Thanks for the encouragement! From a biblical example, Ruth took initiative to approach Boaz. So, we think it’s okay to initiate or send the first message. The thing I would add as context or caution, you want the guy to respond and start initiating soon after because you don’t want to get down the line realizing you married a passive man. For example, after Ruth initiated, Boaz took action to be a kinsman redeemer. He promptly resolved the open issues with the one who was in line before him. From a man’s perspective, I think it communicates confidence, which is also really attractive to see in a lady. You just have to be emotionally ready if they don’t respond. However, in the dating process, you have to take steps of faith, which is risky. But Jesus, the greater Boaz, our kinsman redeemer, did the riskiest thing bearing the cross we deserved (side gospel note I always found really cool)! I hope this helps! D&M

I think a woman needs to be very mindful about the interactions that then follow that initial message. Hi again Megan and Dustin, I wondered if there's any way I could get some further advice from you both? I am currently using an online dating site (recently set up my profile) and I have messaged a number of guys whom I feel could potentially be well suited to me. However, I have currently got no responses at all and I'm just wondering if it could be because of how I have answered some of the questions in my profile. I'm a strong Christian and so iv tried to be as honest as I can be about how this impacts my life etc. At the moment Im just struggling to know what it could be....and im.wondering weather it is just the fact the fact that I'm reaching out to them and if these type of men find that an attractive quality!? At the moment I'm not quite sure. I recognize that this is a big thing to ask but I'm wondering if there would be any way I could forward you both a sample of my profile with my photos so that you could give me some advice on what you think I could do differently. I also recognise that it's important to be honest and be yourself which is really what Im trying to do. But I'm wondering if there are things I could word different or say differently. I'm just trying to work out if it's something from my end or if it could just be these men are not right/ready to communicate with me. Perhaps they feel that there are aspects of my personality that would just not suit them!? Any help you could give me wound be deeply appreciated. Megan didn’t get any replies from guys she messaged. The tough part is you’ll never know the exact reason why. I messaged quite a few ladies and didn’t get responses on most. Online dating accelerates the emotional process of dating and it’s important not to build castles in your mind (excited about someone before anything’s official). In regards to your profile, typically the more transparency the better. It helps attract people who are sincere and serious about online dating. The distance thing is a real hurdle, and we both had to decline talking to people that lived further away than our liking. We hope this helps! The good old relationship values are tried and true, agree! Not a lot new or different. There are good, principled women out there. Have hope! It’s like when God told Elijah He had 7,000 in Israel that have not bowed their knee to Baal. There is always a remnant that honor God amongst the debased dating culture. You can find a great woman.

We dated for four months before I proposed. We were engaged for 8 months. 😄

That’s exciting! Things can go quickly when you are mature, healthy, and know your values. It also helps when you both of strong communities that can validate each other’s character. I think you should move as fast as you can but as slow as you need to. Dating isn’t a promise land but a wilderness we go through. Hope that helps! Pumped and praying for you!

You are essentially asking, what is the will of God. I struggled not knowing God’s will as an early Christian but wanting to live in God’s will. I asked a mentor “what is God’s will for my life?!?!” I didn’t want to live in anxiety, but wanted to know the answers. I was tired of being confused and wanted clarity. He just pointed me to Rom 12:1-2. “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ I hated this response because it didn’t tell me what decision to make. However, it showed me how to grow in discernment to know what decision to make. And if I have discernment I will be able to prove what is the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God. I am able to grow in discernment by renewing my mind in God’s word. By walking with Jesus. By getting wisdom from wise counselors. Here are other verses about growing in discernment. I hope this helps you. It may frustrate you in the present, but it was fruitful as I pressed into my mentors guidance. “And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.” ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭1‬:‭9‬-‭11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ “But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭5‬:‭14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ - D Hey there! My first thought to this question is that God is good and He often tells us in His Word not to worry. So we know fear is not from God, but peace is. Some of the best advice I’ve ever received is, follow PEACE. Secondly, someone I admire very much asked the Lord, how do we know we’re in Your will? He replied, What would it take for you to write your only daughter out of your living will? She said, she would have to turn away and forsake us completely and everything we’ve ever taught her and completely and totally forsake us. God said, exactly. If we just follow Him and seek His heart and His face, you will be in His will. Peace follows God’s presence, so if you don’t feel peace about something, analyze WHY? And ask God to reveal to you why. But don’t walk and live in fear and worry of being in or out of His timing. If you are at peace and those around you are confirming God is working in your current situation, and it lines up with His Word, we should not fret, but trust! It’s a 3 way confirmation: PEACE, HIS WORD, COUNSEL. I hope this helps you as it’s helped guide me over the years! -M

I’m sorry to hear that! That’s tough, and thanks for sharing. The word “waiting” has caused a lot of pain in the church. It’s part contentment and trusting God with your current place but also courage and trusting God to step out in faith for the promise. Isaiah 40:31 talks about those who wait shall run, walk, and soar like the eagles. Waiting isn’t passively waiting but abiding in His presence and being proactive. I hope this helps. - D
