I’m a 7mm08 guy myself, but I’ll never pass up a good 243 lesson 🤘
Great cartridge choice. Thanks for watching.
As always great vidieos young man!
Glad you like them!
30.06 a lot closer to the bullseye as far as group about the same
Yes, but a simple scope adjustment will work well for both. Thanks for watching.
It would be interesting to see how those do in a bolt action, break breech, or other action. Did the slower, CFE powder seem to "gas" you more than the Benchmark? If your goal was 3300, I think 50 fps short would be made up by the tighter groups of the Benchmark. Good shooting as always.
CFE-223 provides better results with the 55-60gn Hornady Vmax projectiles.
Hate all the disclaimers you need to know
Yes, the RUclips auditors are sometimes very demanding indeed.
bench mark looks better
Agree with the Nosler 55gn. But with the Vmax, CFE-223 gives me both speed and accuracy for hunting purposes.
Great testing and awesome info Dave. I'd love to see you test w/Benchmark and use small rifle magnum primers and see what the results would be. Hope you and the family had a great Thanksgiving and will see you next time. God bless
Small rifle magnum primers are reserved for the 6mm ARC, 6.5 Grendel and 300 Ham'r with heavier bullets. And they work quite well in those cartridges.
Man I sure have enjoyed my Grendel. I to have had great accuracy for varment rounds I like that Hornady 95gr. Vmax another that has got me kinda giddy is the Sierra 105 gr. Blitz king . I just got some Sierra tgk 130 for my creedmoor but after watching your heavy video I'm real curious what the Grendel can do with them. Have you put any of them down the barrel of the Grendel. Just subbed thank you sir good videoes
123gn is the heaviest I have shot in my Grendel. I encourage you to see my Grendel playlist with over 25 Grendel videos. Thanks for the Sub.
I would like to see .243 -vs- Rem 6mm -vs- 6mm Creedmoor ......... and separately see 6.5 Creedmoor -vs- 6.5-284 Norma.
I am sure those comparisons are on RUclips somewhere.
Dave. Good video and shooting. Nice workup on the powders. Thanks for sharing and take care.
Thanks Bobcat!
Good work as always! I've been wondering about these two powders. Thanks for conducting this test and sharing.
Thanks for watching.
I enjoy your vids very much Dave. I use the 55gr Varmageddons in my 22-250👍
Thanks Paul, for your kind words here.
It's funny how sometimes bullet manufacturers and powder manufacturers load data doesn't jive. I just shot some 95 grain Hornady Ballistic Tips loaded for my .260 with Winchester 760 powder that clocked at 3346fps average and still under a max charge from Hodgdon's loading data. I was using Hornady brass and got a little heavy bolt lift. The Hornady manual only loads theirs to around 3100 fps and a lighter max charge. I loaded the rounds before I acquired a Hornady manual and I have seen quite the opposite with some Speer data I even called Hodgdon and verified their charge against Speers. This was for .243 Winchester and 60 grain Speer Hot Cor the Speer max load was pitifully slow. Best to use a chronograph of some kind I still have a Magnetospeed but am spoiled to the Garmin I bought earlier this year. It only has failed to pick up four shots and three was due to being too close to a muzzle brake on my .458 SOCOM. Good news to me about the CFE 223 as I have several pounds of it available. Thanks for the report.
Have fun and best wishes for your loads.
I'm using 60 gr Hammer Hunters and 65 gr SGK in my RRA R3 Competition with 18" barrel and 1:7 twist. I just wish H4198 was available because that's the powder that worked best for me. The second best powder that worked for those loads was H322. Good luck, and stay safe!!! 😉😉😉
Thanks for watching and for your comments here.
Oooh.. I have a ton of Hornady 55gn bullets, and both powders (I've only loaded the CFE223 in 6.5 G).. this makes me want to see how fast I can get them going.. and maybe order some Noslers ;)
Thanks for watching and for your comments here.
Nice, I'm going to try loading the 62gr eldvt for my first loads in a new 22arc with a shaw barrel using benchmark. I'm hoping to get at least 3200 with them. Id love to get the es and sd's you saw. I have some 40gr varmageddon's but I'm worried that they'll spin apart and go poof! Those noslers should work well, id imagine. Thanks, enjoyed the video.
Best wishes for you and your new 22 ARC. Thanks for your comment here.
Never loaded either in 223/556. Good stuff Dave!!
Good mornin' CW! And Thanks
I get one hole groups with benchmark and h4895 using 40 grain Nosler ballistic tips and 60 grain vmax. I like benchmark! The 40 grain I use 27 grains of benchmark and 60 grain I use 25 grains. H4895 I’m at 25.2 grains. They group about the same…all around .3” at 200 yards.
.3" at 200 yards is indeed Fantastic. Thanks for watching.
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 its the guns....a LTR 700 and POF P415
I run light bullets in 223 bolt gun. 40gr vmax pushed by H335 gives me .31 MOA & 3575 avg fps. I don't give my charge weights, just because! I get 3775 with H335 & 35ge Hornady NTX. I know what vmax do to prairie dogs, but the NTX new for me. NTX will shoot .42 MOA
Hey Dave, thanks for sharing! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
Hope you did also. Wait 'till you see my upcoming video that is a "6.8" but not what you and others may think. HaHa!
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 I look forward to it. It'll be a fun one. It'll be interesting to see the power factor difference with the spc.
This is great to see. I’ll soon have a 6arc howa mini here in Australia and I hope I get these sorts of velocities and I hope good brass life too. I wonder how many reloads you get without brass issues? Been waiting a year, it could still be months away, I think everyone goes to sleep in election years. They seem so similar in energy on game that I went for 6arc, in between 6.5G and 22ARC. I hope the howa mini mag length allows flexibility in hand loads.
No matter the various cartridges of the many calibers I own, I discard all brass after the 4th loading. I know people do more reloads past the 4th, but for me and my near max loads, case consistency degrades faster than lower charges.
@ interesting, this is making my mind learn some principles. Thankyou. I’m making a realisation that all these small cartridges with their claims to efficient velocities are pushing the little cartridges too hard, and hence the shorter brass life. I now understand why people say other cartridges can achieve the velocity with less pressure. As we grow to 243Win and 6creed we get those velocities more reliably it would seem. I look forward to reloading 6arc Hornady factory loads with 65gr vmax for foxes and have 223-like ballistics and I’ll reserve good quality brass for the heavier loads with higher pressure. At least that’s my logic if Hornady brass suffers after 4 firings.
@@joeyzagari4155 I discard all cases after 4-5 firings, regardless of if it is a newer or older legacy caliber cartridge, not because of case damage but mainly because of case trimming and the thinning of the case neck ie; (neck tension, bullet grip.)
I had a gunsmith friend who reamed 8mm mausers to 8-06AI. Really big difference in ballistics. His idea was if you have to handload, get the most out of it.
Thanks for watching and commenting here.
Guten Tag Herr Strohmeyer, do you still speak / understand German or is it all gone by now?
No German, only American English.
Thanks, did you ever follow up on where your folks originated in Germany?
@@johnlong7504 My Great Grandparents immigrated to the USA in the 1890's from the Bavarian region, between Munich and near the Austrian border. I forgot the name of the village.
Thanks, take care and shoot safe!
Hi Sir, I just received the 24"SS416 from Anderson, assembling everything now.
Best wishes for you and your rifle. Thanks for watching.
The big problem of factory rifles in 5,6 and 6 mm calibers is for my opinion the senseless twist rate for longer (havier) bullets. For taht reason i customized my Remington Police with an 8" twist barrel and system blue print and now i have a real match grade hunting rifle.😜
Longer, higher BC bullets for competition seem to be driving the current demand from bullet makers, therefore fast twist barrels are the norm.
The folks that messed with the 25-06 found it could be moved to magnum status with IMR 4831 and 26" barrels. I have owned a couple over the years a still have one fine caliber. Popular here in PA believe it or not.
Agree. Thanks for watching.
"When regular cores slip, hot cores grip".
Good slogan. Thanks for watching.
Creedmore is so much better than the rest, see how accurate those shots were?
why not compare 30 .06 and30 .03 British
Would be a good comparison, but I haven't owned a Enfield 303 for 45 years. Others on RUclips have covered them well enough.
That old jeweled bolt BDR in 22-250. All. Day. Long
Congratulations on getting some demos, One thing about being lock into an acra rail is you can just grab your rifle and walk away with it. To set up and look for more rock chucks lol.. instead of breaking it all down. Next time get your favorite chair and get the tripod to that height. That is the most enjoyment of shooting for me these days just a few more months and rock chucks will be out.. happy Thanksgiving
Yes, I agree. Happy Thanks giving to you.
Good stuff

Great products. I really like the sling steadying on the tripod leg. Almost as accurate as shooting from a bench! Would be a lot less wounded animals if people shot from a stable position such as you have shown.
Agree. But no matter what there is no substitute for field practice. I am still learning.
Good shooting! I already have a BOG, so not in the market. Continue using that one and see how durable it is over time. Those leg angle lever/buttons are interesting, their durability will be tested with every use. That 66 pound limit is pretty nice. 👍👍
Compared to my other Tripod, this one is much more stable. So far, So good.

I just ordered these last night. The fact that the pocket gauges screw into a handle sold me since my Ballistic Tools gauges are small in diameter anger old Arthur Itis. I also wanted the pocket uniformers, so the kit gives me all that and more. Now I'm eyeing their anneal/brass prep station.
Good products indeed.
Your velocity results have me very interested in what i have my handloads running at? Iirc i came up with a charge of 46.5gr (no chronograph), i was able to print a group in both mine and my brothers Tikka t3x of under 1"@ 150yds with hornady CX 165gr running max length to fit factory 308 mag, the tikkas' we have a LONG freebore and loves non lead ammo (3006 mag coming up to run longer) I started at 43gr and ladder charged up to 48gr there was no charge charts available to me 1.5-years ago for non lead ammo, used a powder burn comparison chart and started at the lower middle end for i believe Varget. I chose StaBall for its supposed temperature stability in the deer woods, 20* in the morning to 85* in the shade is not uncommon during deer season in Northern CA
Sounds like you found your loads. Thanks for watching.
