Group Theory and Chemistry Basics 3: Assigning Point Groups
Просмотров 7 тыс.2 года назад
In this video we will learn how to assign point groups to molecules based on key molecular symmetry elements. Although this can be summarized in a flow-chart, it will be shown that you are no more than five key-questions away from assigning a molecule to its point group. It is assumed you are familiar with molecular symmetry operations. An overview of these can be found in video 2 of this serie...
Group Theory and Chemistry Basics 2: Symmetry Elements

what is salc's ??
Hi, thank you for the video. I have a question with the SALCs for pi-acceptors, why there are 10 valence electrons in total in the energy diagram?
You are my real professor
Thank you so much
12:15
Thank you so much
Very helpful video. Thanks for uploading ❤
THANKS!
can you pls make it but with methane
Okay, Sheldon.
It is a very useful video on difficult concept, can you please label the remaining MOs and also how is their shape justified?
Thank you !
nn o capito nietne
on 6:53 you say that the characters for Gamma2 will be +-1. But where does it follow from? Why do they have to be integers?
Thank you so much, you are a lifesaver.
9:55 I am confused by the first and second terminology. You said the cell corresponding to row sigma(xz) and column sigma(yz) corresponds to sigma(xz) first and then sigma(yz), but the matrix multiplication is sigma(xz)*sigma(yz). Wouldn't sigma(xz)*sigma(yz) mean yz first and then xz? I thought the opreations of matrix multiplication should be read from right to left.
Great video man! Thanks. I would like to know in which book I would find this theory (with examples) like you exposed here? Thanks again.
Thanks so much!!! <3
literally saved my ass in symmetry and spec. Huge respect to you
Good video
I'm gonna need that fourth video eventually. Nobody else can explain inorganic as well as you.
I think it would really help students for you to create a playlist to follow in order…i feel like i keep jumping video to video because you dont have a playlist
Like i am super lost because this was supposed to be an intro video and it’s introducing a lot of concepts that you haven’t talked about yet as if we know them already. Please provide a resource so we may go read on our own?
Thank yu
Professor I believe there is an error with the methane example for s4. The b should be on the left a on right prior to reflwction about horizontal axis
Waa very amazing lecturer method
You have helped me a lot. I've taught the rules for Mulliken symbols, but I didn't understand how to label an atomic orbital using the character tables until now. Thanks!
I dont understand how ptbr2cl4 only has one mirror plane. It looks like it has vertical and dihedral
Big thanks... i really didnt understand till i come here\
Thank you for making these :)
These videos are a lifesaver! Thanks so much!
This series seems to be the only useful material except for TMP Chems vids for getting a glimpse into chemical group theory for people who want to study this on their own. Thank you so much for explaining all of this in detail. It's absolutely crucial.
Very concise and super helpful video. Thanks a lot!
You are a legend!
Thanks for sharing. Where I can find the previous video?
Tnx , Im from Iran ❤
Thanks for the video! It clarified a lot, I have a question about the arrangement of sigma MO?
great videos! thanks
You deserve a trophy Sir!
so fking great
Thanks for this. Beautiful explanation.
thank you very much
I have just found the yt chanel that will save my semester thanks!
Excellent
thank you:)
perfect video!
Very useful for my quantum chemistry course, thank you!
Thanks for the tutorial, saved my quiz. Can you do SF6 and explain its hypervalence.
10:22 , I think there's a mistake in the orientation (labels) on sigma xz because sigma xz showed similar orientation as the identity E. I think the C and D should swap places to achieve sigma xz.
This is better than my textbook, thanks a lot!
Thanks!
