Anyone remember the console wars? ...are they still happening? If you're a retro gamer, you probably remember them in the 16-bit era. And you also probably appreciate both the Super Nintendo and the Sega Genesis (or the Sega Mega Drive) because we're adults now. But every once in a while, I'll see someone talk about the Genesis' inferiority to the Super Nintendo, especially when it comes to sou...

It's more than just Mew! There are actually dozens of Pokemon you can't catch in the wild in Kanto, which suggests that they aren't even from the region at all! I think there's a stronger argument for Togepi being a Sinnoh Pokemon thanks to it being found in the wild in Legends Arceus, that said it's likely either near extinct or so critically endangered that its population is only kept up through controlled breeding efforts, which would explain why cynthia has an egg to give you in platinum, and why its so rare in Galar, it's possible that their evolutions used to lay their eggs around these areas, but that their populations have been for whatever reason devastated.

    The evolutions of the kantonain pokemon didn’t exist because the catalyst that fostered their evolution did not exist in Kanto. Just like animals evolve in the real world based on the reason they live, so do pokemon…

    Now that I think about it wouldn't the place where you can find said Pokemon in abundance be the native region, surly finding a pokemon in low quantities would imply that they aren't native rather migratory, invasive or even imported

    • @BabusGameRoom
      @BabusGameRoom 3 дня назад

      That's definitely possible! However, sometimes it can be the opposite: A creature that first inhabits one region fits an ecological niche, but isn't very common...it then gets introduced elsewhere that it doesn't have any predators, and then it becomes super common as an invasive species!

    I think Togepi and togetic are sinnoh pokemon because they can be found in hisui in the wild and are still catchable in sinnoh, altough it is through pokeradar. (sorry if my english is bad I am german)

      @Potramon 6 дней назад

      Yeah, i thought too, and i would even say the same for misdreavus and murkrow for the reason that their evolution by stone were happening in hisui, but in jotho, the stone just didn’t exist for the evolution to occur. Also, don’t worry, your english is very good

      Your English is great! No need to apologize. =) You're definitely right! I actually forgot to check if Togepi and Togetic were in Hisui because they aren't normally catchable in Sinnoh. You're right about the PokeRadar, but I'm not counting that as a "normal" part of the wild. But still, I now think Togepi is native to Hisui/Sinnoh! ...I still need to play Legends: Arceus, haha

  • @michaelmario299

    A more boring but logical reason for Houndour, the Murkrow, and Slugma line being Johto Pokémon despite not being found in the region in GSC/HGSS (the latter only normally) is simply because they migrated to Kanto from Johto between Gen I/III and Gen II/IV like the Johto Pokémon encountered in both regions and the formerly Kanto Pokémon now only found in Johto in those games likely did and. Could also have come from the Sevii Islands - Houndour being meant to appear in the Altering Cave before the e-Reader cards that'd unlock it were scrapped. Team Rocket took control of Silph Co. for, like, a day tops - not nearly long enough to have seriously messed with their production schedule let alone the Poké Balls they produced. That having been said, Team Rocket also doesn't need to be involved since a defect in the Poké Balls Silph Co. produced and sold in Kanto was unintentionally preventing held-item trade and friendship evolutions from working in the Kanto games - a defect that is fixed by a firmware update in FRLG after obtaining the National Dex. Sudowoodo, Johto Starters, Tyrogue and Togepi lines go into the "that monster Baba drove them into hiding/near-extinction with his attempt to create a Johto Safari Zone" theory. Darn old man is a fake Pokémon conservationist who schemes were thankfully put to a premature end in Let's Go! Pikachu/Eevee, and many dumps will be taken on his grave by his former victims in Johto remakes.

    • @BabusGameRoom
      @BabusGameRoom 3 дня назад

      For the Gen 2 Pokemon in Kanto, there really are no traces of them in Johto outside of a few trainers who have them (mostly Team Rocket members, IIRC?). So that leads me to believe that they're not actually from Johto at all. Team Rocket took over Saffron City, blocking access not just to many buildings (including Silph Co.), but even to the city itself! Technical limitations on the Pokeballs are also plausible, but I think it's reasonable to believe that Team Rocket had influence in Silph for much longer than a day. I'm definitely liking this Evil Safari Warden theory, though! =D haha

    • @BabusGameRoom
      @BabusGameRoom 3 дня назад

      That's definitely true! Porygon wasn't a good choice to go through that whole song and dance, haha

  • @michaelmario299
    @michaelmario299 7 дней назад

    If you're sticking to game canon, it needs to be said that Team Rocket doesn't seem to have had anything to do with Mewtwo's creation in the games proper: that was Dr. Fuji before he became Mr. Fuji to atone for his sins. Team Rocket likely had nothing to do with Porygon's creation, either, because Giovanni would not still be pressing the company's president for the secrets of the Master Ball if they'd taken control of Saffron City any sooner than after you defeat Giovanni the first time. The Rocket Game Corner likely had Porygon as a prize because while it was ultimately a front for Team Rocket, it was still presented as a legitimate business; albeit it was probably a arrangement that Silph Co. regretted. Regarding the starters, they seem to be as rare as the games want them to be. The Sinnoh starters in Legends Arceus and all the non-Paldea starters in The Indigo Disk can be found in the wild (with an asterisk in the latter example) because they aren't the starter Pokémon of those games - and in the former example and X & Y, even the starters of those games can be caught via Space-Time Distortions and Friend Safari respectively. The Let's Go! games are an interesting case because while the Kanto starters being catchable in the wild tracks with them being treated as rare Pokémon rather than starters, the Partner Pikachu and Partner Eevee remain exclusive as starters being their appearances and stats differ from the wild Pikachu and Eevee you can catch. Is it really wise to include the Kangaskhan = Cubone's mom fan theory when one need only look to the games to see that from Day 1, the ghost of Cubone's mother has always been a Marowak? If we're throwing crazy theories around, here's mine: the Safari Zone doesn't conserve shit. The Pokémon available in limited quantities in Gen I and Gen III are limited because they ran fled the region to avoid capture by the Kanto Safari Zone's vile poachers, or were brought to near-extinction in order to artificially increase the value of the species they did capture. The ecology of both Kanto and Johto are still recovering by the time of Gen II and Gen IV even after the Safari Zone was shut down by law enforcement and Safari Warden Baba hiding in Johto ready to start his business all over again. In the Let's Go! continuity, however, Baba was caught earlier before his culling could begin - leading to the Kanto starters, Eevee line, Tyrogue line (or rather, Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan), Mr. Mime, Snorlax, and others being free to roam the wild (albeit still pretty rare) after they finished teabagging Baba's corpse after he got the chair.

    • @BabusGameRoom
      @BabusGameRoom 3 дня назад

      That's a great point regarding the Team Rocket/Mewtwo connection! I agree with Porygon too -- it's likely a Silph creation that Team Rocket was able to mass produce (or at least sell). Regarding the starters, I think my biggest take-away is that I have to play Legends: Arceus! haha I think Marowak being Cubone's mother isn't necessarily a hole in that fan theory...Pokemon are known to breed quickly, and we could have generations of Kangaskhan being slaughtered! haha I definitely see the logic behind the Safari Zone being created artificially by poachers, though! For being a criminal/unethical organization though, their prices are pretty low. Especially when they're handing out so many Safari Balls for only 500 PokeYen! That's the price of 2.5 Pokeballs...or maybe Pokeballs themselves just have a huge markup?

  • @michaelmario299
    @michaelmario299 7 дней назад

    Let's be honest: you can't find the Kanto starters, Eevee, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Lapras, Mr. Mime, Jynx and Farfetch'd (with some exceptions), and the Pokémon that can only be found in the Kanto Safari Zone in Gens I and III can't normally be caught in the wild by the player gameplay purposes; and besides the starters (and version-exclusive Pokémon), these mechanics have been downplayed or non-existent in recent titles. Despite being an alternate continuity, one could make the case for the Let's Go! games being an honest reflection of how rare the Pokémon are in the wild in modern terms as besides it being possible to capture multiple legendary birds, Pokémon availability reflects more modern trends.

    • @BabusGameRoom
      @BabusGameRoom 3 дня назад

      Generally, it's not normal to be able to catch multiples of the "current game's" legendaries in the modern games...and even though the Legendary Birds are old by now, they were "the current legendaries" in Let's Go...so I think they even break their own rules there! haha

    The flaw I see in the idea that Rocket messed with Pokeballs, keeping friendship locked below the threshold is that at the end of the game Oak points out that Red treated his Pokemon well, it's this bond that they shared that allowed them to overcome Blue and his team. That feels very cheapened if it turns out that Red's Pokemon were only... Moderately happy with Red.

    • @BabusGameRoom
      @BabusGameRoom 3 дня назад

      That's fair! On the other hand, Red technically got his Pokemon as happy as possible, as far as Professor Oak knows! ...also, Professor Oak could've just been talking up the player and chastising his grandson...

    • @WolforNuva
      @WolforNuva 3 дня назад

      @@BabusGameRoom Well Oak should still know that happier Pokemon are possible; he has contact with other regions, and presumably Rocket hasn't been tampering with Pokeballs for long enough to outlive Oak's memory, or any studies on the disappearance of Crobat in the past X years. I'd admit he could have been using Red as a lesson for his grandson, since even with happiness capped at a point, Red still treated them better than Blue did, so the gap should still be a measurable difference. But I still find it very unsatisfying to think that all of Red's pokemon were just kinda friendly with him, rather than the close bonds that the game implies. So not presenting some smoking gun against the theory, just explaining why I'm not going to accept it as my own headcannon (still was an interesting take I hadn't heard before).

      @@WolforNuva Pokemon made so much more sense when Gen 1 felt like Pokemon were being "discovered"...now it seems like Pokemon and everything about them have always been known, which makes the older games make 0 sense...especially Gen 1 and 2! haha I do think Professor Oak was just being nice, especially considering that Blue keeps his team the same throughout the game. Levelling them up, winning important battles...unless he was letting them faint all the time, they'd probably be just as happy as an average Red's team (who may have been mixing up his team more than Blue did). I can definitely get the appeal of going with the idea that Red is the better trainer due to his bond with his Pokemon...even today, reading those lines after beating the Elite Four warm my heart in a nostalgic way. So I WANT it to be true. But flattery towards Red and admonishing Blue do seem plausible to me, haha Still, you've brought up a great point which I hadn't considered before!

      @@BabusGameRoom Yeah without a doubt the first two games were made with a very different world in mind than the Pokemon world we ended up with. • @MrWhitman

    I disagree with the slugma thing. The idea that they'd be BLOWN all the way there is ludicrous. What I think happened is that the tectonic fault line that was connected to Cinnabar's volcano ran through the Cycling Road. Since the main pressure release was through the volcano itself it didn't cause too much trouble along Cycling Road, but it DID disturb the slugma enough to come to the surface. You might remember that Cycling Road is where you find ponyta which, according to Pokémon Snap are also attracted to volcanic areas. So you probably had some seismic activity in the area just along the coast, but it veered off into the ocean rather than more inland.

    • @BabusGameRoom
      @BabusGameRoom 3 дня назад

      A volcano's power is quite significant -- I think it even affected the Seafoam Islands, didn't it? Cycling Road might actually be geographically closer than the Seafoam Islands, but I haven't measured it. I could definitely get behind the idea of a fault line opening under Cycling Road...IIRC, it's explicitly over water, rather than on land, so chalking it up to underwater seismic/volcanic activity makes a lot of sense!

So it would be the most logical thing that the babies were hidden there. It is common for animals to hide their young where predators would have a hard time getting to or finding. I have a theory for Aerodactyl. What if Aerodactyl is native to Kalos? Accroding to the ganes Aerodactyl’s mega evolution is how it actually looked like before going extinct. So, that means that there’s some DNA/energy lost from the original pokemon when reviving it, but somehow that DNA/energy is preserved through the mega-stone, which can only be found in Kalos. Hoenn just happens to be close to Kalos and mega stones are imported into Alola

    There's nothing selling me on any of team rocket stuff. Slugma appearing after the eruption is solid. Murkrow could have migrated from the sinnoh region where it evolved. Hold item evolved pokemon are simple no one thought to try it. They were probably were accidentally discovered, especially the trade ones. Houndour could've just very rare and and hard to notice or approach. Even in game they have a very low encounter rate. Happiness pokemon excluding Golbat were all very rare pokemon. Golbat could have been hard to bond with and were possibly stigmatized because team rocket liked using them. I do wonder if team rocket engineered dark type specifically to counter Mewtwo.

    • @BabusGameRoom
      @BabusGameRoom 3 дня назад

      Murkrow could definitely have migrated! However, there's nothing in the games to suggest that they came from elsewhere. As for the hold items, it's true that it's unlikely that anyone tried to put a Metal Coat on an Onix or Scizor, but Poliwhirl caught in Gen 2's Kanto can hold King's Rocks, and they're catchable in the same spots in Kanto as they are in Gen 1...so then it becomes a game of numbers that suggests that SOME player SOMEWHERE should have traded a Poliwhirl holding a King's Rock in Gen 1...but obviously that didn't happen. "They didn't exist in Gen 1" isn't a satisfying enough answer to me! haha And I'm telling you -- Eggbeam and Batty were definitely very happy Pokemon on our teams! haha There's definitely a lot of leaps of logic that go into the Team Rocket theory, but to me, that's more compelling than the handwaves that Game Freak seems to want us to believe, haha
