The Omen Curse is a Lie | Elden Ring Lore
The omen will be a central topic in the shadow of the erdtree as we have seen from gameplay trailer a few months ago. In this video i want to share with you a short theory that clarifies the true nature of omenhood and where their curse comes from.
I hope you enjoy this one and i wish you all a good DLC release!

    The dlc explained everything perfectly for me. Horns are a sign of being close to the crucible which was the name of the erdtree/life-cycle-controlling organism of the time, in honour of which marika’s people was brutalised. Everything else including omen nightmares is a fabrication to justify vengeance.. basically, Marika is Israel.

    Pretty much spot on

    @Ifyoucanreadthisgooglebroke 3 дня назад

    This aged interestingly. So we learned that there was probably a lie here, but seemingly not this precise lie. Omens appear to be people whose hornsent genetics expressed themselves and in an unpleasant manner, likely tied to what Marika ultimately did to the hornsent. They are disfigured-appering reminders of a societal rape that the shamans suffered under the hornsent and of the crimes committed against the hornsent in turn. So it suddenly is obvious why they would be so ill received. They are living expressions of what their people suffered under the hornsent and the 'original sin' of Marika that underpins their society. And suddenly the Dung Eater makes a good bit more sense as he has elements of apparently seeking to reconcile this past and apply an equality of sorts...but in a nightmare fashion like we should expect from Elden Ring. I wasn't sure how he could think himself in the right before. He seemed like the unapologetic 'My solution to the flaws in this world is to make the world even worse' ending. Now I see it. He is deranged, but I see where he could think he is right.

    Your conclusion was double right! First we have Hornsent who show aspects of the crucible while remaining holy, but we also have the blood fiends who could according to this theory be those who have accepted defilement and they appear of very similar build to omens, but they lack horns and other characteristic crucible features.

    Dung Eater is only really awful to The Lands Between because he ensures no soul he defiles reaches the Erdtree. That is literally the only reason. Nobody cares he kills and defiles corpses. They only care about the Erdtree not receiving the soul. That is what they find so Loathsome. And one thing you all should understand is that Marika herself gave back the Guidance of Grace and she also gave it to this dude. She does not care what types of changes are brought about by a new Elden Lord.

    Interestingly, on the physical affecting the spirtual - FROM make another big point about this with the "blackened souls" of Messmer's soldiers after crusading and genociding the Hornsent for so long, in perpetuity. Obviously, with the DLC, we know more about Omens and horned humans, and the Hornsent Grandam literally claims to curse Marika... but I think a combination of what you present here and the spirits of the vengeful Hornsent haunting cursed Omens is likely. Especially as we know the Hornsent ALSO had "omen" children, those born with too many horns.

  • @hoosierfoodog

    uff... ok, this is very cool! The Dung Eater, have you noticed the puddle of blood he is sitting in..? My idea is that he is trying to replace something that was taken out of himself. But more RL related could be a behavior in wich he tries to escape the pain of victimhood, by becoming a perpetrator himself. This is just a theory of mine, that if you are the victim of to much sick shit, that you can not handle, that the only way for you becomes to be a perpetrator yourself, as the only way to not beeing a victim anymore. It seems to be quite on the nose and occuring often as well, why i don´t think that this is not somewhere written down by someone knowing what he/she is talking about, wich I´M NOT. Kegare, depending to where it exactly comes from, can only be redeemed by the one who has caused it, if it was caused by a person. (and not something natural - this is not very easy to understand in a non japaneese cultural context at all, and I MAY HAVE GOT THIS WRONG!) Iirc the Rapist somehow would have to releave the Kegare from his victim, BUT i may have understood this not correctly. If i have gotten this right, than this may be somewhat like the "marry your rapist laws" in this very case, but like i said THIS CAN BE VERY WELL BULLSHIT, i´m not sure how this is to interpret, and could be in a way i´m cultural conditioned not even able to undestand in the first place. Kegare would also occure from childbirth, if i know it right, and the removement of the omen horns could have to do with that, if you are correct about the soap and stuff. I think that it is very smart of you to come to this conclussion, but on the other hand i´m stupid as fuck, so... sry, it´s pretty sharp of you, of course :) nice work and thank you very much!

    The Golden Order cuts of horns from newborn? Whre is that stated exactly? I dont say otherwise, i just don´t know where exactly this is based on, and want to understand it correctly. In the description of the Omen Bairn that you have shown, the Golden Order is not mentioned. Also this whole omen-topic seems to be like maybee other conzepts in this game, wich are a phylosophical reference to how parents can miss a child up and even kill it, in order to form it like they think is the best. To me it strongly makes the impression that these omen babys are tretend this way by they´re parents, whom don´t want them to be a shame on the family, or so to speak, show anyone else that they do not accept the omen-like nature of her offspring. In the end it must be horrible af to give birth to such a horny thing, i would suspect. Maybee mother and father likewise seeking revenge for devastating the vagina they share, when cutting the horns off.

    Some objections to your view of the Elden Ring: 1. Marika could have simply foreseen some of the events as a god she has the power of foresight and prophecy. 2. Melina is not the daughter of Marika. She is the daughter of Gloam-Eyed Queen,or the Destined Death. The Destined Death was freed by Ranny and due to the fate of Godwyn the Golden spread to the roots of Erdtree. There she birthed Melina. Melina herself might think of Marika as her mother but she is deceived. 3. The tree does not give us access to Marika/Radagon. It is because we're helped by Melina. If Marika was behind it, the tree would have let us meet her. Melina wants to destroy the Golden Order. There is an influence of Tree inside her so she can't do it, but when she says "I am finally free to make my own choices" it simply means that she becomes her transformation intio Destined Death. 4. The Two-Fingers are most likely under the influence of Destined Death, not Marika. Remember Marika is imprisoned inside the Tree. 5. The words of Marika are the warning, not her will. She warns her children that their fate would be dark if they try to accomplish something great and yet miserably fail to do it. Here she warns them not to take the fragments of the Elden Ring. 6. Also there are other cosmic Entities who are enemies of the Greater Will. 7, And the final blow to your theory is that the Tarnished was meant to restore the Elden Ring. And all the "legitimate" and not secret endings show us restoring the Elden Ring, but in many different ways (some sinister). But in all "mainline" endings we're shown sitting upon the Throne. Which endings therefore are illegitimate? The Ranni ending and the Frenzied Flame Ending. Those are the endings which are contrary to the Greater Will. I feel like your speculations are very much "tainted" by modern culture often not understanding religious myths. Myths are often consistent and seeming inconsistencies show the greater picture. What you did was the nice try but you inverted the process. You took the picture already given and shattered it to pieces to then collect the pieces and build a different myth. Marika was the person deeply hurt by terrible prophecies. And she did unthinkable things to prevent the prophecy. 1. She took the rune of Death from the Elden Ring. Knowing that the Rune of Death (Destined Death) would play a certain role on the future decay she imprisoned the Rune inside the most trusted person - Maliketh. She fooled him, making him believe the Rune was someting one can control. She knew he would become half-mad, raving maniac with constant desire to kill. 2. She most likely had intercourse with Giant, who was poissessed by the Fell God. Moghwyn and Morgotth were not born of Godfrey. She did that to make a pact with the Fell God so it would protect the flame. In return, the Fell God wanted offspring - Omens who would carry his curse. 3. She made Godrey, her husband. the first Tarnished on purpose so that he could return at the right moment and claim the throne. When we meet Godfrey he congratulates us but tells us that our journey was unnecessary as he returned at last. 4. She could not trust Radagon completely so she forced Radagon to become a part of her. This resulted in the birth of two more cursed children Malenia and Miquella. This curse of Rot and curse of Youth most likely were the result of such unnatural union. I would even argue that the God of Rot (as all other Gods except the Greater Will and the Frenzied Flame were the result of "bug in the system"). 5. Marika shattered the Elden Ring, because she believed that only this way she could stay inside the Tree and alleviate the damage the black knives did to her poor son. She foresaw the spreading of Death and imprisoned herself to protect the Tree. Also she most likely entrusted Morgott with the task of protecting the entrance to the Tree. She never liked Morgott but he was the offspring of boith the Greater Will and Fell God, so the tree would be protected if the Fell God were to rebel again, Fate here played another part. Whatever Marika did served her enemy - the Destined Death. Death would want the world to be free from immortal beings. Therefore Death supported the plan of Ranni the Witch, plan that was originally born out of hate towards Marika who stole Radagon from Rennala But in-game Ranni is already a servant of Destined Death and her plan to leave the land and take order to the stars is the plan of Death. People in the Land Between would then never be reborn, nor ressurect nor have any afterlife - only eternal Death. Death would rule the world. I think the undead would probably die too. Marika made only one fatal mistake - took the Rune of Death from the Elden Ring. Without the influence of Destined Death, her plan would have worked and Ranni + the Black Knives would not achieve anything but revenge.

    We can also take inspiration from Theology to understand why the Greater Will would have Astel destory the Nox, and to make sense of the Lore. I believe that story is similar to the flood. In the scriptures the flood was a way to put an end to extreme forms of decadence and evil while letting the lineage of Noah prosper as a reward for their piety. Liiewise, I belive the destruction of the eternal city not only drove the Nox underground, but I think it split their people. In light of the DLC, I belive some Numen became the Nox, while others built stone boats and landed on the Cerulean Coast. The pious Numen became the Shaman/Shrine maiden, they listened to the fingers, became martyrs in the shadow lands, but they where rewarded for their loyalty when a prophet and high-priestess came out from amongst them, Marika.

    So to compare the ER timeline with our timeline 1.Prehistoric era ~6000 BC - 3000 Bc - Divine Towers and Ruin-Strewn Precipice stratum. 2. Far Ancient era: ~3000 BC - 500 BC - Uhl/Uld civilization 3. Ancient era ~500 BC - 100 AD: Numen stratum, an early version of Farum Azula and earlier (no longer seen) versions of Nokron / Nokstella 4. Late Antiquity - 100 AD - 400 AD: Sellia, Ordina, modern Farum Azula, Underground Nokron & Nokstella 5. Early Medieval Era - 400 AD - 800 AD: Early Leyndell, The Roundtable, Early Stormveil, Early Castle Morne, etc. Manus Cellis. 6. High Medieval Era: Mid Leyndell, Stormveil, Raya Lucaria, possibly the Golden Road. 7. Farum is crumbled, chunks fall to the ground, above the Golden Road. 8. A third of lower Leyndell is banished underground, it's the Nameless Eternal city now. The ER reveal trailer confirms this, the main gate was being assaulted, today it leads to a hole.

  • @sidewaysfcs0718
    @sidewaysfcs0718 16 дней назад

    I agree that the Nox themselves and their blue/black architecture is a post-banishment/burial development, but Sellia and Ordina look more like a branching-off from an earlier common civilization. Farum Azula also looks like another branch that shares architecture as well with Nokron and Nokstella, but branched off into Sun worship, as the Sun Realm Shield seems to indicate. All of the Numen-type civilizations seem to have had catastrophes hit them, Farum, Nokron and Nokstella all show signs of meteor strikes. Sellia and Ordina seem to be the survivors of this era, and they evolved along a different path, they are much more like the lower Leyndell quarter, where the Church is.

    The DLC confirmes the hornsent are the source of the omen curse. The grandma in the storeroom admits it if she is attacked, and recalls the curse by name. The hornsent defiled the erdtree making it create their divine image in place of Marika's, as they were doing when they genocided the shamans. That is why its called the Omen curse. Each side sees it as an omen for better or for worse.

      I do wonder, the dialogue goes like this: "The curse of the omen shall strike thee down... In the form of the sacred beast's ire." She is saying the curse will manifest as the wrath of the divine beast, the omen are the ones who cast the curse, the hornsent themselves. It is interesting that they actually call themselves omen, but it nicely confirms that omen and hornsent are basically the same. Tho hornsent aren't all horned it was just a dominant and desired trait in their society.
