Can you share your model with me? A sample model that I could use in a video?
@BIMvoice I mean, I am designing a house, for example, in Blender. After that, I want to make an executive plan for it through IFC, but when I take the measurements, they appear to me, but the house does not appear!! Can you help me with this, please?
Very nice, easy and simple way of presenting things. I wish if you produced more videos about Logseq. Keep up good work please!
thank you for the kind words.
hi thank you for making this video ^^... just want to ask... waht determines the color of elements in IFC exports? is there any control for it? thanks ^^
Thank you for your kind words. The color information is stored in IfcSurfaceStyles. In Bonsai you can modify/edit/change that and add more styles/colors.

I've seen a lot of videos regarding blender BIM with models ready. But not modelling. It's not useful for modelling like Revit is. For complex models it takes to long
Great point. There are people who have completely switched from Revit to Bonsai, though it is not a straightforward journey. Remember your first days with Revit? It was not easy at first either. While Bonsai may not be as user friendly, it is incredibly powerful, and many have proven it is possible to master it. Ultimately, it comes down to your motivation and how much you want to learn and make the most of it.
I am a draftsman working in a tire manufacturing company. I have been following your RUclips channel for some time now and am incredibly impressed by your expertise in BlenderBIM. I am currently working on creating technical drawings and animations for our engineering department. While I am proficient in Blender for 3D modeling and animation, I am facing a challenge in creating 2D outlines of complex 3D models for technical drawings. My current workflow involves exporting the 3D model from Blender to a .dae format, importing it into SketchUp, and then using SketchUp Layout to create the 2D drawings. While this method works, it is time-consuming . I believe that BlenderBIM could be a more efficient solution for this task. However, I have been unable to fully grasp the workflow for creating accurate 2D outlines of 3D models directly within BlenderBIM. I would be immensely grateful if you could provide a detailed workflow or tutorial on how to achieve this using BlenderBIM.
Thank you for the kind words. Follow IfcArchitect channel for more videos about modeling and drawings.
great video! I was wondering if you have any videos related to blender cesium workflow that will help me a lot or suggest channel for this thank you.
Thank you for your feedback! Nothing on cesium so far, and no plans to do it in the near future either. Sorry.
I only have blender light and dark do you know how to get other themes like maya etc?
Sure, you have to go to Edit / Preferences / Get Extentions / At the top where you can see Add-ons, click there and choose Themes / Browse through them and install the theme that you like/wish. This works for Blender 4.2+.

Why all the unnecessary effects? Cra*y. Mess up very fine information.
Thank you for your feedback, I will keep this in mind for the future :)
Hey Petru! Nice video! Any ideas why I'm getting a Traceback python error when trying to link the files?
Thank you for the kind words. All errors should be reported on GitHub github.com/IfcOpenShell/IfcOpenShell/issues, and they will promptly be fixed :) It's also a great way to support the Bonsai project itself. P.S. I would try most updated version, I'm quite sure that error has been fixed already :)
Please report that on github so it will be fixed. If you use today's version that might be fixed already.
Construction tech excellence. I love it.
Thank you for your kind words!
Exciting. Perth Western Australia. www.youtube.com/@ausacadotblogspot/videos
Great! didn't know the patch exists there. it has bunch of good things to patch!
There are few amazingly usable patches, that I use a lot. Thanks for your support!
HI, I think the future looks bright for Bonsai! Revit is my main tool for design and presentation of plans. However my main concepting and presentation tool is Blender. Its nice to see, at last, a stable and useable bridge between the two using IFC. It would be great to see some sort of add on for revit and Blender Bim to help with working between the two platforms. I am thinking of things like rendering for presentations, setting up materials, linking files. Maybe you could do a video on the workflow between Revit and Blender?
Thanks for the kind words and for the nice ideas. I don't use Revit, so I won't cover this anytime soon unfortunately. Maybe other people will do that though.
Autocad Architecture 2020 user here, Australian and I've been dreaming about someone creating a proper Arch package in Blender and here it is and it's free. Amazing Very interested in the future (as ACA real advancement was abandoned a decade or more ago) but it will take a lot of relearning and would have to work hard to overcome autocad's advanced 2D drafting tools which is very mature. What I see of adding text seems very laborious for example. Bruno seems very ingenious. I created my own system with simple lisp to build 2d models in one drawing, something ACA wants to use multiple drawings to do. I'd love one day to be helping create custom tools for use in Bonsai but I'm a bit dull these days. More power to ya.
Thank you Nathan for your very kind words and support! Bonsai becomes more and more reliable.
Awesome!!! One more something 😊 How To Adjust IFC Slab COLOR in BlenderBIM The Right Way?😀
Thank you very much, that's a great idea for a video. Stay tuned I will make that soon enough!
Thanks 😊 you 😊
you're welcome!
Could you do the import via a Python script? I mean for automation purposes
Everything you can do in Bonsai AND MORE you can do with python by using IfcOpenShell. Remember, Bonsai it's just a graphical user interface with some pre-defined functions using IfcOpenShell in the background.
Thank you!!! It was very difficult to see. Very simple video but very appreciated. Perfect.
I'm so happy this was helpful! Thank you for your kind words!
0:38 ahhh.. my eyes ! my eyes ! I'm just joking 😂🙌
yessiiiir!
Guys, can you make a tutorial how to split an existing ifc inside blender bim. I cant find any concise information about it. I want to import an ifc, make a selection, then export that selection into another ifc file.
you can do that with IfcPatch, using the recipe ExtractElements. I will make a video with that soon.
Yeah, this is something that is often part of my workflow. I have been stuck sometimes looking for something "higher" in the IFC tree. Unlinking the element seems to be the way to go.
Great to hear that Edgar!
Great video, thanks a lot. (The surface area of the beam was actually correct btw...)
Thank you for your feedback Matty, you rock!
Well, turns out i'm a BIM-monkey.
woops, and? How do you feel about that? :)
It's not ideal, especially if the Bim manager wants ifc of the machinery, we ask our producer if they have bim models we can use and they send us a heavy unusable DWG or CAD file😂 @@BIMvoice
@@sverreytterdal7167 I feel you, same here. Most of the time getting step or Inventor files :D
Hey Petru, in 4.2 there now is only "Link IFC" under the "Links" section. Will you make an update?
I will. I just don't know when.
Clear instructions but I am having trouble installing! I followed the instructions but nothing installed! no error message. the only thing I noticed is that it says blender unsaved at the top left. Is this the error message? how can I save blender? its a brand new install? thank you
Stay tuned, I'll drop soon an updated video on this.
There's no way to make something like custom Revit families in BlenderBIM yet right? I'm pretty sure they wanted to add that capability eventually but it's much later on their roadmap.
Those would be IFC types, and yes you can use that already.
@@petcon29 I have had trouble finding tutorials or documentation on this, do you know of any? So if you're right I can create my own arbitrary geometry and tie the dimensions of the geometry to parameters that "flex" when I change the values? Key words being arbitrary geometry that I create and not prebuilt types that come with blenderbim?
sorry for the late reply. IfcArchitect has few videos about how to create IFC window type for example.
🎉 we always say engineers care mostly about the “I” in “BIM”
great to hear that sir!
Thanks for this, much needed
You're welcome! What other tutorials would you like to see?
@@BIMvoice I would like to see more tutorials on generating drawings with BlenderBim :D
Great talk but the background music is really annoying
Thank you for the honest feedback, I will keep that in mind!
Walk mode has been around in Blender for a long time.
Thank you for your input. Bonsai and Blender are 2 different things. I am referring to the fact that this has been implemented in Bonsai itself not having anything to do with the original Blender core feature.
Thank you Petru for the clarification. It may be obvious, but I have to add... The BIM Modeller can have a variety of qualifications but from my experience it appears the better they are at modelling with whatever authoring software they use, the worse they are at understanding how a building actually goes together. The few that are good at both are like 'unicorns'
Glad it helped and thak you for adding your own perspective to it!
Architects and engineers are BIM users. A BIM modeler for me is someone who is able to have a thorough understanding of the model they are creating. Not only for the purpose of modeling it, but also with a modeling strategy that allows for further development during the project steps.
I love the points you added, thank you!
What if I want that random color to be my default setting?
You want to have default colors for specific classes? I don't think that is supported right now.
Great update video. I wonder if function to re-synchronize construction program files that have been already imported will be added. This coupled with growth direction when showing a construction sequence, would be a massive power move, currently when elements are actively installed they will appear instantaneously in it's selected color not texture and unable to re-sync construction programmes.
Thank you for your kind words and feedback! Feel free to file that on github as a feature request. Someone might do it! :)
Im trying to sell inside the company I work at, but we just tried to open two models today and had two separate issues:: 1. Fasade model. IFC2x3 file that didn't failed to load about 40% of the model. 2. Elevator model. IFC4 file that loaded geometry in two separate locations. The one in 0,0,0 was probably a support layer of lines to create snap points, and the main geometry was placed up and to the side by quite some distance. These problems did not occur in Dalux and Solibri. No idea how that happened, and it wasn't the greatest demo I could give my boss..! Any clues what this could be and how to fix it?
Hey Edvard! It's great to hear you trying to promote Bonsai man, I love it! Are you still facing this issues with the latest versions? I sent you a message on Linkedin, let's have a chat and see exactly what this is about.
