Oh man, what a perfect time to take this detour! I'm so glad you managed to squeeze this in, especially as a New Year greeting! I have so many reminiscences and feelings after this video. First, the embarrassing things: (1) I used to be absolutely convinced that the Ho-Oh in episode 1 of the anime was just a Fearow, and that Ash just thought it was legendary because he was so inexperienced, and (2) I thought, until today, that the down+B thing was real. Now that you mention it though, I do also remember hearing about pressing A having a similar effect, so I should have thought more deeply about it! About Kadabra card production being banned because of Uri Geller's identity theft accusation, the issue wasn't simply that Kadabra was a spoon-bending psychic--it's also because Kadabra's Japanese name, Yungerā, is clearly based on that of Geller! This follows the pattern of Abra and Alakazam being named after, respectively, Edgar Cayce (whom I would never have known of, if not for Pokemon) and Harry Houdini. I love your explanation for the Old Man, the idea being that you're "ready to catch Pokemon"! I never thought of coming up with an in-universe explanation for why he is the gateway to the glitch Pokemon, but I'm going to use that one now. Thank you! And yes, I agree that the level 128 Magikarp was an amazing coincidence, being as it is a fish, thus something you might actually find on the beach, and the most disappointing one at that... only to come back with a terrifically high-level Splash! MissingNo. and 'M are actually very different Pokemon, by the way, as far as the game's internal data is concerned! They end up manifesting in very similar ways, though one important difference is that MissingNo. can appear at a wide variety of levels, while 'M will be, I'm pretty sure, always level 0. Also, fun and rather useless facts: MissingNo. can evolve into Kangaskhan and (more rarely) Clefable, and can also learn Pound, but 'M can't do any of those extremely helpful things, sad to say. MissingNo. is still "a Pokemon," kind of, though one without its data filled in, while 'M is the twisting nether, the absolute absence of all that is. As for other rumours, I remember being told that if you revisit the house of the guy in the Safari Zone who gives you Surf after you've collected all five HMs, he'll be so impressed with your collection that he both/either gives you a "Mega Cut" HM that lets you cut through literally any tile in the game, and/or (2) lets you into the secret "Dragon Cave" area where you can catch a bunch of Dragonites, Charizards, and Gyaradoi (or some combination like that, and doubtless also a few that aren't real). I excitedly tested it, but... sadly, it appears to be false. Make sure that Safia knows that the S.S. Anne's truck is real, by the way, immobile as it is! It is a very important piece of the world. And yes, I'd love to be able to watch at least some of your finale stream! Do let me know when it will be, and I'll try my best to be there. You're almost there, I feel so vicariously proud!
Re: Ho-oh...I think I thought that too. Confession -- My first master ball was thrown at a Fearow, and I think the first episode played a role in that! lol I genuinely believed down+b was a thing too, but someone told me it was up+a and laughed at me. We went to the internet, and even back then, based our arguments off of how many people we found saying what we want to say! lol Thanks for that bit of trivia about the Abra-line names! I never would've known that, especially since Bulbapedia is apparently trying to make the romanizations as difficult to parse (as references) as possible! Kadabra could easily be romanized as "Yungerā" which is a little closer, and Alakazam's as "Hoodin" which would've given it away. What an odd choice to use F instead of H, knowing the inspiration for the name...it's amazing they didn't romanize Abra's name as "Keshi" given their track record...haha Re: The old man glitch...him allowing you access because you're ready to catch high level Pokemon is something that I came up with on the spot, believe it or not! haha But yeah, this is my new go-to explanation! Re: Magikarp...Part of me was hoping that she'd just get angry and leave after that, and never see MissingNo...but I'm glad she found one! I feel like I "know" that MissingNo and M are different Pokemon, but I don't understand the difference well enough to explain it (especially without Bulbapedia handy)...and as kids, they were all just "MissingNo" to me anyways! haha I didn't consider the fact that MissingNo is more of a Pokemon and M is kind of nothing though, that's really interesting! Hmm....I think I'm going to get Safia to hunt down Mega-Cut after she beats the game. I'll tell her that's part of the reward (allegedly). I still never told her about cutting the grass! haha I actually tried to reproduce a glitch to get to the SS Anne truck from memory, and just didn't want to look it up then and there (adds to the fun when it's not perfect anyways, haha). I think I'll be able to show her the truck later! Re: Stream, we're strongly leaning towards Jan 22 and 23 (Sat/Sun) at 1pm EST (UTC-5). It's 2 days in case Safia can't do it on the first day and needs to grind a bit, haha Hope you can make it!
@@BabusGameRoom Oh wow yeah, the Bulbapedia transliterations of Kadabra and Alazkazam's names are super weird! It's like they tried to go halfway between representing what the names "actually" mean and representing the Japanese sounds, and they ended up doing neither. The F in "Foodin" is because the Japanese sound there is somewhere between an H and an F, and it is usually transliterated as F (in names like Fuji or Fukushima), but then the double O after it makes no sense at all... in any case, glad to be of help! And haha yeah, MissingNo and 'M were definitely the same thing for me as a kid too--learning about their differences is entirely a product of adulthood reflections on a childhood love. As kids I think our minds were generally blown enough by there being even a single glitch Pokemon that there wasn't really room for more. Oh yeah, I also discovered weirdly late in life that it's possible to cut long grass with HM01! I guess it's just something that no one in the game ever tells you, and so a lot of us just never thought to try it, because why would we? But I think discovering that it was possible was part of what may have started the Mega-Cut rumour, at least if I'm not getting my memories jumbled. I think it's absolutely hilarious that Safia got a Magikarp here! :D She'll see the famous mystery truck later, I hope. I never did this myself, so I'm not sure why exactly it didn't work, but I *think* you have to walk in front of the sailor from the left, save+reset *immediately* and use Surf while still facing right. I don't know why Safia is facing down here after resetting. My rumor contribution was the one where a Lickitung evolves into Luigi (or Yoshi) while holding the Gameboy upside down. I never heard anything about Dragonite and the evolution stones etc. That one was news to me, but it sounds somewhat plausible! It's very nice that she now has the whole set of magical birds, and even finally an Aerodactyl, too! If you think about it, Aerodactyl could be the fourth legendary bird. I just double-checked the Missingno calculator/tab;e...and apparently I was wrong -- SAFIA would spawn Magikarps and Golducks, but would also spawn an M because of the null character 2 spaces after her name ends. How weird! For CHRIS, the S gets me Missingno, and since it's a 5-letter name, I can also encounter M. Does the "having coffee" move have any other weird glitches? Does MissingWhiskers learn the move twice at Level 12? So many mysteries... I think it's just my English-speaking bias that wants words related to 4 to have a q that makes Aeroquatro look better to me, haha
I forgot I wrote that. It doesn't deserve a reply, haha. One of those 'what am I writing? :S ' type of comments. And this is probably another. MissingWhiskers does indeed learn the move twice at level 12, but only when you get the super secret tm from a vending machine after giving the OLD MAN the best cup of coffee he has had in his life. This can be acquired from the foreign scientist in Cinnabon Island when you only have a Koffing in your party. I don't know why it works but it's so mysterious! The moves look identical but the first one makes you write silly youtube comments and the second makes your Pokémon hyper and crit all the time! Very mysterious! Anyhooow, how about that stream today? I wouldn't miss it! It's the day we all have been waiting for! :)

I'm sure you know already, but the livestream will be tomorrow (Jan 22) at 1:00pm EST (UTC -5) over at www.twitch.tv/babusgameroom !
Hope you can make it =)
Also -- I read this comment, but forgot to reply! I think RUclips doesn't keep records of "non-replied" replies. I gotta' keep that in mind.
@@M1sterWhiskers Perhaps I'll need to tell Safia of this new rumour...
Really glad you could make it to our streams this weekend! Hope you enjoyed them =D
