how to disable the o2 shield on a champion generator #generator #hack #genuis #smallengine #helpful

Okay before you comment read! The reason I disabled the O2 Shield function on my generator is because I need this generator to be on the back of my boat. And when I say the back of my boat it's external of the hull. All large boats are built with inboard generators, but mine was missing when I bought the boat Factory generator can cost up to $10,000 while this one costed me a fraction. When you...

This is amazing. How do I know what axle I have? Shop wants to charge $700 to do this job and I’m feeling dangerous.
@@laurentbeauregard4666 the best way is to go to the tag on the back of the differential and clean it off you might have to pull it which is held on with one Bolt. Then go to Google and look up your numbers and go from there
My TCV failed in the middle of the night driving home. Had no idea what the issue was since I didn’t get this notice. Took it to my mechanic. He fixed it. Found out after that the part was under warranty. Filed a claim. They said it’s void because I took it to a third party. How was I supposed to know the failed part in question was a defective TCV. Horrible car. Horrible company. Submit your story to the class action lawsuit lawyers and keep an eye out for settlements.
@tiplow1 oh man that stinks! Yeah I personally will not be buying a Subaru again. I think I'll stick to my POS Ford at least they're honest and upfront in my experience
I’ve spent weeks on this bullshit. I can NOT get the axle seal to seat back on the axle. It sits in the hub perfectly fine but will not slide on the far back part of the axle. I’ve kicked the shit out of the hub, hit it in with a hammer and nothing.
@jtsbasscovers4171 Roger that. It's the same seal as the old one right? The reason I mention this is because there are various seals out there that are actually incorrect but do Crossover with this axle for some reason. It should look like a big onion ring, red on one side. Worst comes to worst, pull the axle tag identification number number off the tag and take it to a known good local auto store and have them verify it. In my area I don't trust O'Reilly AutoZone or advance. It's Nappa hopefully this helps you
@ Napa matched up the oem Part number to a B370047 seal.
@jtsbasscovers4171 copy that, make sure you use a generous amount of bearing Grease when installing it in the hub and when you're installing the Hub back on the spindle if you're doing this with no lube it's going to get hung up. But it should slide right back on there
@ if I add the high temp grease and try to get it to slide on while tightening the axle nut think that would work? Or should it slide all the way on without needing to do all that?
@@jtsbasscovers4171 something is honestly wrong, you should be able to slide your new installed axle Hub seal installed over the spindle no problem do you have a micrometer?
Where do you drain water
@@tnafencing hello thanks for watching, remember that water is more dense than diesel fuel so it will naturally collect in the bottom of the filter the OEM Style filter has the screw on the bottom of it, you just drained it out until it switches to diesel which shouldn't take long at all best of luck!
Thank you.
@@mplarkvideo glad to be a help!
Thank you for making this video. I typed up a few paragraphs of rants regarding the nanny state, but since every word we type is monitored, I did not post it. I don't want to jeopardize this video.
@@tkilg7169 yeah I'm catching a lot of negative feedback from this video. I'll probably just delete it and people can figure out how to disable it themselves
You have fitted the outer housing 90 degrees out, the small lug sticking out fits between 2 bits on the engine.
I appreciate you taking the time to explain this. I have the big brother to your set (the 8500W inverter model), but I bet the mechanism is identical even if not identical in placement. I have an exhaust extension at the moment, but I’ll at least have a viable option if the sensor proves too sensitive. It’s already cut off on me once when I was test running it OUTSIDE but in a spot where I guess the breeze blew the exhaust back to it. Thus the exhaust extension I purchased after, to hopefully keep the fumes further away. Frankly, I’d rather they mandate that a battery powered CO sensor be included with these sets rather than something onboard…but I suppose that if someone is dumb enough to run this inside, they’d be dumb enough to omit the detector. Thanks for the tip!
@mnemonicmoniker4101 excellent response!!! Yes I agree, I feel like the sensor is way to sensitive. On a boat, I deal with wind changes constantly. Constant wind changes do this design no justice which is probably why so many people have been putting exhaust pipes on these. I have my other video where I did it aftermarket adapter from Amazon that's very popular. Excellent topic! Let me know if you have any other questions best of luck!
And the second button on the right is the MUTE to shut up the audio on the dumb ones that play ads.
Legislation doesn't cure stupidity. People will still run generators in an unsafe manner with or without disabling anything. There's only so much government can and should do to protect ourselves from ourselves.
Yup, thanks for watching
I've used smoke and/or fire detectors since about 1975 and would never be without them...for long. In the 60s in the military, a Fire Watch was maintained by the troops all night, every night until automated alarms were installed. You didn't mention why you defeated that important safety feature.
@prestonrenify okay, the reason I disabled the safety feature is because it's catching the fumes off of the back of the boat OUTSIDE OF THE VESSEL depending how the wind blows literally and shuts off. Generators are always on larger vessels to power miscellaneous accessories including air conditioning hot water stove refrigerator and all appliances. This shutting off is a huge inconvenience. So, I disabled it. Again I really hope people don't disable theirs since I showed everyone how to do it and stick it inside their house.
The government has a lot of ideas to protect idiots, most of them bad. On the bright side, they have proven to be good with YOUR money. Only 36 trillion underwater.
Yup. Thanks for watching!
You are right to say that this is dangerous and I agree you should not be recommending this. You are not talking about an O2 shield; oxygen molecules are O2. It is a CO shield, or carbon monoxide shield. CO is a colorless odorless gas, that kills you by blocking your body from getting oxygen into your blood. For a house, the generator should be placed outdoors, and not near a door or window, and well ventilated If your boat has a generator supplied or recommended by the manufacturer, . it probably would be in a specific compartment, isolated from the living area. The boar manufacturer would have made sure it would not kill the occupant of the boat. Chris, be extremely careful what you do. Strongly consider adding a carbon monoxide detector to the living area of your boat. Good luck.
@nickeckhardt1168 thank you, and thanks for watching! Gives me a new idea, I'll do an updated video of where I placed it on my boat it's on the outside on the swim deck on the very back this is a large boat not your typical small boat. I have twin 454s that make a mountain of carbon monoxide which is typical for boats but this generator would always catch it especially at idle not making way. My main business that generates most my income is based around a local business I started that has to do with boats. So a lot of my job is catering to guests needs and comfortability the problem is with generators and boats is this generator shouldn't even be on any boat, but it's external of the hull. Factory generators on boats function much differently. Yeah I think I'll go ahead and do a video of what I did here cuz something tells me there's a lot of people out there are facing the same dilemma because the factory generator will cost me up to $10,000 to install. Yes careful to anyone who tampers with this!!!
So then you are saying that disabling the CO sensor so it is acting like the majority of the generators sold today and all generators purchased prior to that are dangerous and should be immediately replaced. People have been running generators safely for 100 years or more. Disabling this safety feature is only dangerous for stupid people. Most of these new fangled government mandated requirements make things more expensive, increase complexity so more things to fail and troubleshooting is more challenging, are typically fail-safe so increases failure rates and downtime of the generator, and like the government mandated gas can are more dangerous as you now spill gasoline on your hands and clothing when before and potentially can turn into a road flare when before all the gas went into the gas tank. We are turning our society into a lunatics asylum so that it is safe for the dumbest person in society-what a boring life that would be-and it precludes survival of the fittest when the least fit no longer fail.
@lawrencespellacy6037 Hopefully this video helps! I personally never plan to purchase another CO2 Shield generator again but that's just me. Have a nice day!
Great job I’m glad you explained it
for the brake adjustment, do you need to make some adjustments on the brake pedal? is there a screw for adjustment? thnak you
@@raymondng9112 it's been awhile since I had that car, but most setups like this if you back up and hit the brakes hard it should adjust itself. If it doesn't have that mechanism then you adjust the little star looking thing one way or the other. There's also an accessible hole on the back

@thedidway2300 best way to learn is trial and error. Hang in there!
My wife's 2021 Outback had this failure at 25K miles about 2 months ago. it is a know problem and they are fixing it free. we had all kinds of lights on the dash but the thing failed open and we were able to drive it. we knew about this since we had received a notice from Subaru. Just another bad design on these cars. We love out Subaru Outbacks we have owned three. My 2015 has been pretty solid but with some annoying quirks that should not exist. This is just the latest insult to what has been a sold vehicle.

Engine make and model?
@tomrinde4487 this one's the briggs and stratton 6.5 hp. Not sure on model # without going out to the shop.
Not exactly the same vehicle, but it is a Ford of roughly the same vintage - my 94 Eco is running at that temp and now I know it's because it's using a low temp tstat. Higher temps help with fuel economy, which is hardly an issue with these gas guzzling work vehicles, I don't think 10mpg average is normal for a 5.0 van. I know they're heavy bricks, but the EPA estimate was a little higher at 14 (average, at least, city is a whopping 12), that's a HUGE difference, and will make my fuel last a little longer. Now I know what to do, thanks for the video!
