Rock Tumbling Tips for Beginners: Rock Tumbling 101
definitely an option for someone. Personally I am not that someone. 😊
Oh my goodness....where did you find these?!?!?😊
Howdy, Jen! 👋🏼 In the Cambria and San Simeon area. Specifically here: g.co/kgs/u48AGdm. It's best around low tide and after storms!! My favorite California Central Coast beach!! Do you rockhound? ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️
LOL!!!😅❤
HOWDY, Carolyn! 👋🏼 Yaaay, I made you laugh! ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️
Omg 😂😂twinn!!!!❤ where have u been ik your soul❤❤❤❤this is my sister from another mister!!!! 😂😊we speak same rock language 😂❤
HOWDY, MICHELLE!! 👋🏼😁 HA, you just made my day! Are you a SPAZ, too? And loves ROCKS?! SO nice to meet you, my fellow rockhound sister!! EEEEE!! ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️
Wow, lots of gorgeous ones, pretty colors, material and all around what a beautiful fun beach!!!!
Thank you!! I wish I was there NOW! Have a fantastic day!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️
@@CacklingChick same, you too!
Thank you!!
I have sprayed shells but not rocks. Kinda feel like spraying rocks is cheating. I can see where spraying can save time and give the same effects. Nice
Howdy, Elizabeth! 👋🏼 Great idea to spray shells! Not everyone has the time, space, or money to tumble, though. Plus, a lot of people prefer rocks with character vs. overly smooth. It's good to have options! Thanks for the shell tip! SPRAY ON!! 😁👋🏼💨🪨
😅 You certanly are a cackling chick!! ❤
HOWDY! 👋🏼 Yes, that I am. Definitely known for my laugh/cackle all my life. Hope I didn't scare ya away! Do you rockhound and/or tumble rocks by chance? ROCK ON! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️
That's one of the prettiest rocks I've seen
Howdy! Yes, these are really beautiful and interesting. Think of the geology that occurred to make that beauty! I find these now and them on this beach, actually! 😁👍🏻
Sooooo many pretty colors, love that, great day!
HOWDY!! 👋🏼 Yes, a literal rockhound CANDY STORE! I hope you're doing well, my friend! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️
@CacklingChick doing good, been sick lately, but first day I'm starting to feel like myself again! Hope you are well too, how's the weather over there!
Glad you're on the mend!! It’s finally cooling off and briefly wore long pants for the first time in months. Any snow there yet?
@CacklingChick not yet, have a warm front that came through, upper 70s, but its going to be in the 40s this weekend and on.
Oh wow, toasty day for this time of year! 😁
Wow! 🤩
And YEE HAW!!!
Sooooo pretty 😍
YESSS!!!
You sound like Sarah Palin lol cool rocks.
HOWDY! 👋🏼 Well, that's a new one I haven't heard! I'm just ME! Yes, the rocks are freaking AMAZING at this beach. ROCK ON! 😁👍🏻🪨💦
oh my lord
HOWDY! 👋🏼 Yup, a rock cady store!! 😁👍🏻🪨💦
For more delicate rocks, I keep a container of them with my acrylic pours and use any leftover acrylic to coat them. They are shiny and safe from the ravages of the tumbler.
HOWDY! 👋🏼 Brilliant! Can I assume it's a basic acrylic clear gloss paint you use on rocks? I've never used acrlic paints. Do tell! Please and thank you! ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨🎨
@@CacklingChick Sorry. I misspoke. I meant to say I use resin, (I miss my brain).
Ah, ok! I've seen that look and agree it works well, too. Thank you!
I came here because I don’t have a tumbler, and stayed for your personality! You are so silly and fun I love people like you. Great rock collection!
HOWDY, Brian! 👋🏼 I'm so glad I didn't scare you away. Are you going to spray your rocks? I think it works great. Sometimes, tumbling is overrated, but it's great to have options. Let me know!! POLISH ON!! 😁👍🏻💨🪨
Moonstone isn’t chalcedony, it’s a feldspar like labradorite (in fact ‘rainbow moonstone’ isn’t moonstone it’s actually white labradorite).
HOWDY, Sela! 👋🏼 That's interesting! Almost every time I talk to someone about the "moonstones" along that part of the coast, I hear them being referred to as something completely different. Mindat is a great resource and seems to also refer to them as chalcedony (agates). 🤷🏼♀️ www.mindat.org/loc-45245.html Again, interesting!!
hey can you tell me the name of that beach? I love rockhounding and id love to go there
HOWDY, CatBigJump! 👋🏼 Yup, here you go! g.co/kgs/J5D1ozJ. Go around low tide, and it's best after storms to expose more rocks. I hope you can go! ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️
So many beautiful colors in those rocks!
HOWDY, Gia! 👋🏼 Yes, the rocks are like a 🌈 of Skittles! I'm glad you came rockhounding with me. ROCK ON! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️
I love the spray, but the tumbled are so gorgeous. Thank you for sharing this technique with us. You are awesome!!!!
HOWDY, Kristi! 👋🏼 I agree tumbled is superior, but I'm glad you also like the spray. It's great to have options depending on the type of rock or no patience, space or moola to get a tumbler! I appreciate your feedback more than you know. Thank YOU!! POLISH ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨💦
@ it is great to have options and this one looks good.
Yes, ma'am! 😁👍🏻🪨💦
IT IS PERFECT EASY LAZY PATH , YOU ARE SO SMART
HOWDY, Mazda! 👋🏼 Lazy? 🤔
Our you can't access it! Me,river,small islands . You need a boat!😢
Yup, such is life sometimes!! We remember these things but just have to find another place to rockhound, beachcomb or whatever. 😁👍🏻
Would you give us more details on the solution, mom?
HOWDY! Sure, buy a can of Rust-Oleum spray and try it. 😂
Rock hound here! Montana has the same stones, Yellowstone River.
HOWDY, Diane! 👋🏼 Wow, really? I've been to Montana, but never the Yellowstone River. YET! It's on my list. I had no idea they had such colorful stones there. I follow some Montana rockhounding channels and see lots of semi-clear AGATES! ROCK ON! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️
@@CacklingChick yes! I have Soo many of your stones! Also a very good collection of good Montana agents to. Do you want to see, want some? I'm very sick and have no one to pass on to. Not sad, just want to give them a good home!!
I'm so sorry to hear you're very sick! I wish you a speedy recovery! I'd love to see them. If you want, you can post pictures of them on my subreddit www.reddit.com/r/CacklingChick/s/JTrgjwwTFG Take care, lady!! 🤗
I've never used any other method than tumbling, rotary, vibratory, and hand polishing fossils. I like the idea of using something like this for rocks that i like that are nontumblerable (did i just make up a new word?) I like both polished and au naturel'
HOWDY! Non-tumblerable! I like that! YES, you just made a new word. 🥳👍🏻 I'm curious how you hand polish your fossils! 🧐 I agree, polished and au naturel are great depending on the rock, no tumbler, etc. ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨💦
Thanks for watching! Do you have a favorite method for polishing rocks without a tumbler? Share your tips below! ROCK ON!! 😁⛏🪨💦
Ty too much fun!
HOWDY, Ruby! 👋🏼 Yay, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Have you tried fingernail polish or another method? POLISH ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨💦
Thats a great idea, i might just try that! Also maybe some mineral or linseed oil. It lasts a while, I use it on my exterior woods…
HOWDY, Mark! 👋🏼 Yes, you should try it as it works very well. I have my rocks in a display tray on my coffee table, and they compliment my tumbled rocks perfectly! Great idea to try linseed oil. Thanks! POLISH ON!! 😁👍🏻💦🪨
@@CacklingChick yes, I just happen to have a can of gloss, plus a ton of nice rocks!
Sweet!! Let me know if you think it's a YAY or MEH! 😂👍🏻
@@CacklingChick I will thanks… !
🥳👍🏻
Who and where to sell my stone at/too
HOWDY, Wobb! 👋🏼 Have you tried Etsy? ROCK ON!! 😀👍🏻🪨⛏️
wow thats a lot of good rocks i should probably rockhound there sometime
HOWDY, Joseph! You should, especially around low tide and after a good storm to expose more rocks. Here's the exact spot: maps.app.goo.gl/d9bEBo8fcYeBH3216
Clean and then 1/2 oz mineral oil
Thank you! Ha, I'm actually working on a video for this! Thanks! 😁👍🏻🪨💦
Use 1 oz mineral spirits in your tumbler
HOWDY, Adrian! 👋🏼 What does that do? Just rocks and mineral spirits and nothing else? DO TELL!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️
I lived just south of there in Cayucos back in late 70's/early 80's. Dang I miss beachcombing there! We go back occasionally but I really miss living there
HOWDY! 👋🏼 Wow, what a life to have lived there. I'm envious! I agree that beachcombing is so fun. That's great you still visit there!! Did you collect shells, too? ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨💦
@@CacklingChick Yes! Rocks and shells, along with driftwood and whatever else I could find. Agate, jasper, jade, petrified wood and shells like abalone which is very scarce now. Also lots of sand dollars of all sizes down to dime size. Pretty little rock oyster shells too with the pearly green insides. My spirit lives there still
Yesssss!!! Your description is so perfect! I'm pretty sure that small shell in this video is abalone, right? Thanks for sharing your memories. Absolutely love it!!
@@CacklingChick Yes it's abalone. Very rare these days. Like finding hen's teeth! When I was a teen, the beaches were covered with abalone shells. it's sad
Thank you! Thought so. Yes, it's definitely rare to find. I've heard stories of the awesome rocks on Moonstone Beach, but sadly, it's mostly pea-sized gravel now. I have some videos on some Moonstone Beach finds, though. Incredible finds! Thanks again!
THANKS FOR SHARING. IMPRESSIVE. I LOVE THE IDEA. GREAT EXPECTATIONS.
HOWDY, Errol! 👋🏼 You're very welcome! Let me know if you try it as I'd love to know if it's a YAY or MEH!! POLISH ON!! 😁👍🏻💨🪨
I'd have to list the beach as my address. I've never seen ocean waters. I like seeing what you find. You always find goodies. Rock on
HA, ditto! I'd a beach full of pretty rocks any day. I hope you can see the ocean sometime. It's wonderful! Thank you! ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨💦
I use DeltaCeramcoat All-Purpose Sealer to put a wet-look on all my agates.
HOWDY, Knotweed! 👋🏼 Ha, never heard of that. Thanks, I'll have to try that. Does it take long to dry? Is it permanent? POLISH ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨💦
Dito sa Ilocos sur madam maramina ako naipon❤❤❤🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭mga ganyan mga bato ibaiban klase madam❤❤❤
HOWDY, Danny, from the Philippines!! Wow, so nice to meet you, my fellow rockhound! Your beaches look so beautiful!! I bet the rocks are so pretty as well. I'm Googling for the type of rocks there... ROCK ON!! 😄👍🏻🪨⛏️
I use modge podge they come out great.
HOWDY! 👋🏼 That's so awesome to hear! It's on my list to try. Thank you for letting me know it works great. POLISH ON!! 😄👍🏻🪨💦
Amazing beach🤩
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I hope you can go to the beach soon! ROCK ON!! 😄👍🏻🪨⛏️
Where country please reply
HOWDY! 👋🏼 Moonstone Beach, California, USA!! What country are you in? ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️ maps.app.goo.gl/SDB65sqqqt8jonFn7
Nope I do it . 😂
YAAAAAY!! Glad I'm not the only one!! GO, YOU!! 😁👍🏻🪨💦
You found some beauties
Howdy! 👋🏼 Thank you! Yes, not hard to do at my FAVORITE beach so far: g.co/kgs/3Q9Qe1U How are you doing? 😁
Look at those beautiful I'll take the 2 green ones please 😅
HOWDY, Richie! 👋🏼 Haha! They're like slightly bigger M & M's or Skittles! Hee hee! Ok, comin' right up, sir! 😁👍🏻🪨💦
Rocks of every color!
HOWDY, Nancy! 👋🏼 Heck yeah! It's literally a candy store on that beach. Incredible finds and the colors are incredible. Especially when wet, of course! I'm glad you came rockhounding with me!! ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️
Tumbler🎉
Howdy, Tioga! 👋🏼 Tumbler for the WIN!! 🏆 I agree rocks look better run through a tumbler, but good to have options depending on the rocks being fragile, lack of space, money, etc.! Thanks for stopping by! TUMBLE ON!! 😃👍🏻🪨💦
I would watch if you posted several videos like this every day, at this beach. The endless variety, colors, and peacefulness is irresistible!
HOWDY, ANNIE! 👋🏼 I'll remember that and do more videos for you when I make another trip there. I totally agree with you. Everything about it is pure HEAVEN! Thanks for the feedback, as I make these videos for you! ROCK ON!! 😃👍🏻🪨💦
her laugh got me rolling on the floor.
Howdy, Kylie! 👋🏼 YAY, glad I made you laugh and hopefully didn't scare you away! 😂 Do you rockhound? ROCK ON!! 😃👍🏻🪨⛏️
You went for the one I would have 😅.. those are beautiful great spot
HOWDY, Richie! 👋🏼 Oh, good! I wouldn't want to disappoint afellow rockhound. Thank you. It's one of my favorite spots so far!! ROCK ON!! 😃👍🏻🪨⛏️
@@CacklingChick we might have to do a trade info for a spot for spot trade 😂😂
Happy to share! It's usually mostly pea-sized gravel, though! Moonston Beach in Cambri, California! ROCK ON!! 😃👍🏻🪨⛏️ maps.app.goo.gl/xeBR8d5k9F3JoEkA9
I just started to use finger nail polish. It works real well too.
HOWDY, April! 👋🏼 Smart! What a coincidence, as I have a video coming out on Sunday about using fingernail polish! Glad to know this works well. I agree!! ROCK ON!! 😁👍🏻🪨⛏️
I absolutely shined my rocks
HOWDY, Live! 👋🏼 With Rust-Oleum spray, I assume? ROCK ON!! 😃👍🏻💨🪨
I think it depends on the rock and also whether you want them completely smooth. I get much more pleasure from using nail polish than a rock tumbler. I like the unevenness. However, some rocks are so weathered, that tumbling enhances them in a way, painting them can't. I do not understand the crowd that dismisses painting outright. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Painting also allows people with limited space, income, to enjoy their collections more. I am glad you posted this. When I run out of my current supply of nail polish, I will try it. I use nail polish exclusively on what I call my "littles." Rocks that are tiny versions of bigger rocks, I have found. When I have to downsize, in my old age, I hope to take my "littles" with me.
HOWDY, Diann! 👋🏼 OMG, I literally made a video TODAY on using nail polish that I'll post next weekend. Everything you said is EXACTLY why nail polish IS a perfectly valid option for polishing rocks instead of all the hassles that come with tumbling. Wow, it's like you had a camera over my head today!! I love your positive outlook, and "littles" is so cute and accurate. Let me know if you try the Rust-Oleum spray method and what you think. ROCK ON!! 😃👍🏻🪨⛏️
I found your comment adorable lol. I love that you named them littles and plan on keeping them forever.
I agree her comment and rock name is great!!
I ❤❤❤❤❤ agate gemstone
HOWDY! 👋🏼 Me, too!! Do you have agates in your area? I don't, but there are some along the coast like in this video. ROCK ON!! 😃👍🏻🪨⛏️
