Ringworld Engineers p4: Trapped! (Fixed)
I think the Rama sequels completely ruin it. But I consider them fanfics instead os sequels.
You must read "Protector" before "Ringworld". By reading "Protector" you get clues as to the origins of "Ringworld", about the builders. Louis Wu and his companions first contact with the Ring leads you to believe that the Engineers installed "twing" portals at the spaceports. If you catch that clue you realise it must be the Protectors that built it. Then in the second book, "Ringworld Engineers", it is revealed that "tree of life root" is growing on the Ring. Then you catch up to Lucky Teela Brown who has turned into a Protector. Also in Protector you learn about the breeding lottery on Earth. This is reiterated and expanded in the "Ringworld" novel.
Nicole DeJardin was the original Rey… easily the most obnoxiously self righteous protagonist I’d ever read in a book.
No, not another bad rendition from a bad director. Please don’t let him destroy another one.
why haven't you done a video for the 4th rama book?
I found a copy of Ringworld in a second hand bookshop years ago, and have read it several times. Amazing book, love it. I'm going on holiday over Christmas and New Year, I'll take it with me and read it again.
Tbh the following books and story were quite good but written in a completely different style with far more character background than was needed, some of that being a slog. But the concepts were interesting as were the various aliens. I would recommend having a look.
I read each of the Rama episodes as they came out - so long ago! One thing that struck me and has stayed: at some point, an explanation is given that the creators of Rama serve almost as gardeners in the universe - 'curating' species development. But in this garden, while some are developed, others have to be (for unexplained reasons), culled. Weeds that are pulled. And humans' fate? Not explained! An original series indeed. Thanks for the memories!
This Irish boy spent almost a minute telling us, how he wants to save us time. Kudos!
Irish?! How the f do you hear Irish in this voice?
Finally Kamala Harris makes sense!!! If you can say it with conviction, it becomes true!!!
*Regarding the external impact.* After reading all comments on that, I would suggest any object traveling with tangential momentum of about 900 km/h would act as a deflector, similar to a bat swiping away a ball. (Like hitting a mass from the side, its angular momentum would deflect most of its kinetic energy at an obtuse angle away from the cylinder. As long as the impact was below a certain velocity. This would leave a smear on the surface of the cylinder.
The sequals were awful.
I just don’t see a movie in this book!
lol, “Jimmy Pack” smuggling a ultralight on a sophisticated/one of a kind mission, man, I want to see the dumb thing in the movie, let me guess, he’s identifying as a woman (for the modern audiences)
We need a whole set of movies about this. I just hope they are not woke.
If the purpose of SF is just a vehicle to show off scientific ideas then just read a schematic. Nope. Something is happening. The self loathing cults, porn, a cannabis shop on every corner, even these little shallow adventure Recaps. Don’t blindly go up that gang plank….. Al……” To serve Man….It’s …it’s a cookbook”!
✨️Patience, a young woman with a destiny she cannot escape, embarks on a perilous journey to confront her fate. Along the way, she encounters a dark and enigmatic figure known as the Unwyrm, a creature of immense power and mystery. Despite his monstrous form, Patience feels an unexplainable pull towards him, a mix of fear and fascination. As she delves deeper into her quest, Patience discovers that the Unwyrm is not just a beast but a being with a complex past and a soul tormented by his own existence. Her mission becomes a twisted dance of danger and desire, as she must decide whether to destroy him or save him, knowing that her own heart hangs in the balance. In the end, Patience's journey is one of self-discovery and the realization that sometimes, the lines between good and evil, love and hate, are not as clear as they seem.
The sequels, for the first time made feel like burning books.
I wish there wish there was an audio book
Just read this this year, good stuff.
So good! Thank you for making these stories available to us!
What a fantastic channel.
Really enjoyed this! 2nd book?
The short answer is YES read them all.
i had an engineering breakthrough today and tore a tree out of the ground the shaped of a T and was using it as a walking stick. a very overexxagerated grip is required to move with it as an extension of limb. a ghillie suit of big foot but alot more handicapped and disabled looking. no grace, hunched momentum. long powerstroke pendulum swinging limbs and the bouncing fur releases a kinetic rumble or generates heat and static. sounds like a circuit ready to pop
The first book was okay. The next two were boring.
I've probably read this book over a dozen times since I was 13 years old. Now I'm almost 50.
your art work does not reflect the books!
I'm still hoping for movie versions of Greg Bear's - EON series and Scalzi's - Old Mans War series of books.
It was great revisiting this book with illustrations. Thank you. I remember it all the crabs, the cities. The blades of the sun.
The 2001 series got me into Clarke. I liked Childhoods End. That would make an awesome movie. Rama really interested me. I only read the first one.
I don’t think the author expected someone to check the math of the ship.
Could Biots patch up a hole in the hull? If so then a collision may have left damage that was fixed. The stain could be from applied younger material of the fix.
Great video hope you cover the fleet of worlds series later
I apologize that the music is a little loud at points. RUclips equalizes the sound when I upload. So it's always difficult to keep the music quiet, but still loud enough to hear. Normally I would have re-uploaded the video after adjusting the volume, but my internet has been extremely slow the last few days and it took almost 8 hrs to upload this video, not giving me time to review it before posting as I normally do.
1st
Have you considered using sapient instead of sentient?
Do woman do any good nice roles in this saga, is there nothing to eagerly look forward to? 😅
really underrated
Excellent narration. Thank you.
Great content, really, but the book is unbelievingly boring. Arthur is killing you with unbelievable amount of details. Basically the book is about describing a space ship/world that is very boring and nothing really happens there. I would probably never read anything from him any more. Ok, it was maybe interesting back then, but today is kind of dull.
I never even look at the pictures because I have your videos playing in the background. It wasn't until just now that I discovered that you have an animated character on screen (you don't need to bother with that).
Brilliant novel! A true gem of hard sci-fi, unfortunately diluted in the sequels.
The sequels explain too much. Same for the 2001 trilogy. Leaving the reader with doubts and unsolved misteries is much better
I hope he won't do absurd changes like he did on Dune
Most people’s understanding of AI is based exclusively on poorly written science fiction.
This guys channel is amazing! It’s criminal how many subs he has bc his stuff is great!
