CCS2 Chademo Adaptor UK

At long last, we get to see and try the Evoyage CCS2 CHAdeMO adaptor. Despite the pouring rain and a not-shown false start with a broken BP Pulse charger, we soon had it charging my car from a CCS2 charger! www.electricvehicle-charging.com/

Dr Andy Palmer interview pt 2

Dr Palmer tells us about his interest in The Sex Pistols, Adrian Newey and Redbull. The big question is, 'Should Nissan have made more EVs between LEAF and ARIYA and Andy tells it to us straight. We hear about his relationships with the two Carlos' - Ghosn and Tavares and of course, about The Palmer Foundation. #nissan #leaf #ev #evcommunity #andypalmer #nissanevownersuk

Yeah, that was a funny moment. "Spoken announcement"...
Interesting! Did you try it in multiple makes of CCS chargers? What are the wires hanging from the adaptor for? I appreciate you guys were fighting the elements but a step by step walk through of the complete charging process would have been appreciated so any difficulties in connection between vehicle and charger could have been observed and taken in to consideration if people are interested in purchasing an adaptor. There is a guy in Florida who purchased an adaptor and who posts on RUclips (warts and all) his attempts and the difficulties he is having trying to get his adaptor working. Results are disappointing for the guy so far. Where within the UK are they being sold?
I'm a leaf 20 Tekna E owner. I would never purchase something like that for 1000 pounds, just insaine. Plenty of Chademo chargers around still.
Won't be for long
Yes, but you've got twice the battery capacity of mine. You don't need to charge as often.
Thanks for sharing, also we are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Thank you very much for this Paul, really appreciate it!
I'm grateful to your team for doing this. There's a genuine passion amongst you guys that was uplifting to see. I want to see the vehicles again. Would love to drive one.
Thanks for sharing, is there a list of known working charger brands/networks for the UK? It would be great to see it in action on Ionity, Applegreen and open Tesla chargers.
They are testing on Tesla in the coming days. It failed to work on an ancient Polar BP Pulse machine but I think that was dead anyway. I asked BPP to reboot it and it never came back so we went somewhere else.
@@NissanEVOwnersUK thanks for your reply, I'll keep an eye out for updates. I'm keen to see how it goes, although I don't public charge often this would be a great thing to have if it worked on the majority of chargers for peace of mind on those longer journeys.
Ionity works fine ,we have testing video. We don't Applegreen station photos. Applegreen should be a running company, we don't whether we have tested the manufacture stations. And Tesla charger in Finland we tested. So should be working in UK.
Ew, who's that guy in the awful T-shirt?
We need carbon fibre brakes and Lithium Ion 12v batteries. With those, an EV would probably need no servicing other than an occasional coolant and oil change that kwik fit could do.
One manufacturer, might have been Lada experimented with an oil system that could be changed at home. The filter had a port on the outside that fitted to a domestic drill pumped all the oil out of another port, presumably to go into the sewer. The new oil came in a large can and replacement filter and the oil was piped into the engine in the same way the old was extracted. Can't imagine why it didn't catch on.
@@NissanEVOwnersUK Easier than going under the car and removing the sump plug. EV oil doesn't get as dirty anyway and there are fewer bits of metal to end up in it.
There are early Leafs and early Peugeot EVs with 30 miles range left that are living happily in the Hebridean islands. No MOT required either as there are no testing stations. We call them "island cars".
Precisely. For me, LEAF is a second car. As long as it can do my 40 mile commute, it's good enough.
Thanks for the mention 😃. 3 weeks now my head n neck are numb still painful. Cheered me up 👍
EVA England are really great, keep pushing on!
He's incredibly charismatic. With him on our side, we are guaranteed a win.
I LOVE MY 2012 LEAF. I agree that the decision to use the 24kWh battery was correct due to price. A bigger battery would have meant a higher cost, which would have put me off. When I purchased I took into account that it would be a city car. Living in Perth, Australia, distances between cities are far greater than in Europe / U.K.. I consciously decided that if I wanted to travel outside the city at that time, I would hire a fossil fuel burner. Today I could hire a modern E.V. With the required range. Perth (Oz) may not be Phoenix, but can still be hot, and it was not good for those early LEAFs. Given the Phoenix experience, I question why Nissan did not learn the lesson and incorporate thermal management in subsequent models. I congratulate Nissan on being a trail blazer in the E.V. field and producing a sturdy, quality vehicle. Apart from the HV battery, in eleven years, I have not had to replace any part, other than the consumable cabin air filter - brilliant.
hi Paul in one of these vids with Euan I'm sure he mentioned a Scottish company doing something in connection with aftermarket leaf batteries .. something akin to what EVs enhanced have promised to do in NZ? do we know anything more?
amtepower.com/ Nothing to report from them, I'm afraid. I nearly said during the interview something akin to 'Perhaps the best thing that could conceivably happen to Amte Power is that they get snapped up by a conglomerate', but Euan seemed emotionally invested so saying that might have come across as trite and would have likely been cut in the edit. I'll ask him on Xwitter if there's any news.
great thanks @@NissanEVOwnersUK i saw his response . would be a fine thing .. importing batteries from NZ sounded promising .. but frankly also a bit nuts!
Tom, the second interview references EV Enhanced too. I talk with Brian about his 40kWh upgrade in Western Australia
I didn't know they'd started fitting them, will have a look. just to clarify it was the idea of shipping this far rather than the concept itself . a new battery w/new tech would extend the leaf indefinitely @@NissanEVOwnersUK
Just to clarify Ev Enhanced modified the BMS and other stuff, but the actual swap was done by the car's owner
Someone posted this on the Yorkshire EV Club group, and it has made my Sunday 🤣
Thank you for your appreciation. I am quite pleased with it.
A good interesting video..Before the P.M statement, I was watching a debate in the house of Lord's and it was mentioned that there should be a less confusing situation of the way you pay for charging an E.V. One Lord stated that there were to many cards that have to be in your pocket. May be a talking point in your next video.
That lord was right, of course. I've had to add a notation to the video where I talk about the 2030 ban because the video was recorded the week before Rishi changed it :)
It's now November 2023, and this bill has been passed, and it states all new E.V public chargers must have a contact less payment pad on chargers
The Kiwi company is EVs Enhanced. They are working on a “16 Blade” LEAF battery with thermal management. But first orders will go to Nu Zeeelund residents. I thoroughly recommend EVs Enhanced as a result of their assistance when I upgraded my 24kWh LEAF to 40kWh in Perth ( Southern Hemisphere, guys ). They modified the electronics in my BMS to suit and provided a great conversion kit. I was greatly relieved that this talk did not get as deeply technical as the intro suggested 😉
Yes, the Green Blade pack!
