Shohei Ohtani Talks About Winning Game 1
His best 2 pitches?
I like Devin Williams due to his stuff / repertoire being different / complementary to the other pen arms, but not as a full-time Closer. I prefer them to continue the match up scenario they used in the postseason.
#1 Need Question Ace with Post Season bonefides That IMO limits it to Burnes, Snell, and possibly Buehler. With their SP depth, an inning eater would be nice, but not as important, especially with a 6-man rotation. Ohtani Yamamoto Glasnow Kershaw * Gonsolin May Look at their possible AAA rotation / MLB backend SP options ... Bobby Miller Landon Knack Justin Wrobleski Nick Frasso Ben Casparius Jackson Ferris That doesn't even acknowledge the possibility of Sasaki. * Will re-sign in ST
Even still, that doesn't even include guys like Duran, Choi, etc... if they're still in the organization, the IL guys coming back late in 2025 or early 2026 in Stone, Sheehan, Ryan, or Hurt, or lower level guys who can harness their stuff / break out in 2024 like Burns, Martin, Heubeck, Karros, etc... The system is loaded.
It’s impossible to know what Corbin Burns would want in terms of contract and to know if he wants to play for the Dodgers, let alone if he wants to sign a team friendly deal. It’s safe to say that Burns has been waiting for free agency for a very long time and wants to get paid. I still think the Dodgers want to trade all these excess prospects for a starter
Teo, Walker, Treinen, Roki, Adames, and Burns or Snell, would be an A+ off season.
I'd offer Burnes a 4 yr/$150 - 160 million.
It would cover his age 30-33 seasons.
IFA Signings 2024 January 15 - December 15 2025 January 15 - December 15 The 30-day window from December 15 - January 15 each year is a dormant period. No IFA signings are allowed.
100% Austin, I agree...
Casey, I’m not sure if you have covered this at some point, but who do you like to take the 1st base coach job? Is Brett Butler an option since he could cover outfield and bunting coaching duties as well as base running?
"If he walks it off, Dodger Stadium is going to break." Given the reactions in other arenas and sports bars, I'd say _Los Angeles_ broke when Freddie crushed that grand slam.
Dodgers don't really have position players that come up. Unfortunately, we lose them to rule 5. Opportunities!!!!! What's Dodgers' future at 3rd? Shortstop? I do feel Walker will return along with Kershaw. Go Dodgers!
SS Alex Freeland Emil Morales Joendry Vargas Kellon Lindsey Noah Miller 3B Kody Hoese Chase Harlan Vargas Freeland Morales
@@davidsarell6080I agree, but opportunities which I hope Dodgers will do.
Great debate guys !! Loved seeing you both disagree !!! More of this 😂!
Fun Show, Austin and I love going back and forth, it's great fun. This type of conversation I've had 10,000 times talking about decisions about baseball team decisions, and they never get old. I love it!
Casey, thanks for another fun show! What a great time to be a Dodger fan. That fact that they appear to plan on another aggressive offseason is very exciting, no question about if but who they sign!
As a 58 year fan I sign Snell. Sign Heanet as spot starter lomg reliever. Beder as spit cf Teoscar and ss Kim. Eovaldi as starter as well. Dodgers will find other relievers after signing Blake
I can't believe what i just saw
He's going to be a big star
Tons of talent!
Elijah is an awesome young man both on and off the field. Works his tail off like you wouldn't believe. Ok, so I am he's dad and may be a little bias, but it's true :)
hahaha, I have proof of which you speak from folks other than you. Thanks for coming over to Dodgers Daily Jim, hope you enjoyed the interview.
It was an incredibe interview! Well done sir. Thank you!
Jack Dryer is going to be good in mlb. Thanks Casey and Austin.
"Got any black magics laying around?" Lol great interview, great insight. Thanks for keeping it fresh during the dog days of the off-season.
Thanks Woke, it was an honor to get to speak with Billy.
Dodgers Daily is the best dodgers show out there. A lot of rule 5 lists and channels didn’t even cover Jack Dreyer or think any relievers had a shot to get picked. Casey you’ve been the president of the Maytag fan club before I knew who he was. Keep up the good work guys. I always enjoy your takes on all things Dodgers
You guys were spot on with Jack Dryer!!! You know your stuff 👍🏼
I saw the thumbnail and thought it said "Hyun-iL Choi, Dodgers RIP" and was worried for a sec.
Love the interviews with the guys behind the scenes, always a treat, thanks Casey!
Super fun to get to speak with these people. They're all so impressive, it takes the guess work out of trying to figure out why the Dodgers are so good every year.
Wow. Terrific interview. Congrats on this one. I'm going to have to watch it at least twice to pull out all of the many nuggets. Very insightful interview and nice personal touch. He's obviously on track to be a GM and PBO himself at some point just given the way that he talks about his job evolution so hopefully the Dodgers can retain him for some time.
Outstanding interview thank you Casey. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Winning on the margins the Dodgers way.
Thank you Steve, it was an honor to get to speak with Billy, he's a stud!
Casey appreciate you another awesome interview best of luck to MR Decker seems like a great young man
it's no coincidence that the Dodgers have such an all star team in the front office. They have so many people who are qualified to be GMs or whatever Friedman is- with their great ownership it's hard to imagine how they could not compete for a championship every year.
Totallly agree, Billy is well on his way to being a GM.
Great interview.
Thank you Ray
What an interview! Thanks guys
You rock Boogies, really appreciate your tuning in. Hope you keep coming back
Choi's one of a kind. Super great person and talent to have in this organization!
Had the opportunity to listen back to this interview today during work. Super excited about his power ability and desire to steal bases this upcoming season. I can already picture a lot of bombs headed towards Buttles Street behind the left field wall in Dow Diamond this year! Also, the games in Fort Wayne and South Bend are gonna be super cool to play professionally in his home state (Dayton will be fairly close as well). Let's win a championship this season!
Elijah seems like a super cool dude. Also didn't realize he grew up in Spokane and spent time at Wazzu! I used to live in Spokane for a few years when I was young, so that was really cool to hear!
ill check him out in Rancho next yr...
Austin, I enjoyed seeing your analytical method on Fangraphs. Learned something new. One question about the rule 5 procedures, if a player is selected and then is returned back to the original club because that club does not wish to continue rostering the player on the active 26, does the original team need to add him to the 40 or does he return to the team as if he were never selected? Do you recall what happened with Gus Varland when he was returned?
I appreciate it as always, Jay! It is my understanding that, if a team decides to remove a player from their active 26 man roster, they must be offered to the team they were originally on for $50,000. If that player is returned to the club, they resume the spot they would have been if they were not drafted in the Rule 5 Draft. So, if a player on the Dodgers is taken in the Rule 5 draft but is returned to the organization, they would not occupy a 40 man roster spot. If I am wrong on this, I will come back and make a correction. However, I am 95% certain this is the case.
@@AustinBru99 Interesting, all of that makes sense. One other very technical nuance that I wonder about, that is practically a trivia question is, what is the status on players option years as a R5 selection who gets returned. My guess is that one of their option years is used since it seems fair to the player but I could also argue that in that case the player is being returned and then assigned but was never optioned. A return maybe it's own designation because the team that loses the player presumably has to accept the player back, and the team doing the sending is not releasing the player in a traditional sense (and if they are releasing him then they are doing so in such a way where only a single team has the right to claim him).
Hi Casey ! Another great interview. One day i would like to see an All-Asian All-Star team vs American All-Stars. # LiketheDrillersCap.
Awesome show, thanks for the FanGraphs tip, it’s fun to cruise that site. Dodgers Dawgs making the offseason fun!
Love talking some Dodgers baseball and helping equip baseball fans with tools to understand the game better. Appreciate you tuning in and your support!
You're awesome brother
Really appreciate it!
Is korean even good at baseball ??? Most of them are just like below average mlb players .......
idk.. the guy is good but the amount of pitching depth the current dodgers have rn, this guy will never make it to the big league in the dodgers uniform..
He might as a bulk guy for a game or two if starting pitchers get down like this season. Otherwise, tbh getting traded might be the better situation for him.
Fabulous interview with a very special young man.
Casey another excellent interview . Impressive English by the young man. Best of luck moving forward to him
You rock Steve, really appreciate the great support
What I would do starting from that 37 guys list: 1. Add 3 of the rule 5 kids who have more trade value (but I would ask them for teams they rather not go to). 2. DFA: Logue. 3. Definitely trade: Brasier, Frasso, Gonsolin, Grove, Cartaya, CT3, Lux, Outman. 4. Trade if needed: Knack, Wrobleski, Miller. 5. Send to minors (in ST): Casparius, Henriquez, Feduccia and Pages 6. Resign Kersh (when the 60-IL comes operational) From the first 3 they open 12 spots and I would add (at least try really hard to) 10 guys: Resign: Teo, Kiké, Treinen and Walker. Sign: Sasaki, HS Kim and T. Scott. Fried or Snell (only if they can't get Crochet). Trade targets: G. Crochet (LHP), K. Tucker (RF/LF) and J. Smith (3B/SS/LF). With Kersh I'm at 39 BUT: there's still the 5 in the 60-IL (Bazooka, Ryan, Stone, Sheehan and Hurt) + still have 3 that if not traded they have options (Knack, Wrobleski and Miller) + still have 4 to the minors (Ben, Henriquez, Hunter and Pages) = 27. I guess either Honeywell is again the odd man out or, IF they get Josh Smith (whom may very well not get traded) send him to the Comets.
Seoul Bistro in Tulsa. Been there and I understand Choi’s sentiment 😂
Thanks Austin. Great show.
Appreciate you tuning in as always, Craig!
Damn....his English is good! Much respect to him.
HSK sucks, hit bat is dead. Adames makes up for the Strikeouts with the HRs he hits.
The most frustrating part of being a dodger fan is watching the team go with guys like Barnes and CT3 over Hunter Feduccia and Austin Gauthier. For me, I hope they protect Choi, Gauthier, and Jack Dreyer. Now that we’ll be running a 6 man rotation, I could make the argument that no team should have 3 catchers more than LA. Why develop all this talent just to keep them in Oklahoma? Kiermaier, Gallo, Biggio over guys like Outman, Avans and Busch getting at bats is just silly to me. Another awesome episode fellas
Great stuff as always Sean
My offseason wishlist is similar to yours Casey. Devin Williams, HS Kim, Roki Sasaki, Corbin Burnes, would be perfect for Xmas. I be wouldn’t be surprised to see LA bow out of the Kim bidding if it goes to 5 years and $100 million like Fangraphs predicted, but he makes too much sense if he chooses a pillow contract like MLBTR predicted. I’d give him 5 years and $100 million because I value his defense and batting eye that much at a premium position. I could also see LA going for a 1 year bounce back pitcher like Buehler or Verlander but I honestly think Walker would be better off in a place like Atlanta or Detroit where he’ll get more opportunities. Should be an exciting hot stove for dodger fans
Dodgers need more Koreans. Huge market in LA, plus Dodgers are South Korea’s team
Hi I think Bobby Miller was playing thru injury most of 2024
Is there a pitcher that comes to mind as a comp for Choi? Maybe Ross Stripling?
Pedro Martinez in terms of Bread and Butter Both were 2 Seam, then tunneled the Changeup off of that. Both of those 2 pitches created similar profiles, but at different speeds, and slightly more tumble with the change, which created tons of weak contact, and enough swing and miss to be effective.
@@dodgersdaily Thanks. Really interesting. I hope he gets an opportunity at the MLB with the Dodgers or with another organization if he's selected in the R5.
