Building a city in Blender using Google Maps
Hi Amelia cool video, i sincerely don't get the hate you received in the comment, images are a pain in the a to find, amd most sites require a monthly subscription for shaitty pictures of building, so more pawoer to ai. What intrigue me is the possibility of generating maps fro trim sheets or materials, that would be a game changer. Something like complex ornaments is really tricky and exhausting to model from a topology perspective. Making kit bashing ans trim using AI would be beautiful. That said, good work, have fun (i just subscribed to your channel).
verry nice video, thanks I'll test it for my next project
So... How do we animate them? I can't find any tutorial.
Don't even have Blender installed, but you are inspiring me to start on this 3D modelling as a hobby. Love how short and precise your tut is. Thanks x
Very nice little tutorial, thanks Amelia!
Thanks for sharing!
Another work flow for blender scene elment as gray box to stablediffusion img2img creation then image as plane like this. Or you can go even further and get depth map from stablediffusion then have 3d in blender then stick your image on it. Then its 3d with out the cut and extrude jobs.
No you are not adding details. You are adding image textures. No need or point in any ai, been done for ever with real images. Further your end building is a useless same front on all four sides. The pleasure is in making not faking.
could you do a second try this time without the evil big corp and use local ai installed ?
Do u think this can pass in steam?
love love love!! I've made a few slum apartments using this technique and it is so satisfying.
That’s awesome!
Upload it bruh, more examples, more inspirations 😊
Very tempted to use this on my room as the background in a discord call now.
That is by far the best possible use of this! 😂🤣
ian hubert style is always fun!
Love it!
So efficient. Thank you for sharing!
This is such a useful workflow! It blows my mind how simple this is and the result looks fatnastic. Great way to make different assets to populate your scenes with. Thank you so much for sharing this with us
Glad you like it!
Cheater.
Very useful, thank you!
When I try to extrude my plain as you did, my image doesn't stay in place at the front, it extrude backwards sticking to the back face, any idea why it's going wrong for mine? Really want to follow along exactly as this is an excellent video!
This has happened to me before- make sure the alpha node is not connected and if that doesn’t work try copying the nodes into a new blank material. Hope that helps!
@@Scarlett_vfx Thank you very much!
SUUUUUPPPPPEEEEERRRRRR 😍😍😍😍 thanks a lot
Can humans ever just not take the easy way? I swear all you AI fanatics want is the laziness that comes with this. So yeah, if you take a pay cut and less credit, then fine. But im tired of already seeing my workload cut in half because of AI. But again, you don't care because it's new and cool.
thats great, how you maintain same lighting texture on each buildings
Good question! You can add “overcast daylight” to get a diffused shadow and I’ve found if you use the same chat for all the buildings it will maintain a similar style. You can also add a reference image for consistency.
Thank you .
🙌
great topic, thanks 👍
Ty!🙏
3d modelers are gonna start coming out as half-baked if they start relying on AI and not putting in any real work can't wait to see the industry become so incompetent that they actually just let the AI take over 😂
Lovely tutorial and technique. Thanks a lot!
A W E S O M E!!!!!!!
@:58 how do you do that??????
I’m using edge selection to move the edges, make sure you have “correct face attributes” selected in edit mode or else it will squish the image
how do you use edge selection to crop the image
Import image as plane. It is an add-on you can enable in preferences.
cant see which keys u are pressing kinda hard as a beginner
This is clickbait. It has nothing to do with AI whatsoever. This is about taking a 2d image, performing loop cuts, and then extruding the cuts for a 3d image. AI was 'used' to generate the image, but you can grab an image from anywhere. This technique is really one of the oldest.
click bait title ! shame on you ! no AI is used here, lol ! using a texture is as old as 3d itself... tssss.
Cool video, have you tried Substance sampler for making materials out of images? I assume you could convert the image to a 3D mesh since Sampler gives you a height map.
I haven’t yet but now I’m gonna check it out!
GLAD WE FOUND YOU! really underrated, hope your channel grows fast!
🔥👍
Have you considered making the rough model first, then using a depth matte + control net to create the building front in SDXL? Might give you more control over the final design. Have had some success in the past with SD 1.5 + Normal map + Depth map + Edge detection on line render. Let’s you pretty much control the final shape and just make the texture to project back on.
Wow that’s an awesome idea- I tried making a depth map with dalle and failed spectacularly
@@Scarlett_vfx I think blender should have a way to export the depth map of a render. If you are looking to create one from an image, search “midas depth map replicate demo”, might be fun to try that with the facade then build out from there . I just tried a couple prompts in Dalle for depth maps, and it really loves giving me perspective views, no matter what strange voodoo prompt engineering I try. Pretty, but not useful. I think in the past I’ve got on midjourney to /sorta/ work with making them, but honestly, best way is a model made for it.
@@CompleteGodel depth anything, much more clear.
How you cropping the white out of the image without it stretching? I have to use loop cuts. Nevermind, forgot I had to put checkmark in the Tool/Options/Transform/Correct Face Attributes checkbox.
Good point- probably should have highlighted that…
WAIT. THATS IT? it's that easy?
💙
The method still hasn’t matured.. gone further. Building a neighborhood is still impossible.
@Amelia I❤U, Just heading to learn blender couple of days, I had to gave up, then your video😅 I'll learn with this way tutorial for what I need ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Amazing! ❤️
i add: this way to build 3d models its very relaxing :) a loop here and a loop there and you have a beautiful result
Relaxing to make too! ❤️
Beautiful well done ^^
Have been using a ton of midjourney textures for surfaces and making textured brushes but hadn't considered this way of modeling from the image. Thanks for the concise and zero-fluff tutorial. ✅
That’s an awesome use of ai!
cool...!
Just saw this on Instagram, I love it. Genius idea, and so very cool! Well done! 👏
oh hey, Charla! 😅🖐
Dont listen to some of these hater comments, you did good. Thanks for the video!
Much appreciated ❤️
this is awesome!
WOW Cool))) Grazie))
Glad you enjoyed 🤘
Great method! Defintely going to be using this. Liked. Thanks!
Awesome 👏 love to hear it!
You can utilize google street view as well... Also try texture ripper tool to extract texture out of any image.
I did a tutorial a few years ago using google street view, and I love the texture ripper idea I’ll have to look into it!
