So I Bought the "Meme Toolbox" from Harbor Freight...
I'd read about these online and seen some of the Black Friday Sale controversy where people were buying them up and reselling them for ridiculous prices, then they got pulled from stores, etc. I had seen pictures of them but I guess I didn't have a real concept of their true size in my head, other than that it was a "mini toolbox". I figured that I couldn't go wrong with having more tool storage in the garage (seeing as though viewers often remind me that my workbench is extremely messy).
It turns out... This toolbox is a meme for a reason. It's cool, don't get me wrong, but I found its utility to be somewhat limited in my garage. But for like $17... it is kinda cool. Just not for the gar...

1948 CJ2A Jeep Cold Start
Просмотров 31021 день назад
It's January of 2025 in Arkansas, and we received an uncommon amount of snow accumulation (~8-9 in). With it being this cold, I thought it might be fun to try to get the Jeep started up to charge the battery a little. The battery was too low to get it going on the first attempt. It eventually started after an extra day of charging the battery, but I ran into a strange presentation of what turne...
US General Series 3 56" Tool Chest Review - One Year Later

Vintage Sears Manual Lockout Hub Restoration
Просмотров 2,5 тыс.2 месяца назад
These cool old circa 1970s Sears 10 spline hubs came with a basket case Dana 25 front axle that I'm working on rebuilding. These and many like them were aftermarket for Willys Jeeps. From what I understand, these should be basically the same on the inside as many of the others from the era that have a knob on the hub, such as Selectro, Mile Marker, Perfect Circle, Free Lock, 4 Wheel Drive, perh...

Part 1 if you missed it: ruclips.net/video/_7Uv1unP0lQ/видео.html The teardown and cleanup of the basket case abandoned Dana 25 front axle continues. I haven't had a lot of free time in the past month but I've been cleaning and degreasing things here and there, ordering parts, finding more that needs work, then ordering more parts. As expected, the ring and pinion are pretty well shot. The spid...
1948 CJ2A "Top Speed" Run (It's Not Fast)
Просмотров 4062 месяца назад
I thought it would be nice to get the Jeep out of the garage for Veterans Day and drive around a little. The engine is finally dialed in to "runs like a sewing machine" status. I found myself on a main road so I tried to get the Jeep up to its top speed. It's a Willys Jeep so 0-60 is not really possible without a tail wind, a downhill road, an overdrive, or a transmission swap. 0-45ish? Takes a...
Dana 25 Scrap Differential Cover into Wall Art
Просмотров 5273 месяца назад
While working on my second basket case axle project, I found that the differential cover for the Dana 25 front axle was pretty well rotted away and not salvageable. It had lunar surface levels of rust pitting and craters, even worse than the Dana 41 differential cover that I had previously deemed scrap and put up on the wall in my "snarky" corner of stuff. Since I lack a welder in the garage an...

Ep. 88: Driveshaft Misadventures and Swap Meet
Просмотров 7183 месяца назад
The rear driveshaft of the 1948 CJ2A Jeep was recently found to have been bent for who knows how long. With a freshly rebuilt rear axle just installed and a transfer case with only 150 miles on it, I wanted to make sure that there was no undue stress being added to the drivetrain. Unfortunately, a simple driveshaft swap turned out easier said than done. Big surprise, parts availability and corr...

The weather was great so I decided to get out in the garage and tear down the old Dana 41 axle that was just pulled out from under the Jeep a couple of videos ago. It was a tired, worn out axle with worn out, pitted, brinelled bearings and races, plenty of rust flakes floa...
Ep. 86: First Drive After Rear Axle Swap and Suspension Overhaul

It's finally time to break in the new ring and pinion. I decided to repeat the drive to a local park because the distance and speed required matched up pretty well with what I needed to do the first break in and real drive of the new suspension and rear axle. At long last, the time has come to swap out the tired Dana 41 rear axle with the one I spent a couple of months working on earlier this year. It's always interesting to see how people set up their box. It sounds like you and I both got the 56" in Jan 2024, and I've really enjoyed mine. I think adding the drawer unit on the side is a better use of $$ than going to the full-monty price of the 72". I got the hutch and really love it. I'm actually picking up the 22" end locker today... 🙂

Your Jeep is a happy ol chap, to start and run that well in the cold weather. When they sit the carb bowl tends to dry off, so it does take quite some cranking to start. Thats why the fuel pump with a lever comes in handy to prime the carb.

Ive seen quite a few axles with gaskets for the king pins, but it seems like they just werent able to find shims, or had no clue it uses shims and they just tried to seal things up.
