I must have missed all the details about the bearings and magnets and how you put that together and where you got them. Is the idea that the plate is held in place solely by the magnets? Sideways force from carving won't be a problem? I'll watch this again but there are some mysteries.

I somehow managed to find a watchmaker lathe (from an actual watchmaker's estate, no less) for a really good price... the caveat is that it had no compound slide for precise operation and uh... my motor skills ain't it. So any idea where I can get a compound slide? Or cross slide, I think they mean the same thing. It's a Whitcombe lathe, but I think I'm going to forgo the standard and just use one of the prebuilt things like you glossed over when you mentioned the Chinese thing.

2:39 so brass is a soft metal and you’re not supposed to over tighten it but it is more convenient because you don’t need thread tape because the softer metal seals the treads so you can take it apart and put it back together without having to tape the threads every time but with steel threads you need teflon thread tape. you mentioned the other cheap torch leaked a lot so i wonder if this was part of the issue?

Out of curiosity, what is holding your brush in place? I made one of these in place of getting a big expensive glue pot because I just don't need that much glue out at any time. It's awesome, thanks for this!

Just tension if you drill the hole small enough but if you want you can run a bead of glue around the hole. Good luck!

I hope youre not faceting stones on a regular basis without water or a dust mask. Lots of stones give off directly hazardous dust that you really don’t want to breathe in 🤔 besides that, genius! Simply genius! 😁😁😁

I have a foredom hammer attachment, if you look up how to shape & use gravers, you’ll see what each tip does. The most common is the square graver, it can make different scribes both thin & wide.. as well as shading.

THAT IS SOMETHING I never would have thought of! That is a great idea! I have 2 -$300 Vevor Faceting machines and one of them I gat free-both brand new! Thank you! NewYork my hometown!

The vise that you have will probably have limited use.. though I use mine it is only to hold a shellac or pitch plate that I glue my work to.. The pitch plate is awesome.. the other advantage, if you are working under a scope is it brings your work down closer to your centre of rotation. If I were you I’d just make another plate- a solid one with hot glue (Thin layer) which is quicker to cool and so quicker to pop things on and off (and can get your work even lower) All this assuming the magnets absorb the forces from engraving fine?

I sent my donation and email. I'm so excited! Would you consider making a saw reservoir tank that allows the collet to fit completely inside, where the saw blade comes up from the bottom? I would like make a little sled I can use to hold material and make longer straight cuts. I also think it would reduce some of the water splatter.
