San Martin SN0144 Watch Review - Budget Watch of the Year? Affordable Luxury with Little Compromise
In this review, we'll be looking at the recently released San Martin SN0144-GX in 39mm with blue dial. Has San Martin made a true Rolex Datejust alternative, for a Seiko price? San Martin has definitely tried to raise the bar with this watch, considering the level of quality, specs, and that beautiful Jian Zhan inspired dial pattern. The San Martin SN0144 does make a nice GADA (Go Anywhere Do Anything) option, and it has the quality and affordability we've come to expect from San Martin watches. But have we really reached the level of no-compromise affordable luxury?

Today we're comparing the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date 38mm Cervo Volante to a homage pilot watch that can often be found on Ali Express for around $160. The Oris is a great watch, but maybe a bit overpriced at full retail. Does the $160 homage stand a chance? Islander Port Jefferson GMT - Rolex True GMT Functionality for the Price of a Seiko!
My ProDiver came ( 3 years ago)) wirh a bezel which would not turn at all.I tried everything in my arsenal but it doesn’t turn up this day. I don‘ t wear it any more. There are so much better dive watches on Ali. Would buy a SM instead…50 bucks more expensive but so much better… There is no more heritage in this watch than in a MG car coming out of China. The watch itself may be tough but a dive watch with lume that fades within 3 minutes is just rubbish from the start. Well - at least it helped me to become sensitive on what to check on a watch before buying.
Having seen your excellent review I put a tiny bit of lubricant on the tip of the screws before screwing them back in which went very smooth. The clasp and one of the chain links also needed some lubrication. The watch is beautiful. Maybe I will have to regulate it in a few months because out of the box it is running at average at -10 s/d. Not perfect but can be easily fixed. But I will wait because often this changes after wearing them for a while. Great musical performance by the way!
Subbed a while back, great video!
Sub'ed
great review of a great watch, love your photography
Great review! Made me a subscriber. I really like the watch but would still prefer my blue SM SN0144 - which I got for 50 % the price of the Ascent
The SN0144 is fantastic. Thanks for watching!
Great video, my sn0144 had no bracelet screw issue, i did notice that they were fixed with some sort of white "loctite"
Thanks. That could be. I didn't see any loctite on the screw, but maybe there was something. I haven't really heard of others with this issue, so I'm hoping it was just my own bad luck or user error. Thanks for watching!
Great video and I really like the intro As a novice collector and a new creator, I finally understand the subscribed vs views. That's why I subbed on both my accounts. 😉👍🏾
Thanks man, I just checked out your channel. Looks like you're off to a good start! Good luck, and thanks again.
I have had this watch for about 1 week and it is amazing. I think this makes many of the microbrands seem less attractive for the price. I don't think the Swiss have anything to worry about because they are selling more than watches (heritage, prestige, achievement etc.) but for the less well known microbrands, this is a very real threat to their business.
This video is a masterpiece. Subbed for sure
Is the date centered correctly? Looked off a bit in some of the video, but could be parallax error. I've been holding out on purchasing a San Martin, but I am seriously considering this watch.
In some of the shots the date was starting to change over. I didn't notice how off center it was getting until editing it on the big screen. In reality, its centering is good. I can't imagine you'd be disappointed with this watch, especially if you get it during a sale. Thanks for watching!
I enjoyed your video, the intro was amazing... this is the first video of yours that I have seen and have now subscribed :)
10/10 video! Great quality brother. Subbed🎉
Good luck getting one. I have had mine on order for over 5 weeks from the EU distributor and have enjoyed lots of varied excuses and broken promises as to its delivery.
Sorry to hear that. I've gotten all my San Martins from AliExpress or Watchdives with no delivery issues yet. Good luck getting it sorted!
@@worthwhilewatches Thanks. I've literally had an email one hour ago saying that they have sent it direct to me from China, tax paid by them. Tracking number provided and I should expect delivery next week. We'll see how things go.
I pre ordered the origin and ended up with a phantom shipment being created by them. This lead to me paying import duty and tax on the wrong consignment. In the end I had to pay this twice and was left to argue this out with the shipping company with little support. Just to make matters worse when my origin arrived it wouldn’t run and I had to do a warranty replacement. To this day I rarely wear this watch as it just reminds me of a bad experience which is a shame. I am not saying Erebus don’t make great watches and it was their first watch, but I am just pointing out that a watch can remind you of memories and my Origin does that, just in a not so good way.
Sorry to hear that. I know what you mean. Maybe with time you can form some new memories with the watch? Thanks for watching!
Fantastic Video, you deserve more subscribers. Keep up the great work.
Much appreciated. Thanks for watching!
My purple 38mm Origin has been great to wear in my rotation. I have a purple fumé Ascent in a J style bracelet too. Love the button micro adjust! Great review.
My friend this was such a killer video. I thoroughly enjoyed it. You also have a very unique and great editing Style
Thanks for the nice words. Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching!
Very cool. Good to have your take on it. This watch is going to be one of the watches we look back on when people ask, “when did the Chinese become a major player in the watch world?” And subscribe to the channel people. The man learned to play a magical cup for this video for goodness sake! Shame about the screw though…
Thanks for watching as always! Yeah, San Martin is getting very very good, and I finally found a good use for the magical musical teacup!
Quality and delivery of this video is A1. This channel deserves rapid growth. I like this watch and I am tempted to place an order. I have a few SanMartin watches and I like them all.
Yeah, I have quite a few San Martins now, and they're all impressive. But the slim case, dial pattern, and finishing of this one make it stand out. Thanks for watching!
Nice video, man! just subscribed, check the Milifortic m052 when you get a chance, the finishing is outstanding 👌👌
10mm on the clasp and 8mm links is not that great. 8mm is pretty short for full links so I am guessing they are 9 or 10mm. The clasp could be more like 12.5mm (5 x 2.5mm) though which would help How many positions are there on the clasp? Sorry, I am a bit of an expert on bracelet/clasp adjustment so not having part links with those measurements is a fail in 2024. It will work for some, but like the Tudor BB fake rivet bracelet, will simply not fit others because the full micro adjust range is the same as a link.
Yeah, that's another thing I should add to the list of improvements San Martin could make. Half links with all their bracelets. This clasp has 6 positions with 10mm of travel. Links are 8mm from one screw center to the next. I was able to get a good fit with this one with room on either side. Thanks for watching!
It’s an extremely comfy, well-done bracelet 👌
42/21mm is coming Tuesday and will be interesting to see how the bigger size compares.
Furst
I have own the black helix that's been great. no issues
Nice! The helix pattern is very cool. I haven't had any issues either since getting this one back. Thank for watching!
I was an Ocean Rover II owner and sold it to a friend because he just wouldn't leave me alone and made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I've regretted that sale ever since, to the point that I am considering a re-buy. However, like you, I was amazed by the San Martin Titanium SN0111T. Now I have a dilemma thanks to you. I have to say that, after watching your 5-part review and analysis of the Rolex Submariner homage watches, you have a new subscriber on your hands. Well done!
Good luck re-acquiring your OR II. Thanks for watching!
Just purchased one in the BF Sale. Cracking deal, delivered to the UK with taxes paid just under £160. This is my second Long Island watch.
Sounds like a great deal! It's nice to see Marc trying to accommodate UK buyers. Cheers mate!
The name Hamilton is as weird as Escapement Time and in fact the latter is more relatable to watches. Stop sucking up to Swiss brands
Thanks for your reply. All watches are appreciated and welcome here, and I think you’ll find I really don’t favor Swiss watches on this channel. So I hope you stick around. Thanks again for watching!
"That's something you can't unsee". Yes, you're absolutely right. Thanks a lot. 🤬🖕😭
Sorry! 😮
Please arrange a metalic Casio digital world time watch for me, should not be very expensive
Nice choice ; ) Took me about 4 seconds to pick the blue helix on an 'O' bracelet though lol You can get 3 to 4mm of adjustment on the 7mm and 10mm links before needing to use the clasp adjustment. I needed to use that to get the watch to fit me. It also means the clasp is in the middle of the 5 positions so its ready to go if my wrist changes sizes due to heat etc.
You're more decisive than I am! Yeah, the bracelet adjustment is great on this watch. I need to use the microadjust clasp often as the wrist shrinks and swells. Thanks for watching!
@@worthwhilewatches I sometimes buy a watch before the video has ended lol. It's so important to size the bracelet properly by manipulating the part links so that the micro adjust can be in the middle ready to go in or out. Did you understand what I meant by having 3-4mm on the bracelet? From stock you can reduce the bracelet as follows: 7mm, 10mm, 14mm, 17mm, 20mm, 24mm, 27mm, 30mm, 34mm....... People who think they are half links will only have: 7mm, 10mm, 17mm, 20mm, 27mm, 30mm, 37mm........
Yes, I know what you mean. I do try to get that middle of the clasp fit for adjustment either way, and this bracelet allows for that (but as it turns out, I didn't need the half links to get that perfect middle of the clasp fit). Too many bracelets have long links, no half links, and only 2 or 3 clasp holes, which just isn't enough. Thanks again.
good video. If you keep it up your subscriber count will rise quickly. One quick criticism that I may have is that there could be more cuts throughout. Occasionally it felt odd looking at you speaking directly into the camera for extended periods. Even if you just reused clip, it would make it better. Keep it up though!
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it, and thanks for watching!
Glad I found your channel my friend. That was a very nice review 👍👊
Glad you're here. Thanks for watching!
Clean work bro
Nice review, thanks, and a beautiful blue Helix Ascent! Regarding long response time: I guess, Erebus were completely overpowered by the sheer amount of ordered models in connection with the first batch. They just were overtaxed and weren't able to engage enough trustworthy folks out of family and friends who helped to dispatch several thousands of watches during the first two weeks of the launch. If they had to ensure full speed response during peak times, their product simply were offered at thrice the price. Regarding bad movement: This was bad luck, yes. Enjoy this beautiful piece 💙
Yeah, I understand the difficulty and I hope Erebus is able to keep up with increasing customer service demands as their business grows. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the great review. I love my Ascent (white enamel on J Style). Sorry your watch had to be repaired. That always leaves a bad taste, but glad it was handled. My only regret is that I think I wish I had gone with the green fume. Thanks again!
Yeah, the green fume was in my top 3 or 4. Such a tough decision! Thanks for watching!
That's crazy. When I had an issue with my Origin, the response was less than 10 minutes and they had it rectified immediately. I hope they can improve consistency. I do think, with all new brands, as they grow, they'll continue to hire more folks and get it more streamlined. I've found all 3 that I've owned to be of great quality for the money.
John at Ginault says to NEVER, EVER hand wind his products. Know this before buying.
Yes, this can apply to any ETA 2824, Sellita SW200, or other clone movement, which can develop problems from hand winding. This is not a Ginault specific issue. But yes, John is quite emphatic about not hand winding any 2824 type movement.
I gave a sw200 movement watch to my grandson. Broke it in a day. Thought it was him, until I turned another sw200 crown 2x , and broke it. Not really my favorite movement.
Try Praesidus..
Bravo!
Thanks for watching!
My preference is it's big brother, the Casio MRW-210H, which is a giant 55mm version (not a mistyped, it's a big dial) because I can actually wear it over my motorcycle gloves and read it easily while riding off-road even with a dirty visor. It's kind of an accident tool watch. It would probably work well for Skiing or Sailing for much the same reason. You can wear it over your jacket and gloves.
Yeah, that one is probably a bit big for my typical uses, but definitely a good choice to wear over a large sleeve. Thanks for sharing!
My Ginault OR 2 has better lume than my Rolex Milgauss, I was going to spend $144,000.00 on a mil-sub I decided to spend $1800.00 on the OR-2. this is my real GADA watch. Great Video thank you .
Like a modern day Vincent Price. 😁
Buy a rubber strap. Divers look better on rubber anyway.
Major kudos for writing a little bit of Horological Halloween poetry! The watches are cool also! Thanks!
You're videography could sell me on it.
Thanks for watching!
Why does it say sapphire crystal on the back of Casa? Some may think that the glass on the back cover is also sapphire crystal.
Yeah, I know what you mean. Usually the information on the case back refers to the main crystal, but that could cause confusion. At least the website clearly states that the case back is mineral glass.
@ Can I ask you one more question? I'm sorry, I don't want to disturb you, but I bought a Seiko alpinist 1959 watch, but I couldn't find any information about whether the back glass is sapphire or mineral. Do you have any information
I don't have that watch myself, but looking at pictures of the case back, it looks like it says "Top sapphire crystal". So, I'd be pretty confident in saying the case back is probably Hardlex.
@@worthwhilewatches thank you very much
Do you think $1500 is fair for the watch?
Yeah, that's about what I paid for it, and seems fair for what it is (especially with the leather extras). Thanks for watching!
That watch is definitely a loser ...
Nothing says luxury and refinement like the eldritch god of the deep, cthulu!
