We have a traditional tea since more than 100 years, Pandan tea. The tea originated in central Luzon, not sure if popular in Samal. You can buy Pandan leaves and simply boil in water to make the tea. This is also popular as a cold drink with (Brown) sugar, Large Tapioca Balls (Sago), and some slices of sweet Gelatin (Gulaman). In the last 60 yrs, people started adding Banana flavoring to give its contemporary taste. Sometimes you see this in old school "Sago and Gulaman drinks" in public markets. Pandan is also used in our sweets like Buko Pandan cake or a flavoring in Kakanins. Mama Nina probably noticed this flavor in your Kakanins video. Its great to see your Mama cheering up and smiling.
