    1. I retired in January 2024, at age 73 years 4 months. I had planned to retire in 2020, after turning 70, but we all know what happened in 2020, with the market and COVID. No sense retiring, once the Biden Administration, and his troll Fauci, shut down the country with BS regulations and we couldn't really travel. I do sometimes wish I had retired a few years earlier, but my wife and I are still in pretty good health overall. 2. Since retiring, I haven't yet curtailed our spending, but I will by year end. Having spent my lifetime in two different careers in the financial world, and a third career as a college professor, I practiced what I preached, ignored those "Financial professionals" with a hatred of anything they can't earn a fee on, and supplemented our Social Security incomes with income annuities. Beginning in August 2024, when I "turn on" 2 of our 4 annuities, we will enjoy a 6 figure income to support a comfortable lifetime, with over 55% of our income, income tax free. 3. Health wise, I am moving in the right direction. I started the carnivore diet in August of 2023 and to date, I have lost 56 pounds. I will continue on this diet for another 65 lbs., at least. Since February, 2024, I have been going to the gym 3 days a week. 45 mins on the treadmill and 20-30 minutes on weights. It's never too late to start working on your health, and there is no better use of your time. 4. I haven't really started any new hobbies yet, or volunteering, but I plan to within the next 5 months. I did volunteer to be a Poll Watcher for my local Republican Party, where I am also volunteering by assisting in voter outreach. After the elections in November, I will be looking for opportunities to assist seniors and our military veterans, with financial issues and taxes filing, through pro bono financial planning and retirement planning services. 5. Since last Thanksgiving, when we spent the week in Blue Ridge GA in an Air BnB mountain cabin, we have been on a number of road trips. We spent Christmas at Virginia Beach, VA, with our daughter and her husband, in January we hosted our son and his significant other here at home. In February and March we went to Air BnBs in NC and SC, also at the beach, and in April we visited The Villages, FL for a lifestyle visit. I loved it...but my wife, not so much. She prefers our 6 wooded acres. Over the past 8 weeks and for the next 4-6 weeks, we have been fostering kittens. Once they are old enough to spay or neuter, they are put up for adoption. Once we get through fostering the group we have now, we plan to get back on the road to Western PA and Eastern TN. My wife has a goal of visiting all 50 states and I plan to see that she does. In my many years "on the road," I have already visited 41 of them...although landing in Anchorage Alaska at 2 am, and getting snack in the airport snack bar, on the way to Viet Nam in 1969...I am not sure that counts, so we are looking forward to an Alaskan Cruise to check that state off our list. Happy Retirement folks.

    What blows me away is that people have been duped into the concept of working toward retirement. I think by the financial institutions. I'm now 65. But i have never held a real job. Never saved for retirement because i have lived life that way from the get go. To me, this idea of how much cash do i need to retire is baloney. And trying to figure out what you are going to do with yourself is also baloney. The trick is to have lived your life all along. Because its your life to live.

    There are a few contradictions. If you spent more and traveled more when you were younger, then you will have to retire later in your life. You retire when you have enough money to do so BUT you don't know how long you will be living thus you don't know how much minimum money you need.

    • @myretiredlife13
      @myretiredlife13 5 дней назад

      I traveled when I was younger (before I retired) extensively and still retired at 55. I used my overtime money for trips. You never know for sure how much you will need. It generally depends on your lifestyle.

    • @allsportsexpert
      @allsportsexpert 5 дней назад

      @myretiredlife13 In other words, you could have retired at 45(my retirement age) if you saved your travel money. Whether you wanted to retire at 45 is totally irrelevant. BUT more important you have completed and totally missed my POINTS.

    My mom has taken letters and text messages to the bank. Especially when the messages say they are from the bank. Turns out they were a scam not from the bank. Even when I read the letter and then the text message I wasn’t sure if it was scam or not. These people retired at 65 and regretted not retiring earlier. I’ll go along with that. What will future pensioners say with western governments pushing retirement age up to 67/68? Get rid of debt and keep active well before retirement.

    People retired at the age of their choice for many reasons, and it isn't a good thing to regret it. Either to retire earlier or later in your life, keep fit/healthy and saved enough money for the next 25-30 years is a good goal. My wife and I are in our mid-80s, and we live a good independent life financially, physically and emotionally. To God be all the glory!

    We can't wait to have time for hobbies!!! We are still in the rat race of life and do not have time to pursue passions or hobbies.

      Now is a good time to start thinking about it, before you retire. No?
