High speed velomobile driving spring 2024 (speedometer overlay)
Просмотров 3,1 тыс.5 месяцев назад
The spring of 2024 has just begun. Time to drive a long course at speed! Well for the most of it that is. I'll try to get fitter during the year :) The highest speeds were achieved at the downhill at 1:45:59. 72 kph. I expect an even higher speed later this year at the same point, simply because hotter temperatures and less / no headwind will make the bicycle faster.

      @@gear7715 hills yes, just a little bit harder then a regular upright bicycle. Montains, barely. But for mountains there is a schlumpf mountain drive gear that you can install. It is a planetary gearbox thing that allows you to change your gearing with a 1.6 ratio, allowing you to climb mountains more easily.

    Mooie informatieve video’s 🙏 Vraagje: als je de quatrevelo zou gebruiken om ook door bergachtig gebied te reizen, zou je dan deze uitvoering kiezen, of ga dan toch voor ondersteuning? Gr en bvd Teun

    • @julesvelomobile
      @julesvelomobile 2 дня назад

      Dankjewel Teun. En bedankt voor het kijken 🙏. Ik zou zelf alleen voor elektrische ondersteuning kiezen als ik iets aan mijn motoriek zou hebben. Bijvoorbeeld slechte knieën. Het is zeker een prima keuze om te er voor te kiezen als je in de heuvels of bergen woont of er door heen reist. Ik zou eerder kiezen voor een zogenoemde schlumpf mountain drive. Dat is een gesloten planetaire tandwiel systeem dat in het midden van je voorste tandblad gemonteerd word, en waar je trapas doorheen gaat. Je kunt dan met je hielen in het midden van de trapas een pin indrukken om een extra vertraging in te schakelen. Als het goed is heeft die iets van een verhouding van 1.6. Dat betekent dat je voor elke 1.6 keer de trappers helemaal rond draaien, je voorste tandblad maar 1 keer rond draait. Dit werkt bij elke reguliere versnelling die je met je derailleur in zou stellen. Dus je drukt hem in. En ineens kom je wat makkelijker de berg op. Het is een puur mechanisch en betrouwbaar ding. Het is immers zo, dat het best wat gewicht toevoegt aan je fiets als je voor elektrische ondersteuning kiest en eigenlijk vaak niets oplevert aangezien het makkelijk is om sneller te fietsen dan 25 km/u. Sneller mag niet qua ondersteuning. Ik rij zelf als ik op gang ben altijd wel ergens tussen de 30 en 45 km/h. Dan zou ik die elektrische ondersteuning eigenlijk dus het meerendeel van de tijd alleen maar meeslepen. In de bergen en heuvels is die ondersteuning wel handig natuurlijk. Maar daarbuiten al snel niet meer. En dan heb je nog dat ondersteuning maar ergens tussen de 60 en 100 km per accu werkt voordat je moet opladen. Misschien zijn er tegenwoordig accu’s waar je verder op komt. Maar de hp velotechnic gekko van m’n vrouw die heeft ongeveer die range. Ik rij geregeld in fietstochten mee of wat verdere afstanden tussen de 60 en 110 km, en daar zou de accu me dus ook al in de steek laten. En dan heb je nog de levensduur van het elektrische systeem. Hoe lang gaat een accu nou mee? 4 tot 6 jaar? Persoonlijk vind ik dat te kort voor datgene wat het kost. En de kwaliteit van die systemen is ook niet om naar huis te schrijven. M’n vrouw heeft een van beijck systeem. Lijkt fancy. Maar de controller is van de binnenkant een zooi van ongeorganiseerde draadjes, en na 5 keer de accu uittrekken, brak de Connecter al af. Dat heb ik al vaker gezien bij verschillende merken. Wellicht zijn het stiekem allemaal Chinese prulletjes. Misschien zit ik er naast, maar elektrische fietsen heb ik nog niet echt duurzaam zien meegaan. Dus als ik moet kiezen, kies ik eerst voor de mountain drive. Daarna zou ik pas kiezen voor elektrische ondersteuning.

So top speed at about 70 kph?

    • @julesvelomobile
      @julesvelomobile 22 дня назад

      On the flats with relatively good asphalt it's around 50 kph for me with a quatrevelo. A bülk, or a snoek wil be faster because the quatrevelo is more built for touring, and the others for racing. On a gentle downhill I drove 72 for a brief moment: ruclips.net/video/c3z5gikvP_s/видео.html On a proper, longer downhill, I know that a speed of 80 to around 100 kph could be achieved. I've seen others do that. But I would not try that with mine I guess because I do have the 2 75 mm regular drum brakes only, and it would take a long distance to get to a safe stop. And drum brakes kan fail if they get too hot :). If you are in top tip shape, you would be able to go a bit faster on the flats I guess.. When I commute I do try to keep a pace of 36 kph to prevent sweating like a donkey and get all smelly all day long :D

When I close it’s visor and when I close the cover I can clearly feel the difference in less air resistance than when I drive with visor and foam cover open. And of course I got the alien hood for rainy days ☺️. I don’t have the default shark fin hood. Bought mine without it. 1 mirror makes sense. I can remove one. On the front I do have contact speeds from continental. On the back the good old trykers from schwalbe. The tubes are are also matching schwalbe ones. Vittoria latex? I’ve got to look those up. But....good to know is that I always carry this stuff extra in the back of the velomobile. 1 spare tire, 1 inner tube. 2 blankets. A bag of wrenches, tie wraps, shockpump, wheel lock and bicycle pump. I guess thats around 3 - 5 kilograms extra. • @julesvelomobile
      @julesvelomobile Месяц назад

      Let's see. I would say it can be seen as overestimated when you compare it to....what exactly? Could you elaborate on that? I could see how it's overestimated when you compare "high speed" against the speed of a car. When you are driving in a car, it's easy to think that I am not so fast when comparing the speed of my velomobile against your car. When you compare its speed agains the speed of a plane, you could see me as incredibly slow. Compare my speed against the speed of a pedestrian, you could say I am very fast. I can assume this because I accidentally sometimes scare people with my speed :). When you compare my speed agains regular bicycles you could state that I am fast. Even compared to electric bicycles that go as fast as 25 kph. So....I would say...it depends on how to would compare my speed. right? You can also take my age into account. Believe it or not, I'm not 18 years old anymore :). Im not old either. Maybe we can take my health into account too. You know, of course I can go a bit faster on a perfectly straight and flat road with a good type of asphalt. But that comes with a cost, at least for me. I currently think I cannot achieve a much higher speed for a 71 kilometer long trip. When you put your mind into comparative state it's easy to draw conclusions. I think the beauty of al those conclusions is that they al can be "true" at once. And that's absolutely fine! What matters most to me is having fun while driving this amazing human powered contraption while sharing that with everyone who would like to see it. Does that kind of makes sense?

      @julesvelomobile Месяц назад

      Correct I have the most simple configuration. To keep is as reliable as possible. I actually don’t know the gradients. But I can tell you this. Till the resting point in the hills the total meters I drove upwards was 230 meters. Downhill it was 192 meters. Most of those meters were driven starting at 1 hour and 1 minute into the video according my gps. After the resting stop it was 122 up and 162 down until the end of the recording. Made some. After that I went home ☺️. If I would drive in those hills daily i probably would get a mountain drive. Not so much because of the strength you should have. But just to make te drivetrain last longer I guess and especially to prevent excessive heat. My body caused heating the inside of the velomobile up to 36 degrees c at the most intense climbs. Those temperatures lasted for 15 minutes. The rest of the hill part it was around 30 degrees inside the velomobile. When you hydrate enough and be aware of the heat you will be fine. At least for around 8 to 10 hours. That’s the longest I’ve driven in such temps. After that period I needed a day of rest to recover. Thank you for watching again. Let me know if you want to know more 🙏

    Barney the Legborghini, is also a newer Quatrevelo, but I still call him a Quattrovelo. Great review. My QV has a Rohloff hub, with Tongsheng 350W e-motor. Absolutely a must for the mountains where I live. I have the kit to put a front hatch in, so as to reach the cargo spaces easily, but I have not built up the courage to cut the carbon yet! I also made, with the help of a friend, a carbon fiber 'tray' to fit two batteries for the e-motor, and that goes behind seat on top of the rear drivetrain. I'll make a video about the construction of that in due course.

    • @julesvelomobile
      @julesvelomobile 3 месяца назад

      Sie können das Fahrrad vollständig schließen. So bleiben Sie bei Bedarf völlig trocken. Was Sie beim vollständigen Schließen beachten müssen, ist Folgendes. Da es geschlossen ist, erwärmt es sich im Inneren schnell. Das ist oft schön. Wenn Sie jedoch zu schnell fahren, kann es manchmal zu Kondenswasserbildung an der Innenseite Ihres Fahrrads kommen. Vom Schwitzen und dem Temperaturunterschied draußen. Und dann bleibt man nicht ganz trocken. Und dann ist da noch die Herausforderung mit dem Visier. Wenn es regnet, erscheinen Regentropfen. Das Fahrrad verfügt serienmäßig nicht über einen Scheibenwischer. Für mich bedeutet es also oft, dass ich mit leicht geöffnetem Visier fahre. Schön für die frische Luft, aber weniger schön für den Regen im Gesicht. Aber das sind nur kleine Unannehmlichkeiten :). Im Übrigen ist es sehr angenehm, durch den Regen zu radeln. Egal wie stark es regnet :) Schauen Sie sich auch hier Minute 32:48 an: ruclips.net/video/C14A1y8B2ag/видео.htmlsi=NjEULarArOLYEYeD&t=1968 Dort zeige ich dir genau, wie du das Fahrrad komplett verschließt :)
