Cinematic Something is an on-going short video series that shows how Craig prepares, seeks out and captures the unique places he stumbles across in China into shareable cinematic content that elevates the location and the people in it.
By using skills learned while making documentaries for the past decade Craig shows what it means to be a solo video shooter in places that hold immense beauty but are rarely captured. Setting up each episode as a quest to explore and film a specific location using a cinematic concept with limited equipment Craig documents his process while giving perspective on life as a foreigner in China.

The Boring Town I Return to Over and Over
Creativity requires pushing yourself into new experiences. But what happens when you return to a place you've been to a million times before? After living in China, I visit my hometown of Damascus, Oregon and nearby Boring, Oregon. Walking the streets, taking pictures and eating American Chinese food, I reflect on what's changed. What I find is the surprising effect the place I grew up has had on who I've become. It's such a familiar place that keeps me grounded, allowing me to see who I was and what I've become.

我也觉得大部分中国的地方都是安全的，我小时候也是8,9点还在外面和我的朋友们玩，玩累了，就去买烤串吃（不过我觉得那时候的烤串比现在的😋）一般9点半就回家了，上高中后特别是暑假，我基本上都和同学半夜出去吃小龙虾烤串，就很安全~直到我来美国之后我才知道原来这边大晚上最好不要出门比较好

Very interesting content, love every photo shown in the video. I have lived in Shenzhen for more than 7 years, and I always thought Shenzhen was a very boring city, where people come here just to work and make money (for those who don't know, it is one of the southern cities with the highest average salary). I never knew that Shenzhen was so lively late at night. Now I think it may be my problem, I blame my damn 10-10 office job.

It was great place. Not many foreigners go. I loved Poyang Hu. Such a pretty lake. I'll have to go back.
中国不是这几年才变安全的。02年时我还是个小小的初中生，在首府读私立学校，周末拿了放行条就可以出来玩，每个周末都在网吧、台球室通宵了，同学还喜欢去能看足球赛的酒吧，可以跟老板押球，饿了就在路边吃夜宵。没碰到过小偷以外的超级恶人。 学校在郊区，学校大门口的治安比市内差多了，在学校附近才要小心翼翼的。 现在那里超级繁华，治安也很好了，毕竟二十年过去了。这两年学校旁边的仙葫大道还因为水果价格便宜到惊掉人下巴，在抖音上小火过一阵😂就是这块地方，我读书时，这里都是荒芜山包，没有成熟的住宅小区和商业集群，还很危险！~有过飞车党抢劫到我老师身上，耳朵扯坏了，超级可怜，她才刚毕业的小姑娘，我们只能捐款给她😢

Yes! I went to Noodle Man after shooting the video. They had a spicy noodle bowl that was delicious. While Damascus hasn't changed much Happy Valley has EXPLODED since I grew up. Pretty amazing to see. I also love the Happy Valley Library. Do you live in the area?
What are some of your other favorite Chinese spots? I went to Wan Lung as well.
@@cinematicsomething Noodle Man has this dish called Hot Dry Noodle, which is pretty rare in Chinese restaurants in the US, quite good, but be careful if you have nut allergy, because it has sesame paste and sometimes peanut butter in it.
