Shower Curtains & Porn Revisited | Flightless Bird
Another great episode. I'm glad you're both safe and hope you continue to be safe. Much love to all affected by this horrible situation.
Redbox doesn't exist anymore the company went out of business last Sept or oct.. there is 1 blockbuster left on the planet in bend oregon there was a Netflix documentary made during covid called The last Blockbuster
RIP. Thanks for the doc recommendation!
While you're hanging out inside, you may look for an old Steven Spielberg movie called "Always." It a romance starring Richard Dreyfuss, Holly Hunter, and John Goodman, and it features firefighting pilots. Living in the south, I can confirm that we deal with a significant wildfire threat. Thinking of you all in CA.
Thanks for this - I've never seen it. When I think "fire movies" I always think Backdraft, but I am not sure that's the one for this month.
Calvin’s fear from trailers - happens at our house too! I hate when they pop up as a commercial when watching a show with my kids. Why are they showing ads for a horror movie when streaming something rated for kids!?
it's like Guernsey and Jersey as well 😂
I've never heard a gay australian talk before
My wife and went to Fiji for our honeymoon. We had a couple ask us if we were Canadian. We said we were American and asked why they thought we were Canadian. They said they thought we were American, but if we happened to be Canadian, they knew we'd be very offended they'd thought us to be American. So they led with Canada 😂
I'm south african and I get new zealand/aussie/british too lmao
The only thing i care to know about new Zealand is they filled Lord of the Rings there. And frankly that is the pinnacle of achievement for them. Never before and never again shall they ever be more relevant to anything then that.
"Sheep Shaggers"
If you don't want to be mistaken for an Australian, I would suggest trying to not have an almost identical accent for starters. Just a suggestion.
I partied with a bunch of kiwi veterans on Anzac Day in Sydney a few years ago. What a blast.
They know how to party.
It must be so frustrating to differentiate your accent by "squesheng" your vowels that hard and STILL be assumed to be Australian from your accent. Meanwhile, a few Adelaide-born people I used to play WoW with were constantly annoyed at how many people assumed they were Kiwis when they were on voice chat, but they squeshed their vowels pretty much the same way. People from outside of ANZ who have met South Australians are probably going to match the NZ accent up to it and accuse Kiwis of being Aussies.
It is a burden I have to bare. Bear? God, I don't know what word it is.
We met some other north americans in a hostel in germany and all of us were judging the wisconsinites. These guys were just yelling about getting hammed and kept taking their shirts off, we finally all saw the american tourist stereotype playing out in front of us. And we're texan!
The Great Pavlova Debate
IT IS NEW ZEALAND'S TREAT! DEBATE SETTLED!
@FlightlessBirdPodcast lol
stop he’s the cutest
David here. He is too cute and frankly I am worried he's gonna take my job.
@@FlightlessBirdPodcast This is a valid fear... Though it might be nice to hear from somebody who isn't in the back pocket of big-olive garden.
Well I think I'm going to side with Australia on this one and I'm going to say get a different accents huh maybe people know who you are. you can tell Americans and Canadians different they say eh after everything suck it New Zealand #Australiaforever
Unbelievable!
I'm a quiet American. I don't like being the center of attention. But I definitely get the stereotype.
Eternal blessings on you.
After traveling for a few years for business, and being from small town America, rich Americans are the worst (and the most visible from an international travel perspective), but I have never been so embarrassed as I was eating at a cafe in Paris with a Canadian. He was SO LOUD, and I realized it was because "good" American travellers don't want to be a "bad/loud/brash" American traveller, so they are very quiet and apologetic. Canadians get away with hell and it gets blamed on us because many folks can't differentiate the accents haha
New Zealand is never on maps.
We mentioned that in our Rhys Darby episode - he led the campaign to get it back on the maps!
I am suuuuuuper excited about the video. I am now subscribed and excited to go from here. Historically, I have only listened to certain topics that interested me but now I think I want to tune in more regularly.
😂😂 crack up.
My kid has seen Smile 2…. He’s 11, and totally not afraid of anything. He has seen every scary movie out there and is so unphased by any of it. He can watch one of the scariest movie and go right to bed and sleep without any problems. Blame my husband, he lets the kids watch all scary movies as soon as their 5 😒
Oh lord, WWHYYYY as someone who has irrational shark fear, did I decide to watch this ep on youtube not listen on spotify as usual?! I can't put my feet on the floor now. :D
The fires are a good topic for the show. Just extreme weather in general because my British friends always ask "what its like to be in a tornado or hurricane?" The funny thing being I've experienced both in Texas, but not all Americans have experienced this. They, my friends, think extreme weather or weather related phenomenon is very American.
Towards the end, it sounds like you encountered what's called a white van speaker scam. The person trying to sell them buys these things with fake brands and fake product pages that say they're worth $20k, but in reality it's only like $50 for everything.
OMG David, do not scan random QR codes! That's how scammers are stealing your phone's info
Oh God, I hadn't even thought of that. Thanks!!!
Prayers to you all in California!! Hope you are all staying safe!
Also can we get a quick lesson on how to tell the Kiwi and aussie accent apart? So we can distinguish it too. What are some words that are markedly different??
A general rule is that Australians tend to pronounce many of their e's a's and i's as "ee" sounds, ("pick" becomes "peek") while Kiwis tend to change their vowels into a more low-key "u" sound. ("pick" becomes "puck")
@ thank you!
As an Aussie, the word "six" will distinguish a kiwi to me straight away.
and Aussies are quite nasal
Australians say budgie smugglers, New Zealanders say togs. That's how I remember....
On the topic of wild fires, you should look into wild fires in Canada, specifically British Columbia. Every summer we have absolutely horrific fires, entire towns are burnt down like Lytton and Jasper (Alberta). A lot of towns are remote and relatively disenfranchised and struggle to rebuild after such a disaster. A lot of people become displaced, especially Indigenous peoples who are so connected to their land and community. And it happens EVERY YEAR it’s absolutely crazy. Also Canada has the water bomber planes to help fight our wild fires, they were sent to LA to help this week, shoutout to those pilots because that is one of the craziest things
It's amazing what we hear about and what we don't isn't it? Never imagined Canada having such big fires.
This man definitely found his calling. It's really sweet he wants to help others thru the psychological recovery. I hope Calvin never learns to pronounce 'subscribe' lol he sounds so cute
So true about everything David is saying about NZ and Australia 😂
David, can you put it out there that the local animal shelters and rescues are overwhelmed with displaced pets. If anyone is able to foster a pet or two that would be so helpful. Here in Utah several of our rescues/shelters are taking in hundreds of California pets to help. These are creatures completely at the mercy of humans.💔
Thanks for this tip - I have so many friends fostering pets at the moment, too.
David’s love for Calvin is so pure ❤
OMG CALVIN🥰🥰🥰 My boys are 19 and 16 now and I SO wish I could go back and hear their tiny voices again.🩵💙
One day we will have time travel. One day.
Wishing you safety and hopefully you and Rob are safe from the fires.
Thanks, Cameron.
From Melbourne, Australia. Wishing all of you in LA remain as safe as possible. and hoping the winds slow down soon. Having gone through some huge and very scary fires over here, please remember if you feel sad and lonely during this time there are people all over the world who are thinking of you. it is horrible but it all does pass eventually.
David here. Really appreciate your kind words. It means a lot. We'll talk all this through on the coming episode...
Why am I not surprised as an Aussie that this is an ep 😂😂 Can't wait for the other Aussie eps.
psyched for my morning drive to work
Pleased to be keeping you company.
Yesssss loved it!
Damn, almost got me, didn't realize it was AI at first.
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
Circus Circus actually does have rides! A whole theme park lol 🎢
A scrapbooking episode!!! HELL YA!!! I'm one of those ladies that scrapbook! I've been scrapbooking for 24 years now! I was always one of the younger scrapbookers but now at 48 yrs old I'm not the youngest or the oldest 😀
There's a third group of people, huge fans of both of you guys!
Rob, you need to have your Chicago Card revoked! The Green Monster at Fenway!!?? How about the scoreboard at WRIGLEY FIELD!?!? Pft!
What did he say? He said blessed are the cheesemakers!
The tour guide reminds me of the Flight of the Conchords's Bus Driver song
Fenway Park opened the same day the Titanic sunk. Enough time has passed to consider that a "fun fact" i suppose
Best ironic callback cycle talk!! I miss my LiveJournal days! Happy New Year All!! I hope to hear a Good Year Blimp pod soon!
