If you are looking for places to visit in and around Lancashire, short or long walks, parks, museums and places of interest, there may be something on this channel. I try to add a little bit of history on most of the videos plus some backing tracks of my own music, that's my other hobby. Not professional videos by any means but I try to make them interesting.

One of our favourite parks in England. The main park is on three levels of terracing with wooded areas further down. The area is known as Dungeon Wood. Levens Deer Park & Park Wood Suspension Bridge 4 Mile Circular Walk
Thank you for a great video nice to see the history of such a lovely place.
Glad you enjoyed it. We discovered it from a brochure given to us by a neighbour.
@ I am just about to show it to hubby who comes from Shawforth. We married in 74 and have lived in Australia since. He will get a big kick out of it.
Steps are for milk churns, Xrooby
Ah thanks for that, I just couldn't work that one out. And thanks for watching.
That is a beautiful video. I went up to Peel Tower with my mum and dad when I was a kid, I think it would have been in the 70s. We used to call it Holcombe Tower, (spelling?) but I think that's the name of the hill isn't it? It's a beautiful place, and a stunning view. Love you camera work, you have inspired me. It's on my list of things to do this year! Thanks for posting. 👍
Yes locals do often name the tower after the hill. Couldn't believe the amount of water pouring down the pathway. Thanks for watching.
What a start to the year with floods. I spent New Year's day in bed poorly with some kind of throat virus. You got some nice short of Peel Tower Steve. We followed most of the same route as yourself, but in reverse from the moors. Looked like quite a few people out on your walk. All best for 2025 to you both.
Oh no, hope you are better now, I have had a trapped neck nerve, thought it had gone, but now it is back again. So pleased I got to do a new years day walk. All the best to you two for 2025 and some good walks.
One of my favourite places to walk, but not this new year. I caught man flu and have been in bed most of the time.
Oh that's not good timing, you will have to have a belated new years walk.
Quite a wet walk , hopefully your feet stayed dry !
Very lucky timing, in between the rain showers, although it did get me later on. C'est la vie.
Very good i live in rural co durham the scenery very similar its new years eve lashing with wind n rain so i just think am down there
Yes, lashing it here too, with this constant rain I am learning the art of mud hopping on most walks. Have a great 2025.
@lancsway thanking you I live in weardale its a valley very similar your area two friends of mine who come from Rochdale but have a caravan here recently sold up and bought a house I here I have enjoyed showing them new walks around here so when I saw your local videos today can't wait to see them tomoro happy new year
What an amazing coincidence. We have recently visited and walked parts of the Wirral Way but on the west side banks of the River Dee. We have been to Ellesmere but not the port. I really do like watching the tourist side as well as walking route, also history too. A nice piano track accompaniment to your film Steve. (p.s. Did you feel tempted to play that piano in the floral pavilion conference room? ) All the best again for the Festive Season.
Another unusual route you have found, I see it was originally a railway track, if that's the one. Yes, I was tempted to play the piano, it brought back memories of the various residencies I had over the years, think I would have to get back in practice to do a three hour set again. All the best.
@@lancsway That would be brilliant for you Steve to have another go.
I never knew this all this about Barrow Bridge, But I do remember going up the steps with my grandad at Easter time. Thank you for this video that you have put on here to share with us. I think you should change the title and put Barrow Bridge Bolton, I think you would get more viewing because if you type in the search bar Bolton it would come up with all the Bolton videos.
Glad the video brought back memories, a great area for walking. Thanks for the suggestion, good idea, I have added Bolton to the title.
@@lancsway You might get more views now.
We had a short break in the west of Wirral last month which was very pleasant. It is years since I last visited the waterways Museum, and New Brighton I haven't been to since I was a child.
A while since we visited the Wirral too. William H. Lever turned up again, a busy chap, of course Port Sunlight with the Lever Brothers factory is quite close. I'm looking at rucksacks like the one you have, I have been suffering with a pinched nerve in the neck and perhaps my rucksack with cameras hasn't helped.
Looks great...My memories of New Brighton from the 1980's include staying in the roughest B and B ever looking out across the Mersey...i want a return visit after watching this
As the light faded about 4pm, thought I saw the Aurora Borealis, apparently it was fumes from the container ships mixing with the dock lights. After all those miles you two must have walked this year, hope you have a great Christmas and New Year.
@@lancsway Thanks...wishing you a relaxing peaceful Christmas too.
"Brexit Free Port" status could provide extra revenue here...?
At least priorities in right order for brew as first stop. We didn't visit Haigh Woodland Park only Haigh Hall, but I do enjoy your films around tourist places. The park looked pleasant too, added with your expert aerial camera techniques. Nice "Tinsel Time" piano arrangements in the background Steve.
Hi Shanita, looking forward to visiting the hall when it opens in 2027. The Amphitheatre is an unusual design, interesting to see it when it is completed. I've been putting my music about using Tunecore, it's been a nightmare, wish I hadn't started it.
@@lancsway I did wonder what the benefits were with iTunes. I believe there's a charge to set up an account. Put me off.
Nice to be out and walking on a carpet of crunchy fallen leaves in a range of autumn colours. Looking good there.
I like the "carpet of crunchy fallen leaves" description. The Autumn leaves can look as good as summer. Nearly turned that into the Nat King Coal lyrics.
Thanks for sharing, Naden Farm Red Lumb was my grandparents' home before they were forced out. They came to Queensland, Australia, after the devastation of losing their farm. They'd built a brand new bungalow by hand, and Nana had chosen red carpet and slate flooring. She was a weaver by trade, and Granddad was a farmer. Does anyone remember Ernest and Jessie Yates? They lived near Nowls Farm. My grandparents' place is now underwater.
Thanks for that fascinating incite into the plight of the farmers, perhaps someone reading will remember the Yates family. I hope they had a good life in Queensland.
awesome shots well done liked it not too far from me 👍
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching.
Quite a few familiar places along your walk. We have done Piethorn Valley and we live not far from Ellenroad Mill, so I recognised most of your routes. Quite a bit of history included in your film too. Well done with your research and excellent filming. Enjoyable music too. What a lovely mention of us in your video with channel links. I feel really honoured about that Steve and very pleased our walks give other walkers route ideas. Thanks so much. (p.s. I tried your links but itunes-apple link didn't seem to respond)
I recognised that route through the field from the cover of your video on Piethorne Valley. Wish I'd had the time to go further afield. Thanks for the info about the link, works with my windows 11 machine, I'll try it with my iPad.
Hello, Excellent video, very concise, yet, you got so much in there. I hope you do more. Very informative, and very well shot and edited. It definitely inspired me to go to Silverdale and Milnthorpe. Thank you, I hope you and your lady had a wonderful time. Thanks again Ray
Close to home for us. If you get the chance you should visit Ellenroad for the Christmas opening. Unless things have changed, they have musical entertainments from local folk groups performing in a Christmasy atmosphere.
Hi Michael, a walk from our bucket list after one of your videos. We were lucky to see the Ellenroad engines working, they had to stop them after a few minutes as one engine started overheating, must keep an eye out for the Christmas opening.
I see you're using some newer camera gear here Steve, I love your sweeping shots in this. Lovely walk, I've heard of the Piethorne Valley, must get to this area soon. The steam mill was fascinating. Wonderful to know about St Thomas Church being a replica of Holy Trinity Church. I lived in Weston-super-Mare myself a long time ago, which is where my Mum lives now. All the best 👍
Hi Patrick, I do like playing with these cameras, (big kid it's true), I have the Insta360x4 and also recently the Sony AX43, great camera, I think that's the one you use? We went to the Western-super-Mare carnival some years ago with some amazing floats full of lights, a most enjoyable little holiday. We have been watching your Forest of Dean videos. All the best.
@@lancsway Hi Steve, yes I do use the Sony AX43, although mine has become faulty in less than a year of purchasing it. I will be putting out a video on that early in the new year. The Weston carnival was amazing, glad you've seen it too.
@@solitaryramblerHi Patrick, I have found the AX43 gimbal isn't as good as the small action cameras, it feels like the motors just aren't strong enough, causing the stabilisation to twitch occasionally. I've adapted the way I use it but really like it for zoom shots.
Thank you for sharing your video. I'm 520th new friend. Have a good weekend my friend~❤
Looks a cracking place to walk...so many reservoirs.
An easy one for you two I think, but it can be made more challenging extending to the south Pennines. Thanks for watching.
Fantastic videos, amazing view points, keep up the great work 🎥 👍
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching.
OWD Betts not Old Betts pub
Not really done much walking in the Northwich- area, so it's nice to see map routes for that area. I thought seeing your route on your mobile was interesting. Never known how mobile maps worked or if accurate or not. The Salt museum looked like a promising tourist place to visit for us. Thanks for sharing Steve.
Hi Shanita, it was a really interesting museum, shocked at how many disasters it caused. Would be nice if they could fix the interactive displays. Going to take a boat trip up and down the Anderton boat lift on our next visit to Northwich, it looks like fun.
What an interesting and varied location, with nature reserves and a museum.
Hi Michael, although a flat walk, the history makes it interesting. Next time I would like to do a circular along the river Weaver to the Anderton boat lift and then along the Trent & Mersey canal.
Great film very helpful thankyou😊
Beautiful
No cows grazing there back in the 1950s when I used to swim there . But lovely to see a grebe swimming there . I never saw that !
We lived near here for years before discovering these lodges, there is a swimming group frequent the middle lodge early mornings and in all weathers. Thanks for watching.
@@lancsway My parents lived in Ainsworth in their later years . I knew there was a swimming group in these days of Cold water swimming . I was "nesh " - if you are a Lancastrian you'll know what that means !
Me too, did a winter swim once in my youth, never again, the pain was too much, hehe.
I lived in Norden in the 1950's and 60's on Woodhouse Lane. One of my summer holiday jobs was working in the bleach works just below Greenbooth. I spent much of my teenage years exploring Naden valley and climbing on the small quarries there. I remember the reservoir being built in the early sixties. Your film shows how lovely the valley still is. Thanks so much for sharing it.
An area we walk a lot, wish I had seen Greenbooth before they built the reservoir. Thanks for watching.
Hello, do you remember the Yates family?.
Don’t remember the name. But knew the Schofield family who had a farm on Woodhouse Lane. And Peter Clegg the windowcleaner. Peter took me tickling trout up Trout Brook. And I’m sorry to say now collecting birds eggs.
Hi Steve & Jeannie. Have been to Moses Gate a few times, but didn't recognise all the places in your film. The aerial shots helped orientate the lay out of the park. Certainly a lot of history and information around the area. Lovely cinematic film shots accompanied by your usual proficient piano piece'Paul's Walk'. Incidentally, I notice below blog under Featured Places some google location pictures links. I was wondering how you inserted those photos? (Many thanks.)
Hi Shanita, I do like adding a few shots from above, although I now have the drone and three cameras so my back pack is a bit full, as usual, I'm getting carried away with technology. I didn't put in any Featured Places picture links, it must be RUclips doing it. Looks like the summer is on its way out now and we've been so busy with other things, a lot of walking opportunities have been missed, oh well, c'est la vie.
@@lancsway Know what you mean Steve about carrying too much technology/cameras/ and missing out on walking with other things. Thanks for your answers.
Certainly a beautiful park. Love to see a plark being invested in and used . The friends of parks groups usually do a wonderful job maintaining,.volunteering and organising events. Lots of things to see and wonderful displays. I'm sure the terracing kept the calf muscles working. Bold venture park in Darwen is also very steep at the top end. Worth a visit if you haven't already 😊
Something about that park for me, so relaxing with great views, although you are right, the terracing can be a little tiring. Yes we did a walk through Bold Venture park and up to the tower, another tiring walk but worth it.
Ah know this area well. We often join the old canal from near Ringley bridge and walk along. Spent many times in the play area at Moses Gate too when my boys were younger. I remember the visitors centre being open but didn't know all it's history until now. The canal is also a great walk towards Bury, passing through Radcliffe and beyond to Elton reservoir. I think I need to revisit Moses Gate and try the circular you did on here . 😊😊
I enjoyed researching the history of this area, particularly what a busy hub Prestolee was. Moses Gate visitor centre is currently an on going project to reopen including a cafe, looking forward to that.
So many variations to walks in the Croal/Irwell valleys, and all so lovely. Pity the visitor centre had to close; looks so sad now. You had a fine day for your walk Steve.
Hi Michael, I remember watching a video you did in that area. It would be great if the hall could be used again and I know that is a current project. Replacing the 6 locks sounds like a big project.
Well I never this was so close to where I live. Loving the warning signs for the geese. Should have these fitted in Lower Broughton, Salford and just as you come off the Mancunian onto Regent Road.
Yes the geese signs also need to be easy for traffic to see. Great area for walking with interesting history, thanks for watching.

An English Country Garden I recognised as your soundtrack. Really liked the jazzy feel to your piano piece. "Beyond the Horizon". So pleasant to hear. Excellent views in your film Steve. We visited Castle Hill but not been to Beaumont Park. What a lovely day out for you both.
It's a regular place for us to visit even though it is a bit of a drive. Unfortunately we missed the events and brass band last month, nice to see band stands being used. I seem to be churning out the jazzy tunes quite quickly at the moment, glad you liked it.
Shout out to Preston the terrier, and Steve who gave him such wonderful walks
That sure is a beautiful and interesting park. I can see why it is a favourite for you Lovely film Steve.
Hi Michael, such an unusual park with plenty of steps up and down the valley, would like to have seen it when the castle existed.
The football pitch that you see being played on at 1:40 is where Oasis filmed the football sequence in the Shakermaker video 30 years ago
Oh yes, just had a look at it, the black & white part of the vid with helmets on.
I was 12 yrs old the last time I walked up to Musbury Tor Hill, I am now 65, and this video brought back some awesome memories, growing up in Helmshore I did not appreciate the beauty of the land around me, Many thanks for sharing, greetings from New Zealand.
Hi, glad to hear this video brought back memories, lovely place for walking, we visit often. My uncle moved to New Zealand with work many years ago and decided to stay.
Wow, such a beautiful place. Its nice to finally see where my last name comes from. Im an American.
Hi, glad you found this video interesting, it's great to get up into those hills, thanks for watching.
Looks an interesting little trail....not been over that way for years
Yes its a good walking area around Calderdale, plenty of hills and valleys.
I noticed similar hidden signpost in the bushes we've experienced too.. A nice route you took. Cragg Vale is on our to do list at the moment. Unusual bridges I noticed. Really get the feel of the terrain around you. Nice easy going piano arrangement with your usual expert style. It seemed a longer walk than 3.5 miles. Admit one of ours due to upload is similar.
It definitely felt like more than 3.5 miles Shanita, probably all the ups and downs and the slow progress along the more awkward terrain, must say though, I found that one really relaxing, especially the riverside walking. Glad you liked the piano piece, I'm getting quicker at writing that jazzy style now.
I've done a few different walks in and around Cragg Vale, but not for quite some time. We have it earmarked to do again some time in the not too distant future. Was your Garmin device in a heavily wooded area when it failed? Sometimes, especially in steep sided valleys that are well-wooded they don't pick up a signal from the satellites. That's not unusual, and the route you have at the end can show gaps when that happens. .
Hi Michael, that would explain it as it's never caused any problems before. Great little gadget for keeping you on track, use it a lot now. Do like Calderdale and surrounding areas.
Along with the rain, persistent wind has been a real bugbear this year. Nice area around there. Silverdale/ Arnside. We have walked parts of it, but still so much to do there.
Yes, we noticed lots of interesting footpaths on our way in to Silverdale centre. We seem to be recovering from our Covid quickly so looking forward to getting out again.
Just like to say that Duxbury is pronounced Ducksbury not Dukesbury.
I always get my pronunciation wrong, thanks.
2:59 i grew up on in two houses on Sunnybank Cottages, numbers 13 and 19. Also the hill you walked down 30 seconds previously used to sledge down there as a child in the winter! Great video thank you
What a great place to have spent your childhood, that reminds me, must pop down to the Sunday market again. Thanks for watching.
@@lancswayyou’re very welcome. Great channel and well worked videos . And yes I have fond memories of Sunnybank thank you
Looked like a breezy day. I did a circular walk around the area about a year ago with my 80 year old dad. We were making use of the £1 Northern Rail Sale tickets from Manchester. It was about rushed as we were restricted by the return time. Good to see this walk too
Good on your Dad still doing the travelling and walking at 80. Hope I'm the same in ten years time. We often make use of our bus passes to get around.
