Beginning our journey building fine 1911s
My ww2 a1 got way sloppier than that and it still shoots like a laser beam with 50yds
Even a drop in barrel needs bushing fitting.
Taking a caliper to the hood and slide could give you the measurements needed to fit just before final removal of material.
massad ayoob talk's about not 🚫 dropping your slide on your 1911 , he says it's literally like a kitten 🐈 dieing LoL 🤣😆🤧 and he makes a meow noise .
Thanks for informing us what goes into building your 1911
where is part 3
would much rather hear you than the speeded-up footage, when competent speaking is being done do not strive for short videos
Don’t know where you learned to fit barrels but it’s pretty much all wrong
Nothing you said makes a true
I am ex military and own several 1911's with worn barrels two of which I am fitting barrels to (an RIA I am fitting an Ed Brown barrel to and a Les Baer I am fitting a Wilson Combat barrel to): *_ Both these weapons will fire for hours without a misfire or fail to feed with reasonable accuracy_*, but they have the same problem; firing pin strikes visibly low on the primer on all spent cases ( I mark the cases with magic marker on the top as I load the magazines). I have all the necessary files from Brownells to fit barrels, but I am out of my element. I am past the points in your barrel fitting 1 & 2 videos. Wish I had found this sooner. I will pay for your time to give me a few pointers. I want to do at least a few barrels by myself now that I am retired.
Well, im disapointed. No part 3. You had a perfect oart 1 &2, but nothing on barrel link size, foot width, vis ect, ect. 😢 I was looking forword to that. There is only one video on the subject, that goes in depth anyway, on the internet.
Would to see a follow up video on how you prep for blueing and the blueing process you use. Thanks!
What machine is that? The color could be Mats... BT holder..... I ran some of those old Mats years ago... they were bullet proof.
You should also just never fire your gun. My bad. Future fudd
Do your 9mm commanders use ramped barrels?
Man I need to save up my money for one of those 👍
Cool video 👍
The hood fit should not touch the barrel lugs align the the barrel gunsmith’s that build target pistol’s believes that binds the barrel
Also, note the useful tips in Kuhnhausen Book 1, p.45 on springing and fine tuning barrel tilt with a broach cutter.
Just like I do it. Good video. Now, do the edge beveling on the slide for carry
Very interesting video. Thanks for sharing this useful information with us. What tool would you use to make the radius all around the handle ?
You need a Godfrey Stuck Bushing Driver for when the bushing is too tight and won’t come out of the slide.
You talk a lot of shit !! instead of building ....
One thing you didn't address in this video, but if you are going to cerakote the gun, do you need to make this tolerance a bit looser? Or do you mask it before coating?
Crickets
god that looks beautiful
Just an observation several other gun builders choose to start off by using file work initially then switching to the dremel. Is this just personal preference? Or do you find using the dremel makes it easier?
I built my 1st 1911 GI a few yrs ago, I always wandered why the hell they cost so much!! Yeah well I realized “Why”! Every single part in that gun had to be hand filed, polished and fit to perfection!!! Thankfully, I’m good at it because now I have one hell of an accurate gun! I’ve always been fascinated with the 1911 because of WWII ! But I love it even more after building one..
I Have A 1903 Pocket Hammer. Would Love To Find A 1903 Pocket Hammerless
The military mandated Colt's Manufacturing, with WW1 on the horizon, to produce tolerances that used a go/no go gauge that all manufacturers, even those that were not in firearms manufacturing, would follow to have a supply of weapons that were not manufacturer-specific to a particular firearm. The test was to disassemble two pistols from each maker and put them in a box that was shaken to mix the parts. The pistols were assembled w/o regard to the maker and then test-fired. It worked. The "drop in" parts was born. 113 years ago. God Bless JMB.
Was Part 3 ever published??
Part 3?
Im really glad i made the decision to buy mine from Niel. His work ethic is top level and taking pride in his finished product. Theres really not many shops left doing this quality work.
There is polished and there is polished. That is some OCD attention to detail. I’m going to have to up my game in this area. Thanks for the knowledge of what you guys do.
Looks good Neil do you ever see a need to polish the underside of the hood for smoother feeding ? Getting closer !!
I do a bit of polishing on the top of the chamber were the bullet contacts during feeding. This helps it smoothly transition from tipped up to straight when chambering.

Great content, looking forward to some videos on how you do internal fitment
I do think your doing great work hope to get up to your level eventually.
Very interesting!! Is it removing material on the up stroke or down stroke? Thanks.
Здравствуйте,а вы можете сделать пистолет ТТ Тульский Токарев
How much to have a gun done and do they stay that blue color
To have a gun done, you'd have to buy a Sbardella 1911.
Bluing is the finish on a gun. It’s a shiny slick blue/ black color. Not many manufacturers doing beautiful bluing anymore. Sbardella is a traditional style 1911 maker.
nice harrison design thumb safety, needs a harrison extreme slide stop to go with it
Is Part #3 barrel lug fitment available?
Not yet, filming soon!
There are a lot of things I like about the new smiths and a whole lot I don't like. I wish there was a market for S&W pattern revolvers in the way there is for 1911s. would have been cool if they took the opportunity to triple lock the new Model 19 when they added that yoke lock. the frame shape changes, laser engraving after bluing, and overall lack of fit/finish or care put into the final assembly are why I'll never buy a new smith unfortunately. Also, they're more expensive than a used smith for what is, in a lot of ways, a lesser product.
Thanks for my daily lesson. Always interesting.
Thanks!
Web site please
Great work
Some Dan Wesson production 1911s have this rounded frame. Pretty sure it was a dw that they sent a picture of. Feels great in the hand.
Nice bloopers !
Appreciate all of the information neil, these are terrific videos
Thanks for watching!
This explains why mine is so perfect. True craftsmanship
Thanks for taking the time to do this ! What brand beavertail is that? I like the it isn't overly swoopy
Thanks for watching! Its an EGW part.
Thanks so much!! I’m sure you’re busy enough as it is, but the 80 percent 1911 market seems limited to like two manufacturers, would be awesome to see another company enter the ring for guys that want to try making their own using your videos as a guide !!
