the thing is I don't think Dany even wants to go rule Westeros, she wants the "house with the red door" but Westeros has always been presented to her as Viserys' trauma; with people fighting to wipe out her family and take everything. She doesn't even have a personal attachment to the land, as taking Westeros feels like a duty/obligation to her; maybe from a need to avenge misery's and her mother, Dany thinks she's infertile so she can't even leave behind a legacy so her goal isn't to re-establish the dynasty like so many Dany-haters are suggesting. She is indifferent about the people of Westeros and is more concerned with the plights of the slaves in essos. In Westeros, she would be just another monarch maintaining peace between the great houses and just drinking/eating her days away (like Robert during his reign, as there was no succession wars). However, when Dany looks at essos, she sees herself as a person capable of amassing great power and feels like she should put it to good use: “Why do the Gods make kings and queens if not to protect the ones who can't protect themselves?”. Dany knows she can do the most good in Essos and is not really planning out a dynasty but rather internally compromising what she can do within 1-life time, she thinks she's infertile so she has to finish what she started in her life-time. Book Dany would probably be happy to know she even has family, she would probably be ok with him being king or would make him her sole heir, if she were the one to take back the throne by right of conquest. a lot of the fans feels threatened by a girls holding so much power and not f**king it up to the same extent their favourite leads are. this is not a stab at other characters but Dany, trying to bring stability to the region, is capable of thing long-term (albeit in a relatively safe environment). the like of stannic and Jon are more geared towards instant gratification (jon) or want to be revered/acknowleded (stannis). We all know stannis is a messy human being: f**king around with shadow demons, executing his own men and burning his own kid (the latter has not yet happened in the books, but grrm has all but confirmed it) Jon however, d*ed in the books, NOT cause his men secretly hated him, Jon sent the ones who were bothered by him away to man other castles on the wall. Jon was K*lled cause he banckrupted the nights-watch and gave long-term shelter to stannis (making kings-landing think the nights-watch took stannis' side when they're supposed to be impartial --> so any future supplies from the crown would be cur off ,leaving them stranded). Jon also brought in an overwhelming number of wildlings, which was scary to the few men holding castle-black but they sucked it up IN HOPES the wildlings (their long-term enemy for thousands for thousands of years), won't back-stab them and will also be willing to help fight against the others. Lastly, Jon was rallying up wildlings to go take winterfell for him/stannis. the lord commander shouldn't do this kind of stuff. Him (& his men's) place is on the wall and not conquering and pillaging with the continents long-standing enemy. There have been almost 1000 lord commanders (1000 different generations of leaders) spanning MANY THOUSANDS OF YEARS and Jon has stained/tarnished what these men were trying to uphold for all these years within the span of a few months. Jon did what he did based on good intentions but MANY have died/punished for less in this story. When compared to this level of rule-breaking and debauchery, Dany ending a few slave lords and threatening her enemies with nuclear (dragon) as a deterrence is not that evil. Even today we have mutually assured destruction as a way to maintain peace, Dany flexing her muscle isn't all that bad. Also, lets not open the can of worms that is Aerys is probably not genetically mad but was driven mad from being held in solitary confinement for 6 MONTHS, the the argument about the Targaryen taint is unfounded; a lot of them were selfish and cruel and over indulgent but not mad (the only mad one I can think of was "baelor the blessed" but he was loved by the people, even though he was delusional)

As phenomenal as the early seasons are GoT deserves a reboot starting at the mid series and showrunners who respect the fans and author.

I can forgive not having Sara since it was Mushroom who told of her existence. But, speaking of Mushroom, it is troublesome we seem to be losing some characters like him and Nettles apparently. If they do Alys justice and give us Daeron and the 3 major dragonseeds, I can grant some leeway.

If we had gotten Nettles and Daeron this season I could've easily overlooked not having Sara Snow, but now excluding her is part of the pattern. From the rumors I've heard we don't even see much of Cregan the entire season.

What grates on me the most is the sneering condescension from some people that any of us who liked Dany are somehow terrible people who would have supported Hitler. All because we hate what was done to the character. Dany being the villain was not foreshadowed, she was always chaotic neutral- a dragon. Magical, beautiful, loving, loyal, but also dangerous, destructive, wild and powerful. Ugh I’m still mad.

One of the things I fell in love with in the early seasons was that the world of Westeros was raw, real and unforgiving. Nobody felt safe and nobody had plot armour.

So much effort and stupidity to try to discredit Otto. "Comparaison n'est pas raison" as we say in France. That is to say, we can only compare what is comparable. The problem with this video is that it stupidly compares Otto and Tywin without taking into account the context in which they operate. Tywin has fifty thousand swords behind him, and at the time of the War of the Five Kings, the Crown is in debt to him. This gives him a power that Otto Hightower cannot possess. Certainly, Otto comes from a very rich and very powerful house, which can easily muster twenty thousand men on the battlefield on its own, making it the most powerful house in Westeros. But Otto is not the lord. Tywin lives in a world where dragons are supposedly extinct, so the military and financial power of his house gives him a huge advantage over anyone in Westeros. This is not the case for Otto, faced with adversaries who possess the equivalent of an atomic bomb. He must act taking this into account, and the fragility of his position. An example clearly shows that the video is totally incriminating and disconcertingly dishonest : There is indeed a major contradiction. On one hand, the video discusses killing Rhaenyra as a stupid idea, but on the other it insists that Otto should have killed Daemon, "like Tywin would have done." Except that directly attacking Viserys' family while he was alive would have been a completely absurd idea. When Tywin holds the Red Wedding, his grandson is on the throne. Do you think Tywin would have had a Targaryen murdered when he was just the Hand of Aerys ? The reason Otto wants to go after Rhaenyra at this time is because the king is no longer there to protect her. Then the video comes to its most absurd point: "Otto was wrong because Aegon is not worthy of the throne"... Of course, and as everyone knows, Joffrey was, on the contrary, a perfect choice for Tywin Lannister. Neither Otto nor Tywin chose their grandsons. And if I really had to choose between Aegon and Joffrey, I would say that Aegon has a dragon, the courage to face his enemies himself, and that while he may not be brilliant, he is far from be as stupid as Joffrey.

The Greens cannot accept that Rhaenyra comes before Aegon. Would Alicent's children be safe with Rhaenyra on the throne? I very much doubt it, but that's not even the main question. The problem is that Alicent and her children would become Rhaenyra's hostages, forever dependent on the goodwill of the new queen and her Strong boys. When a great house approaches the royal family, it is because it hopes to benefit. The day Alicent married Viserys, the Hightowers fully entered the game of thrones, and then it was far too late to turn back. They would have disowned themselves by agreeing to see Aegon's rights trampled by Rhaenyra for Viserys's decision, whether one approves of it or not, is a distinct insult to his sons, to his wife, and to House Hightower. No one accepts being spat on without reacting. It would have been exactly the same if the Velaryons or anyone else had found themselves in the same situation. Once again, "when you play the game of thrones, you win or you die, there is no middle ground."

Everone's a critic, think it could have been done "better" and bitch about bits being either missed out from the books or reinterpreted? It was entertainment - good series and it had to finish with a wrap up of all the main charaters. Accept what was screened and move on.

God it's so refreshing to see someone who actually acknowledges Rhaenyra was the rightful heir and if the greens just didn't fucking usurp her throne the war could have been avoided because there was no way she would put Alicent's children to the sword. I'm so tired of people saying there is no right side, and that it was complicated. I have sympathy for the greens, and I understand their motives, but they were in the wrong!! The king's wish does override tradition and Rhaenyra is just a better fucking ruler than Aegon the rapist.

Dumb & Dumber should have been run out of Hollywood on a rail and stuck bagging groceries for the rest of their lives (no shade to people who bag groceries for reasons other than fucking up the most iconic show in TV history). To say that what they did to GOT was "biting the hand that feeds" them is the understatement of the century. The sheer arrogance of abandoning the project that made their entire careers and put them on the map.

Great analysis - it is disappointing to say the least, it raises the question which i think is even self applicable, is anything owed (if ever) to the fans. My humble opinion is 'no' - creative differences, personal situation, aspirations, getting tired of said work - the list goes on and on - and i don't think a writter should suspend anyone or many of these things necessarily for the happiness/sake of the fans. Now - you would hope a strong consistent finish out of respect for your work product and mutual admiration for the crew's and actor's hard work would be enough, but it is ok if it isnt. Indeed they created an amazing series with huge opportunities for emotional payoff - they just didnt, as many of us at times fail to do so, under deliver

I think the worst part was how leaks were released before the ending and people thought it was made up but oh boy. It was true, and you’ll think for such a major event you’ll try to keep the ending under wraps. But like you said, they wanted out for something else and threw away what made them gain momentum in this awful industry 😒

Bran ending up on the throne I think will happen in the books too, Martin is heavily inspired by I, Claudius, where the unlikely heir with a disability ends up on the throne. Dany will probably go mad in the books as well, but it will be told properly through an entire book, not rushed. All in all the events of the show were probably not too far from where things will end up in the books, but they needed three, if not four more seasons to tell these stories properly. Instead they rushed through it all so they could make Star Wars.

In retrospect.........I think George should have not bothered with the Bravvos arc, had Arya and the Hound arc quickly join up with Sansa and Lady Stoneheart, had Tyron quickly get to Dany, no Robert Strong/Mountain return (screw Clegangebowl) and no Dany returning to the Dothraki Sea (can't have the Dothraki charge the field if they dont come over with Dany). Heck......there are things you can do for the story to create a scenario where Dany and Tyrion go straight from Essos to White Harbor rather than Kings Landing/Dragonstone first. Heres an alternate timeline then........George completes Winds of Winter (and makes it the last book) in 2017, with the last season of the show (season 7) coming out in 2018. As for me........i decided to just kinda fuse multiple fan theories from a bunch of great fan theorists out there together, and write a fan fic where George decides to just write a blog post where he says what the plot points for the last books will be. Then printed it, stabled it, and put it on my shelf next to the books. Created some nice perspective. Helped me both imagine changes to the show I would have made.....AND some scenes I pretend happen during and after the series we got.

At this point, I would honestly be ok with George deciding to make a blog post outlying what events happen and how the last two books end (I wrote a fan fic of this hypothetical blog post. Posted it on a couple of the major fan fiction websites, and even printed and stapled it. Stuck it on my shelf right next to my copies of the books :)) Was wondering recently what the timeline could have looked like with no Bravvos arc, Arya and the Hound meeting up with Sansa, Nymeria and her wolfpack, and Lady Stoneheart, Tyrion getting to Dany faster, no Young Griff, Varys dying in Kings Landing, no Dany returning to the Dothraki Sea, and no Robert Strong. Heck, how about this: Winds of Winter (the last book in this scenario) is published in 2017, and season 7, the last season of the show, is released in 2018.

I was really rooting for Jaime to actually kill Cersei.. or Arya killed Jaime and disguised herself as Jaime to assassinate Cersei.
