Cinematic Something
США
Добавлен 31 авг 2022
Cinematic Something is an on-going short video series that shows how Craig prepares, seeks out and captures the unique places he stumbles across in China into shareable cinematic content that elevates the location and the people in it.
By using skills learned while making documentaries for the past decade Craig shows what it means to be a solo video shooter in places that hold immense beauty but are rarely captured. Setting up each episode as a quest to explore and film a specific location using a cinematic concept with limited equipment Craig documents his process while giving perspective on life as a foreigner in China.

They Didn't Want Me to Leave, Lubu 禄步 #littletown #basketball
It's true, the people of this little town didn't want me to leave. Have you ever passed one of those towns that doesn't seem to have much going on? That's what I thought Lubu was until I made this stop and experienced it for myself. Lubu (禄步) is a town in Guangdong, China next to the Xijiang River. I came to check out their farmers market but soon found much more. After filming the waterfront and inside the restaurant where I ate lunch I experienced the magic of a small town basketball game where it seemed the whole town came out to cheer on the home team. As someone from a small town myself I couldn't help but recognize the curious vibe of the locals.

WHAT IS IT? Veggies I've Never Eaten #China #farmersmarket

🍈 I'm a lover of veggies and often find myself at the #farmersmarket. But biking through a village in China I saw a vegetable I hadn't seen before. Using my poor Chinese I summoned the guts to ask the people picking it a simple question, "What is this?" This led me on a journey to a mega Shenzhen farmers market to buy, film (in macro) and eventually eat these unique Chinese vegetables. SUPPORT ...

Just buy you a coffee, thank you for the outstanding video.
I saw it! Many thanks.
Hey loved your videos. I am visiting Shenzhen in October with a delegation from Cambridge University UK. Are you interested in trying to shot some videos together?
That’s great you are coming to Shenzhen. Welcome! Tell me more about your visit in an email: contact@cinematicsomething.com
Thank you, so glad to see a little town with many different things.
That ending man. You got some good storytelling skills😮
Glad you liked it!
I live in shenzhen too. Your channel has to boom. Documentary qualify video almost 👍
Awesome, thank you!
cool video , liked and subbed 👍
Thanks Kenny!
Thanks for watching my video! This one was really surprising to me. From the moment I parked I had no idea what would happen. I'm always looking for interesting things to film in China. If you know of something unique please send me a message: contact@cinematicsomething.com
Indians love Chinese villages I will think about how to bring more Indian audience for your good channel
What you are making is so special. You are one of a kind❤
Nice of you to say! I'm trying
This was a beautiful episode
Glad you thinks so! It was a fun town to visit.
@@cinematicsomething I also started to visit less known places in China, recently I visited chenzhou, a scenery town about 2 hours away from Shenzhen and a city called wenzhou. It was really impressed 😁
Amigo just to keep going, your videos have good qualities and some fundamental Inspirations inside which is kind of lack in nowadays streamers of RUclips, you have done a good job
Your concern at 3:54 seems like a pretty major concern to have with a $900 tripod... are you saying that critically, comparing it to higher end heads like the Sachtlers? Or is it jittery even compared to a 502 or other less expensive heads? Was hoping this might be a budget alternative to a Sachtler, but that comment has me thinking it's really just a high end alternative to a manfrotto.
I mean, I was pushing the tripod with the weight of my setup and using a 100-400mm lens on a super35 crop sensor so keep that in mind. But Sachtler has been making tripods for decades and costs a lot more. This tripod is kind of a fresh take. I love the legs and the design but there's always room for improvement. It's def not a replacement for a $3-10k USD tripod but a competitive option in the sub $1k USD price range.
stir fry bitter melon (kugua)/ Pugua with egg
I notice your mandarin is getting better!
I keep trying!
我的家乡😂
蒲瓜更好吃,是你自己不会做,中国菜可没这么容易做
Bitter gourd has light sweet after taste. Children dislike it, elderlies like it coz the tongue endure bitter more
I thought it was pretty yummy
There's si gua 絲瓜 Silky gourd. Long and green, with spiky edges like star fruit. Peel off the hard edges, skin is rough but edible, flesh is sweet and like a silky smooth mesh.
find u from bilibili
Welcome!
Go to Kaiping
Yes! Kaiping is on the list. Can't wait to see those cool looking tower buildings.
Wow, that was so Dragonball-esq on the second to last part.
Thanks! Are you talking about that hyperlapse shot on the wall?
Shantou has some really interesting architecture and porcelain rooftop decorations (bring long lenses)
I've been meaning to go there. I'll check it out!
Wow the photos of uncles and aunties swimming are superb!
They are! Thanks
😂😂😂
That's a nice photowalk ! I love the old part of town's pictures. 😊
江门-开平碉楼, 虎门-威远岛
Have some silkworm chrysalis from ShunDe, eat with some rice wine.
I'll have to try that!
You remind me of myself, I'm just like that, I hear everything and notice everything without concentrating, I see things in my surroundings where others don't. It's a gift to be able to do that, having said that, I must admit I trained myself to do that in my teen years. Did you train yourself?
I think I subd after I watched first video of this vlogger long time ago and then this vlog disappeared. Today I am glad it appeared again 😀
Wow, beautiful and innovative! I am afraid the style does not cater to the majority's taste.
really good video, but there is no 👍 to click on.
You have exquisite taste to like bitter gourd, not many could put up with the bitterness. Try it with pork & black beans, you'll have more than one bowl of rice!
Sounds yummy. I'll have to try it.
Did anyone try to report you as a spy there?
Why should they?
Expat tourist spies.
Your videos are amazing, and the reflect my own experience in China. I saw the uncles playing 毽子 in the park and wanted to join, but was too shy because I can't speak enough Chinese. Next time, I'm doing it!
Go for it!
Champion 👍
love from shanghai let your channel incubate alittle bit more you are going to be super
不可思议,这运气太好了,大海捞针的感觉
蒲瓜和北方的西葫是一个东西吗?
我认为他们是不同的。瓜的种类真多!
For the long hairy Chinese yam, make sure u wear gloves when peeling the skin, the hairy stuff makes our skin very itchy . For northern Chinese cooking, it is sliced and slightly stir fried with vinegar for a couple of minutes only. it tastes crunchy and tender . One of my favourite veg dishes. Chinese yam is very good for digestion system and spleen according to TCM.
That is some good information! The yam broke apart so I didn't film it like I did the other items. I'll have to taste it sometime soon.
I would suggest you find some local small restaurants and order some food, try to chat with the local people. Your Chinese might be improved fast and it might made your video more interesting. No big cities, we just want to see how small town and village people 's life in China.
I do like small towns. I should have some more small town videos coming soon.
@@cinematicsomething Look forward to that! Can't wait for the adventure!
Found you on Xiaohongshu. Your video is so interesting! Keep on! Some of these vege I have never had before.
Thanks for joining on RUclips!
兄弟,可以的。这个视频质量相当高。支持。
Taiwan is an independent country. China supplies the world with Fentanyl and they harvest organs from prisoners. Beautiful country and people but evil CPP government. Don't travel there or buy Chinese goods!
I admire how brave you are as a foreigner to just waltz in to a Chinese restaurant in the middle of nowhere with no one speaking English and order a meal ❤
My curiosity got the best of me. Totally worth the trip out there!
It is a kind of ingredient in local medicine or herbal tea, particular found in Guangdong province. Go to consult a Chinese traditional doctor for details.
The tree is call Wood Cotton, because the fruit it produces is covered by cotton like fiber to help the spreading by wind. This "cotton" was once collected to be used as stuffing material and used to make things like pillows or quilt. The seeds can be used to extract oil. The tree has a lot of other names. One is called Red Cotton or "紅棉". There is a song call "紅棉" sung by Hong Kong singer Roman Tam. In the song the tree is also called "Hero tree" or 英雄樹 as you have mentioned in your video. There are also many poems (some dating back some 1200 years) on the tree/flower. The flower is the "City Flower" for Guangzhou City and Kaohsiung City, also the County flower of Taichung County of Taiwan.
It really is an incredible organism. Thanks for sharing!
Great skills, feel like I watched a documentary about Nanchang
"Not the guy stretching" laughed so hard! Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it! It was hard not to focus on that man. Pretty incredible routine. There’s at least one other guy in the back doing something similar.
Pu Gua kinda looks like the central American Choco, might be a relative to that vegetable
Hmm? I’ll have to look that up. Good observation.
China sungguh damai dan indah👍❤️
I can be!
