GM door charm too loud
Просмотров 54Год назад
Why did gm make the door charm so loud? This only works on vehicles that have a dedicated door charm speaker. Most newer vehicles have the charm sound integrated into the radio. In which this won't work for you :(. The test vehicle is a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix however, this will work on far more vehicles than just GM.

      Just google the GM part number I've provided. You can find it from various sources like Amazon, eBay, oemparts wholesellers... They are out there. Unfortunately they recently became a discontinued part so dealers won't stock.

    i've had the internal baffles cut out of my w bodies for decades, but didn't realize i could go further with the side tube. will do so asap. if the headlight is removed, and without the side tube, there is an effective ram air system at work. i don't recommend this for the street since there is significant dirt entry into the air box. the ECM connections need to be protected from the elements and i used di eletric grease to seal the connectors. as an aside there are sometimes an engine code for mixture too lean. this means the modded box flows much better than stock. with slower driving the code automatically goes away. glade i bumped into this video. thanks.

    Didn't watch the whole video, but if u take a multimeter to the pins on the plug to the ABS module under the hood to find the correlating pin outs to the hubs u can also test from there for ohms reading, and if there's no ohms coming back like 1,200 or so i believe it is normally, then there's a short to the wheel hub sensor cable that you're testing on.

    • @carnage50x
      @carnage50x Год назад

      I prefer to diag this by logging wheel speed data while test driving. Graph them against each other and watch for dips/spikes. Unfortunately this 2003 year model has a one year only module so that functionality isn't available. Best we can do is poke and probe. From my years of experience, I've found it's best to not mess with the modules main connector as these cars are old and brittle. The breaks are almost always along the control arm. Or right at the wheel bearing itself.

    here in the next few days, im likely going to go to a junkyard and remove a box off a similar year as mine and do this mod to that and that way i can take my time and not have to worry if I have to go out for some reason, as well as clean it up a little bit and install a modded and better looking air box into my own car.

    Worked like a charm! I was all ready to take the whole radio out and apart as other videos have described, but I am so glad that I came across this little hack. It took me a total of 10 minutes. I used a utility knife to cut off the flange on the new knob instead of the snips like you did here, and I needed a tiny flat head screwdriver to pry off the old metal sleeve. Thanks so much for posting!!

    i always thought the knob part inside the radio is gone bad, which used to happen with old radio and music systems, that time you have to remove that knob assembly and connect the wires to the specific one, way tooooo complicated, just now realized its not that. going to do the same repair on my radio. need those tools first. and the knob. thanks

    Thanks for the info! I was interested in the clearance and mods that had to be made to fit. Cause I saw speed daddy they almost fit the same and I figured since these were more expensive they would be better fitment but seems like it is almost the same. Thank you!

    • @carnage50x
      @carnage50x 4 года назад

      np. These are probably the best headers you can get as far as fit/finish/ease of install. (Other than the dipstick tube problem) but, they're so expensive the dipstick tube problem shouldn't be a problem ya know? The speed daddy ones are a lot more difficult to install and requires a lot of modifying to get to fit. And have a weird dip at the bottom. The zzp dropped right in and cleared everything but the AT tube and 1/8" away from the fire wall (I had short dog bones so that explains the firewall clearance). It is miles better fit, but still not perfect. And for the cost, it should be perfect. Look up salemdoyle. He's got an in-depth video on the SD headers.

    • @Invasivesocal

      @@carnage50x oh forsure im going to look it up. I just ordered the stage 2 package from zzp. I can't wait till it arrives. Im definitely ready for some boost smalled pulley. I think after that i want a full 3" exhaust. Im like no more mod but is hard to stop. Ultimately would be nice headers, loweres some nice wheels and tyats it lol i know i would want more haha

    • @carnage50x
      @carnage50x 4 года назад

      @@Invasivesocalfor exhaust, the best bang for your buck and ease of install (exhaust wise) would be zzp front p-log and zzp 3" downpipe (catted or not doesn't matter, the highflow cat they use has next to no back pressure). The stock cat back can actually cope pretty well when making more power. The most restrictive sections in the factory exhaust is the downpipe section. Then after that it's the front manifold. Headers aren't really needed until 300whp mark (mileage will verify, some vehicles may be different). There's plenty of people down in the high 12's without headers. Good luck with yours 👍. Once you've been bitten with the 3800 bug it's hard to quite.

    What mods did you have done before? I have zzp 2.5 inch cat back exhaust, along with cold air intake should I drop a pulley?

    • @carnage50x
      @carnage50x 4 года назад

      As for exhaust, I had zzp front p-log, 2.5in dp w/cat, factory cat-back. For the motor at the time of the video, I had 1.9 ratio rockers, #90 valve springs, 3.3 or 3.4 pulley I can't remember, autolite 104 plugs, fender well intake, short stack intercooler. I might be missing things. For your pulley size I'd scan for kr and watch your boost level. You want to be in the 8-9 psi area with no KR. As you increase flow (mow flow mow powa) boost will drop. Dropping pulley size to bring it back to 8-9psi. Being that you're pretty much stock. 3.6 should be safe but scan for kr

    • @carnage50x
      @carnage50x 4 года назад

      No clearance issues. I even have a full set of 4 fronts all around. There is a problem with w-body cars having excessive camber in the rear. Check for warn suspension components.
