Hi mate, after years of wanting a go on a cb i finally bought one a few months ago ready to get back onto a track again after nearly 10 years out! Just wondering is there any particular reason why a lot of lads remove the vacuum hose on the fuel tank?? Thanks and good work on the videos they help a lot 👌
@@adamwallis2140 ha ha welcome to the dark side 😀 seriously though they are really fun hopefully you’ll really enjoy it. They do take a bit of getting used to, especially if you’ve ever ridden something faster and more sporty. It will feel quite crap at first. Then you realise how fast you can actually push these bikes, especially when you see somebody fast come past you. So the only reason people remove the vacuum hose, is just to remove some of the excess hoses that are on the bike that are unnecessary. you don’t really need to remove it, although the taps are prone to leaking just with them being so old. So it’s just one less thing to go wrong at a track day, so I removed all of the internal diaphragm and remove the hose. It does mean without the vacuum the hose could leak and flood the engine, so that’s why I put the quick release fuel connection on there as well.
@SuggyRacing thanks for the reply much appreciated, need to do a few jobs on the bike first then you never know I might bump into you some day. Good luck with the racing this year, thanks again ✊️
@@adamwallis2140 No worries. Hope you manage to get it set up ok. Yeah hopefully ill be at the tracks when we get the nice weather again. 👍

Hi! So nice bike, i have the same, same color black beast. Could you please tell me what is the size of that exhaust? 300mm/370mm?
@@fotobudka360x Hi. I'm not sure of the exact length of it, I sold the bike last month. I would guess it's closer to 370mm. 👍
I have the same road bike with Rossi race number R 46 ***
Hi. Have you found an Aim Solo or similar a good investment for getting faster laps? Thanks
@@willkearney635 yeah i have a starlane laptimer on the bike now. It is handy for test days to see how you are doing. To be honest on race weekends you use the transponder for times, and that does the job. I never really bother timing on track days. They get addictive when you start seeing faster times on the dash when riding 😂
@SuggyRacing 😁..I know what you mean ..had a blade at Andalusia last year with a transponder fitted..for a finish I was a pest to the guy on the laptop !!!..I think I will make a purchase..seems like a must have for test days..many thanks ..regards Will
@ ha ha. Yeah its nice seeing improvement isnt it. Yeah they are definitely handy to have. They hold their value too. 👍
@SuggyRacing Will have to do some homework on which make and model ! But if you recommend the Starlane ( Stealth?) Thats good enough for me! Ty
@ yeah its the stealth GPS 4 that i have. Loads use those or the aim solo units. The stealth needs go be hard wired to the bike, whereas the solo is battery powered. So it is easier to use for definite. But i like the fact there's no messing about charging batteries with the stealth. One less thing to forget. Both are pretty much the same the way they work.

Great content Suggy! In my view, it's the best Honda's 90's engine. Got my 2002 model since 2015. Greetings from Brazil and happy new year!
@@eletronicagomes4427 Hi. Yeah they are great bikes. We managed to get 63.6hp out this engine 😊 BCR Performance did an amazing job. Are these bikes popular in Brazil?
I saw your video tuning this motor up and achieving an impressive power. And yeah, CB500 Twin is very popular here in Brazil (assembled here using PC26 motor and Brembo's brake system, from 1997 to 2005). People here call this bike as 'helicopter' when using a racing exhaust system 😂😂😂 @@SuggyRacing
@ ha ha yeah i can see why it gets that name, it is a very distinctive sound! I do love these bikes for how simple they are
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Started at a 1:07. What have you managed to get that to on your latest Brands visit ? Curious 🤘🏻
@@willkearney635 I've not been back since then, its a very long drive for me to Branda Hatch. I managed to do 59 sec laps so i would 'hope' now i would get better than that if i went back.
@SuggyRacing hope to be starting my CB journey next year . Find your videos very helpful mate . Much appreciated 🙌🏼
@willkearney635 Yeah its mega fun! It's quite hard to get used to the pace of racing with others who have done it before. While these bikes aren't fast, they are all the same speed, so it's very competitive! Glad the videos help and thanks for the support 👍

Cheers. Its just the old go pro heros, the small square ones. I use them as they are almost bullet proof. I have one on the front under the number board and one mounted to the rear frame, facing backwards. Always captures amazing footage
@SuggyRacing thanks , very helpful 👍🏼
thanks for showing steering bearings replacement.
@@marekc391 No worries. Its probably the worst job, along with swingarm bearings. The easiest way is to weld directly onto the bearing race, and the heat from the weld shrinks the race, it falls out easily after that
Great work, I like the level of care you put 👍
@@MyZxcvb12 Thank you. Yeah a lot went into the making of the engine. Ben always does a mega job 😎
That engine is a fraction of the size of a cars engine and looks like it takes a fraction of thw time to take apart. Why is it then that motorcycle repair shops charge more per hour than car dealerships.
@@iannathanson6014 I know what you mean. I guess its down to the fact there are more cars on the road, more garages in competition for the work? 🤷♂️ I personally hate working on cars, bikes are far more enjoyable 😀

Can you put a turbo boost on that? Or, on a 2016 cb500? Haha.

You have done an amazing job of your bike, you must be very proud,I was very impressed with Bens work at BCR Performance also P3Tuning for extracting all that power out of it,can,t wait for the next video, congrats Mark.
@@russelljones-d4h Thanks mate appreciate the time taken to drop us a comment. Yeah I'm pretty happy with it. The thing is everyone is used to hearing about these monster superbikes that can do 200hp+ nowadays, so 63hp seems pathetic in comparison, but its all relative to the bike and engine isn't it. For a 2000 bike twin cylinder, it's not bad really 😀 Yeah the guys did a mega job with it all. Really happy and i learned loads by doing it with them. Ben said there's loads more you can do with these too. You never know, we may do a V2 in the future with the engine 😁👍
What a beautiful little engine. And a pleasure to watch an expert putting it back together with a minimum of effort, knowing exactly what he's doing and and doing it so quickly. Do you ever check the exhaust port temps? Most manufacturers run significantly richer than optimum at higher rpm (at full load) to protect the cylinder head from port collapse and valve damage. Did you know with the implementation of EU7 and the outlawing of component protection (running rich at higher rpm to cool exhaust valves and ports could lead to a significant drop in power output of most petrol engines. BMW have patented a system to inject water to provide the necessary cooling required for engine durability as an alternative to using excess fuel.
Very interesting video, you guys obviously know your stuff when it comes to these engines. The only thing I would do is lube the bores with engine oil not assembly lube, the rings are designed to cut through engine oil not sticky lube. I really doubt it would make any difference in the real world though whatever lube you used on the bores. Great vid!
@@sidecarbod1441 Hey. Thanks for the comment. Yeah we used assembly lube as the engine was going to be sat a while after being built and it helps with it being slightly thicker. 👍 Glad you like the video 😎
hi, question regarding tires, you used new fresh set? asking because planning to start racing local SSP300 in 2025 and bought second set of wheels with used pirellis rain which are 4 years old but still in good condition and idk what to expect from them 😅
@@cnkmoto The tyres were new that year, but i had used them in a track day before. So weren't fresh but not old. I would say you would be ok, as long as the tread isn't worn away too much. You need a lot tread in the rain to shift the water.
yea, tread is fine, almost new. well, we’ll see, still better than not having any rains 😁
@ Yeah they should be fine. I swear all the talk about tyre age is to get us to buy new ones all the time. As long as they were stored ok, they'll be alright👍
dont bin it
Ha ha i know! That's my concern too 😂
I wonder what hp is achievable from a modern fuel injected CB500 ?, They're 47hp stock.
I'd imagine they would be similar but probably run a lot smoother and easier to set up on the dyno, with it being injection. 👍

@@tonybyrne7573 You mean to put it back on? I probably just didn't show it in the video, but its definitely on there 😁👍 yeah Ben has built and modified so many of these engines.
If you look carefully, you will see the cam chain in the middle of the crank at 7:04
Amazing work, altough i wonder, why not start with a gpz 500s? They already make 60 hp.

Hello ! Does the air filter match with the original carburetor ? Is it a K&N ? 0:43 Where did you bought it ? Thank's a lot ! I love my CB but I'm little bit jealous of yours. Well done !
@@11Hirako Hi. This K&N filter had to be adapted to make it fit the carbs. It's too large for the original CB500 carbs, mine are from 900rr fireblade. The filter needed to be cut and reshaped to suit. There's a lot of work that I did on the bike, making custom bits to make it work. I'm sure there are others out there that may fit. I know DNA filters can make one to whatever size you need.
Thank you very much !
Is it still 471cc? if so 63.6bhp equates to 135bhp/L which is not bad, a lot of standard bikes makes this sort of power and super bikes would be berated if they only made 135BHP/L. Still quite a mild tune which would make a decent road engine.
@@MrTench8 The bottom end is all standard on the bike. All we did was top end, cylinder head work, cams and flywheel. Yeah it's a light tune, there's loads more Ben could do with it to add more. The CB is pretty under powered for a bike as standard. It is old I suppose and was only meant for delivering pizza 🍕 🤣
its at whell at crsnk be 70+ 👌🏻 so more like 140+ bhp/L
This cb500 version has 499cc, only the newer versions have smaller engines than that. And it is a two cylinder - engine. You can't really compare that power/displacement level to one of a 4 cylinder- superbike. Better compare it to an MT-7 or something like that.
