Angelina Outside
Добавлен 10 ноя 2022
Hi! I'm Angelina. I learned to ski in my late twenties and completely fell in love. I want to share with you my journey and things I've learned along the way. I love traveling to ski and exploring new terrain. While I'm still quite the nervous skier, I'm always trying to push myself a smidge outside of my comfort zone. There are no expert moves here, but we do spend a lot of time in expert terrain, and I feel very passionate about showing realistic experiences in technical terrain.
Subscribe if that sounds good to you and let's go skiing :)

Today I want to round up all of these different lessons I've taken and give you my honest thoughts on them. I didn't realize it while I was recording, but if you are curious what my thoughts are on Carv, I rant about it for a good amount of time in this video. 00:00...

You skied that great!
Love your post! NE skier here since the 1950s, with a number of years skiing in Utah. Yup I’m that old and still skiing. But I am still learning. I grew up with the mantra of “longer and stiffer” to ski this stuff. It was that long ago I figured out that wasn’t a thing. And just going to a narrow ski won’t do it either. It is all in technique. Without technique, equipment won’t fix a problem. Stowe VT gives lessons on how to ski this stuff. Basically, you have to ski just the front half of the ski; toes to tips, only. The practice is to side slip on the front half of the ski. Then learn to add the edges. I know with western skiers in powder, the finish of the turn is on the back of the ski. Can’t do that on ice. That may be a habit you will have to figure out how to get around that habit. BTW - for a long time my ski of choice were the Line Sick Days. El dente noodles of the ski world. So I know what you are up against. Of course the other option is to just not ski this stuff at all. But, I have found over the years that learning something new in a sport is part of the fun of the sport. And yes, it is okay to not be comfortable and to quit. Been there and done that in just one run. Take care and continue to enjoy.
I love Mystic Pines, but I’ve never gone down under the lift, but stayed to the right where the trees are. Not too much longer, I hope!
Talus Garden, yes. Fright Gully no. Commit to memory. The only run I’ve done up there was 94 turns, which I remember as not that bad.
Is first/second week of January too early to go?? Im reading some that say its too early and many lifts will still be closed and many saying it will be totally fine
Depends on what you expect. I don’t think it’s too early on a normal snow year but it’s very weather dependent
Do you recommend Carv? I would think I'm near your level and wondering if Carv is worth it.
You're doing great hitting the steepest party of the bumps. Deb Armstrong has a must see bump strategy video
I’ve left after one run when the snow was heavy and wet and it was a recipe for a cruciate tear. Oh well. There are always better days. I never feel bad. I’m in the Midwest and we get ice and even though it’s normal, I hate it.
maybe because its because your a gaper, and ride with a selfie stick, that is reason alone you should never make an other video......
You should hit up Loveland ski area, nice and creamy this morning!
Subscribed. Hey, safety first. Good call. But I would also like to mention ... this is a perfect opportunity to learn something and share it with your community as well. As others have kind of pointed out, we have lots of different kinds of skis out there. And a lot of beginners don't know the difference. This would be an AWESOME time to show folks the difference between skiing on ice on a pair of off-piste skis, and skiing on ice on a pair of properly tuned carving skis. Might make a good video. Good luck with your channel. And feel free to check mine out as well if you want.
That took courage, nice job!
Can you share some of the things you like to work on? Like things you’ve learned in lessons/etc?
I've been hit from behind before by an out of control skier and have many near misses and still get anxious on busy runs years later. Too many out of control skiers that have no business being on the slopes these days and limited/narrow terrain makes it even worse! I even recently bought a back protector to wear for some peace of mind (not that it's a guarantee to not be injured, but whatever might help an impact). Although I'm an East Coaster and I'm used to ice I find the boilerplate days are perfect to do some drills like pivot slips (if you are into that sort of thing) and a much safer way to get down if you can't get an edge in.
If it makes you feel any better, I typically ski 45mph plus (while actually turning) and I often have to make sure the coast is well clear bc people will fly by me going “Rt 11” straight down the mountain. If they hit some snowcat rubble or had to turn they’d be dead. Never understood skiing without turning.
east coaster here, calling it when it is too icy is normal, more experience will make you more comfortable. But early in the season is not the time to continue when you feel unsafe.
The lesson helps you skip long lines
first time my local mtn has showed up on my feed lmao, early season is always pretty rough at eldo but the runs usually soften up around 10-12ish
Wow, you really ski all over. You're so lucky to live in colorado. Yeah, coloradocamera is an extreme skier that skis all out, all day. Fun to watch
I think if you use your video cam, you can review each run. And the instructor can comment. Instant feedback and instant improvement. Variability among instructors is huge. Some are awesome help. Some are just there killing time for their free pass and prestige.
Hi. I like your content so I just subscribed to your channel. I'm a snowboarder that likes to go fast, but not as close to people like that guy at 17:47. Is that ok? Can I stay subscribed to you? :)
Of course! This is a snowboarder friendly space :)
@@angelinaoutside <3
Show your lunch spots and parking and walk to slopes cuz those are little things but helpful too.
Very good skiing. Your priorities are spot on. Safety first. Then fun and longevity. You should have a great season and grow your channel. Thanks for your videos.
Utah snow looks even better than Colorado. I’m from Ohio so it all makes me jealous. Going to breck and park city this winter though.
Couldn't watch all the way through. The MUSIC was atrocious!
Woah guys, I feel like I touched a nerve LOL. I don't stop skiing when it's just windy, or when it's just icy. First off, the wind gust was 50mph, which was extremely unpleasant. Iciness alone would probably cut my day short, but not this short. If you are on the east coast and this is normal, consider that east coast skiers are way more used to those conditions. It's me feeling uncomfortable, yes, but I was also thinking about how others around me might be feeling or skiing. I've seen enough crashes on icy days to not want to be around that, especially with these runs being on the narrow side. I have been crashed into a few times, so I am maybe a bit skittish. Lastly, I am just not that great of a skier on this type of terrain, and this wasn't a limit I wanted to push.
No way dude you're good! Lifelong ice coaster and I wouldn't be having fun on a day like that either. Not to mention, wind holds are a thing - I've been skiing on windy days when one or more lifts had to shut down due to the wind making them unsafe to run.
I'm honestly really glad you posted this. It provides good unique perspective on your analysis of the risks you are taking and also the degree of comfort involved.
I live next to Heavenly Ski Resort where I get a chance to ski almost every day the lifts are running. Although I embrace firm/icey conditions whole-heartedly, I feel like I can relate to your sentiment in part: my least favorite portion of ski season is the opening when loads of people are crammed onto a few blue runs. I see lots of people going too close and too fast into crowded areas. I feel much more relaxed when there is enough snow for more terrain and mogul runs to open.
It was an opportunity to get better and you decided to go home.
All you bitter east coasters here only wished you were lucky enough to live out west.
I never ski early when one run is open nor any time when one run is all there is. Dangerous, and I am a very experienced skiers.
Eldora early season is TERRIFYING 😅
the locals get it 😭
i like the videos
This is like a mini-power day for east coast😂
Love your videos!! Do you have any advice on fixing an awkward inner ski? I’ve heard trying to pick up that leg a little bit helps keep your skis parallel but would love to hear your advice! Thank you!
East coast instructor here. Embrace these days to work on your carve. Keep it safe with terrain selection. Also having your ski’s in perfect tune is a big advantage. Yes, carving specific ski’s helps but not entirely necessary. I ski at a major NE resort (Sugarloaf) and those conditions don’t look entirely unfamiliar (to say the least), in fact I look forward to those days minus the wind. As a note I do bring out my carving specific ski’s on those days. I have the inverse problem to yours. I struggle on powder days. Because we really get them.
"Iciness" wasn't the only reason I stopped, but I totally agree with you otherwise, and I definitely still struggle on deeper powder days!
This looks like a prime east coast day 😂. I say that out of jealousy btw.
Curious if anyone is interested in our smart ski goggles? With intercom, the ability to listen to music, take calls, etc.
You absolutely do not suck! It will be even more perfect if you wear our smart ski goggles!
I think you need one of our smart ski goggles!
That sounds like a good day in the east. When it's icy in the east my ski couldn't even crack the surface and I wasn't joking so don't duck the rope. And this is good coverage too since some of our hills are half brown ice the whole year and still opened. We are all begging for snow on this side right now and not a drop of ice has arrive yet. Killington opened by pure man made and people are excited. I can't believe how spoiled you guys are when you bring out the word safety
Totally fair, but this would be much safer for you because you are used to it. I don’t have the ice skills lol. Also need to worry about other people. Eldora can be dangerous.
@@angelinaoutside I used to live out west too and didn't realize what I missed until I lost it. I am just jealous lol
I quit skiing and snowboarding in CO because lift tickets got too expensive and the traffic supersucks. I told myself since I live in Boulder that on a powder day, I would go to Eldora but when that happens the place closes from too many people and I really don't want to sit in long lines to get a few crowded runs in. If you can find a backcountry spot that is not crowded, that is the ticket.
Eldora on a powder day was one of my worst ski driving days ever. Someone drove into the lake 😬
@@angelinaoutside I remember that I think. Wasn't it the plow?
looik good? Okay, I'll remember that for next time. When I ski, I wear a hard hat and yellow vest to let people know I am visible.
When the ice is blue you know its bullet proof 😂
You coming to Utah at all this year?
I agree 100 %
Your videos are so underrated!!
Thank you so much!
In my totally freeride orientated opinion beginners is pizza French fries (it doesn't matter what run you can make it down but how you do it) intermediate is being able to get down all runs at the resorted using parallel turns without including hike to runs which usually include mandatory air. advanced is doing that all plus hike to runs cliffs park jumps... expert is everything that advanced is but bigger cliffs bigger jumps and with tricks ex backflips 360 flatspin cork rotations. that's just my opnion tho.
I love your take on this. I'm a ski instructor and just for the sake of it I took one of my friends down a black run on his second day. He got down it. But he is by no means even an intermediate skier. Form, confidence, and making responsible decisions are all factors of being a good skier. I'd consider myself a pretty good skier; even better than most. But every time I go out west, there are some people passing me that are much better skiers than I am. You wouldn't call a gymnast an expert just because they can do a flip. You'd call them an expert if they can do it well and repeatedly without falling. P.S. You definitely have the capability of becoming an advanced skier. Almost anyone can become an advanced skier with practice.
I understand your reasons for stopping and I definitely don't blame you. However, it's interesting seeing your take on the icy groomer because on the east coast, icy groomed runs are the norm. Also, you can still be very much in control on icy groomers as long as you have the right skis and good form.
if thats icy to you, you wouldnt make it down a east cost ski resort lol
I dunno that looked pretty hard
I would say it's firm but not even close to icy @@Pgd10020
You are right, I wouldn't 😂
This is a myth. I grew up skiing out east and spent the next 30+ years skiing the Rockies and believe me it gets just as icy out west, maybe just not quite as often. The worst ice that I ever encountered by a long shot was at Steamboat on opening day exactly 10 years ago.
I live in Denver and was putting backyard things away because the wind got so bad
