Swinaecologist Vocal Cover (one take)

I've been trying to get a perfect run of this song for about 6 weeks now, but between only having time to record on the weekends, and my voice not feeling super great from using it all day at work, I settled on this take. Aside from the obvious voice crack at 1:36, I think I did a pretty good job with it.

How Fry Screams Work - Biomechanics of Fry Screams
Просмотров 4464 месяца назад
TLDR: Fry screaming is essentially singing or belting, while isometrically contracting the vocalis/TA muscles, and the cricothyroid muscles. This tensions the true cords while they vibrate, and slows down or alters their vibrations to produce distortion. Email me at Screamtheoryvocalcoaching@gmail.com

I spent 2 months practicing this one. Its a very fun song, despite how graphic the lyrics are. Techniques - Every scream I performed was a hybrid scream, combing false cord and fry screams simultaneously. Except for the tunnel throats, those are all fry.

Very helpful and the in-depth details are a chef's kiss. Side note, I like how happy you looked while presenting how much space you have now.
Thanks. I’m just so excited I don’t have to record in my closet anymore lmao
huge congrats on the PhD!!! and thank you for all these amazing videos. Your false cord program helped me IMMENSELY ❤ you should do a video on how to sound like Tom Barber (like Psalms in Lorna Shore)
Thank you! Unfortunately the DPT degree is not a phd. I would have to do another 3 years of school for that. It’s considered a clinical doctorate degree which is kind of a dumb distinction but I appreciate your kind words. I’ll take a look at Tom Barber’s style. I haven’t spent a lot of time practicing to him but it sounds like he heavily bases his distortion on false cord screaming.
Thanks for the lesson! Very very useful
i did it

This is the best tutorial I’ve seen so far. Gonna keep practicing :)
Thank you for your kind words. But please instead watch my most recent “Fry screaming exercise program”. I promise you it’s 1000 times better than anything I said in this video. I made this video two years ago and I’ve learned a lot more since then. The exercise program is straightforward and will show you exactly what skills you need to develop in order to fry scream.
This is sick dude, but why do you do tunnel lows with fry? they sound so much powerful with fc
I usually do them with false cord, but I was trying to sound more like storm strope on his part. Check out my cover of swinaecologist. I think you’ll approve of the lows in that one lol
Thank you for the video! I've found the way to activate my false chords using just a little bit of air, but my current problem is that when I swallow saliva it's hard to re-locate the feeling I and have to work it for a few seconds to reactivate them again, do you have any advice for this problem? Thanks ✌
Well the first question I have is, how long have you been practicing with your false cords? What you are describing would not be out of the ordinary for a beginner, but most people start to get pretty good control over their false cords in 2-4 weeks of regularly using them. My second question is, are you sure that you are engaging your false cords? If you aren't, you can send me an email with a recording and I can give you some feedback! Screamtheoryvocalcoaching@gmail.com
@@Scream-Theory well actually I've been totally focused on learning how to fry scream first but this friday I saw a tutorial of Daniel Wu about false chords and follow his steps, I've notice a pretty comfortable vibration wich also I've a lot of control over it, it's the exact same effect you show at the begining of the video, so I combined what I learned about fry scream with this effect and I got a pretty good distortion and control, but when I swallow saliva I lost this vibration aproach and I have "search it" again. Thank you! I willl send you an email right away
@@Scream-Theory I sent you the email dude, thanks a lot
Hello everyone. I never expected this video to get as many views as it did. This video is almost 2 years old and my older videos are not my best work. I have learned a lot in these last couple years and achieved my doctorate degree in physical therapy. I have recently released a fry screaming exercise program, and my goal was to make it the most straightforward and comprehensive fry screaming guide available. It contains many exercises to develop all the skills needed to be successful with fry screaming, and a much better explanation of how to produce the distortion, and how the fry scream works biomechanically. Feel free to watch this video if you want to, but I would highly recommend just going to the introductory video of my fry screaming program. Thank you to everyone has supported my channel over the years.
Nice video. What mic are you using?
Shure SM7B. A lot of metal vocalists use this mic. It’s meant for podcasting so it gives you a really crisp ASMR like sound. It’s a super common mic too, so you could find one used for way cheaper than new.
@@Scream-Theory Yes, I am seeing that mic all over youtube. Thank you for replay.

Awesome ❤

great exercises, feel like they really set me up a for a good fry scream
been waiting for this one lets go
This is nuts, thank you!
Finally!! I've been waiting for the fry scream program for a while, the false cord ones helped me a lot, thanks for all your work
Thank you! Phase 3 will be uploaded in the next few weeks.
Been doing harsh vocals for almost a decade now. All kinds of false chord screaming. My channel is a good example. I truly feel my voice is different than most. I've been trying to learn fry screaming for years and I think I'm gonna accept that my voice just isn't capable of doing it. Any method of finding that placement just never work. When i do get any sort of distortion it hurts like hell. False chords came 100% naturally to me and I am self taught. I.. Just don't think fry screaming is for me. Great videos though. But man if I ever could do it, I'd be unstoppable. Oh well.
I’m actually very close to finishing a fry screaming exercise program that should be uploaded within the next week or so. I guarantee you this is going to show you the exact steps you need to find the distortion. It will have specific exercises to help you gain the skills needed to fry scream, and it will even include recorded lessons with me and multiple of my students where I guide them to find the distortion so you can see the exact process of a beginner learning to get the distortion.
Also if you want to email me, I am very confident I can teach you how to fry scream. Screamtheoryvocalcoaching@gmail.com

@@Scream-Theory lol. Pejter was gloomy cuz he couldn't do pig squels, but made himself happy by doing gurgly gutturals - not a tongue twister with alliterations, but still a lot of words starting with consonants
Bro can u gives us a tutorial how to do this voice?
I can. That sounds like a good video idea. but its essentially just me doing a low pitched false cord scream, with less air pressure so my false cords are vibrating with less energy. And I artificially lowered the pitch using my DAW. I don't think it is possible to do the doom voice naturally. You would have to have a REALLY deep voice. Hope this helps.
After 2 years and 10's of videos. This video helped my muscles click to where i found the start. Now i just need practice.
well, I’m currently working on a full exercise program for Fry screaming. I find that a lot of people might figure out how to produce the sound but still don’t develop all the skills they need to be successful. so I’m making a straightforward program with exercises to develop those skills. Should be uploaded within a few weeks.
@@Scream-Theory that will definitely help a lot.
This helped me hit a new PR on my rack squats.
Tensed up? Tense what up and where? how?...
The self-reassuring "that was cool"
Wtf just why
Your cooked 💀
The helium hits like a train 😂
Seems that I've arrived at soft fry just naturally, but I can't add volume to it :\
I developed MTD from learning how to scream. I had a laryngoscopy and they told me I had no vocal issues , it was all tense muscles. So I got a speech a therapist and now I’m freeing up my voice again. Debating if I wana try screaming again. Basically I got subharmonics and throat singing confused and used to scream using subharmonics and always developing a hoarse voice and just didn’t know why. I hate giving up on things ,I just always loved this kinda music since a kid it’s hard to let go lol. I’m going to use this video as my guide. Before , I was watching countless videos and just getting so confused and overthinking everything. Your explanation is very helpful in not over complicating this
THIS is why I constantly harp on the importance of staying relaxed and using proper vocal projection. many of the exercises I give to my students in private lessons are MTD exercises to help relax the laryngal muscles. I’ve worked with so many people who learned to scream with way too much tension in their voice. people associate loudness with clenching their laryngeal muscles. the funny thing is I get MTD from speaking too much. I’ve learned to scream and sing in a very relaxed way, but using my voice all day at work makes my entire larynx lock up.
@@Scream-Theory I think so many people clench their muscles because they hear terms like "upper constriction and lower constriction" or compression and start to over complicate it. I hope you find a way to balance your voice at work so you're not dealing with the MTD. I had it so bad I could hardly swallow or laugh. Stretching out my tongue front and side to side with gauze always helps me, as also recommended by my speech therapist. Also, speaking with a semi-twangy voice so I can be louder or more dynamic without trying helps me.
Please can you make a video focusing on resonance and projection?
I am planning to go into vocal projection exercises in detail in my fry screaming exercise program that I am currently working on. But practicing clean singing and any singing exercises will help. You just need to stand tall with good posture, open up your mouth and throat, and try to get your voice loud while also trying to keep your true cords as relaxed as possible. You should feel the resonance high up in the back of your mouth. It takes a few weeks of practice to really get solid vocal projection.
Dude thanks for mentioning practicing in soft fry. I've been doing this a ton and really feel like it's been beneficial to me but I wasn't sure if it would actually transfer in normal volume.
Yea soft fry helps you figure out the right positioning to produce the distortion, but in order to make it loud, you have to learn to belt, and try to enter the soft fry positioning while belting.
Thanks man its insane you actually helped me to understand what was i suppose to feel inside
8:30 OMG YES! HELLFIRE BY LORNA SHORE THATS INCREDIBLE YOURE FANTASTIC IM SUBBING LOL
How do you get instrumentals for these songs
This guy named Ben Carper is making a program that uses AI to remove vocals from metal songs and its really good. Much better than the other paid vocal remover programs out there. He used to post full album instrumentals on youtube but his channel got taken down. Before his channel was wiped, he made a discord server that he urged his subscribers to join where he continues to share instrumentals and take requests. If you email me, I can send you the full album instrumentals from TBOY and an invite to the discord server. Screamtheoryvocalcoaching@gmail.com
@Scream-Theory once I'm home I will, I really wanna get better at screaming and I've wanted to try and cover Plaguebearer to start off
@@darthdomthedumb Yea Plaguebearer is definitely a good song to start. That was the first song that I started practicing to get better at Dicky's vocal style. The intro goblin sounding highs are all false cord highs with a really tight and flat upper throat positioning.
can you do epiglottal or inhale distortion?
I dont really use inhale screams. Also are you talking about the aryepiglottic fold technique? I have heard some people talk about this like David Benites but it is actually not the aryepiglottic folds that produce the distortion. its primarily just the arytenoid cartilage rumbling around. I do have videos on this, like in my video about Ben Duerr's vocal style. Also all of my lows in my Shadow of Intent covers are arytenoid cartilage distortion.
@Scream-Theory like the cookie monster sound or the stuff jazz singers use. I think loui Armstrong uses it but maybe he just does fc idk. In general it defo sounds and feels super different to fc stuff. Ur prolly right it's the aryepiglotis or whatever its called lol idk the anatomy. I've heard Chris liepe so u should never do the cookie monster thing but is he just wrong because apparently u can condition the tissues there just like the fc.
would u say that jacob bannon from converge is fry or false chord screaminf?
Hands down the best, most informative, no BS channel for these kinds of vocals.
