I don't understand all the Burke hate. I actually liked him a little better

Big mistake when they got rid of Robert Lansing after the first season of this show supposedly for younger looking Burke. A tv network executive who made that decision. Many believe that shortened the series to only three years total.

The commando raid with naval bombardment is entirely fictional. Also the main attacks on Hamburg were in July, 1943...long before the P-51D was available. the sound effects in the German radar station sound like sonar. B-17s were notoriously dreadful at attacking shipping. As an aside, Michael Rennie served in the RAF during WW2 and trained in America to be a pilot.

I understand why they canceled this in the middle of the third season because this season sucks

I like the sensitivity with which the scene of their last meeting was filmed. Mary's happiness and joy, Andy's "you'd be as welcome as the flowers of spring" to Mary's father, and the way each looks lingeringly at the other, suggesting they know it will be the last time they see each other alive. Watching it just now, that 60 year old devastating memory of this loveliest young woman being snatched away after she just agreed to marry him involuntarily returned--quite a surprise. And one more thing--it looked like BOTH actors enjoyed that kiss--after all, even actors playing a part are human. And each was SO attractive at the time!

Sad to think that all these mens sacrifices are being squandered by "leaders" like we have now

I way prefer Burke though Lansing was good

I cannot believe I missed this episode.

I once read about an incident where a Luftwaffe bomber did slip into a USAAF bomber formation unobserved while they were on such a mission and a formation of Luftwaffe bombers followed the formation, attacked, and caused a lot of damage. Apparently Goering himself was involved.

These two had great chemistry.

Interesting plot using a coded music recording to transmit spy information. But this method was first used in the 1958 British WW2 Spy Trriller "The Two Headed Spy" starring Jack Hawkins.

In my opinion one of the best TV shows ever made.Must have been a huge hit with the veterans back in the day.Oh they probably ripped it apart about the facts but inside I am sure they loved it...reminiscing and all.The acting was top notch...The writing amazing...Damn I love this show..

The war had been over for a decade and a half almost two decades. The men that fought in it were raising families and still raising a little hell in new suburbs across the country. These guys that grew up in the depression and entered adulthood in the military found themselves watching TV with their family with a couple shows and maybe a movie a week about the war. Some drama, some comedy, and much of it picked apart and termed offensive to veterans of the war.

Strange…this edition left me feeling sorry. It ended well…thankfully. I didn’t want him to die. Such capable writing and directing!

Watching these series and now just learning about these "stragglers" I wonder how often these actually took place? And wondering how the Nazis got their hands on B-17s?

good episode, however I thought it strange that she would announce to everyone that he won BEFORE she told him, as maybe he wouldn't want others to know (I wouldn't). It should havw been his choice to tell other people, not her

Frank Overton was a fine character actor who worked in films and on TV. He appeared in episodes of STAR TREK and THE TWILIGHT ZONE.

Lansing was dismissed ( real reason ) because he was a Heavy smoker. The insurance rates were too high for the studio. It was a 2 million $ $$, start up. Saved $$ by hiring a non-smoker. Quality suffered. Lansing COD was lung cancer. God bless him.

One of the best, if not the best TV show of years gone by. The movie was top notch too, in my top 5 movies of all time.

I would have loved to have Lansing go up against Nicholson in a war film. That would have been great
