Hard UNduro
Австралия
Добавлен 8 сен 2023
G'day, Al and Furz here. We are two weekend warriors - installing, riding and testing all the parts that will get us out and riding a little easier, or for a little longer. This is Hard UNduro because we are as UNduro as it gets. We have both been riding dirt bikes for over 20 years and have been tinkering with them throughout. We are not pro riders, nor mechanics. This channel is our attempt to provide videos that we have searched for ourselves, including installing aftermarket parts, reviewing and testing some of our favourite additions to dirt bikes, and in large part our journey with a 2024 Beta Xtrainer 300. If you are like us, then come along for the ride and we hope you learn something, or at least you come and take the piss out of us in the comments. We hope you too get out on your 'mental health machines' as often as we do!
Creek Trail of Doom: Did We Make It?
Today on Hard Unduro Furz and I take the dirt bikes on the Creek Trail of Doom. This will be the first big test for Furz brand new 2025 Husqvarna TE 300. This is a very technical and challenging ride for us two buffoons. Many bloopers occurred in the making of this video! Did we survive it?

2024 KTM 300 EXC - XCW Ride Review: How Does It Compare?
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.21 день назад
Today on Hard Unduro we test ride this 2024 KTM 300 EXC / XCW to back up last weeks 2025 Husqvarna TE300 review, to see how the two dirt bikes with largely the same components compare. For us, the biggest difference is in the rear swing arm with KTM long having the PDS (Progressive Damping System), over a linkage on most other bikes. We are not claiming that we are good enough the feel the diff...

Today on Hard Unduro we test ride Furz brand new 2025 Husqvarna TE 300, one of the first reviews available for this years model. This is also our first test of a TBI bike (throttle body Injection). The Husky TE300 has had a few updates for this year, with an incredible Brembo brake and clutch package, a change to the rear swingarm, and some more flex in the frame. We review this dirt bike today...

Today on Hard Unduro we test ride a Husqvarna FE 501 and our mate Richo rides the Beta Xtrainer 300 2-stroke for the first time. For most our our lives we have been 4-stoke riders owing everything from 250's to 450's, so it was a great chance to get on a modern 500 and see how far apart it is from a modern 2-stroke 300. This week on Hard Unduro, we dive into the unique relationship between our dirt bikes and mental health. Join us for a really tough ride, where it took most of the day to get out of our own heads, and for what we affectionately call our "mental health machines", to do their job. As average middle-aged guys who share the stresses of everyday life, we've long known how riding our dirt bikes can s...

Welcome our 2024 Beta Xtrainer 300
Well there goes the idea of using for a dual sport coming up this fall and I don’t want to get a larger tank I love the feel of the stock tank Have to use the trusty 97 xr650l with 30k miles 😁
Haha yep get the beast out and dust it off. Nothing will stop it. 💪💪🙏
Drop one gear
Yet to ride one of the new TBI KTM breed bikes but I love the feeling sitting on the Husky TE300 over the GasGas EC300 and the KTM EXC300. I been running TBI on my 21 GasGas EC300 since it was 10 hours old and love it. Thanks for reviewing the new 2025 model for us all.
Cheers your welcome. Totally agree, the TE feels a lot more comfortable in our opinion. Definately jump on a new 25 and see how it compares. So far loving it. Thanks for watching. 💪🙏🙏
My mate leant me his spare KTM 300 for weekend of enduro. I’d never ridden a dirt bike before in my life. I managed to just about keep up with them as a rank amateur. I appreciate all the advice you guys offer, but it’s really not that serious. If you can ride a bike, you can ride any bike. Just get whatever bike you like and go and enjoy yourself.
Most important thing is to get out and ride and have fun. Thanks for watching. 👍👍
@@HardUNduro exactly. I just re-read my message and I don’t feel like I made my point well. But you got it. Basically all I’m trying to say is any bike that gets you out on the trails and enjoying yourself is good enough.
Did you have to mod the airboot to fit at all or did it fit good on there
Hi yes you have to use the airport from I believe 2022 rr. They are cheap and can be ordered easily via beta.
What do you all think about the xtrainer vs the 200 rr?
Personally I haven't ridden the 200, I think it would have its place on a track or similar. I think for hard enduro I would choose the xtrrainer for the 300cc lug and smaller frame. Cheers
@@HardUNduro Thanks. I like both. Unfortunately the dealer where I live only has the 200 in stock. I will say I'm slightly concerned about the xtrainer dimensions and suspension given that I'm a larger rider in height and weight.
Same ol sheeit different year. Pay 13k for a bike ya gotta dump another 1200 on for a TSP kit and reflash to get it to run correctly. Gimme a carbureted Sherco any day of the week. Easy to jet, comes with all brembo as well but also comes with KYB, fan kit, gnarly pipe, solid exhaust, Axp skid plate. Will run like a top for years and you don’t have all the FI garbage to deal either.
Yep the prices aren't pleasant. Cheers
Yeeeeeah the Boyz 👍. On ya felllas!
Cheers. Thanks, for watching!
Can you register a xtrainer in aus or only rr
You can register both. Rec Reg needs less than full Reg You just need the correct lights, indicators etc. Ours are always registered Rec.
A would touch either there always falling apart brake are crap they sell a lot in the uk as well and then u see them online shortly after for sale or all the videos of people out on them have problems
So far so good. Time will tell. Cheers.
Resting up with ACL reconstruction and just discovered your channel.Bloody loving the good, honest “weekend warrior” reviews . Good stuff 🤘🏻
Thanks Alex, rest up mate and get back on a bike asap! Hope you recover asap. Thanks for watching. Cheers 🙏👍👍💪
Get elbow deep!
Haha. Way deep.
Another cracking video- keen to do this creek track
Thanks. It is a lot of fun!
On such a difficult trail would the xtrainer benefits out weight the husky’s interns of managing the bike or is the husky superior suspension the go?
The husky suspension overall is far superior but the xtrainer in the slow is actually really good and very plush. The xtrainer size is definately a benefit for hard enduro because it feels very light and smaller. But... the new tbi engine is amazing now so it would really be a very personal preference.
Great ride! Those trails look sketchy enough on video. I can only imagine what they are like from the seat of my bike!
G'day Patrick. Haha they were very sketchy. Its a shame cameras never show how steep something is, but it was a lot of fun!
That rear wheel slide must have been steep.
Way steeper than it looks on camera.
A good mate of mine cut those tracks & built those bridges.
He's a machine!! Its Hard enough riding them let alone cutting and making bridges haha. Cheers.
It’s awesome when people put time into the trails they ride.
Nothing like a creek trail criss cross to work out the demons. Never looks as Doomy on the cameras as when your on the seat I find. Thanks.
Haha so true. Cheers
Cracking but daunting ride with Furz first real test on his 2025 TE 300! Fun but challenging day!
Heard that starter missing after staling? Is that an issue?
No, basically just tried to start to soon before bendix could reseat. Happened rarely on all my last 3 ktm bikes. Cheers.
Love my '24 TE 300 pro, great bike. Did the TSP ERM + Med comp head and definitely made the bike a lot more fun to ride.
I have the TSP erm ready to go in the next few days. I'm excited to try it out. Cheers
Thank you for review, now an owner of TE250 carburetor version, plan to order te300 2025 this fall, look like a good bike. Now riding 13/52 sprockets, but wanna try 13/48
You will love it. I'm 100% loving the 13/47 and wouldn't change it. I used to run 13/52 on my 2020 ktm but now that would be too twitchy.
@@HardUNduro Yes, in my plans to change 13/52 for 13/47, I have a race on Saturday, considering the terrain (wet forest, quarries and slopes with loose sand) 13/52 is what I need - it climbs steep slopes well (my weight is 100 kg) - but after it I plan to change the rear sprocket to a smaller size - otherwise there is a jerk from 1st to 3rd gear, and no speed. By the way, in our local Husky owners' chat there is an opinion that the 2024 version is very raw (there are problems with the starter, the start button works unstable) - so hopes for 2025, and that the manufacturer has fixed everything. That's why I watched your video carefully and will continue watching the channel)

Thanks for confirming the hight of the ktm. I’m going the husky. I would go the Beta but I’m certain I’m an alpha. 😜 Well I’m 5”8 so I’m a pocket sized alpha.
Haha good choice. Go hard 💪
I was looking for a vid on how they perform. This not that vid. That said love your guys self depreciating attitude. Looks like you are helping heaps of guys. Keep up the good work 😊. Also watch Rich Larsen. Helped me no end.

Suspension is a must to be tuned to your weight and riding conditions. I have a 2024 300exc and Mpe suspension dialed mine in and its a different bike. Tsp- Erm tuning module also a must to tune the motor. Makes the bike lug great and puts the power to the ground. Happy Riding 🤙
100% agree. Out of interest , what suspension mods did you get? Cheers.
@HardUNduro I'm 86kg and 6'2. So they replaced the springs and revalved the front and rear to suit my riding gear weight. I ride trails and enduro stuff, and it handles awesome. So easy to adjust the settings while out on a ride, which is a plus 👌

Nice, thanks Shane. It's a great point and something it takes a lot of us a long time to learn how valuable having a bike tuned for your weight is. We always review them as standard settings because so many riders keep their bikes that way but try to keep highlighting how valuable some tuning can be!
Would you take the Husky te300i over the xtrainer at this point in. your riding?
Haven't ridden the TE300i only the new 2025 TE300. Having said that I think Al prefers the Xtrainer and Furz is loving the early stages of the 25 husky (pending some mods). Xtrainer is an awesome beast tho. Cheers
Love the rear facing camera angle!
Cheers Dave. Nice to add a few different perspectives.
What kind of grease you using for the spring, bearing area?
White lithium grease
PDS is really a single pivot in laymens terms…very simple yes but you need a great suspension tuner to get a nice compliant ride from that shock…
Its all laymans term here haha!
Another great opportunity to test a KTM 300 on the back of the TE300 last week. The main different being the PDS vs linkage. Let us know if you have a preferred rear suspension type and why. Both great bikes and fun to ride!
Nothing like a Saturay night ride video. Cheers blokes.
Hope you enjoy!
electric tractor
I’m old and slow running the ‘24 TE300. Mods are springs for my weight. I’m 230lbs geared up. 13/47 sprockets and TSP tune, tubeless with X31 front and VE33s rear . No burble with the tune. Very happy with my bike.
That's great, close to the same set-up. Did springs change how the bike felt or height at all? Did it remain comfortable or stiffen it up etc. Thanks 👍👍
@@HardUNduro swapped springs as soon as I got it home so can’t say but the suspension is definitely not stiff. Easy to set sag to factory spec. No complaints with suspension at all.
Wow third gear lugg up that hill was awesome. I have 22 KTM EXC 150 and it's light fun bike but no way I would try that.
Cheers. Yep its a lug beast that's for sure. 💪💪
Hi there. Also just got one of those. In the vid you are mentioning some re-jetting. Would you mind letting us know which jets you are using with it? Mine is really heavily boggy from mid to high end. Appreciate your help 😊 Thanks a lot in advance
Hi. Yes I used the exact suggested jets and settings as per the JD Jetting kit. I'm at sea level. Hopefully that helps. Also check for air leaks. Mine had one due to loose bolts just after the carb. Good luck cheers.
Thanks a lot. Unfortunately… cannot find the recommendations you mentioned especially for the motoes torque on the bike.
Tried to ask motoes also. They only refer to some vids like yours
When you get the JD Jetting kit it comes with paperwork which shows what jets to use for what bike/ elevation et . Did you get that?. I used 38/162 with 1 1/4 turns out air screw. Hope that is what you were after?
Lowering link is the best mod for weight distribution, way better feel, nimble steering, lower centre of gravity.
Thanks John..Can you recommend any brands. Cheers 👍
@@HardUNduro hope this helps, I did mod based on manufacturing a 50mm lowering link so can't recommend a specific brand. There are 2 lowering link kit options #1 fixed size and #2 adjustable. Option #1 is 2 x sizes 25mm and 50mm. #2 is adjustable from 25mm to 50mm.
Cheers
This makes no sense. It should be less nimble. It rakes the forks out more when you lower the back.
@@ashwillmot2051yes you'd need to test it for yourself to see because the theory is wrong, it is only a tiny percentage of rake angle change, and you can lower forks, so overall alignment level of bike is the same
Its great to see a video from someone else who rides sitting down. I'm 73, and standing is no longer an option. Neat bike. enjoy it. I run the stock gearing on my '21 KTM 300. I have a TSP head, but stock ECU. I had it re-sprung and dampening adjusted for my weight, since I weigh a lot more than the ideal rider.
Wow Pat your a Machine that's great. Yep totally agree if your out riding no matter sitting or standing that's great. Stock gearing is ok and very forgiving but it's a bit tall in first gear so I usually run a few more teeth in the rear. Cheer 👍🙏💪
Nice. Nothing wrong with sitting. When it’s steep, I’m on the seat haha.
Thanks, great install video!
Cheers. We still both use and love them! thanks for watching.
isn't the frame the same on the 24 vs 25 TE bikes?
No they changed it apparently and made it less stiff. What exactly that means I'm not 100% sure. Cheers.
@@HardUNduro Are sure? I as far as I can tell its just the xc bikes are getting the frame stiffness updates - and the enduro bikes remained the same for 25 - at least thats what the ktm/husq websites seem to suggest - If you know for sure yours is different to the 24 let me know and thanks!
The husky website isn't the best and filled with mistakes. The salesman also told me there was some minor changes but I'm no expert. A heap of other written reviews also talk about changes to the subframe. Would I notice? Probably not. CHeers
For a rider at your level I would say an Xtrainer is better. Once you graduate this Husky would be perfect...maybin in a year or two.
Yep the Xtrainer is a great bike. Almost sad I sold my 24 xtrainer. Lucky the new bikes a highly tunable with the tsp erm ,soft hard etc. Future video with showcase the erm. Cheers
It would be interesting to weigh the Husky vs the Xtrainer.
A way to weight the bikes would be nice. At this stage we don't have the means but if we do bikes will definitely be weighed.
Kool video, good to relate to. I personally just picked up the 23 Heritage TE300. Put 40 mins on it last weekend at mates property here in SA n what weapons. 67kg n full arm socket tearing machines. I come from 2T 80s to now the future n im so impressed on the tech rolling on these mud machines.💪🏼 I looked a lot into this whole TBI / TPI debate n honestly im on the fence with it all, ilike the classic explosive burst of powerband n TPI is similar feel to carbs with simply put smoother up n down fuel delivery, no DANGDANGDANG cluncking like my 09 husky wr300 i had 5yr ago. All in all ,👌🏼. Ohh braketec i felt at feather Weight not bad, no bite of a brembo but not bad. Cheers guys, nice luggabilty in those conditions. 🤜🏼🇦🇺💙🇸🇪🤛🏼
Totally agree 👍 . Honestly they are all amazing and as long as we're all out riding that's what matters. Every bike is tunable and can be made to ride how you like (balls out power band haha). We would love to see what the riding is like over there in SA. good tracks? Legend thanks. 👍👍👍💪🙏
Thanks for the review. Great channel have been watching since the 1st video, nice to see regular riders on the trail that I can relate to.
Thank you very much for the support and watching. There's definitely no egos here as you can see, just love getting out in the bush. Thanks again..legend 👍 💪 🙏🙏
I have a 20 KTM 300 XCW. I like to imagine panic revs are impossible They aren't, but I like how it goes where I want. Violent is probably the right word for it, but it's loads of fun a lot of the time. AS for the new TE, it seems like it likes to stall a bit. I'd definitely be curious to hear about the supposed idle fowling problem. I've warmed up my KTM by idling it and haven't had an issue after a little bit of pipe wringing, but I've heard tales of 24's fowling plugs after 2 minutes of idle. Please, keep us up to date on that. Upon two minutes of reading, panic rev is NOT the term for what I'm trying to describe, as I don't jump, but you probably know what I mean, giving a sharp splash of power to avert laying the bike down when you dive into a turn.
I've heard similar. I had a 20 xcw with tsp head and map and it was definitely more violent. So far no fouling issues and I idle warm up for at least 3 minutes. Its extremely hard to stall and havent had many issue other than human error. Will do a longer term review at some stage. Cheers
The plugs fowling in 23 were from XC models equivalent to the TX Husky. It was mainly from guys idling for too long at cold start. KTM put out a different map and that has been taken care of. Cheers!
Legend thanks for the info. Cheers
Hey guys, good vid. I have the 24 TE300 Pro..... so luckily I got the Brembo brakes and clutch, otherwise I might have been a bit salty. I installed the default TSP maps via the ERM and there is a definite difference between the white and green maps. I'm an intermediate rider, and I prefer the (TSP) white map in the tight stuff. Also riding TuBliss front and back for the first time ever and holy smoke is it awesome. Stoked with the bike and the grip. Doesn't get any better. Cheers.
I was going to get the Pro but is was all sold out and also the price here was crazy. Randomly they then added the brembo to the standard modle and I was sold. Really glad to hear the TSP works well as I have the ERM sitting in a box in the garage ready to go. Totally agree with the Tubliss front and rear. We have been running them for about 6 years and havent looked back, also had zero issues with them as long as you make sure the 110psi tub is pumped up each ride. Let us know how yours gets on. What gearing did you choose? I have a 47 ready to install. Thanks 👍 💪
@@HardUNduro I'm still on stock gearing, but the bike came with a smaller (by 1 tooth) front sprocket and I'll be putting that on soon just to compare - it's a pretty standard mod for me. I picked up mine for a good price on the NSW south coast, but I was definitely paying for the Brembos. Hope to see you out there one day. Cheers.
Thanks. Yep I put the 13 front on straight away. It's very comfortable but 1st is too sluggish for me hence going to the 47 rear. Will let everyone know how it feels soon. cheers.
Nice bike and great trails.
Thanks mate cheers 👍
I think most woods riders would like it better if the seat was 3” lower and the wheelbase 5” shorter. And, lighter suspension. And, 2” narrower bars. People don’t need to jump 100’ gaps.
Definitely lower for us. A few mods are coming up soon, which should improve all of that. Cheers. 💪💪🙏
