and the Amflow with the DJI Avinox. Rode them both at the Frankfurt ebike show and had to have them both. 😊 Both are amazing but for me Pinion takes the cake all day. I feel like the extra power on the DJI is going to kill my cassette quickly (I can tell its not going to last). I end up taking the Simplon on most rides because I can just bring it back and give it a quick wash down with my Peatys soap and brush and I'm done. Thats worth more to me now then the extra power of the DJI. Pinion is on its first generation so take that with a pinch of salt. It will only get better as it grows going forward. For me its the true 'Gamechanger'. Advantages for me of the Pinion Pure silence (downhill). It makes me feel more engaged as I can listen much better. No chain slap, no worry about hitting rocks etc. I can take more risky lines, which I don't do with the Amflow. Cleaning is very quick (no need to lube or clean casette etc). Minimal Maintenance costs. Oil change in 10k thats it. Disadvantages: A bit more noisy (uphill only, in gear 1-6). But I have preselect to automatically start me in gear 6 on a flat surface so I miss the noisy gears anyway. Drag (the belt or motor have a bit more drag then the Amflow). Its not a dealbreaker but noticable at higher speeds (over 15.5mph).
The true "gamechanger"! Well said!
@@kr8490 are you that son of my mother's friend? 😂
I couldn't agree with you more. Thanks very much for taking the time to share your experience in such detail. You must be one of a handful of people who are lucky enough to have both a Pinion MGU & Avinox. Thanks for watching.
BRP is backing Pinion? Excellent news, especially for us here in Canada. I would LOVE to see a Pinion motor gearbox bike here.
Yes, they bought an 80% stake of Pinion in 2022. They obviously got wind of the new motor coming out and liked what they saw! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Been out riding in the British slop and can confirm the Dji motor delivers the power in a real containable manner
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience of the Amflow/Avinox. Much appreciated.
Why Bafang isnt part of these roundups?
Right!?!
@@ProjectHellfire1 who's using a Bafang motor? *Brands, models?

Recently acquired my Amflow PL Carbon with the Dji Avinox system. Omg this bike is seriously on another level. I took it the other day on my favourite routes and I was blown away by how well this thing climbs. There's a certain part of the trail that has a fantastic downhill descent that I always hit but with this bike I could climb back up the same trail and do it all again., this has been impossible on ever other emtb I've had. I did it 5 times, grinning every time. It opens up parts of the trail that is completely new and allows you to do the impossible . Flipping amazing, absolutely love it. The power is fully controllable in the App and the level of grip outstanding, with the Big Betty and Magic Mary combo. You can barely hear the motor and no noise at all when descending. The bike is practically silent, but when you hit boost Omg it's amazing and unstoppable. Sooo happy I pulled the trigger and treated myself. Can't wait to get out again to explore parts of the trails to date have been impossible 👌👍😀 I really think you need to ride one to pass true judgement. I'm around 90 kilos all kitted up. The frame is taught and I don't feel any more flex than I have on previous quality bikes I've owned. Ps I have swapped out the drive train for the XX T type transmission as I went with the PL Base model. The gear change is barely noticeable and seamless. It's suoer smooth and reliable. Sram pretty much developed this for the emtb world. Who knows is the Pinion will be reliable, it's a lot of tech around the motor and sure to be very expensive to fix if it fails. The power isn't as smooth, a lot of torque is lost through the gear transmission and the steps in power not as linear as a motor and derailleur. Sure its on the right track but I'd take the Avinox over this any day. A derailleur can be a cheap or simple fix that any home bike mechanic can do. A sealed gearbox is a specialist problem.
Agreed best bike of the 5 emtbs I’ve owned
@Theolegit57 I had to drop the motor and battery due to removing the dropper cable for my Axs Reverb and Code Ultimate brake swap. Seriously the easiest motor system to remove and the frame quality is top drawer. The attention to detail everywhere is better than most of the boutique brands. Enjoy it mate, despite the British weather. Stay safe 👍
Agreed, once the warranty runs out on these pinion MGUs, You then have to find a place to repair them. Once you find a place, you’re going to have to cough up some serious dough to get them fixed. You’ve now got two areas within the motor to go wrong. The gears and possible motor issues. These units work great while there’s no issues. When something goes wrong , they’re like modern day cars. Too complicated for most bike repair shops.
Thanks a lot for the really detailed comment. I've only had limited access to the Amflow, so far so it's really great to hear the experiences of an owner. I think you have made a wise move in swapping out the drivetrain, the GX that comes as standard is going to get chewed up in no time. Pinion's previous gearboxes (on non-electric bikes) have an excellent track record for longevity, so one would "presume" the same quality would go into their e-bike motor. Feedback, from people I know who have been riding the Pinion for a while (although, obviously the motor hasn't been out that long) have found it a dream so far. But its safe to say its still early days for both the Pinion & the Avinox in terms of knowing true reliability. Thanks for watching. Enjoy your new bike!
DJI/Avinox is the only one that matters now.
That's weird because for me the only one that matters is the much better pinion system that has way more going for it overall. Enjoy constantly replacing those chains and rear cassettes due to the added power
DJI is the one who is paying best at the moment.... For videos like this . Nobody talks M560 bafang PEAKS 1200W / 130NM and eats DJI : s 30 sec boost alive
@jarkkomannisto6413 what bike brands are using this motor?
Had a three ebikes, all with bosch performance line cx 4gen, very nice system, one of them was very quiet, sounds strange but it was noticeable. The thing is all of them were 25-26 kg with 625 watt battery, generally gave me about 50-80 km ride. So my next one is amflow, honestly jumping to lighter weight bike with stronger battery is positive move. On paper and all reviews amflow looks like a massive change, but I do understand that basically I'm buying "cat in the bag" cause no long term use experience yet. So someone has to make it 😂
Thanks a lot for sharing your experiences. Motor sound can vary massively from one frame design to another, we see (hear) it a lot. Yes, you are certainly not alone in being drawn to the Amflow because of the weight savings. I think what Amflow have been quite clever in doing, is focusing on the Trail-Duro market (i.e. inbetween the trail and enduro segments) as this suits the majority of eMTBers and its enabled them to lower the weight of their bike vs its full enduro competitors, as the forks and frame don't need to be as burly. Their nearest "full-power" competitor is the Orbea Rise LT (also Trail-Duro) which with the 630wh battery weighs pretty much the same as the Amlow, but the EP8 can't compete with the Avinox for power. Thanks for taking the time to comment and watch.
@ebikecentre tobe honest, I'm afraid of shimano motors, too many topics about their durability. But at the same time expecting dji to provide something promising 😂 Let's see, I just want to go longer range and enjoy 🤝
Noise is often related to frame design. I have 2 shimano because I liked the bikes and the price was right. Motor isnt everything. I often winch and plunge, which makes suspension more important than the motor. Horses for courses.
Yes, you're spot on. Not many people are aware that the frames resonate motor noise and the same motor can sound totally different from one bike to another. Agreed, the motor isn't everything, its finding the combination that works best for you. If you don't mind me asking what ebike/ebikes have you gone for? Thanks for watching and commenting.
2022 Devinci eTroy and a 2023 Norco Range VLT A2. Both have ep8s and 720 and 900wh batteries respectively.
Bought a Bosch driven bike in June. It’s insanely noisy. My Brose driven bike is massively quieter and punchier motor.
Agree my brose was soooo much quieter than my bosh
Yes, you are right. Noise, particularly rattle, was one of the Gen 4s biggest weaknesses. The Gen5 has addressed and is now one of the quietest motors out there, second only to the TQ. Thanks a lot for watching and commenting.
Slight misinformation regarding head angle. It's stock 64,5, and can be slackened to 63,5.
What about Urtopia Carbon Pro? Didn’t it meet the requirements? 8:30
Responsive power, lightweight, good range, accurate range prediction, good display, fast charging, theft prevention.
Hi Jason, a very good explanation, I am already looking forward to part 3 😁
Flow App wont complete a software update. LED goes through correct operation to say it's loading then "update failed". In 12 months, have only updated by LBS. Tried various options by Bosch, multiple attempts, reload app, de-register and then re-register, etc. still no update!!
Not used the lock yet. It would be a bad day if I lost my phone then would only get worse if I had to peddle my 25kg eBike home with no assist! The mileage isn't the 'mileage available to your bike' - it's a total of the miles done in each mode. (I think that was just a slip of the tongue though!)😄
Shame the tracking part don't work loads of ppl moaning about it . App show setting it up weeks later so all you get is mobilizer alarm on bike part they need to sort it out
Its the sensors, softwares and engineering. DJI is good with electric motor just like their drones remember how dji drones beats the competition? Amflow is just a model bikes but they are actually selling the motors and battery to big companies, if Santa Cruz released an enduro avinox it will be game changer
The Gazelle Grenoble has a new model since last October. It was already a beautiful bike, but it has now been greatly improved in even more areas. And I am the happy owner of this new Gazelle Grenoble. Thanks for your nice video. And nice to see that you in England also ride our Dutch Gazelle bikes.
Thanks very much for your comment and taking the time to watch our video. We are also huge Gazelle fans and we have some of the latest generation of Grenoble's on order for next year. The Grenoble has been a favourite of our customers for years, so we are excited to get our hands on the new version. We are glad to hear that you are enjoying your new bike. Happy riding! Jason
It's a game changer because it works. DJI makes products that work, have great quality and a great price-performance. Did they conquer the drone market in a year? No. Are they the dominant drone maker of the world with the greatest range of products and technology? Yes. Lets just say the first e-bike power system they introduced HAS braced competitors, made Shimano look lame and put Bosch on its back foot, The review focused on peak power alone suggests the reviewer hasn't actually tested the bike and is just throwing out platitudes to fill time. Get serious Bro. Edit: Here is an actual review o the bike that covers why it is a game changer ruclips.net/video/cLcO41euXQc/видео.htmlsi=bJbJy1d4am0NB3gP
Most people will be de restricting it depending on their location so up hill, downhill and flat terrain are all valid considerations as well.
Completley agree with what you say game changer not sure 🤔 if you want raw power yes absolutely, what if a motor comes out tomorrow with 150 NM is that better what about 180 NM is that better what is to much power I think your right you will have to be very skilled on the technical climbs to handle this I’ve seen my mates lose their bikes and come off on 85 NM, personally it will ride the hype a while and like you said the motor is untested and also the frame what is that like I’ve seen some reports that the rear end seems to be a bit flexy only time will tell I suppose great balanced review though 👍
Was expecting motor upgrades with bosch. Kinda disappointed with the bosch motor this time. Barely any change in power. Also they made it quiter which sucks imo. The turbo jet like sound on gen 4 under intensive pedaling is mad cool :D, It grabs the attention if you are in public even more
